Tropical Storm Patty may form at the end of October or beginning of November, but if it does, where will it go?
Transcript
00:00And as we take a look into the tropics here, well, at first glance here we don't have anything
00:05ominous or imminently threatening the U.S., but we have a pretty photogenic storm here.
00:09This is a powerful Category 3 hurricane in the name of Hurricane Christy in the East Pacific.
00:14This was a Category 5, the only Category 5 of the year for the East Pacific Basin,
00:19and thankfully it's pooling north and staying way far from Hawaii and is far off the Mexican coast,
00:26and this storm is a bit weaker than it was, but still a powerhouse as a Category 3 hurricane.
00:30We've got to keep an eye on that one. There's the high-res view of how it appears.
00:33And then as we take you into the Atlantic here, we'll jump into this view of the western part
00:39of the Caribbean. Extra moisture is kind of congregating east of Nicaragua.
00:44There is some extra wind shear, which is keeping us quiet for the Gulf of Mexico.
00:48We love to see that stronger wind shear. It looks more like November there from Cuba West.
00:52But farther south, there's limited wind shear, and it's possible, in fact, it's likely that out of
00:57this disturbance here, after being fed some additional moisture in the maroon here, you can
01:02see more moisture streaming in over the course of the next several days. We'll eventually begin to
01:07see a system spin and organize somewhere near south or southwest of Jamaica around that time
01:13frame between Wednesday of next week and the following weekend. So if it is slow to organize,
01:18it would move west into Central America, maybe more similar to what we saw with Nadine. If it
01:23organizes a little earlier, a trough off the east coast could scoop this up and draw it north,
01:29and that could be a threat for areas around the southeast coast of the U.S. We've got to
01:32keep an eye on this one. If it does indeed become a tropical storm, that would be Patty
01:37in the Atlantic Basin.
