00:00he's the guy that does all the roughing up for the reptiles. here's a look at the
00:04Mattel Matthew universe origins reptile acts mercenary brutes of the snake men
00:22based on the original design by Axel Jimenez this deep cuts character was
00:27originally featured in the vintage snake man series now he appears as the
00:30origins figure fans have been hoping for reptile axes spite lizard like head and
00:35serpents tail distinguish him I've a sneaking suspicion we're gonna be
00:40surrounded by snakes soon first though let's grab the tape measure and see just
00:44how tall reptile X stands now again this is a fan requested figure that was
00:48actually based originally on Axel Jimenez the first concept design of him
00:52the figure is gonna still be using a lot of similar massive universe origins body
00:56parts in fact actually you'll be able to spot some of those parts right now
00:59the figure is gonna stand about the same size as normal origins figures and I'll
01:03be bringing some in in second with his mohawk intact the figure is gonna be
01:07about five and three-quarters of an inch in the height or about fourteen and a
01:10half centimeters tall oh you got spat on too how many people just got spat on a
01:14moment ago that's a lot of spit let's bring in some other snake men for
01:20comparison's sake first seeing as he is on the minicomic at all the minicomic I
01:24haven't yet showed you guys here's what the figure looks like with snake armor
01:27Skeletor or my least favorite Skeletor is FYI bring in some of the snake men as
01:33well here's what the figure looks like with snake face also here's what he
01:36looks like with a Raptor Raptor is always one that always falls in fact he
01:39just probably even heard he just took a tumble just a few seconds ago let's
01:43bring in also as well tongue lash or Cobra Khan Cobra Khan's always a good
01:47one let's bring in squeeze another one that has a lot of in his name you'll be
01:53seeing also as well there's no King Hiss still have King Hiss why I haven't yet
01:57bothered to pick up King Hiss there's also as well the snake armor I guess the
02:01snake trooper horde trooper whatever he was called yeah a lot of snake men a
02:06reptile X has some good company with them oh and that minicomic right over
02:10here this one actually is called Leviathan's war and feature on the
02:13front is Lord Grasp for those that may not know who Lord Grasp is we will be
02:17looking at him an upcoming review also snake armor Skeletor and on the adjacent
02:22corner I've also got reptile X so all the three characters are featured very
02:25much on the front Leviathan does remind me recently I watched Leviathan starring
02:29Peter Weller a very underrated horror sci-fi I was also smart that I kind of
02:33did back-to-back deep star six and I folded also with Leviathan I feel like
02:37if I had flipped it around the other way I would have watched only the more
02:40superior sci-fi horror Leviathan and then watched I feel yeah on the inferior
02:47deep star six I know some like deep star six deep star six is a great movie
02:50unfortunately though it has a very laughable special effects especially
02:54done on the creature Leviathan is good like if you were to put in top tier
02:58Leviathan deep star six you can fight me if you want to don't fight me that's
03:03just let's agree to disagree if you disagree with what I just finished
03:06saying about Leviathan anyways flip it around on the back speaking of Lord
03:09Grasp the venomous viper with a crushing claw happens to be right over here we've
03:15also got terror reptile axe and viper viper is actually the one that has more
03:21kind of unique parts given to him some of these basically are reused I mean a
03:24lot of times origins figures for the most part are reused figures anyways but
03:27there's a lot of reusing going on with all this whole wave of figures flipping
03:32through the comic the artwork is actually quite good Lord Grasp featured
03:35in the majority really of this story and also as well there's snake armor
03:40Skeletor I just I don't like Snickers armor Skeletor and there's also reptile
03:44axe to note also as well like reptile axe has this weapon that looks to be a
03:48crossbow and yet the character doesn't come included with it I don't know why
03:51they chose not to include it you can see Skeletor does though have the power
03:55sword let's move out to the side figure does use a lot of things a lot of things
04:01already from the body you'll recognize it but you'll may also recognize some of
04:04the things that figure also comes included with like for example a snake
04:07this snake shield happens to be the same one that we did get from before I can't
04:11remember for the life of me which figure actually had this was it snake face maybe
04:14it was snake face same molding of shield though different coloring of plastic
04:18green red you got your Christmas colors Christmas snake colors they clip on the
04:23exact same way though and they don't clip the easiest way in fact if you try
04:26to put it on the figures arms I always find like if you put it too far down the
04:30it's just loosey-goosey floppy messy you kind of want to have to bring the want
04:34to bring the shield just up a little bit more and it seems to hold a little bit
04:37better see that okay figure also comes included with two other things that the
04:41character other figures have come included with like for example the sword
04:45which I believe is the sword that we also got with the triclops it's just
04:49molded a little bit different in green he also gets as well an axe that comes
04:53included or had come included with Ram man Ram man had two axes I believe
04:57connected together so he had sort of an axe staff what was that all about you
05:01only get a one half of this though and it's molded in the same green plastic
05:04overlook the fact obviously there's a hole on the bottom you can't do really
05:08anything with the hole can you put it on the end of the sword no no it would be
05:12funny actually if they made this just a little a little connecting peg on the
05:14end but I mean like how ridiculous would that have been sort on one side axe on
05:18the other I mean what how easy would this be for him to wield the answer is
05:22very difficult by the way there is no storage space on the back the figures
05:26body so if you thought hey I could use extra storage to maybe hold the axe hold
05:31the sword you can't do that doesn't have that but at least he does have two
05:35gripping hands he doesn't have like this the regular grabbing hand doesn't have
05:39that he has at least two gripping hands let's just take the shield we'll put it
05:42off to the side of course if you wanted to of course you can take the axe put it
05:46in his hand if you want to you know I want to show you guys at least
05:49everything here of course you can take the sword put the sword in his hand yeah
05:53at least he can double wheel then I guess too you could also take the shield
05:56and attach it on but I think that's just kind of overkill I want a little bit of
06:00assembly that was required for reptile axe also involved taking his tail and
06:04the tail was a separate piece there's a hole well there's a hole right I had to
06:07be right here like it couldn't have been a peg and this couldn't have been the
06:10hole yeah it has to be a hole right out of the gutter anyways you take the tail
06:16and you just attach it onto the back of the figures body you would have to assume
06:19as well that he's got a hole in his loincloth because like how would he get
06:22his pants on he'd have to would he just like you'd have to take the pants are we
06:26we overly thinking this I guess if it's a loincloth it would just be draping
06:30over his leg but like how does he put this on if this long tail is in the way
06:33don't answer that down below whatever you do got some red down below there of
06:38course the main coloring of this I know I guess you would call it like a peach
06:41yellow he has it through the majority of his body although it isn't quite the
06:45same colors you can see in his torso his torso is ever more absent of that
06:50yellowish color I suppose it's supposed to be like that and the orange is really
06:53only in his arms and his lower legs speaking of his lower legs the figure
06:58does have what seems to be the lower legs a buzz off right down to his
07:01monster feet so he's using that of course that same body and origins body
07:06I mean I've diamond doesn't we always get these origins bodies they haven't
07:08really retooled anything here at all for Reptilax simply just have added a now
07:12new armor piece over top of his body which does attach on the back you
07:17basically would just detach that and he was remove it all together it actually
07:20kind of looks like something you would see from Flash Gordon speaking also of
07:24sci-fi I can't help but think that Reptilax his face looks a little bit
07:27more like a Gorn if he only had the time doctor if he only had the time one
07:34of my favorite classic Star Trek Star Trek episodes in which of course Captain
07:38Kirk has to fight the Gorn on a planet and Captain Kirk proceeds to then like
07:41breaks up diamonds all the valuable diamonds in the world and I what I
07:46wouldn't do to trade it in for a phaser I know that's not verbatim the phrase
07:48but Captain Kirk basically is grounding up a coal and making diamonds of course
07:53he's gonna make himself a bazooka and blast away the Gorn and the Gorn just
07:56like looks like the Gorn everybody his mouth doesn't open and close but what
08:03at least does have is the little the little tongue I was gonna say a tail
08:06little tongue that sticks out like this it paints pretty good though on his
08:09teeth top and bottom I like that also the colors of the eyes that they've
08:12given him as well sculpting of course on the back he's got these very large
08:16spikes the spikes themselves are just as hard of a plastic as the rest of his
08:20face I like the look of the face it just doesn't look like a character that would
08:24belong in the mass universe origins line I mean the actual body as a whole
08:28from the design that we get here like a fan favorite design I think it's nice
08:32that they actually did release a version of Reptilax and if anything you probably
08:36could get this guy if you want to have an army building I can't imagine this
08:38guy would be overly expensive get like several of these these guys could kind
08:42of be like the little army soldiers for the you know for the snake men but the
08:46articulation on this guy it's gonna be essentially the same and of course if
08:48you wanted to customize this character I mean it I mean I never really show you
08:52guys obviously in these reviews I was end up proceeding to joke about the
08:56little paper insert but just to show you that you obviously could pop the arms
08:59off you can you know you can pop off the hands you can pop off the head you could
09:03mix and match the parts if you wanted to again the bodies the top of the horse
09:07the lower half of his body just to divorce one from the other you could
09:10just mix and match the parts if you want to customize your characters snap this
09:13back in place though for the articulation though on Reptilax
09:16starting first with his head sculpt it is on a full ball joint if he has the
09:22time doctor if he only has the time I'm I know I'm eating up some of your time
09:25I'm so sorry for that head goes up the head goes down the head also rocks back
09:28and forth as well a straight swivel only in the waist the arms you rotate all the
09:32way around you can hinge them also out as well swivel in the forearm bend in
09:36the elbow hands rotate all the way around that sounds almost like a kid's
09:39rhyme legs split out one thing I did want to mention though is that the lower
09:44knees for mine on Reptilax is a little on the looser side I don't know if
09:47that's just mold degradation over time because we you know keep continuing to
09:51use the same mold so again and again a little loose a little loosey-goosey not
09:55as loosey-goosey though is the top the swivel of the the boots of course the
09:59ankle pivots are nice and tight there as well and you can also rock them back and
10:02forth too there is some tail articulation so if he's happy I guess
10:05you could have the tail up if he's sad he's gonna be hissing at you speaking
10:09from example you can also bring the tail down the tail also does serve as well to
10:12give a little bit of a tripod although you want to just make sure it's kind of
10:16turned a little bit out of the way all in all though a nice-looking figure you
10:20know I was kind of on the fence as to whether I wanted to really pick up
10:22Reptilax I don't have as much emotional attachment necessarily to him as I would
10:26with some of the origins the other origins figures I've picked up in the
10:29past but again like if you are collecting the snake men it's like one
10:32of those weird curses snake men if you've always really noticed that snake
10:36men always seems to be near the end of a mass universe or mass universe line the
10:40vintage line when they got the snake man count coming in that that was kind of
10:43like when the line was dying off 2000x was also the same thing I think also to
10:47the snake man correct me if I'm wrong was also part of the classics line near
10:50the end of its line so again like it always seems to be the case like the
10:54snake man always seems to seal the doom of whatever current masters line they
10:59they have right now and I hope that's not the case because again I love of the
11:02stuff that Mattel really does do when it comes to mass universe the origin stuff
11:06is more my bread and butter maybe not Reptilax to some extent but you know
11:09again if you are collecting the other you know other snake men of Reptilax
11:13even though he is a sum of other people's parts he's still a nice-looking
11:16figure for your collection right now there's some random viewer thinking
11:20this Star Trek episode you were speaking of is interesting to me can you tell me
11:24more it's actually from the classic Star Trek episode from 1967 called arena
11:28captain Kirk and I think it's an unnamed Gorn do we ever really know the name of
11:32the Gorn not that it really matters they're basically thrown on a planet by
11:34an alien species and then are told they have to defeat one another think of it
11:37basically as a planet wide Thunderdome Captain Kirk is very meticulously trying
11:42to make a weapon from scratch meanwhile I think the Gorn just grabs himself a
11:45sharp like rock he's gonna use that to impale the captain it's a deep cut on
11:49the captain speaking though of deep cuts how's that for a segue the design though
11:54of Reptilax is actually based on a mini vintage mini comic called king of the
11:59snake men when which we basically see Reptilax kind of in the background they
12:03actually took that as the source material for why this character existed
12:06in the first place so it's a deep cut from the standpoint of a mini comic
12:09although I don't think Reptilax ever really got a vintage figure it's
12:13certainly good though for fans of the original vintage comics because if you
12:16had those original mini comics you probably thought them at some point hey
12:19that guy that doesn't really quite look like a snake man but he kind of looks
12:22instead like a Gorn from Star Trek I you got the reference as well I would love
12:26if they could ever really release a figure of him and well wouldn't you know
12:29it years later Mattel finally does give us one and even though it is really as
12:33some of many other people's parts we get of course the lower half of buzz off we
12:37get weapons from triclops Ramaman and of course notably we get the shield from
12:42another snake man release the head sculpt is good the coloring is good and
12:45while maybe not one that I would have so rushed quickly to a store to grab
12:49admittingly I am glad to have now got my hands on Reptilax not only from this
12:54from the standpoint that he appeared in the mini comics but at least again if
12:57you want to build the ranks of the snake man Reptilax is not a bad addition at
