00:00 Hi, my name is Jack Marshall. I'm a digital reporter with Lancashire Post and I'm coming
00:08 to you today from our Preston offices. Just about to head out over across town for the
00:13 latest installment of our LPE series. Now, people who've been watching a few obviously
00:17 know that we're reviewing kebabs. We've been to quite a few locations so far. We went to
00:22 Sandos last week and today we're heading to another absolute classic Preston takeaway,
00:27 which received quite a lot of shout outs and quite a lot of recommendations when we first
00:32 put the call to arms out to ask you, the readers, where the best places in Preston to get kebab
00:37 were. And this place, Karen and Gaten, mention after mention. And that is obviously Mick's
00:42 Hut up near the railway station. So really looking forward to this one. I've kind of
00:46 purposefully kept it till quite towards the end of our series because it's got such a
00:50 good reputation. It's so well known. It's so beloved. So yeah, I'm going to finish up
00:57 here, walk on over to the railway station, grab a kebab from Mick's Hut and I'll let
01:00 you know how it all goes.

01:48 Right, on to the review part of our overall LP Eats review of Mick's Hut in Preston. Like
01:54 I say, really excited to finally get a chance to come down to Mick's Hut and try out the
01:58 kebabs because they've got such a good reputation locally. They've come so strongly recommended.
02:02 It's really key, really pleased to eventually try it out and bring you some scores. So to
02:06 start with the naan, five out of five. It's exactly what you want from a naan. It was
02:10 soft, it had good texture, it brought something to the meal. It wasn't just there. It was
02:14 thick, it was pillowy, everything you want. Literally, you cannot find a way to improve
02:18 that. So that's a five out of five. On to the meat now. The meat is a 4.5 out of five.
02:23 The only way I'm marking it down slightly is that it wasn't quite the classic shawarma
02:29 cut off a spit, that kind of thing. It's more like shish, a style chicken or probably on
02:34 small individual spits. That's just a vibe I'm getting. I might be wrong there, but this
02:37 is a vibe I'm getting from it. It was lovely. It was, yeah, that lovely red tinge to it,
02:41 bit of a charcoal tinge to it as well. Flavours were excellent, nice and juicy, loads of it.
02:46 It would have been a 5.5, five out of five, but I'm giving it a 4.5 because it's just
02:51 not quite that classic style which you expect from a classic chicken shawarma. So I'm being
02:56 nitpicky there, but that's the score I'm landing on. On to the extras now, 3.5 out of five
03:00 for me. This is where the kebab let itself down slightly. If you're going to find any
03:06 facet where it wasn't quite tip top, it was the fact that the salad was just not quite
03:12 what you want. You want something fresh, something cold, something with a bit of snap to it to
03:16 offset the warmth and the softness of an actual kebab, the kebab and the meat itself and the
03:21 naan. So the fact that the salad itself just, it tasted like it had been almost like left
03:26 out a little too long. It didn't taste fresh. Now that might just be me, it's a personal
03:31 opinion. If I was to go back to Mix Hut and get another kebab, which I'm sure we'll do
03:35 at some point, I'd probably ask for no salad. So I'm giving it a 3.5 out of five, like I
03:42 say, because the other extra, which was the garlic mayo I got with it was brilliant. So
03:46 yeah, markdown slightly on that. On to the vibe of the place, five out of five for me.
03:51 I turned up as soon as they opened at 5pm. I looked very eager, very keen to get my afternoon/evening
03:57 kebab. So everyone in there was really nice, they were really friendly. They were already
04:01 doing takeout orders, you could see it was popular. They were dead friendly. It was cash
04:05 or card, that was convenient. They've also just, they've got good reputations locally
04:10 for, you know, the story recently where a bunch of school kids got stuck at Preston
04:14 Station on the way up to Scotland, I believe it was, and they basically helped them out
04:18 and gave them some food and stuff like that. They've got such a good reputation locally.
04:20 I just thought, this is great. This is a five out of five. So that's score on that front.
04:25 And then finally coming on to value. Now I paid £7.50 for this kebab, which is on the
04:30 slightly steeper side of things, but the size is massive. This thing looked like a rugby
04:34 ball. So there's plenty there for your money. Yeah, I think in terms of value, I am going
04:40 3.5 because I gave a four out of five to the kebab from Sandos, which was of a comparable
04:46 size, maybe slightly smaller, but the quality was better. Just about, I think it just shades
04:51 it. So I'm landing on 3.5 out of five because it's not an everyday, it's not the kind of
04:55 price where you buy it every day, but you did get a lot for your cash. There was a lot
04:59 there to fill you up and no mistake. So yeah, 3.5 to give it a total score of 21.5 out of
05:05 25, which is very nice. Puts it right up there near the top of the leaderboard. So we'll
05:10 do an updated table pretty soon. But yeah, that's my review of Mixhawk. Really pleased
05:13 I've finally been able to get down there.
05:15 Yeah, thanks for watching.
