00:00Hello there, good morning to you on this bitterly cold Wednesday morning.
00:05Temperatures plummeted overnight, the risk of ice this morning.
00:09A snow and ice warning extends from northern Scotland, western Scotland down towards Northern Ireland.
00:13This feature here, we've been keeping an eye on it.
00:16It's an area of cloud and rain, some stronger winds as it bumps into the cold air.
00:20There is a risk of some snow through today, particularly for southern counties.
00:25A mix of rain and snow along the coastline.
00:27The distribution is slightly, somewhat uncertain.
00:30But certainly there could be some wintriness about as we head through the day.
00:33Winds are light inland and in fact overnight we have seen some freezing fog patches
00:38along with that ice, the frost and also these wintry showers.
00:41A cold biting wind towards the north, northeast, the western side of Scotland
00:46delivering those showers towards Northern Ireland.
00:48You can see there are some freezing fog patches around.
00:51Some clearer skies across the central, about northern and eastern England.
00:54But towards the west as well as central parts of England and Wales, more in the way of clouds.
00:59And notice rain approaching the west country, so Cornwall, southern parts of Devon.
01:04And even through the first part of the morning on its northern edge,
01:07you can see there is a mix of rain and snow here, particularly over the moors.
01:11But even at lower levels, the air is that cold.
01:14And it's going to skirt the south coast, this feature.
01:17But as it moves northward just slightly, it will turn to snow.
01:21And the risk of snow through the day across southern counties.
01:24More clouds across the Midlands as well as southern parts of Wales.
01:28Further north, you can see these showers running in.
01:30Wintry showers, further accumulations across the northwest Highlands.
01:34And then further south, a mix of rain and snow in terms of showers across Northern Ireland,
01:40particularly the far north there.
01:41Many areas having a dry day away from the far south
01:44and then the periphery of Scotland down towards Northern Ireland.
01:47And there will be some sunshine around.
01:49But watch out for this feature towards the south.
01:51It could cause some problems on the roads through rush hour this evening.
01:54Temperatures struggling where you see lying snow struggling to get above freezing.
01:58It's going to be a bitterly cold day with icy surfaces.
02:02So that frost returns with a vengeance further south as we head through the evening.
02:06This rain and snow retreats, which is good news, through evening and overnight.
02:11And we see starry skies.
02:13Now yet again, those wintry showers will continue to affect windward facing coasts.
02:18But look at this. Temperatures are going to be lower than the last few nights.
02:22So a widespread and severe frost into Thursday morning.
02:25Across the snowfields of the north where the winds are light and you see clearer skies,
02:29we could see temperatures down as low as minus 12 to minus 14 degrees Celsius.
02:34So it's bitter outside as we approach Thursday morning.
02:38And yet still across the far southeast through the early hours,
02:41that mix of rain and snow continues with the risk of ice as well as it retreats.
02:46So a cold start to the day, a very cold start on Thursday.
02:49Clearer skies, some freezing fog patches where the winds have been light.
02:53And yet again, we'll see those showers continuing along coastlines
02:57and pushing in across Wales' Irish Sea coast there.
03:00Now on Friday, after a widespread and severe frost,
03:04we'll see brighter skies across the north and northeast.
03:07Temperatures struggling towards the west.
03:09The cloud will thicken. There is a chance any rain which is associated with that cloud could turn to snow.
03:14Yet again, we'll keep you posted on all our social media channels.
03:18For today though, stay warm, stay safe and I'll see you again soon.
