00:02In this video, I will explain the ending of Mulligan, so, let's begin.

00:06Created by Robert Carlock and Sam Means, Netflix's A Mulligan is a satirical animated series.

00:12The story follows an unlikely group of characters who are forced to lead what seems like the

00:16remnants of humanity as the head of the U.S. government.

00:19With its low-cost animation and top-tier voice cast, Mulligan follows the blueprint many

00:24modern Western animation projects adhere to.

00:27The show strives to satirize politics, entertainment, and social norms.

00:31Although it is not always successful, there are admittedly moments of utter brilliance

00:35scattered throughout the first season.

00:37Here is everything you might want to know about the ending of A Mulligan of season 1,

00:41just to let you know this video will contain spoilers.

00:44The series begins with the invasion of the aliens from planet Cardi B, they destroy most

00:48of the planet, nearly wiping out the entire humanity.

00:51As the Cardi B-ans close in on Washington D.C., sitting president Brad Chadman vanishes

00:56and is presumed dead.

00:58Just as the aliens are about to destroy the White House, two people arrive on a glider.

01:02We later learn that their names are Matty Mulligan and Lucy Sewan.

01:06Matty is a quintessential dumb, generally courageous jock.

01:10He and Lucy land on top of a giant alien spaceship.

01:13Matty grabs a grenade and throws it into the ship through one of the air vents.

01:17It sets fire to the main spaceship, killing almost all the invading aliens except one,

01:22Axatrax, who is taken captive.

01:24Neither Matty nor Lucy is particularly bright.

01:28But the role they played in defeating the Cardi B-ans effectively makes them the most

01:31popular people on the planet.

01:33Among the political class of the US, only Senator Cartwright Lamar, Dana Carvey, survives.

01:39He convinces Matty to be the President of the United States while Lamar assumes the

01:42duties of the Vice President.

01:45In the pre-invasion world, Lamar spent his entire life waiting for his turn, which never

01:49came.

01:50Now, as the world has changed, he eagerly tries to establish himself as an important

01:54component of the new world.

01:56As he doesn't particularly like Lucy and wants a white first lady for this new world, Lamar

02:01actively tries to sabotage the relationship between Matty and Lucy.

02:05However, it's not like they need any help.

02:08Matty and Lucy came together under the direst of circumstances, but as things have begun

02:12to settle down, Lucy has started to realize how little they have in common with each other.

02:17She still stays with Matty because she likes the idea of being the first lady but grows

02:20close to Jeremy, Daniel Radcliffe, an Englishman who declares himself the king of his country.

02:26On Lucy's suggestion, Matty establishes a cabinet to help him run the government, but

02:30like the President and First Lady, these cabinet members leave much to be desired.

02:34Dr. Farrah Braun and Tina Fey, a former DARPA scientist, takes charge of all the science-related

02:40issues.

02:41Simon Priolo, Sam Richardson, a history scholar, joins the cabinet to advise the President

02:46about the past.

02:48The incompetency of others hinders their competency.

02:51But even they struggle to embrace the reality of their world and rise above their prejudices.

02:56Matty puts General Scarpaccio Ayo Edibairi, a young boy who finds a military uniform,

03:01in charge of what is left of the US military.

03:04After a census is performed, it is revealed that only 1,132 people have apparently survived

03:09the invasion, with women outnumbering men 2 to 1.

03:13This seems to terrify a puritan inside Lamar, and he tries to distract the women by organizing

03:17a contest to see who among them should be put on a stamp.

03:20In episode 3, Johnny Zhao, Ronnie Cheng, an influential donor originally from China, arrives

03:26and is stranded in Washington, D.C., after Matty outlaws money as the country has effectively

03:30become a barter economy.

03:31A desperate but resourceful Zhao redefines himself as a newsman, trying to unearth scoops

03:36on people in the government.

03:38As the traditional religions begin to falter, Lamar realizes that they will have one less

03:42tool to control the mass if that happens.

03:45This is when he finds Dave, a genuine prophet who correctly foretold the alien attack.

03:50After Dave dies while fighting mutated aliens, various denominations of Christianity turn

03:54him into a saint and survive.

03:56Brad Chadman, the elected president before the invasion, is found alive.

04:01But he has become so deranged because of his fears of the aliens that Matty and the others

04:05conclude that it will be better to send him back to the bunker they have found him in.

04:09In the season 1 finale, the cabinet tries to hold an election with the aim to demonstrate

04:13full transparency to the public.

04:15However, it soon effectively devolves into an episode of The Bachelorette, with Matty

04:20and Jeremy vying for Lucy's attention.

04:22Do the Caribbeans return?

04:24Among all the Caribbeans that invaded Earth, it seems that only Axatrax, the commander

04:28of the operation, is left alive.

04:31Matty and Lucy captured him and decided not to kill him.

04:35As he started to realize who these two were, he felt aghast and humiliated.

04:39Like other characters in the show, Axatrax, at times, feels purposeless in this new world.

04:45He doesn't know how to deal with his failures and rapidly descends into depression.

04:50Axatrax builds a device to establish contact with his home world, Cardi B, and eventually

04:54musters enough courage to send out the message of his failure.

04:57Toward the end of the season, a massive vessel appears, making people fear that the aliens

05:01have returned.

05:03However, it is soon revealed that the vessel is a cruise ship, and its passengers are people,

05:07not aliens.

05:09Does Lucy end up with Matty or Jeremy?

05:12Lucy and Matty's relationship serves as an important component of the narrative.

05:16They got together when the world was ending, discovering a perfect partner in each other.

05:21But as the world begins to settle down, they realize they have very little in common.

05:26Lucy is a beauty queen and is stereotypically interested in environmental causes.

05:30Matty takes an interest in those matters because he seems to have developed genuine

05:33feelings for her.

05:35Meanwhile, Lucy is attracted to Jeremy, who is sophisticated and considerate and seems

05:39to be the antithesis of Matty.

05:42In the season finale, as the attempts at transparency turn into a reality show following the revelation

05:46of Lucy's secret relationship with Jeremy, she chooses neither of them.

05:51All her life, Lucy has done what is expected of her.

05:54But this time, she decides to be selfish.

05:57Lamar, who still seeks chaos to avoid voting, goads the two men by asking them if they will

06:01take the rejection silently.

06:04This prompts Matty and Jeremy to point out to Lucy that she knows everyone on Earth and

06:07will not do better than a king or a president.

06:10Just then, the boat full of people arrives, effectively extending the number of Lucy's

06:14possible suitors.

06:16Who are the people on the cruise?

06:18The people on the cruise ship address Lamar as their senator and play a song about opening

06:22Christmas presents in Florida, so it's safe to assume that they are from Lamar's constituency

06:26in the state.

06:28Their arrival will change the dynamic in Washington, and everyone knows it.

06:32Lamar tries his best to avoid an election, as that will mean he would lose the powers

06:35he now had.

06:37Although Matty is the hero of humanity, his actions since becoming the president haven't

06:41impressed anyone, and the people have grown increasingly dissatisfied.

06:45Farrah and Simon know this, and that's why they want to hold an election.

06:49Meanwhile, Lamar wants to maintain the status quo and tries to distract the people with

06:53the dating show farce.

06:55But with the arrival of people from his constituency, Lamar thinks he no longer needs to do that.

07:00He is confident that the people who have sent him to the Senate in election after election

07:03will continue to support him.

07:06Who created T.O.D.?

07:07T.O.D. 209, or T.O.D., is a cyborg with a machine body and a human brain.

07:13Throughout the season, he has flashbacks to the past when he was a human.

07:17He was a soldier and was married until his wife's death.

07:21In the season finale, T.O.D. finally recalls that Farrah was the one who turned him into

07:25a cyborg and confronts her.

07:27However, the confrontation ends up being much less bloody than one may have presumed.

07:32Todd effectively throws a temper tantrum and flies away.

07:35That doesn't mean that this development will not impact the narrative long-term.

07:39It is possible that T.O.D. might continue looking for the truth, venturing into the

07:42world in search of it.
