00:05begin.

00:06Nanny is a horror-thriller film directed by Nakata Jusu, spoilers for the film's ending

00:10follow.

00:12Prime videos in Nanny is a horror drama that follows the story of Aisha.

00:16She has left behind her life, along with her son, in Senegal and moved to New York.

00:22She wishes to make enough money to afford the flight expenses for her son and be reunited

00:26with him in America.

00:28There are many challenges in her path, but trouble begins when she starts to have visions

00:32and is haunted by mythical creatures that she'd only heard about in stories.

00:36By the end of the film, however, she discovers that the meaning of these visions and hauntings

00:40hints at a huge change in her life, one that is terribly heartbreaking and will forever

00:44change the course of Aisha's life.

00:47Here's what the ending means for her.

00:49Aisha is hired by Amy and Adam to look after their daughter, Rose.

00:54The child quickly takes to Aisha, making her job much easier.

00:58While the job looks good in the beginning, things get troublesome when Amy starts to

01:01take advantage of Aisha.

01:03She doesn't come home on time, forcing Aisha to do the overtime and never pays her for

01:07it.

01:08Aisha gets more frustrated when she is unable to make time to talk with her son, who is

01:12still in Senegal with her cousin.

01:15With all her time spent looking after Rose, Aisha barely has any time for a social life.

01:20But things take a turn for the better when she meets Malik.

01:23They fall in love and Aisha feels more connected to him when she discovers about his family

01:27and past.

01:29But around the same time, Aisha also starts seeing Mami Wada around water bodies.

01:34She is haunted by her visions, which become more real with every iteration.

01:38Aisha also starts seeing Anansi, the trickster spider and soon falls into a spiral of hallucinations

01:44that threaten her life as well as that of those around her.

01:47Does Aisha die?

01:49The sole reason that Aisha left Senegal and came to New York was for her son, Lamine.

01:54She wanted to give him a better future and it was the idea of the American dream that

01:58lured her in.

01:59Back home, the father of her child was married to someone else and refused to take responsibility

02:04for Lamine.

02:05With no one else to support her, Aisha had to make the tough choice of leaving her son

02:09and moving to America.

02:11She didn't mind working late hours, as long as she got paid, because it would allow her

02:15to bring Lamine to her earlier.

02:18Having gone underpaid all this time, Aisha finally takes a stand and demands what she

02:21is owed.

02:23When she receives the money, the first thing she does is pay for her son's flight, as well

02:27as her cousin's.

02:29She impatiently waits for them at the airport, but when they are nowhere to be seen she becomes

02:33worried.

02:34She calls her cousin and finds her at the airport, but without her son.

02:38She questions where Lamine is, which is when she discovers that her son had died a while

02:42ago.

02:43The news completely breaks Aisha.

02:46She is horrified to discover that her son was already dead when she was still fighting

02:50for her overtime pay.

02:52All that she had been fighting for all this time becomes meaningless to her and she decides

02:55to end her life.

02:57She jumps into the river and is almost drowned.

03:00But then, she sees her son in the water and tries to reach out to him.

03:04At the same time, she sees mommy Wadah again, who unlike their previous encounter doesn't

03:09try to drown her.

03:10Instead, she saves Aisha by helping her get to the surface, where Malik rescues her.

03:16While the paramedics treat her, it is revealed that Aisha is pregnant.

03:19Together, they go back home, and we find Aisha starting her new life with Malik and their

03:24child.

03:25The final scene confirms what Malik's grandmother had told Aisha a while ago.

03:30She'd been plagued by the visions of the mythical creature and couldn't understand what mommy

03:33Wadah wanted.

03:35Malik's grandmother tells Aisha to reconsider mommy Wadah's intentions, saying that rather

03:39than focusing on what she wants, Aisha should focus on what the creature wants for her.

03:44It is in the end when she finds out about Lamine that things fall into place.

03:49Mommy Wadah had started showing up around the same time that Lamine died.

03:53Aisha wasn't aware of it, but her son had died in the water, so it makes sense why a

03:57mythical sea creature would show up in her visions.

04:00Mommy Wadah's sudden appearance wasn't to haunt Aisha.

04:04It was to prepare her for impending grief.

04:07The creature wanted Aisha to uncover the truth.

04:10She didn't want Aisha to die, which is why she helps her get out of the water in the

04:13end.

04:14It is here that Aisha also understands that mommy Wadah is not just about destruction.

04:19She also signals change and new beginnings.

04:23After losing Lamine, Aisha feels like the entire purpose of her life has been taken

04:26away from her.

04:28The news of her pregnancy fuels new life in her, and while she can never replace Lamine,

04:32she does find a new purpose in her life.

04:35This is not to say that life is only going to get easier for her now.

04:39There are still many struggles she needs to brave, but this time, she has a family

04:42to help her through them.

04:44She is not alone in her grief, as well as her happiness, anymore.

04:48How did Lamine die?

04:51Aisha has quite a few scary visions and terrible hallucinations throughout the film but none

04:55is as terrifying and horrific as the loss of her son.

04:59What makes things worse is that she goes about her life, not realizing that her son died

05:03a while ago.

05:04It is at least a few weeks, if not months later, that she finds out about his death,

05:08and only when she'd paid for his flight ticket that was meant to reunite them.

05:12Aisha had always found it difficult to talk to her son because she would either be busy

05:16at her job or the connection would be bad.

05:19The last she saw of him was in a video that was made before he went to the beach with

05:22Aisha's cousin.

05:24Soon after this, she had a few missed calls from her cousin.

05:28When she called back, no one picked up.

05:31It was at this moment that Aisha first saw Mami Wada in the water.

05:35Later, it is revealed that the visit to the beach was the last thing Lamine ever did.

05:39He went into the water and the current was too strong.

05:43The boy drowned and no one could save him.

05:45It was a terrible thing to have happened and Aisha's cousin must have tried to tell her.

05:50When Aisha didn't pick up, the cousin lost her will to tell Aisha that her son was dead.

05:55As time passed, it became even more difficult to reveal the truth.

05:59We find the cousin struggling with it the next time she and Aisha finally get to talk

06:03to each other.

06:05The sadness in her voice hints that something bad has happened.

06:08But Aisha thinks that it has something to do with her aunt's health.

06:12The cousin doesn't reveal the truth to Aisha even when she keeps sending money, finally

06:16sending enough to book a flight for Lamine.

06:19It also looks like she had never intended to meet Aisha at the airport.

06:23Aisha and Malik waited for them at the arrival but her cousin sneaked out of some other gate.

06:28It looked like she was ready to leave until Aisha called her and realized that the phone

06:31was ringing nearby.

06:33With no choice left, the cousin reveals that Lamine had died that day at the beach.

06:38Lamine's death also explains the presence of Anansi in Aisha's vision.

06:43In one scene, Rose tells Aisha that it is Lamine who has taken Anansi's form and is

06:47playing tricks on his mother because he is jealous.

06:50It could be that his spirit was trying to reach out to his mother and get her attention

06:54while she was busy taking care of Rose.

06:56This is also why he made her hallucinate so badly that she almost stabbed Rose.

07:01The boy just wanted his mother to know what had happened to him.
