PHILADELPHIA — The murder of a couple who were having sex inside a parked SUV in a Philadelphia park is being described as a 'crime of passion' by police.
Victims Shakoor Arline, 25 and Lisa Smith, 32, were shot to death some time between midnight and 5 a.m. Friday, when the couple were engaged in sexual intercouse in the backseat of an SUV parked in Fairmount Park, 6ABC Action News reported. The couple previously had worked together, but were in relationships with other people.
An unidentified shooter opened the rear door and fired nine shots at the couple. Both suffered gunshot wounds to their heads. Their bodies were found by a crew of maintenance workers on Friday afternoon.
"Someone knew they were in the park at that time and obviously had an issue with it," Captain James Clark of Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit told reporters. "I can tell you from the crime scene that it was very much a crime of passion."
Police said the deceased saw each other off and on, while maintaining relationships with other people. They have been questioning the man and the woman who were also dating the victims, but have not yet identified them as person of interest in this case.
