Debating The Best Roster In Football

00:00That's Nick, right? First things first is the lines of the second best roster in football.
00:06John, the team he had with the best roster in football will be opposite them on Saturday,
00:11the Kansas city chiefs. And we've been having that discussion off air. We've brought it
00:14to the air. I agree. Kansas city roster for roster is better. They had a top two defense.
00:22They have an alien at quarterback. They're better on special teams. Three of the top
00:26players in the sport, according to the players themselves. While I think the lions are right
00:31there at number two, I know that will be unpopular to say they're not number one.
00:35I would rather have Kansas city's roster. I don't think it's on here in this city. No,
00:39I know because I think people are, are, are fairly realistic, even though yes,
00:43the lions did beat them at the beginning of the season last year. And we wanted to see that
00:48rematch in the super bowl. I think every, I think people believe that this could be a super bowl
00:52championship team. Doesn't mean that it's, it's always the best roster in football that wins the
00:57super bowl. True. So I think people are fairly realistic and it, and it sometimes in my opinion,
01:02goes to how much weight do you put on the quarterback, simply Patrick Mahomes.
01:07And if you're going to wait, that is, Hey, that's the reason I get it. And you should,
01:10I'm not going to argue that. Yeah. But I also look at, and if it's just for this year,
01:15maybe that's one thing. But if you're looking down the road, I think the lions are built
01:20to have a better run future years because Chris Jones, how many more years does he have at that
01:28level? How many more years does Travis Kelsey have at that level? You look at the lions roster
01:35and you could start looking at all of the guys that are young, that are just entering
01:39that second contract or just entering the possibility of a second contract that you want
01:44to resign. I think the lions are looking pretty darn good, but I get it. Why Nick Wright would
01:50have them at two in Kansas city at one. I know why you would have them, you know,
01:53Kansas city at one. I'm just talking about the possibility of looking at it with the future in
02:00mind. And then I also would look at, you know, some of the other teams that are the threats to
02:06the lions, right? We've talked about those and, and I'm not going to sit there and talk about
02:10the Packers or the bears or any, but this, what do you, when you look at the Eagles roster,
02:16yeah, I think they are a team. And I didn't, I don't remember where Nick Wright had them ranked.
02:22I think it was San Francisco was three. He had the bears in his top five. He's doing the weird
02:27bears thing, whatever. There's some weird stuff going on with this whole bears love around hard
02:33knocks and Caleb Williams, number one pick. I know we've talked about it. I don't see it the
02:37way other people see it. But anyway, when you talk about the Eagles, Jalen hurts at quarterback
02:41Saquon Barkley in the backfield, AJ Brown, Devante Smith, Paris Campbell, some, some talented
02:48receivers, top five, O-line top five, top probably top three O O-line and Dallas got her to tight
02:54end. Like I'm not going to put him in, you know, with Sam Laporta, but I think he's he's quality
02:58top 12 position. Maybe something like that. Defensively, you start to get into some of
03:02the argument regarding yes. Age is a factor and Brandon Graham. All right. He's at the end of his
03:09career, but you have two defensive tackles and Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter. We talked a lot
03:14about Jalen Carter the last couple of years and you know, possibly being a lion didn't work out
03:19that way, but they're a team that I think they don't compare to the lions. I wouldn't swap rosters
03:29with them, but I think they're one of those teams. When you start to think about the threats to the
03:34lions in the AFC, obviously it's the chiefs in the NFC. I think it's the Eagles. When you start
03:42talking about depth and talent and the roster along with the Niners depth and talent and roster,
03:49but there's always that caveat of this is not just a one-off for the lions because they are so young
03:56and all of their studs, all of their star players are young. TicketTexture says this whole conversation
04:03is traitorous. Why are we doing a hypothetical about what we can't have and don't want? Well,
04:08blame John Jansen. He's the one being traitorous. He brought this up. Traitorous. You're the one.
04:12I actually think you brought this up so that I would say Kansas City has a better roster than
04:16the lions. So people would judge me even though it's the right tape. Can I ask a quick question?
04:19So you're both have already agreed that the Eagles have a better roster than the lion or the
04:24lions have a better roster than the Eagles? Yeah. I disagree. Okay. Make your point. Because it isn't.
04:35O-line push, quarterback push, skill positions, the Eagles. Secondary, the Eagles. Defense,
04:43the Eagles. Wait, wait, wait. Secondary, the Eagles. Darius Slay, Evante Maddox,
04:49they drafted two corners as well. And, um, but CJ Carter Johnson can't stay healthy. He's not
04:57even healthy now. Okay. I would, I would still say, I, this is one where we let it play out
05:06and see what it actually is for the lions. There's a lot of question marks. And I get right now,
05:12why you're saying they have a more proven track record for some of their players.
05:15But if you're going to sit there and talk about their draft picks versus the lions draft picks,
05:21I'd take the lions draft picks right now. I mean, look, there's no right answer here. I mean,
05:26Paul said it like it was fact. That's what made it funny there. Uh, I, I think the thing with the
05:30Eagles, Jalen Carter's going to determine a lot of what happens with them in the next couple of
05:35years. If he ends up being the player that people thought he's going to be, they're going to be
05:40a real problem for the lions. They are, they're getting some love on the ticket. Texas one says,
05:45I think the Eagles actually have the shot to be the best roster in all of football.
05:48Uh, that's one of the ticket texts that we just got in. Another one says guys,
05:52their biggest issue is their coaching staff. And in John's scenario, where we're trading
05:56out coaching staffs, if you just plop the Eagles roster into a better coaching situation,
06:01that's the argument on the ticket text as well. Two, four, eight, five, three, nine, 97, 97.
06:05Honestly, if we take the quarterback out of the equation, there's not a roster in the league.
06:09I'd rather have over the lions. Problem is we can't take the quarterback off the roster.
06:14Problem is my homes is Michael Jordan and you have to take him no matter who the rest of the
06:17roster is. So yes, Kansas city would be the one roster that they would trade with the lions.
06:24I mean, it's hard to fault that it is hard to fault that. I mean, that's why I wanted to have
06:28the discussion because I wanted to hear from people. Where do you believe the lions are?
