00:00Don't mess around with games. There's a lack of grit.
00:02That dude should return his muscles.
00:05Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:09The crossover is brought to you by Abundant Life Weight Loss.
00:12They know the secret to losing up to one pound of fat every day.
00:16Go to AbundantLifeWeightLoss.com.
00:18Let's welcome in Mark Willard and Dan Dibley.
00:21It is the crossover on a surprising crossover.
00:27Dude, the block is hot.
00:29As we would say in the hood, the block is hot.
00:32What does that mean?
00:33That means you two are fighting and we're about to fight and I want to fight you.
00:38We ain't been fighting?
00:40No, you just were like 19 seconds ago before the break.
00:44The block is hot.
00:45Willard, that's our normal talk.
00:47He's still Dibley from the block.
00:49That's what it means.
00:50I'm just Danny from the block.
00:52Exactly.
00:53And we got our guy, Marlon Wayans, joining us tomorrow at 12 o'clock in studio.
00:57And that was my favorite part of the show earlier.
01:00And Stein, he's like, hey, I think I've heard of him.
01:03And then you said, in living color.
01:05And he's like, oh yeah, Jim Carrey.
01:07Jim Carrey.
01:08Jim Carrey.
01:08Oh, he's special.
01:09Jim Carrey.
01:09Right.
01:10He was Fireman Jim, right?
01:11He was.
01:12Let me show you something.
01:13There was a bunch of things he was.
01:15He was a lot.
01:16But the whole show, that's a solid three.
01:19That show was about the Wayans.
01:21Not only Marlon, but Kenan.
01:24There you go.
01:25Shout out Kim.
01:25Yeah.
01:26And Damon.
01:27It was more about the Wayans and J-Lo, who was before Jenny on the block.
01:32Yeah.
01:32And then Jim Carrey.
01:33Yeah.
01:33He was awesome too.
01:34But yeah.
01:35All right.
01:35Marlon Wayans in studio.
01:3712.30.
01:39It's exciting.
01:40It is.
01:41Sure.
01:41I mean.
01:42Yeah.
01:42So was last night.
01:44Couldn't get Chappelle.
01:44I text both of you.
01:46Couldn't get Chappelle.
01:47Couldn't get Chappelle.
01:47This dude.
01:49This is the worst loss of the year.
01:50Can I say something?
01:52That was the worst loss of the year.
01:53Part what?
01:53Six?
01:54No.
01:55No.
01:55He's all right.
01:55That was the worst loss of the year.
01:56Because we're back in the box.
01:58Like Jack.
01:59That's a four.
02:00I think that, look.
02:02They're going to have the opportunity to get up out the box.
02:06Memphis is not going to go unbeaten.
02:07I just hate that we need them.
02:09Right.
02:10But everybody needs each other this week.
02:13Right.
02:13I mean, you already got Milwaukee going a 34-3 run the other night.
02:17That happened.
02:18In the fourth quarter.
02:19So, I'm sure Minnesota radio yesterday was like, this is the worst loss of the year.
02:24And now today, it's our turn to be its worst loss of the year.
02:28Maybe Memphis will be up by 11 with 13 seconds left to go.
02:32And Josh Giddey will sign in Minnesota and win that game.
02:35Average a triple-double last month.
02:37I mean, like, I don't know what's going to go down.
02:40I just know that Sunday was going to be a lazy Sunday drive.
02:46And now it's going to be stressful as hell.
02:48So, the playoffs have started.
02:49If Stoddy don't like that.
02:50No, they've already done.
02:51I mean, I think the Warriors would tell you they started three weeks ago.
02:54But the turnovers, man.
02:56The turnovers deserve to be.
02:57I'll tell you what, if you want to, for me, the flashing light of hope.
03:04Shout out, Kanye.
03:05The light of the end of the tunnel is this.
03:09That was your last back-to-back of the year.
03:14That's it.
03:15That won't happen again.
03:17And that's not an excuse.
03:19That doesn't mean the Warriors, like the Warriors had that game won twice, three times.
03:2399-96, 101-99, 103-99, and 105-104.
03:29They made their run, and then they were down by 12 at the end of three.
03:32That's over.
03:33The game's over.
03:34If you are the mature championship veterans you are, that game is over.
03:40But you didn't handle business.
03:42So, if Draymond wants to call it grit, whatever word you want to use, you blew it.
03:47You blew it.
03:48In the worst way.
03:49Yeah, but when you blow it, you know, now it's kind of like the start of the road trip.
03:56They had two crappy losses, and you're like, you guys blew it.
03:59And then they come back and won two games you didn't think they'd win.
04:01So, they got to go win on Sunday.
04:03And tomorrow.
04:04And tomorrow.
04:05Okay, just a young, just what you face.
04:07Assume nothing.
04:08Wow.
04:09Yeah.
04:09Well, even beyond that, it feels like a Beatles song to me, because help, I need somebody,
04:14help, not just anybody, but, and I heard that, and he's been nailing it, but you need help.
04:20So, you don't control your own destiny anymore, so you actually need help, because, as you
04:26know, Stiney, from your Catholic education, the Lord helps those who help themselves.
04:31And the Lord did not help the Warriors last night, because the Warriors did not help themselves.
04:37It's well put, Dibs.
04:38Yeah.
04:38But they'll get it.
04:39So, tonight's game between Memphis and Minnesota.
04:43No, these guys are, they're not all, no, Memphis, this is not a pray situation.
04:49Memphis, man, if Memphis can beat Minnesota and Denver on back-to-back nights, good on
04:54you.
04:54I, I'd love to see it.
04:55Yeah, I agree.
04:56I agree.
04:56That's not going to happen.
04:57They're not doing that.
04:58If Minnesota wins tonight, then the Warriors leaf frog the, the Grizzlies.
05:05And if, if the Grizzlies win tonight, it essentially takes eighth out of the Warriors.
05:12If Minnesota loses, then the Warriors pretty much won't finish eighth.
05:17Don't root too hard for Minnesota tonight, because if they beat Minnesota, then they've
05:22got to go to Denver tomorrow.
05:24And if they lose that, now you're, you're essentially in even better shape.
05:29Like, there's a very good possibility that both of these teams lose games.
05:34And, and as Stiney says, that takes eight out of it.
05:36That would be, that's the nightmare.
05:39Eight is the nightmare.
05:40I agree.
05:40The nightmare is Tuesday night in Minnesota.
05:43All right.
05:43I agree.
05:43That's the nightmare.
05:44How did we get here?
05:45Good Lord.
05:46Tuesday night here is a bad dream.
05:49Tuesday night in Minnesota is a nightmare.
05:50No, I don't want, no, nobody wants that.
05:52That's actually, yeah, that's, that's a great call.
05:55And that's one thing that I hadn't really been thinking about.
05:58I, I was just thinking if they get Minnesota, it'll probably be here on Tuesday.
06:03That'll be a tough game too.
06:05It'll be a tough game wherever it is.
06:06I asked Stiney, what turnover bothered you the most?
06:09Mine was the Curry inbound.
06:11You, man.
06:13All of them.
06:14Oh, I mean, like, I'll agree because it was the last one, but all of them, all of them.
06:20The whole, I haven't watched a Warrior game like that all year.
06:24Christy will tell you, I was over at her house.
06:25My body, like, shoulders are all scrunched up, leaning to the side.
06:31I'm like, this is not happening.
06:34Like, I don't watch games like that.
06:36Like, I just, like, it's like, they're right.
06:38You win some, you're going to lose some.
06:40Weird stuff happens.
06:40But last night, man, face contorting.
06:44Like, no, you guys aren't going to do this.
06:47And then they did.
06:48I feel like there were three shots last night in the fourth quarter where the Warriors were up four or five or six.
06:57And the Spurs made a big shot.
06:59Like, Mamu.
07:01That top of the key shot that I think cut it from four to one.
07:06Mamu, you know.
07:07Might have even been six to three or something.
07:09There were a couple shots that if the Spurs don't make it, the Warriors probably win the game.
07:16But they made about two or three big shots to turn two possession games right back into one possession games.
07:24And the Warriors only had three turnovers in the fourth quarter.
07:27So we can talk about, like, which turnover was the worst.
07:29Draymond had two.
07:30Steph had one.
07:31And for me, it was more about an overall fourth quarter just meltdown where you shot five of 21.
07:37And your only offense was Jimmy Butler getting to the foul line.
07:41You're welcome, Jimmy.
07:42Thank God for that.
07:42And thank God he's a listener because, you know, you and I called him out about being assertive.
07:46And next thing you know, he's assertive.
07:48So you and Stiney, oh, Jimmy, you're doing great.
07:51Well, Jimmy obviously was listening because Jimmy actually turned into the player he should have been.
07:55I love that you picked last night's game to say that because you said it before the game before that.
08:00And you look at offensively for the rest of the team in the fourth quarter.
08:03They were awful in the fourth quarter.
08:06What a total cherry-pick comment that was.
08:07You look at the fourth quarter, and you went five of 21 from the floor.
08:12And your only offense was Jimmy Butler getting to the foul line.
08:14That's what that was.
08:15And Stiney always says, I have 21 floor.
08:18You can't put it at the doorstep of the others or the youngsters.
08:21And we sung the praises of Pods, rightfully so.
08:24And Moody, he's been a godsend this year.
08:26But I can't ignore the last 13 games.
08:29Moody's shooting has evaporated, and I'm just hoping that gets rectified moving forward.
08:34And I got to do this because I said it.
08:37Pods, we gave you your flowers yesterday, but you're not the guy to do that celebration in the second quarter.
08:43We got to do away with it.
08:45Do it, Stiney.
08:45Why?
08:46You can't.
08:47You're not that guy yet, Willard.
08:50Wait, why?
08:50Because it woke up the Spurs to me.
08:52No, it didn't.
08:53Come on.
08:54Get back on defense.
08:56I'm pro celebration of any kind, always and forever.
08:59Stiney, you ain't going to show him, huh?
09:00You did it twice.
09:01Do it, Stiney.
09:03Let me see it.
09:03Let me see it.
09:04That's my man.
09:05Oh, that's a little high.
09:07That's a little high.
09:08You're covering your whole face.
09:09Come on, man.
09:10Will.
09:11You're a good-looking man, Stiney.
09:13Don't cover your face like that.
09:14I always think that he's doing the Mahmoud Abdul-Raouf National Anthem when he put his hands like that.
09:21Right.
09:21But Pods...
09:23It was an awkward celebration, but I'm in favor of celebration of any kind.
09:27Point of attack defense was non-existent by everybody.
09:30No, like...
09:31By Pods.
09:31Well, he was getting cooked.
09:33Yeah.
09:33Dude, cooked.
09:34And, I mean, he needs to come up with a new celebration that has to do with barbecue.
09:39Because when he's guarding the ball, he gets barbecued.
09:42So maybe he does something with a meat thermometer.
09:44Well, it was bad by everybody yesterday, but they were going by him.
09:48By him.
09:48The Warriors' losses all have the same characteristics.
09:51And that's why, like, I take comfort in that on a day like today.
09:55They all have the same characteristics.
09:56Missed a three ball.
09:57The old guys looked tired, and the young guys missed their shots.
10:00That's it.
10:01That's it.
10:01I think the worst turnover was the one where Draymond got the turnover, and it led to the
10:08three by Champagny.
10:12Curry tried to throw a left-handed over the shoulder.
10:15It got knocked down by Castle, started going to the sidelines, and I think Draymond felt
10:20like he could get it and stay in bounds.
10:23But I think he was falling out of bounds.
10:25Right, right, right.
10:25And then he threw it right to Castle, and they got the three up at the other end.
10:30Yep.
10:32I mean, he would have been better off just taking the out-of-bounds.
10:35Yeah, but, you know, that was a big one.
10:38And then compounded by the ball gets thrown in the corner, and Champagny gives him the
10:43pump fake, and Draymond, D-P-O-Y, how's your closeout, Dre?
10:47Oh, yeah, that wasn't a closeout.
10:49You flew by.
10:50You're going to block a three, up one, and so just a little pump, and now nobody home.
10:57Bang, three-pointer, you're down two, and then it got bad from there.
11:00And to have Harrison Barnes be the one to give you the dagger, he stuck it to you, the Black
11:06Falcon, that was even a little bit more hurtful.
11:09And then the other little sprinkle on top, Chris Paul acting like an assistant coach over
11:14there.
11:15Like Chris Paulovich.
11:16He enjoyed the hell out of that.
11:17Is he Chris Paulovich?
11:19Because he's over there in his sweatsuit in the fourth quarter, and he's barking signals,
11:23and he's calling plays.
11:24So HB and CP, Chris Paul.
11:28But this is what cut me.
11:29Even though, and I told Stiney this, you guys tell me if you agree.
11:33As bad as they played, the basketball gods gave them the turnover by Draymond, forcing
11:40it to Curry.
11:41Kelton Johnson goes down.
11:43Great defense by Dre.
11:44No foul.
11:45Misses the layup.
11:46That's two points.
11:48And then you get a foul from Castle over the back, so you don't have to earn your two.
11:53Just make your free throws, and you're up.
11:56And I said, that's what winners do.
11:58So you're up two, and you still found a way.
12:02Dre got, they fell asleep.
12:03Him or Butler fell asleep on the pass from Castle, and they were in zone.
12:08And Johnson was down there and got fouled.
12:10They didn't call it, but that's why I'm bothered.
12:13Third, you're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM, and HD1 San Francisco.
12:19Always live on the free Odyssey app.
12:21Now broadcasting from the Laughing Monk Studios.
12:24Laughing Monk, righteously brewed in San Francisco.
12:27Nobody's laughing today.
12:28No.
12:29And I'm looking at that play, Goo, and they're actually in, it looks like they're in man,
12:33and Draymond is not guarding his man.
12:36He's got his back to Johnson, who is behind him, and Steph is trying to contain Castle.
12:42And Draymond is only fixated on helping Steph Curry.
12:45Moses is in help, and you've got everybody else.
12:48Jimmy Butler's in help, and Pods is on his man because he's one pass away.
12:53He's not denying, but he's close enough.
12:55Draymond is just ball watching.
12:57DPOI.
12:57And they had a conversation, but they respect each other so much, Dre and Jimmy.
13:01Jimmy was like, dude, basically without saying it, that's on you.
13:05You know, did you see the story about Draymond in the Athletic with Marcus Thompson
13:11when he was detailing his defensive plays while the video was going on?
13:16It was last week.
13:16It was last week.
13:17No.
13:18It was really good.
13:19Marcus was, like, he had Draymond watch tape with him,
13:23and they picked out three really good plays from Draymond,
13:26and he explained what he was thinking the whole time.
13:28And there was a play that was so similar to the Keldon Johnson play,
13:32and he played it kind of the same way, but he said,
13:37I knew I could recover if the pass was thrown.
13:41And the pass was thrown on this clip that they were showing,
13:44and then he got back in time to block it or to alter the shot.
13:48And last night, he was just a little late, and Keldon Johnson's a big boy,
13:53and he just, I think he just, he almost made a play he always makes,
13:58you know what I mean?
13:59But he was just a hair late, and...
14:02Might have been tired.
14:02You know, maybe.
14:03Maybe.
14:04I don't know.
14:05I sort of feel like we're, maybe we're focusing on the wrong thing.
14:09Like, we're all talking about things that happen in the final three minutes
14:12of the basketball game.
14:13In any NBA game, if you end up in a tie game with three minutes to go,
14:17that thing could go either way.
14:19You got NBA players on the floor, they're going to knock down shots.
14:22They never, ever, ever, ever should have been in that spot,
14:25which is why I think it's kind of one of the reasons it's funny
14:28that you're peacocking about the way Jimmy Butler played the game out there
14:33without Steph Curry in line.
14:34That's where they lost the game.
14:35They got absolutely blown off the floor in the non-Curry minutes.
14:39And to me, that's not even about Jimmy Butler.
14:43That's the characteristic I'm talking about.
14:45Moody and Pods and Kaminga and obviously Poston, like Buddy,
14:51they all didn't hit their shots.
14:53They all didn't hit their shots.
14:55And normally, at least one of those is going to hit a few shots.
14:58And if they do, they win that game last night.
15:00But at the beginning of the fourth quarter, you're up by 12.
15:03Curry sits for three and a half minutes, and the next thing you know,
15:06you got like a two-point ball game.
15:08That's where you lost it, to me.
15:10That's where you lost the game.
15:12I also think there's something important about Steph's three-point shooting on this team.
15:19And he was five for 14 last night.
15:22Not great for him.
15:24But I do think he's got to go six for 12 or six for 11
15:29because that gives them the foundation of their three-point percentage, if you will.
15:36When he goes five for 14, it just, then you better have at least one other guy
15:43and probably more than that.
15:45And Buddy was close last night, but not, you know, he's been hotter.
15:53And Pajemski and Moody just kind of went missing with their three-point shot.
15:57And like Steph, unfortunately, didn't make enough.
16:01Not that I'm blaming Steph, but his shooting is, there's a lot of pressure on Curry to make threes.
16:08Because if he doesn't, there's no guarantee they can.
16:11First time they lost two or three Whit Butler dibs.
16:13Yeah.
16:14At home.
16:15And we can look at the role players, and none of whom played particularly great.
16:20Or you could look at the stars, and that's where my eye will always go first.
16:24And, you know, I'm mostly playing in tongue-in-cheek about Jimmy Butler,
16:28although he did get to the foul line a lot more than, I mean, 17 times.
16:32That's like 18 shots.
16:34So 16 of his 28 came from the foul line, and 17 of their 28 free throws were Jimmy Butler.
16:39So if Steph is not hitting threes, and nobody else really is hitting their three,
16:45then where will your offense come from?
16:47And if it's Jimmy Butler at the foul line, okay, good.
16:49Well, now you need one more thing to go your way, and, you know, Buddy with 12,
16:54and Kaminga with 12, and, you know, Draymond 13, okay, that's all there.
16:59That's all good enough to win the game.
17:01But then you get down to the actual crunch time, or clutch time, as we call it,
17:05and what happened?
17:07You had your big two, your two Hall of Famers, turn the ball over,
17:10and you had plays that were not made by them.
17:13And, yeah, you could look at Pods, and Kaminga, and Moses, who is,
17:18he's in a little bit of a slump.
17:19And it's fair to say that, and we'll ask Steve Kerr about that later today
17:23when we have him on the show, not only about Moses, but in general, last night.
17:27I do think that if you're going to go anywhere,
17:30it's going to have to be on the back of the big three more than it is the next three.
17:34I can't wait, because I just told Stahey, the last six times you've had Kerr on,
17:39and it's always a great interview, it's kind of been euphoria,
17:42because things have been going so good.
17:44And he always is the same, even keel.
17:46But that one has to bother him.
17:48And if you watched his manner, he just was like,
17:50I can't believe you guys are doing this.
17:52I'm sure.
17:53I'm sure that they had a sleepless night last night.
17:57This was not the plan.
18:00This was not the plan.
18:01They set themselves up for a situation.
18:03No doubt.
18:03That's why I thought they were so relaxed on Sunday after the loss.
18:07They were very relaxed in the postgame pressers,
18:09because they knew it's okay, here's how this week's going to play out.
18:13And losing Wednesday night was not on the docket.
18:1717 and a half point favorites.
18:20Yeah, that's a wow.
18:21Yeah, no, I agree with you, Dibs.
18:23That's a night where if Steph, Draymond, and Butler, to a lesser extent,
18:29he might not even be long in this one,
18:32if they don't turn the ball over, they'd probably win that game.
18:34And then we're saying, they won that game without their role players playing well.
18:38But they lose the game, and then you've got to look at the role players, too,
18:44as role players, and they didn't play well last night, and they have been.
18:49Like, Pods has been pretty good.
18:51He wasn't really that good last night.
18:53Moody's been pretty good, only he hasn't shot it great lately,
18:56but he's been solid, and they just didn't make enough shots.
19:02I look at the second quarter, where you enter the quarter and you're up nine,
19:06and it's time for Steph to rest.
19:09But even beyond the 20-3, it was a 9-0 run, or I'm sorry,
19:14it was a 13-3 run by the time Steph had to come back in.
19:18So Steph got a four-minute break, and then he comes in for Pods.
19:21But before that, you had San Antonio go on an absolute run
19:25with Mamu and Wesley and Barnes and everybody.
19:29They got back in the game on the backs of Moody and Pods and Draymond
19:34and Jimmy and Gee, and so that, to me, was the first point where it was like,
19:39okay, now the Warriors, okay, you're going to have to dig deep
19:41to still exert your will.
19:43You're 17.5 points better, according to Vegas,
19:46and then you built that lead up again.
19:48And then in the fourth quarter, again, when Steph was trying to grab a rest,
19:52came back in at 9-0-6.
19:54They came back again, again.
19:56So it's not so much the big three only their fault
19:59because the bench did a very poor job of stemming the tide,
20:04but then you got down to that clutch time,
20:06and your best players made big mistakes.
20:09And my fear is if it's about fatigue, which I fought Stani tooth and nail on,
20:14it's not that.
20:15Willard said it like this was not the plan,
20:17but if you're in the box, when are you going to get that rest?
20:21When are you going to recharge?
20:23Well, I mean, first of all, you're not in the box yet.
20:26I know you are today, but the season doesn't end today.
20:28That's number one.
20:29Number two, if you are in the box and you do win,
20:32does everybody understand what he means by in the box?
20:34Don't say, help me out.
20:35The play in.
20:36Yeah, I want to make sure the listeners understand.
20:37That's how I bought that.
20:38But if you end up in the box and you're at home on Tuesday
20:42and you win that game, you're still going to go get three or four days off.
20:46I'm not saying that's not a good place to be.
20:49But being in the box does not mean that you're playing all the way until Friday.
20:55If you end up in a game a week from tomorrow night,
20:58this whole thing went woefully wrong.
21:01I appreciate the honesty.
21:03Oh, you mean if they play in.
21:04Right.
21:05That means they play Tuesday and lose.
21:08Oh, my God.
21:09And then you're either hosting Dallas or Sacramento next week
21:12or next Friday night for your lives.
21:14Like that, they cannot.
21:17Not to me, that's preventative in and of itself.
21:20Even if you win that game and then get on the plane to Oklahoma,
21:24that lets them know.
21:25Like, you're out.
21:26All you have to do is go back two years.
21:29When they played a seven-game series against the Kings,
21:32Curry goes for 50 on a Friday night in Sacramento,
21:35and they had to start the next series against the Lakers
21:39who had three or four days off.
21:42Lakers came in here, won game one,
21:44and they had control of the series the whole time.
21:47So that's why I'm kind of with you.
21:51They don't want to go Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
21:54That's why it's game choice.
21:55If this thing ends up on Tuesday, like, that's not good.
22:00But if it does and you win and you get on a plane for Houston
22:04for a game that's four or five days later,
22:07not the end of the world.
22:09If you play next Friday, you're hosed, I think.
22:13I think you're totally hosed.
22:15By the way, just before you go,
22:17the turnover thing that everyone's focused on,
22:19did you guys all see, like, how many total turnovers
22:21they had in the game?
22:22Not many.
22:23Ten.
22:23Only had ten.
22:24Yeah.
22:24So I just, like...
22:26It's when they happened.
22:27Right.
22:28Right.
22:29But Pods, Moody, and Buddy, and J.K.,
22:35could you all just hit one more three each?
22:38You win that game by double digits.
22:41Yeah.
22:42Like, that's...
22:43I know...
22:44I'm not trying to...
22:44It's not about blame this player, that player.
22:47Those four combined...
22:49Well, actually, the non-big three went seven of 28 from three.
22:53Before we leave, can we all be honest, and I haven't asked Donnie this,
22:56did we all assume OT like I did?
22:59I assumed OT before the ball was inbounded.
23:02Yeah, I didn't assume it, but I thought that it was likely,
23:04and I also thought that in that moment, that if it gets to OT, they're going to win.
23:08But then when the Harrison Barnes shot went through,
23:11I thought, you know what?
23:12You didn't deserve to win.
23:14And that's...
23:14You didn't deserve it.
23:15You blew a lead.
23:17Yeah.
23:17I was assuming non-OT before the game even started.
23:20I was assuming an easy, breezy win the whole night.
23:23Man, dibs told the truth.
23:25Yep.
23:26All right.
23:26Steve Kerr, 5 o'clock.
23:28So, keep it locked to Willard and dibs on 95-7.
23:32The game.
