00:00She's breathing heavily and her teeth are aching.
00:05That's what Rio, a 32-year-old and an accounting supervisor, is experiencing.
00:11How come during the pandemic, Rio gained 91 kilos?
00:17In 2022, I felt pain in my feet when I was walking.
00:26Because my body is heavy, I can't walk anymore.
00:30When she was young, Rio was a chubby kid.
00:33My nickname is Taba.
00:34In terms of physical appearance, my body is really different compared to my classmates back then.
00:40But during the pandemic, her favorite food was fast food.
00:46I like fast food because it's very convenient.
00:50Especially now that there are a lot of food deliveries that are accessible.
00:53I'm also too lazy to prepare my own food.
00:59Even after the pandemic, Rio still doesn't go out.
01:05She also lost her confidence.
01:07When I gained weight, I noticed that I can't walk anymore.
01:12I can't walk for a few minutes without breathing.
01:16That's why my feet are aching.
01:19Because of the continuous weight gain, Rio is now worried about her health.
01:25I visited OB-GYN and was diagnosed with PCOS.
01:30I have a lot of hormonal acne.
01:32I lost a lot of weight.
01:33I also have a lot of hair loss.
01:37This is when Rio found out that she has polycystic ovary syndrome.
01:41PCOS is polycystic ovary syndrome.
01:46It's a heterogeneous disorder of a woman of reproductive age.
01:52It can be due to genetics, neurologic, or metabolic.
01:59Metabolic syndrome is when patients have hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.
02:06According to the expert, those with PCOS are insulin resistant.
02:10That's why they have a higher chance of gaining weight.
02:14Insulin resistance is when your body struggles to control your sugar levels.
02:19It could also cause obesity, androgen excess, and an ovulation.
02:28Rio also has a higher chance of developing a more serious illness, such as diabetes.
02:34One of the risk factors is genetics.
02:37It could also be BMI, high BMI, or environmental.
02:41Obesity is one of the reasons.
02:43But don't get me wrong, not all PCOS patients are on the heavy side.
02:49This is where the doctor told her to control her sugar intake and to lose weight.
02:56Because she was afraid of her health, she decided to lose weight.
03:02When I woke up, I was lying on my bed, and I felt pain in my legs.
03:07I've never experienced that before.
03:10Rio started walking.
03:13That's when my legs started hurting.
03:16I started walking 10,000 steps a day.
03:20I also enrolled in a gym to work out.
03:25And then I started running this year.
03:31And two years later...
03:34From 91 kilos, I'm down to 60 kilos.
03:38And I feel good about myself right now.
03:43I'm able to do physical activities that I couldn't do before.
03:47My target weight is 50 kilos.
03:54She also avoided fast food and started researching alternative foods.
03:59I gradually stopped eating rice.
04:02And I started doing low-carb.
04:05Aside from the physical changes in her body,
04:08what makes Rio thankful is the positive impact it has on her health.
04:13For me, I remind myself every day what my goal is,
04:17why I started my weight loss journey.
04:22So from there, I always think about the outcome.
04:27She also regained her confidence in herself.
04:302XL, I am down to medium size now.
04:34Of course, when you're able to wear the clothes that you like,
04:39you'll have the confidence to face people.
04:43Unlike before, when you're a bit shy because the clothes might not suit you.
04:49To inspire others like her,
04:51who was also very weak because of her weight,
04:54she shared her fitness journey on social media.
04:58I tried everything, but progress was so slow.
05:01I shared my weight loss journey on social media
05:04because I want to inspire others on my journey.
05:08I want to share to them that it's possible to lose weight even if you have PCOS.
05:15For Rio, the secret of her fitness journey is the right care for herself.
05:20The most important factor of my weight loss journey is really surrendering to God.
05:26I am a believer of the principle that whatever I eat or drink, I do it
05:31to glorify Him.
05:32So, that's my motivation then.
05:36According to the expert, it's better to consult a healthy diet.
05:41Once you are diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome,
05:45it is a lifetime.
05:47But what we can control is the complications that come with the disorder.
05:53We go and maintain a healthy lifestyle,
05:58meaning we can control what we eat,
06:02like diet, modification, physical activities.
06:06I consulted my doctor this year,
06:09but he told me that a big factor of my change
06:14and regular menstruation
06:17is my lifestyle change and weight loss.
06:21Remember, in taking care of our body,
06:24our health is at risk.
06:26That's why it's never too late to be healthy.
06:29Let's start our fitness journey.
