'Julian' moves away from Batanes, but signal No. 4 remains in effect

Typhoon "Julian" (international name: Krathon) began to move away from Batanes on Monday afternoon, September 30, but the province remains under Signal No. 4, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). Rainfall warnings are also still in effect for parts of Northern Luzon.

As of 4:00 p.m. Monday, Julian was located 95 kilometers west-southwest of Itbayat, Batanes, moving west-northwest at 15 kilometers per hour (kph) towards the northwestern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The typhoon continues to pack maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gusts of up to 215 kph.

PAGASA also noted that Julian may intensify into a super typhoon within the day, potentially bringing more severe weather conditions.
