00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel, in this video, I will explain the ending Peter Pan and Wendy,

00:05so, let's begin.

00:07Disney's new live-action Peter Pan and Wendy ends a little differently than the original

00:10play, book, and 1953 animated film.

00:14In J.M. Barrie's original story, which was first a play and then a novel, Wendy decides

00:18to take the Lost Boys back home with her to London, England.

00:22Peter flies ahead of the group to bar the window, but changes his mind when he sees

00:25Mrs. Darling crying.

00:27The Darlings agree to adopt the Lost Boys and offer to adopt Peter, but he refuses.

00:33He does promise to return for Wendy every spring.

00:36An epilogue sees Peter returning for Wendy's daughter, Jane, and then Jane's daughter,

00:40and so on.

00:41Disney's live-action Peter Pan and Wendy remake doesn't stray too far from the original

00:45book and play.

00:47The Lost Boys stay in London with Wendy, John, and Michael, and it's implied that the Darlings

00:51will adopt them.

00:53Peter and Wendy talk on the roof and Peter reveals he used to live in the same house.

00:57Wendy says he could stay, but he's not ready to grow up, so he leaves with Tinkerbell.

01:02At the end of the film, he arrives back in Neverland and smiles down at Captain Hook,

01:06who emerges from the water with Smee and smiles back at Peter.

01:10Why did Peter agree to bring all the Lost Boys back to England?

01:14Peter agrees to bring the Lost Boys, and girls, to England with Wendy, John, and Michael because

01:19he realizes it would be a better life for them.

01:22He also doesn't want to make the same mistakes with them that he made with James, aka Captain

01:26Hook.

01:27He got angry with James for missing his mother, and this divided the two and ended their friendship,

01:32plus launched James into a difficult life as a pirate.

01:35When Wendy brings up her own mother in front of the Lost Boys, they start to say they miss

01:39their own mothers, reminding Peter of James.

01:42Not wanting to completely lose more friends and starting to understand it's okay for the

01:46Lost Boys to miss their families, Peter decides to take them back to England.

01:51Peter also trusts Wendy, having been keeping watch over her for a long time and knows that

01:54she will make sure the Lost Boys are safe.

01:57He can always come back and check on them and bring them back to Neverland if they want

02:01to go.

02:02Why did Peter Pan go back to Neverland?

02:05Though Peter accepts that his friends want parents and want to eventually grow up, he

02:08isn't ready for that fate.

02:10Unlike Wendy and the Lost Boys, Peter indicates he had a more traumatic childhood with his

02:14mother.

02:16She yelled at him, and he ran away, an apparent departure from the original story which states

02:20Peter ran away when he was a day old because he heard his parents talking about him growing

02:24up.

02:26In Peter Pan and Wendy, Peter kept returning to the house because it was once his home.

02:30The Peter Pan and Wendy ending implies that Peter might decide to grow up one day, but

02:34he is not yet ready to go back to where he came from or have a new mother.

02:38He would rather return to Captain Hook, who is his family now.

02:42Hook is still Peter's oldest friend, even if the two have been at odds for years.

02:46The friendship permanently shaped the two of them.

02:49Peter's return to Neverland is not only a return to the home he has known for most of

02:53his life, but a return to his past best friend.

02:56Are Peter Pan and Captain Hook friends again?

02:59At the end of Peter Pan and Wendy, Peter and Captain Hook aren't fully back to being friends

03:03again, but they have at least come to an understanding.

03:07Peter apologizes to Hook for how he treated him, and Hook indicates he regrets his actions.

03:12They both realize they are still important to each other and would rather be alive to

03:15fight each other if they keep fighting at all, then one of them be dead.

03:19Peter even tries to save Hook's life and is happy to see he survives.

03:24Hook says he has no happy thoughts, but it's clear Peter comes close to making him happy.

03:28Peter and Hook could still be friends later on down the road, after spending more time

03:32together and working through their resentment.

03:34It would be hard to be friends with someone you've been trying to kill for years, possibly

03:38decades.

03:39Plus, Hook is a grown-up and Peter is still a child.

03:43Could they have an infinite amount of time on Neverland to remember how to be best friends

03:46again?

03:47This could be explored in a potential Peter Pan and Wendy sequel.

03:51How Peter Pan and Wendy Changes the Original Disney Movie Ending

03:55In Disney's animated Peter Pan, Wendy and her brothers go home.

03:59However, the Lost Boys don't go with them because they aren't ready to grow up, yet.

04:04Peter and the Lost Boys return to Neverland on the pirate ship as Wendy and her parents

04:08watch through the window.

04:10It's a relatively big departure from Barry's original story.

04:14Peter Pan and Wendy more closely follows the original, while paying homage to the animated

04:18version by having Peter say he's not ready to grow up.

04:21The Lost Boys being adopted by the Darlings gives them a satisfying happy ending, but

04:25might have seemed odd in the 1953 Peter Pan when they weren't very fleshed-out characters.

04:30Peter Pan also doesn't show Peter and the Lost Boys arriving back in Neverland.

04:35Because Peter Pan and Wendy added a backstory about Peter and Captain Hook being friends,

04:39it was necessary to show the two seeing each other in Neverland again, giving a resolution

04:43to their story.

04:45Another major difference between the two endings is in the Darling parents.

04:49J.M. Barrie implies in Peter and Wendy that Mrs. Darling has adventured with Peter before,

04:54and the 1953 animated Peter Pan has Mr. Darling say he recognizes the flying pirate ship.

05:00Peter Pan and Wendy doesn't have either parent make comments suggesting a past with Peter

05:04Pan, although adds Peter explaining his own past to Wendy.
