00:00Hi there. The UK's weather is in a particularly turbulent mood at the moment. Wind and rain
00:07for many through the rest of the day, followed by a plunge in temperature. What we've got
00:12is a cold front moving south. That's bringing an area of cloud and outbreaks of rain around
00:17the middle of the afternoon through mid Wales, south Wales, parts of the Midlands. To the
00:20south of that, some patchy cloud and rain. To the north of that, much brighter sky, some
00:25sunny spells for north Wales, northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, but also frequent
00:30blustery showers. And the wind picking up strength through the day could cause some
00:33issues for north east Scotland, particularly on some of the roads like the A90 for example,
00:40and of course the ferry crossings, bridges and so on. 50, 60 mile per hour wind gusts
00:45through the rest of the day, along with some heavy rain for Orkney and Shetland. Shetland
00:49could see 60 to 80 millimetres of rain accumulating. So, yellow wind and rain warnings in force.
00:55Check the latest details on the Met Office app and website. Now, by the afternoon, or
01:00at least by the end of the afternoon, the cloud and rain is across southern parts, feeling
01:03a lot cooler compared with yesterday. Because of that, 16 to 18 Celsius and cold winds are
01:09starting to arrive in the north, 12 to 13 Celsius at best for much of Scotland. But
01:15it's going to get colder as those winds from the Arctic set in across much of the UK, clearing
01:20the rain south through the evening. Clearer skies for many, and lengthy clear spells at
01:25that for the south and the east. But frequent showers continue to roll into the north and
01:30north west of the UK. Those showers merging to longer spells of rain for north west England,
01:34parts of northern and western Scotland for example. But the more persistent wet weather
01:38and the strongest of the winds do tend to ease from the far north east of Scotland.
01:42Nevertheless, it's a cold night. Temperatures widely in the single figures and in some spots
01:47mid single figures or even a touch lower. And the reason for that is a wind direction
01:54straight from the Arctic, a long fetch coming in from the north and unusually cold conditions
02:00for Wednesday and Thursday across the UK. So we start off Wednesday with a fresh feel
02:06certainly but plenty of sunshine for the south and the east. Bright skies but a lot of clouds
02:11developing and a lot of showers coming in. Most places will see a shower at least or
02:18two but some places will be prone to an awful lot of showers, especially the north and west
02:23of Scotland, northern Ireland, north west England, north Wales. Further south with some
02:27shelter and well I'd say a lot further for those showers to form and to move. The south
02:35coast will be mostly dry, just the odd passing shower later in the day here, otherwise some
02:40decent sunny spells. However, wherever you are, it's going to feel cold. Fifteen or sixteen
02:46Celsius at best in the south, eleven to thirteen at best in the north and in some places temperatures
02:52staying in the single figures throughout the day. It's cold enough in fact for some flakes
02:57of snow over the tops of the Scottish mountains, a centimetre or so falling but unsettling
03:03but nothing particularly worrisome at lower levels. It is of course only the beginning
03:09of September. It won't feel like the beginning of September though because of the clear skies
03:14and the widespread chill as we start off Thursday. A touch of frost in places even. Follow us
