A high pressure system is currently sitting above the UK which is bringing calm and bright conditions. Most places in the UK will have a sunny afternoon, with the southeast of England being the exception where there will be some cloud near the coast. In the evening the cloud extends westwards into southern and also central England, bringing some isolated showers in the process. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 06/02/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Aidan McGivern.

00:00Hi there, if you're a fan of crisp but bright winters days, you'll love Thursday afternoon.
00:06High pressure has finally arrived and cloud free skies are prevalent up and down the country
00:10from Shetland down towards the far south west.
00:14But actually there is some patchy cloud and increasingly so for East Anglia and the south
00:18east with the easterly breeze starting to pick up and it will also be breezy towards
00:22the north and west of Scotland with some strong gusts for the Outer Hebrides and some patchy
00:27cloud here.
00:28But elsewhere, blue skies, plenty of sunshine and light winds so feeling very pleasant indeed
00:33with highs of 7 to 9 Celsius.
00:36Now the cloud I mentioned in the south east will become more extensive during Thursday
00:40evening and it will bring some showers into Kent, also parts of the far south coast.
00:46With that patchy cloud and with the easterly breeze picking up, well actually that helps
00:50stir the air up, it will trap some warmth and so it won't be quite as frosty overnight
00:53across the Midlands, the south and south east of England, East Wales.
00:57Scotland, Northern Ireland, North West England, North Wales seeing plenty of clear skies,
01:01light winds and so here temperatures will fall away, a frost in places and some fog
01:06patches first thing.
01:08But plenty of bright weather once again for the north and west of Scotland, certainly
01:11Northern Ireland, sunny spells, North West England and West Wales.
01:15Elsewhere increasingly cloudy and with that thicker cloud and stronger easterly breeze
01:20we're going to see some showers move into the south.
01:24Things will be sleety in places because it's going to be feeling cold, it will feel especially
01:28cold in the wind but temperatures a few degrees down on recent days, 4 to 6 Celsius.
01:35Now the sleety rain I mentioned in the south, well that could give a very slight covering
01:40of snow over the Downs, the Chilterns and then later on Friday night over the Welsh
01:44Mountains perhaps more widespread and deeper snow over the Welsh Mountains and perhaps
01:50the hills of the south west as well.
01:53So we're talking about hill snow, not low level snow, it would be rain and sleet at
01:57lower levels because although we've got an easterly it's nowhere near like the beast
02:01from the east.
02:02To find out the full reasons for that watch Alex Deakin's 10 Day Trend which you can find
02:06on the YouTube channel but in short the easterly has a southerly component, it's coming up
02:12from the south east and we've got some milder air mixed in with this area of low pressure
02:17moving up from the south as we start the weekend rather than properly cold air coming all
02:23the way from Siberia which is what happened with the beast from the east.
02:26So not all easterly winds are the same, this one through the weekend and into the start
02:30of next week is likely to bring some hill snow but at lower levels more likely cold
02:36rain, sleet and very minimal amounts of snow I should say and it's going to be increasingly
02:43grey as low pressure brings a series of weak fronts in from the south.
02:48So yeah, colder, greyer skies as we go into the weekend and the start of next week away
02:55from the far north west and some sleet and hill snow in places.
03:00You can find all the latest updates on our YouTube channel as always, bye bye.
