Weekend weather – Further rain after a dry bright start

This weekend starts dry for most and a little chilly. Cloud and rain will spread into western areas during the day but much of the east will stay dry. Sunday sees a switch with much of the east seeing rain whilst brighter skies may follow.

00:00Hello. Welcome to your weekend
00:02forecast from the Met Office.
00:04It's going to start fine and
00:05bright for most places, although
00:06a little bit chilly on Saturday
00:08morning. However, there is
00:10more rain to come, a
00:12bit like last weekend.
00:13The heaviest and most persistent
00:14rain is likely on Saturday
00:17night. And before we get to the
00:18rain arriving over the weekend, we
00:20have to get rid of an area
00:22of low pressure that's been named
00:23Storm Lorenzo by the Irish
00:25Meteorological Service, bringing
00:26some wet and windy weather early
00:28on Friday, but really fizzling
00:29out quite quickly during Friday.
00:31And then there's a brief
00:33window of drier weather before
00:35the next set of weather fronts
00:36come marching in.
00:37These will be edging in fairly
00:39slowly, actually, tied into an
00:41area of low pressure that is a
00:42long, long way away.
00:43And these weather fronts will be
00:44bringing cloud and patchy rain
00:46into Northern Ireland first thing
00:47on Saturday morning.
00:49Elsewhere, generally, Saturday,
00:50as I said, starts dry,
00:52if a little bit chilly.
00:54And many eastern areas will stay
00:55dry through the day with some
00:57hazy sunshine.
00:58But you can see the cloud is
00:59increasing as those weather fronts
01:01creep in, bringing rain
01:02and drizzle across parts of
01:03Western England, Wales and the
01:05rain. It's getting more persistent
01:06across Western Scotland, quite a
01:08soggy old day across Northern
01:10Ireland and the winds also
01:11picking up.
01:13Temperature wise, well, with a bit
01:14of brightness across the east, we
01:15could get into the high teens
01:17briefly, but mostly we're looking
01:19at 13 to 15 degrees Celsius
01:21and feeling cooler as the wet
01:23weather pushes into the west.
01:25Now, those weather fronts will
01:26continue to edge in during
01:28Saturday night and then
01:30they kind of grind to a halt.
01:31Notice some brighter colours in
01:32there as well. It could be some
01:33quite heavy bursts of rain through
01:35Saturday night and Sunday morning,
01:37especially over the hills and
01:38mountains of Northern England
01:39and Scotland.
01:40Now, there is some uncertainty
01:42about exactly how quickly
01:43these weather fronts push in and
01:45clear away.
01:46So they may hang back a little bit
01:47more, but generally
01:49eastern areas starting soggy on
01:51Sunday, the rain could linger for
01:52much of the day across eastern
01:54Scotland.
01:54There'll be a few showers falling
01:56on behind, particularly parts of
01:57Northern England.
01:58But actually for the west and
02:00south, Sunday by and
02:02large should see some brighter
02:04skies coming in and we'll see some
02:05sunshine developing.
02:07The winds will be moving in
02:09from the North Sea on some eastern
02:10coasts and coming down from the
02:12northwest across Wales and the
02:13southwest.
02:14It's going to make a fresh feel
02:16despite some sunshine.
02:17But again, we should just about
02:19get into the mid to even
02:21high teens across the southeast.
02:23The temperatures through the
02:24weekend, generally around about
02:25average, but it will be a bit of
02:27a chilly old start and there is
02:29more rain to come.
02:29Even behind me, you can see the
02:31next weather system waiting to
02:32move in as we go into Monday.
02:34So stay up to date with
02:36the forecast through this weekend.
02:37As I said at the time of recording,
02:39still a bit of uncertainty about
02:40the details for Sunday.
02:42Best way to stay up to date is
