Best of any cloud breaks will be across northern Scotland and northwest England, but it will remain cloudy elsewhere. The cloud may be thick enough for a few spots of drizzle at times. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 08/11/24. Bringing you todayβs weather forecast is Alex Deakin.

00:00Hello, happy Friday. Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04It's been a cloudy old week for much of the UK, not everywhere. Parts of northern
00:09Scotland have seen quite a bit of sunshine and again today in the
00:12satellite picture you can see that nice hole in the cloud, again generating quite
00:16a bit of blue sky here. It's also allowed for some fog first thing. Elsewhere we've
00:20kept the cloud. A few holes across northwest England, northern parts of
00:24Wales and the cloud is thick enough in the southwest of England to produce some
00:28drizzly conditions. So quite a damp day across parts of Devon, Cornwall and
00:33Somerset too. A bit of drizzle is possible in the east of Northern Ireland but most
00:36places again just dry and cloudy. That breeze is fairly light but dragging the
00:42air up over the hills which generates the breaks in the cloud across northwest
00:46England, particularly Cumbria and again across northern Scotland where
00:49temperatures are likely to get up to 13-14 degrees, maybe 15, not quite as warm
00:54as earlier in the week. In fact January temperatures have been dripping
00:57off over past few days. Only nine or ten across parts of eastern England will
01:01feel quite cool and not feeling very pleasant with the drizzle and the
01:04fairly brisk breeze around the coast of Devon and Cornwall. That damp weather
01:09will continue through the evening and overnight. The holes in the cloud will
01:13continue across northern Scotland which will again here allow temperatures to
01:17fall down close to freezing. One change through the night the cloud is going to
01:20thicken over these eastern counties producing some drizzly conditions over
01:24parts of Yorkshire all the way up to Aberdeenshire. Temperature wise, well that
01:30blanket of cloud will generally keep the temperatures up but colder air is
01:33moving in so it will be a chillier start to Saturday. Still most places a long way
01:38from freezing, six or seven Celsius, nine or ten further west. But in northern
01:42Scotland, yes where we've got those clearer skies, sheltered glens will again
01:46likely dip down to freezing. But again here we'll have some sunshine, any
01:50morning fog should clear away across northern Scotland. But it's these
01:54eastern counties of Scotland and to the northeast of England where it'll be a
01:57very different day. It'll be dank and drizzly, not very pleasant at all
02:02actually. Drizzly showers likely all the way down to Lincolnshire, maybe even
02:05north Norfolk. Parts of southern England again seeing a bit of drizzle, maybe a
02:08little bit more in the way of damp weather just moving into Northern
02:11Ireland for Saturday also. But elsewhere again many places just dry and cloudy.
02:16Again with some sunny skies, light winds, top temperatures in the northwest, 11, 12
02:21maybe 13 Celsius. But again temperatures for most places a degree or so down
02:25tomorrow compared to today. So with eight or nine Celsius on some of these North
02:29Sea coasts with that drizzly rain that will feel pretty cool even for the
02:34middle of November. Now as you go through Saturday evening, not a great deal of
02:38change but notice these bands of fairly weak looking rain just creeping in a
02:42little bit. So it will turn a bit wetter I suspect across Northern Ireland. Those
02:46weather fronts are making steady progress and slowly but surely eroding
02:50the area of high pressure that's been with us. This low is heading up towards
02:54Iceland but its weather front has a bit more about it, a bit more welly, a bit
02:58more oomph as it brings some more cloud and rain into the northwest. But as it
03:03moves through it will finally introduce some clearer conditions. Not really with
03:07us on Sunday, for most it's another drab day, but as the breeze picks up I think
03:12maybe a few more holes in the cloud are possible for parts of the Midlands,
03:15southeast England, so a bit of brightness here. There will be a little bit more in
03:18the way of rain as that weather front moves in across Scotland, Northern Ireland.
03:21Also some showery rain ahead of it for parts of Northern England and North
03:25Wales. Again many places will just be dry and cloudy but brighter skies coming
03:29into the far northwest. The winds picking up here as well particularly late in the
03:34day. Temperatures higher on Sunday though so it will feel a bit warmer
03:37particularly if you do get any sunny spells over central and eastern England.
03:40More likely to see those temperatures back into the teens. Most of us are
03:44likely to see some sunshine though on Monday. If you can't wait till then for
03:49your sunshine then check out the weather studio live. We are back so you can watch
03:53that. That'll definitely brighten your day.
