00:00If you use UPI, note the date of April 1, 2025, because from this date your UPI account can be closed.
00:12Even if you use popular services like Google Pay, Phone Pay and Paytm, or use another payment app, your UPI account can be suspended.
00:21The National Payments Corporation of India, or NPCI, has instructed to remove many numbers from banks and apps by March 31.
00:32What are the full details? Is your number also included in this? Can your digital payment app be closed? Let's know in the video.
00:39To make digital payments more impactful and secure, NPCI has taken a new decision.
00:45NPCI has given instructions to bank and UPI service providers to remove all numbers from April 1, 2025, which have either been closed or have been allotted to someone else.
00:55Now the thing to know is why these rules were needed.
00:59There are many people who have given their mobile number while opening a bank account, which has either been closed or has been allotted to someone else.
01:08There are many people who have given their mobile number while opening a bank account, which has either been closed or has been allotted to someone else.
01:15Even if the user is not using their UPI app, there may be a risk of digital fraud in his account in the future.
01:24So this step has been taken to prevent such digital frauds.
01:28Now we will explain this problem to you through an example.
01:32Suppose a person named Hari Om opened an account in a bank.
01:36The mobile number he gave has now been closed.
01:39He also started his Paytm from this number, which he does not use.
01:44Here, a person named Akash took the SIM of the same company.
01:48The company allotted the same number to Akash.
01:51Here, the messages of Hari Om's transactions started coming to Akash.
01:55Hari Om had also taken a loan.
01:56His recovery phone started coming to Akash.
01:59The phone of the bank also comes to him.
02:01Akash did not do anything to harm Hari Om.
02:04But if someone else had been in his place, there could have been financial fraud.
02:08To avoid such fraud, these rules have been made.
02:11What are the rules?
02:12On July 16, 2024, the NPCI decided in a meeting that bank and payment service providers will have to update the system on a regular basis.
02:22From April 1, the bank and payment service providers will have to give a monthly report to the NPCI,
02:27in which it will be necessary to tell the number of active UPI users every month.
02:32Information on transactions made through updated mobile numbers will also have to be given.
02:36Bank and UPI apps will update the list of mobile numbers every week so that there is no wrong transaction.
02:43In addition, permission from the consumer will also have to be taken.
02:46Banks and payment service providers will update the mobile number only when the consumer agrees.
02:52The consumer will be given permission through the app.
02:55And if no consumer agrees, the number will not be updated and there will be no banking transaction or UPI transaction on that number.
03:04Now let's also know how long a mobile number belongs to another person.
03:09So after the mobile number is closed, it depends on the telecom company to allot it to another customer again.
03:16Usually, any mobile number is in the cooling period for 90 days, i.e. 3 months.
03:22During this time, it is not issued to any other customer.
03:25However, in some cases, this period can be up to 6 months, i.e. 180 days.
03:29Especially when telecom operators have enough new numbers available.
03:33If a person has closed his number and wants to get it again,
03:38then he will have to contact the telecom operator during this cooling period.
03:42And if this does not happen, then that number will be allotted to someone else.
03:46Now what is the suggestion for consumers in this case?
03:49So you have to keep updating your mobile number.
03:52If you have changed your mobile number, then you have to update it in the bank and UPI apps.
03:56You have to keep the numbers associated with the bank or UPI active.
04:00If you see any suspicious activity of any transaction on your mobile number, then you should definitely file a complaint about it.
04:08And in this case, if your number has been inactive for 90 days, then you can activate it.
04:13You can activate the UPI ID by making a transaction of Rs. 1 or Rs. 2.
04:19You can recharge your number so that it does not happen with you that your number is removed and your UPI is closed.
