00:00Hello, and welcome to your weekend forecast from the Met Office. The last weekend, of
00:05course, before Christmas. Not going to offer much in the way of brightness. It looks like
00:09being a fairly grey, gloomy affair for many. But there's not going to be much in the way
00:13of rainfall either. It's looking dry for the vast majority at times. And in a few spots,
00:19there could be some quite dense patches of fog around. When the outlook is like this
00:23at this time of year, you can usually guarantee high pressure is nearby. And this one is sitting
00:28right across the UK. And it's going to stick around through the weekend and into the first
00:33part of the Christmas week as well, keeping things largely dry. But we will notice temperatures
00:38dropping off as we go into the weekend. It is going to feel quite a bit colder. And for many,
00:43it is going to be pretty cloudy too. Now, not everywhere. I suspect much of northern Scotland,
00:48parts of southern Scotland, far north of England, west Wales, southwest England will see some
00:52brightness and a bit of sunshine coming through. But certainly for much of east Wales and a large
00:58portion of England, it's going to be fairly glum. And particularly across these eastern areas,
01:02mist, low clouds and even in places some stubborn fog patches. Staying fairly cloudy too across
01:08northern Ireland. But even here, we may see some brightness and a bit of sunshine. Could see
01:13temperatures climbing up in the southwest up to double digits. Where it stays misty and murky,
01:18though, we're going to struggle to get much of a five or six Celsius. Notice the highest
01:23temperature probably going to be over the mountains of Scotland. On the tops of the
01:27mountains here, we could for a time on Saturday get temperatures into the teens. High pressure
01:33still with us then through Saturday night and into Sunday. Just a slight shift in the position
01:39of the high just opens the door to some colder air coming in. But that's not really until next week.
01:46Generally speaking, not a lot of change on Sunday. Again, where we've got breaks in the cloud,
01:50there could be some frost to start the day and there will again be some fog patches coming. And
01:57once they come, they're likely to stick around. It's hard to shift fog at this time of year.
02:01Bit of a change of the breeze coming in more from the North Sea across these eastern areas.
02:06Again, parts of northern Scotland, West Wales, southwest England doing OK for
02:10brightness and sunny spells. But for most, dry and glum sums it up. And again, temperatures
02:17below average for most for the time of year, five, six degrees, especially where it stays
02:21misty and murky. And even the mountains of Scotland won't be as warm on Sunday. As for
02:26the outlook into Christmas week, well, the dry theme continues, but it is set to perhaps turn a
02:31little bit colder and we could see some changes in terms of that high pressure as we head towards
02:36the Christmas period. That could bring some wet weather and possibly even some wintry weather as
02:43well. But it's just too early at this stage to put any kind of detail. So the message is throughout
02:48next week, stay tuned to the Met Office forecasts. And the best way to do that is to stay connected
02:54by following us on social media.
