This week, as a bonus LP Eats video review, we decided to head down to Greggs to see how the pizza form a place famous for pastries compares to authentic Italian joints...

00:00Hi guys, my name's Jack Marshall, I'm a digital reporter with the Lancashire Post
00:07and Blackpool Gazette Newspapers and welcome to something a little different with LPs today.
00:13Now as people will know if you're a regular viewer of our series, we're currently doing
00:17the top 10 pizza places in Preston. We're going through each one, we're trying it out,
00:21we're rating it across five different categories, but there's one place which I really wanted
00:25to review but which isn't that famous for its pizza, it's kind of famous for other things,
00:30it didn't get any recommendations, it's not one of the highest rated places, but I think
00:34it's one of those places which is sneakily underrated and it's a well-known chain, so
00:39I thought, you know what, we're going to do a bit of a sub-episode, a bit of a bonus episode
00:42this week on Greg's Pizza. Now as you can see here, I've got myself two slabs of Greg's
00:48Pizza, I've got the pepperoni and I've got the regular margherita. Now we are going to
00:52rate this with the same kind of, same plan that we usually follow when we rate it on
00:57the quality of the dough, the quality of the sauce and the cheese, the quality of the toppings,
01:02value for money and just the vibe in the place. Now, I'm going to start off with the vibe
01:06of the place, obviously it was a Greg's, you're in and out, that's it, it's fast food, it's
01:11fastest, it's, you know, grab your pastry, grab your sausage roll, grab your steak bake,
01:16grab your pizza and run out, so it's a three out of five, it was what it was. Actually,
01:21do you know what, I'm going to bump it up to a four out of five because the lady was
01:23really lovely and she got me flour, so that's always a really nice thing to have. Yeah,
01:28so I'm going to give them a four out of five for the vibe of the place. So yeah, so I thought
01:32why not this time, as opposed to me trying it and then coming back and giving you a low
01:36down on everything, I'll do a bit of a light taste test. I've not had my lunch yet, it's
01:39getting on for 12 o'clock, I'm starving here, so let's crack on. I'm going to go with the
01:42pepperoni first, like I said, I wanted to do this because I'm a fan of Greg's Pizza,
01:46I think they've got a little something to it, I think it's probably just a little sugar
01:49in the sauce, if I'm honest, but I think it's worth reviewing. So let's have eight
01:53bites. Okay, so my first thing, if you'll excuse me, I'm chatting with my mouth slightly
02:03full, my first reaction is they do very thick bases, so the dough's not really for me, it's
02:08very bready, and when I say it's not for me, it's not for me when we're kind of classifying
02:13it next to all the really nice pizzas we've had, but there's something quite satisfying
02:19about how airy it is, so if we're ranking it compared to other pizzas, the dough's not
02:27good, but when you kind of grade it as its own thing, I quite like Greg's Pizza dough,
02:34because it's just so bready, and it's, you know, sometimes if you just want something
02:38which is a bit carby, which is a bit, you know, like, stodgy, it does the job, because
02:44I mean, it's bready, it's what you want, but it's not, like, chewy and claggy, it's got
02:51a bit of airiness to it, so that's good as well. I'm gonna have another bash to get a
02:54bit more pepperoni. Yeah, the sauce is the thing that stands out, like I said before,
03:03the sauce is really sweet, so I kind of like it, again, if I'm judging this on my normal
03:09kind of standards for a pizza, the sauce is too sweet, it needs more tanginess, but when
03:16it's Greg's and you just want something which is gonna scratch an itch, I like the sauce,
03:22it's got, it's just got sweetness to it, it's got, like, it ticks all those little buttons
03:26in your brain which are gonna hit you with a little bit of dopamine, it's got the fat,
03:30it's got the salt, it's got the heat, it's got the sugar, it's just like, yeah, yeah,
03:35yeah, it's just dopamine, tidy up, it's fine, this is brilliant, this is all you need. So
03:40yeah, the sauce is not the best, but I'm gonna give it a three, because I like it despite
03:44of itself. The toppings, that's thin pepperoni, not got much of a flavour profile. I'll be
03:49honest, when you're getting Domino's, when you're getting Greg's pizza, you're not going
03:55for, like, quality, you just want the salt, you want the hits, so that's a two, though.
04:00I'm gonna give a go on the Margherita, give the Margherita a chance and see what that's
04:04like, I'm gonna go this end, a bit cheesier. Better, in terms of the cheese, so, mmm, more
04:17sauce coming through there, it's almost like a barbecue flavour to the sauce, actually.
04:20I know they don't do barbecue, but it's almost there. The cheese, er, yeah, the cheese isn't
04:27massive either, it's the same as the pepperoni, you're not going for it, for that kind of
04:31profile, with your cheese and your pepperoni, you're not looking for crazy quality profile
04:34from this kind of thing, but, yeah, this is just satisfaction without quality, if you
04:40know what I mean. This is, I remember last season when I reviewed the McDonald's Big
04:45Mac as part of the burger series, that was just disappointing, this isn't disappointing,
04:50this is, er, this is kind of just like, your base Neanderthal instincts of what you want
04:56from food, it's just all the little boxes tick, like I said before, so, yeah, I'll give
05:00the cheese a 2, same as the pepperoni, but overall value, these 2 slices which are properly
05:05hefty and which will fill me up for lunch and then some, erm, cost me £4.30, so that's
05:11a bargain, that's 5 out of 5 in terms of value, so, yeah, overall, I think that's a pretty
05:16solid score from Greg's, given that they're famous for other things, for, you know, your
05:20coffees and your pastries these days, something like this to have on the side, I mean, I've
05:24got to say, when I'm ordering a sausage roll, I'm getting a cheeky slice of peach at the
05:27same time, just to tide me over, so, yeah, I just thought I'd have to do with Greg's,
05:31because Greg's is Greg's, we all love a Greg's, don't we, so, how many times can I say Greg's
05:34in a video, but, yeah, that's our review of Greg's through LPE, so I hope you enjoyed
05:39it, I hope you are now craving a Greg's yourself and you can go out and get yourself one, but
