00:00It is now less than a month until we hear Apple reveal their new iPhone 16 series
00:06promising bigger screens and better battery life, new colors, a new button,
00:10faster charging, better connectivity, Apple intelligence. So let's talk about
00:13it. Is it actually gonna be worth getting excited about? Well we're gonna get new
00:17iPhone 16s and 16 pros, also most likely a refreshed Apple Series 10 watch and
00:22possibly new AirPods as well, but I want to focus on the new iPhones, what we know
00:26so far. But first in terms of timing, we're expecting Apple's event to be on
00:30Tuesday September the 10th. I don't know if I'm gonna be there yet, hopefully get
00:33an invite, we'll have to see if I've been a good boy this year, but a reveal on the
00:3710th and then most likely a launch on the 20th, like 10 days later, so you're
00:41probably gonna get your hands on a new iPhone 16 end of September. In terms of
00:45the iPhone models, we're likely to see a pretty similar setup to what we have
00:48right now with an iPhone 16, a 16 plus, 16 Pro and the big daddy a 16 Pro Max. Now
00:55this is the 15 Pro Max, 6.7 inch screen, but if the rumors are to be believed
00:59we're actually gonna see a slight bump in screen size for both the Pro and the
01:03Pro Max. So the Pro will go from 6.1 to 6.3, the Pro Max 6.7 to 6.9 inches, making
01:11the 16 Pro Max the biggest iPhone ever. Now that will probably be through
01:15thinner bezels, which is actually gonna be quite impressive given how thin these
01:18already are, but of course we did have this new titanium frame introduced with
01:22the 15 series which made the Pros quite a bit lighter. Do I want a bigger Pro Max?
01:26I don't know. However the regular iPhone 16 and 16 plus will remain at the same
01:32sizes, so it's not gonna be a significant change to design. The most obvious one
01:36will be the couple of new colors, but also this diagonal camera layout will
01:41now be vertical. Oh boy. The idea is that that will allow it to support spatial
01:47vision recording so you can buy your cheaper iPhone and then pair it with
01:51your three and a half thousand pound Vision Pro. To be fair, spatial video
01:55recording is only currently available on the Pro model, so that is a, you know,
02:00trickle-down feature there, but I'm not sure anyone's gonna care that much about
02:03that. Sticking with the design though, and one of the changes we had with the 15
02:06Pro series was the change from the mute toggle switch to this action button, this
02:10customizable action button which right now I've got set to take a picture.
02:15However I can actually free this up now because if the reports are to be
02:19believed we're actually gonna have a new dedicated shutter button like we've
02:22had on the Sony Xperia phones since the beginning of time. But I'm actually kind
02:26of excited about this because you'll be able to half or lightly press to
02:29refocus, very similar to what you have on a proper camera, with a firmer press
02:32taking the photo or starting the recording. And you'll be able to zoom in
02:35and out by swiping along the button as well. So for the 16 series we're gonna
02:39get the action button come down to the regular 16 phones and also a new shutter
02:44button on both. Which is all very nice, but if I could ask for one thing Apple
02:48just let me pause my video recording, let me switch between the rear and the
02:52front cameras while recording. I can do it on my Samsung phone, I can do on a lot
02:55of Android phones. Now in terms of the screen we're expecting the iPhone 16's
02:59with their OLED panels to be 20% brighter, now up to 1200 nits thanks to
03:04new micro lens array or MLA tech which recently we've seen in some TVs. So
03:08potentially a brighter screen and also as I mentioned earlier thinner bezels as
03:11well, hopefully to accommodate that slightly bigger screen. And apparently
03:15this will only be possible thanks to a new BRS system, a border reduction
03:19structure. Sounds like something Trump would like to be honest. But that'll help
03:22reduce the bezels while maintaining structural integrity. Although I'm sure
03:26we're gonna see Jerry rig everything pretty quickly and give this a nice bend.
03:31But we're still expecting the regular iPhone 16's to have a 60 Hertz screen.
03:37Basically the 2025 model of a phone that will probably start around 800 pounds.
03:4360? 60 Hertz? I know the argument is well the average person doesn't really care
03:48but the average person doesn't know what they're missing until they have it. And
03:52the fact that you have to pay like 300 pounds more to get a 120 Hertz Pro
03:56Motion on the Pro phones. Honestly we've been saying this for like three years
04:00how unforgivable it is that it's still a 60 Hertz display on the iPhone. You can
04:04tell I'm getting frustrated. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong, fingers crossed. So
04:08so far we're talking about new colors, new capture button for the camera, action
04:12button going to the regular 16's, slightly bigger screens for the Pro and
04:17Pro Max with thinner bezels. It's nothing too exciting so far is it? Let's talk
04:22about what's going on the inside with the new processors. This is a bit more
04:25interesting because we're gonna get the A18s. Now the big whoop-to-do this year
04:29obviously is about neural engine performance, the MPU, because we've got
04:33Apple Intelligence. Well I'll say we've got Apple Intelligence. America has Apple
04:36Intelligence. It's gonna be a pretty slow rollout. They've already delayed it a
04:39little bit to iOS 18.1 so it's gonna be after launch that Apple Intelligence
04:43will come with a software update but for now and for however long who knows it is
04:48gonna be US English only. We actually can't get it here in the UK or
04:52anywhere else in the world just yet. So we're gonna see a big push with the
04:55performance of the AI but for a lot of people it's not gonna make much
04:57difference at least straight away. Actually going back a bit what we don't
05:00know is whether the 16 will have the A18 and this will have the Pro or this will
05:04stick with the A17 Pro from last year and this will get the A18 Pro or in fact
05:09they'll just all use an A18 chip but the regular phone will have like a
05:12slightly lower binned model with a couple of cores disabled. There's some
05:15talk that they'll slightly change up the naming scheme of the processors in these
05:19but crucially as usual the Pro models will be a little bit faster. I think we
05:23can expect a small but meaningful boost to single core, multi-core and graphics
05:27performance but a much heftier boost to the neural engine MPU. And there is a
05:31rumored bump in RAM from 6 to 8 gigabytes which again is very much AI
05:35focused because it turns out running AI locally on your device actually uses
05:38quite a bit of RAM. What I'm more excited about though is the rumor of a
05:42new graphene based design to help cool the phone because one of my biggest
05:46issues with the iPhone as great as it is powerful is it gets too hot. Gaming we
05:51get throttling performance goes down it gets really hot in the back even with
05:54using the camera it can overheat sometimes and frequently when I've got
05:58the brightness maxed out if I'm out you know using it outside on a sunny day
06:01it'll say your iPhone's too hot needs to cool down even when a while it's
06:04charging. There's definitely an overheating issue with the current phones
06:07so hopefully with this new graphene design which we have seen in some
06:11Android phones it'll help keep the 16 pros cooler that actually would be a
06:14legitimate worthy upgrade. And paired with the reports of a slightly bigger
06:18battery and hopefully a more efficient processor especially if more tasks can
06:22be offloaded from the CPU and GPU onto the MPU we may actually end up with a
06:27decent improvement to battery life with the 16 Pro and Pro Max having a 5 or 6
06:32percent larger battery. And there's more! Finally finally we're getting slightly
06:36faster charging I can't even remember the last time Apple put some effort into
06:40charging but neither can I with Samsung or Google to be fair but we're now
06:43looking at 40 watt wired charging up from 25 and also 20 watt wireless MagSafe
06:49charging up from 15 currently now obviously there will be questions around
06:52will you need to buy a new charger if we know Apple the answer is probably yes
06:56they don't bundle it in the box so I'm sure you can have the luxury of spending
07:0050 pounds or so on a new fancy 40 watt wired charger but you know what yes I
07:04will take a faster charging iPhone thank you very much. Now in terms of
07:08connectivity we're expecting to finally see Wi-Fi 7 on the new Pro and Pro Max
07:13we're going to see the new X75 modem the Snapdragon up from the current X70 so
07:17hopefully better network connectivity Wi-Fi 7 as I say on the Pro models but
07:22for me and I reckon quite a few you the most exciting thing I look forward to
07:25every time we get a new iPhone is what changes we see to the camera. There are
07:30reports that the 16 Pro and Pro Max will get an upgraded 48 megapixel ultra-wide
07:34camera which should be able to capture a lot more light for better photos and
07:37videos especially in low-light and also for the first time we'll be able to
07:41capture 48 megapixel Pro Raw photos and also both Pro models will have the
07:455x telephoto currently with the 15 Pro you get 3x the 15 Pro Max 5x however to
07:52help tempt you to part with even more of your hard-earned money and opt for the
07:56bigger 16 Pro Max there are reports that the 5x telephoto lens will in fact be a
08:02new design with a new super telephoto periscope for much greater zoom reach
08:06up to 300 millimeter equivalent this is a bit of an old rumor though so I am on
08:11the fence as to whether we get this what is more likely though is that the main
08:14lens the main camera will get an improved 8 part hybrid lens design and
08:18crucially a larger sensor size which will be great to see because we've got
08:21some Android phones now that give us 1 inch sensors so a bigger sensor means it
08:25can capture more light clearer images especially in low light that would be
08:29great so like a lot of people I've actually already downloaded iOS 18 the
08:33beta it's in a developer beta also a public beta it'll go live as the new
08:37phones come out in September and with iOS 18.1 we get Apple intelligence and
08:42you can see here this new Apple intelligence and Siri menu but then you
08:47can also see hopefully if it focuses this is not available in your country
08:51but there are also hardware restrictions because right now only the 15 pros with
08:56it's a 17 pro chip is supported for Apple intelligence so one of the big
09:01marketing messages that we'll see with Apple get yourself upgraded to a 16
09:04series whether it's the base models or the pro because they will all support
09:07Apple intelligence assuming you're in America we don't know when it's gonna
09:10launch globally you'll be able to make your custom gen emojis and generate
09:14images summarize text proofread so I think whereas with the iPhone 15 series
09:19the big reason to upgrade was the USB C port at least it was for me it's so
09:23handy not having to deal with lightning connectors anymore for the 16 series I
09:26think that one thing is going to be the support for Apple intelligence and
09:30hopefully in a couple of months it'll be available globally and finally the
09:34biggest reason to upgrade of course the colors with some suggesting bolder shades
09:39on the 16 and 16 plus including blue black pink green white and from photos
09:44leaked of a supposed 16 pro max dummy unit there's a gray color which could be
09:49the new rumored polished titanium rather than the natural titanium we currently
09:52have a white or a silvery white color and a black which actually looks darker
09:57than the space black we last saw on the iPhone 14 Pro and that is pretty much
10:01what we know so far what do you think are you gonna be tempted to upgrade or
10:05you're gonna give it a miss this year let me know what you make of the new 16
10:07series thank you so much for watching guys don't forget to hit that subscribe
