00:00Hi there, something we've not seen for a while, a high pressure system sitting over the UK
00:06bringing widespread sunny skies and frosty nights. That's what we'll see over the next
00:11couple of days at least. Plenty of sunshine developing then for the rest of Wednesday
00:15in many places but not everywhere. There will be one or two showers and some patchy cloud
00:19across England and Wales, more frequent showers coming into the north and west of Scotland
00:23falling as snow. Over the West Highlands, 300 metres or so that snow will fall and some
00:29hail mixed in as well. Feeling cold in the brisk breeze further north but with light
00:33winds and those sunny skies in the south. Pleasant enough highs of 8 or 9 Celsius. Temperatures
00:39will fall away quickly overnight as the sun goes down with light winds and widely clear
00:44skies by this stage as high pressure sets up over the UK. The showers in the north as
00:49well, they're going to fade away overnight so for the vast majority it's simply clear
00:53skies and light winds. Although a brisk breeze will continue into the north and west of Scotland
00:58that will keep temperatures up at 5 or 6 Celsius. Otherwise it's minus 1, minus 2 degrees
01:04in towns and cities and a few degrees below that in some of the most sheltered spots.
01:09So a widespread frost, some fog patches first thing particularly towards the south east
01:13and they'll tend to clear through the morning and then it's just a crisp bright winter's
01:18day. Some patchy cloud into the south east and that brisk breeze continuing in the north
01:23and west of Scotland but otherwise for the vast majority it's sunny skies, light winds
01:27feeling very pleasant indeed, 7 or 8 degrees. Later Thursday we'll see a bit more cloud
01:33arriving into the south and across central parts and that's a sign of another change
01:39going into Friday and the weekend. We're going to see the high pressure that's centred over
01:44the UK begin to move. It's going to move from sitting directly over the country into Scandinavia
01:51and at this time of year when we see high pressure move into Scandinavia we get colder
01:57easterly winds. But the easterly winds arriving through the weekend aren't drastically cold.
02:03They're going to bring a mix of patchy rain and sleet across central and southern parts
02:08of the UK. The brightest skies will remain towards the north west. It will feel cold
02:13in the wind of course but temperatures not much lower than 3 to 5 degrees by day through
02:18the weekend with a lot of cloud cover. Not quite as pleasant as it's expected to be over
02:23the next couple of days. Bye bye.
