00:00You know what that means?
00:01Allah took one sacred relationship
00:04to prepare the child
00:06for the ultimate sacred relationship,
00:08which is why.
00:09As-salamu alaykum.

00:35Now, we switch gears.
00:45It's gonna feel like it's a different surah.
00:48And how many villages,
00:50towns, cities have there been
00:52that disobeyed the commandment of their master,
00:55and disobeyed the commandment of their messenger.
00:57So we took them to account with an intense audit,
01:01and we punished them
01:03in a way that was never even heard of before.
01:07This is what Allah is saying.
01:08Destruction of past nations.
01:11Where did that come from?
01:13I'm not gonna tell you yet.
01:15I'll tell you by the end today.
01:17ูˆูŽูƒูŽุฃูŽูŠูู‘ู…ู’
01:17Let's start with the first word.
01:26It means,
01:27Oh my God, how many,
01:29on top of many,
01:30on top of many,
01:31and then it's clarified with ู…ู† something.
01:34So what an enormous number of civilizations
01:38have there been,
01:40ู‚ูŽุฑู’ูŠูŽุฉูŽ
01:41have there been,
01:41towns have there been,
01:42that disobeyed the commandment of their Rabb.
01:45Can you name some of these towns that Allah mentioned?
01:48Some of them.
01:48I mean, He's saying there's a lot more than He mentioned.
01:51But some of them that He mentioned, do you know?
01:54Aad, Thamud, even Fir'aun for example.
01:57There's these qur'a that were destroyed, right?
02:00And Allah talks about them,
02:02Right?
02:03So, let's talk now about a little bit for,
02:08maybe I should just tell you now.
02:10Fine, I'll just tell you now.
02:11I call this the first and the last domino.
02:13So let me explain what I mean by that.
02:17You have family law,
02:21which is what we saw, a glimpse of family law.
02:24And I told you earlier on in today's discussions,
02:27in the previous ayah,
02:28that the bond of the man and the woman is sacred in the Qur'an.
02:32And actually the first bond of human beings
02:34was the bond of Adam and Hawa,
02:36was the bond of marriage, right?
02:37So it's the most sacred bond in existence
02:40between human beings.
02:41Okay.
02:42Now, having said that,
02:44because of that bond being sacred,
02:47the way you enter into it,
02:48the way a man and woman can be together,
02:50needs to be sacred.
02:51And the way they end that also needs to be sacred.
02:54Right? That's what we described.
02:56And as a result of that,
02:57because there's so much care put into
02:59how a man and woman come together,
03:01as a result of that,
03:02the child that is born from that relationship
03:05is also a sacred responsibility, is it not?
03:09And as a result of that,
03:10the child is also told to honor the two people
03:13that came together
03:14to bring that child into this world.
03:16And so,
03:18And the relationship we have with our parents
03:20is also what?
03:22Sacred.
03:23So now, humanity is building this system,
03:27and the first...
03:28Think about a child.
03:30The first instance of shukr,
03:33or tawakkul, right?
03:35Or, who does a child turn to when they're scared?
03:38Like a believer turns to Allah when they're in fear.
03:42But when a child has fear,
03:43and a child has hope,
03:44who do they turn to?
03:46Parents.
03:48When we need rizq,
03:49we turn to Allah.
03:50When a child needs food,
03:51what does he turn to?
03:52The parents, right?
03:55When a child needs anything,
03:58who do they call?
03:59When we need something,
04:00we make dua to Allah.
04:01When a child needs something,
04:02who do they call?
04:04Allah used the parents
04:07as a training for a child
04:08whose mind isn't yet developed,
04:10to eventually replace the parents with Allah.
04:14Everything the child was doing with Allah,
04:16as the child grows older,
04:18He replaces that with
04:20the parents.
04:20And that's why you notice the language,
04:25So you don't stop thanking your parents,
04:26but you realize
04:27that the gratitude you have to your parents,
04:29behind that gratitude is your gratitude to
04:32Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
04:33But the way Allah taught the human being
04:35the gratitude to Allah,
04:36the first training,
04:36Allah did not,
04:37you know, even the child is born with fitrah,
04:39it doesn't come out saying,
04:40ูˆูŽุงู„ู’ุญูŽู…ู’ุฏู ู„ูู„ูŽู‘ู‡ู
04:42It doesn't do that.
04:44Right?
04:45And the first words that come out of its mouth
04:46eventually is not,
04:47Allah,
04:49in our mama, baba,
04:52first words, right?
04:54You know what that means?
04:55Allah took one sacred relationship
04:59to prepare the child
05:00for the ultimate sacred relationship,
05:02which is what?
05:04The relationship with Allah.
05:06So now, what I'm trying to tell you is,
05:08the marriage is sacred,
05:10the child is sacred,
05:11the child coming up
05:13and learning the relationship with his parents
05:15and being grateful to his parents
05:16and her parents is sacred,
05:18and all of that eventually leads to the regard
05:20one is supposed to have for Allah azza wa jalla.
05:22In fact, you know how the famous hadith
05:25of the Prophet ๏ทบ says,
05:29If you can't thank people, you can't thank Allah.
05:32Well, the first instance of that is,
05:33if you can't even acknowledge
05:35the best behavior to your own mother
05:38who gave you birth, right?
05:40That she brought you into this world,
05:43then how are you going to thank
05:45the one who brought you into this world
05:47that you can't even see?
05:49And that's Allah.
05:50So it's only logical
05:52that you are trained with the seen
05:54to prepare you for the unseen.
05:56Now having said all of that,
05:58from this comes an entire system
06:00of blood ties being sacred.
06:04And from this then comes this idea
06:06that the yatama,
06:08yatama are people whose sacred tie
06:10parents have been cut.
06:12So they become yatim.
06:14So what does Allah do?
06:15He says,
06:21That ayah ends with
06:23taqwa of al-arham in surah an-Nisa.
06:25What's the immediate next statement?
06:29Give to the yatama.
06:30Why?
06:31Because now it's your sacred duty,
06:32you as a community,
06:34must cover for those
06:35who don't have the shadow
06:36of that other sacred relationship,
06:38their parents.
06:39So you must go cover for them.
06:41You must help them.
06:42Now, imagine a society
06:44in which the man and the woman
06:46coming together is not sacred.
06:48They can just get together,
06:50hook up and hook off,
06:53and sink their hook somewhere else.
06:55And they can just have
06:56casual relationships.
06:58Nothing is sacred about it.
07:00Nothing.
07:01If such a society existed,
07:03I mean you wouldn't know
07:04such a society,
07:05but I'm saying hypothetically,
07:07if such a society existed,
07:09then the child that comes into existence
07:11as a result of that,
07:12union,
07:13is that child being treated
07:16as something sacred?
07:18No.
07:19Because the union from which he came,
07:22or she came,
07:23itself wasn't sacred.
07:25So the child is not being treated
07:27as someone sacred.
07:28And will that child see their mother
07:30or father as sacred figures
07:32to be thankful to,
07:33to be,
07:34to turn to,
07:35to learn from,
07:36so they can eventually
07:37turn to the ultimately sacred.
07:38Will that happen?
07:40No.
07:41In fact,
07:42they'll talk to their mom and say,
07:44yeah Jennifer,
07:44I'm busy right now.
07:47Or call their mom by their first name.
07:50I don't know my dad,
07:51and if I knew him,
07:52I'd beep, beep, beep.
07:55You'd get a society
07:56where the parents are no longer sacred.
07:59Which means that,
08:00by the way,
08:01for a child who's coming up naturally,
08:03who are the most important people
08:05in the life of a child?
08:07Parents.
08:08If you remove the parents
08:10from the equation,
08:11you know what that means?
08:11There's nobody important left.
08:14If no one's around that's left,
08:16the only one that's sacred is who?
08:21No, not Allah,
08:22not for that young man.
08:26Yourself.
08:27Now you're sacred.
08:28Looking out for number one, baby.
08:31Now everyone else is a burden.
08:34The only one that matters is me.
08:36The whole universe revolves around me.
08:40Now imagine an entire society
08:42of millions of people
08:44who have removed the sacredness
08:46of the man and the woman coming together,
08:48and the child becoming a sacred responsibility.
08:51What happens to such a society
08:53when you say,
08:54listen to your Rabb?
08:58They're like, Rabb?
09:00I don't even listen to my mom.
09:02I don't even listen to anybody.
09:05You know who I listen to?
09:06Me.
09:08That's who I listen to.
09:10A nation as a nation
09:12that entirely rebels
09:14against the command of their Rabb
09:16because they have no authority.
09:18They don't recognize any authority.
09:20Why would I listen to a messenger?
09:22Another human being?
09:24He's just human.
09:25Well, the first people
09:26you were supposed to have regard for
09:27were also human, weren't they?
09:30But you don't have that.
09:30You don't have,
09:31as a culture in that society,
09:32you don't have it.
09:34Once you remove the sacredness of family,
09:37you have prepared a society
09:38for eventual,
09:41not just kufr, but utu.
09:42And we'll discuss utu in a second.
09:44What is it?
09:46What does that mean?
09:47We'll dig into that a little bit.
09:49But what I'm saying is,
09:50the first part of this surah
09:52was the first domino
09:53that you need to keep from falling.
09:56But if you don't let that domino fall,
09:59dominoes will continue to fall
10:00until you get to the final domino,
10:02which is what?
10:08And all the other dominoes in between,
10:10you're too smart,
10:11you can figure that out yourself.
