00:00Baldy, always good to check in with you. Good morning.
00:03Hey, good morning, guys. How are you?
00:05We're doing great. Lions off of a win.
00:08Of course, there's some question now going into Monday night.
00:10Frank Ragnall will not play. Let's go to the trenches.
00:13How big a deal is that?
00:16Well, it's a big deal. I mean, it's a Pro Bowl center.
00:19And I thought Frank was excellent last week.
00:21And so, you know, you start getting into the depth.
00:25I mean, he's the leader up there. He's a veteran.
00:27Everything kind of starts with him.
00:29And so, I don't know if they put Glasgow in its center right now
00:33and how they kind of adjust. I'm not really sure.
00:36John, you might know, but I think it's a big deal.
00:39They played without Frank before. He's had injuries last year.
00:42They overcame him. So, that's what they got to do now,
00:45just like every other team.
00:47Yeah, we kind of saw it, not with Frank being down in the NFC championship game,
00:52but, you know, they were down a guard.
00:55And they put Awosike in there
00:57and really didn't notice that much of a drop-off.
01:00But anytime you lose a Pro Bowl center, it's going to be a big deal.
01:04The question I have for you, Boldy, is on the other side of the ball.
01:07Defensively, what is different about this defense?
01:11Why are they better than they were last year?
01:16Well, I think some of it, John.
01:18Honestly, I mean, you played Bownicks week one.
01:21You played a New England team week two.
01:24I think, and, I'm sorry, the Tampa team,
01:29that, you know, they struggled with a little bit.
01:32And then, I'm getting things all confused here.
01:35I was thinking about Seattle.
01:37That's all right.
01:38I think, you know, Arizona last week, they couldn't run the ball at all.
01:42And they've been running the ball really good.
01:44And that was really impressive.
01:46You know, some of it is Davenport's, you know, so big.
01:48I know he's banged up, but, you know, he's just a big, huge guy.
01:52And, you know, Hutch plays hard and branches in his second year.
01:55So, you just look at some of the guys they have right there, right now.
01:59And, you know, it's just a tough group to move inside right now.
02:04So, one takeaway I had last week,
02:08I know offensively they're struggling a little bit to put points up
02:12the way they were a year ago.
02:13But I think the run defense is much better with D.J. Reeder,
02:17you know, along with McNeil.
02:19I mean, those are just guys that are hard to move inside right now.
02:23They've got so much more size up front.
02:25Let's talk Seattle a little bit here.
02:26Insider calls are brought to you by Hellman's Real Mayonnaise.
02:29You can purchase Hellman's at your local Walmart, Kroger grocery store.
02:32Add extra deliciousness and creamy flavor to your game day dishes this football season.
02:37Seattle at 3-0.
02:38What kind of team is Detroit seeing this week?
02:41Well, defensively, they've been really good.
02:43Now, like I was saying before, I mean, Bo Nix and, you know,
02:47the guys they face that have been, you know, front-line players.
02:50But Mike McDonald's got those guys playing hard.
02:53They don't make the same mistake twice, it doesn't seem.
02:56The secondary is elite right now with Wolin and, you know,
03:01Davenport and Julian Love.
03:03I mean, they're a good group right now.
03:05So, I think that they're playing well.
03:10The ball isn't going over their head like it was a year ago.
03:13You look at this rookie, Byron Murphy, to go with Big Cat Williams inside.
03:17They're much better, I think, defensively, at least fundamentally.
03:21Right now they have two totally different linebackers in Baker and Dodson.
03:25They're playing well.
03:26And the one guy that keeps showing up is that boy, Amafe,
03:29who's a really good pass rusher right now.
03:33And I just think Geno Smith, you know, they've been getting big plays.
03:36They got another one from DK Metcalf last week.
03:40I don't think their offensive line is great by any stretch.
03:44But I think Geno is good in the pocket.
03:47He's got three really good targets to throw to.
03:50And they've won games without their best running back,
03:54Kenneth Walker, the last couple weeks.
03:56But Charbonnet has been just fine.
03:58So, they kind of cobble it together right now with some of the injuries
04:01they've had on offense.
04:03But Geno's been really good and really productive at the quarterback position.
04:07And we know Seattle's given Detroit's fits in recent years.
04:10Brian Baldinger, we appreciate some of your time.
04:12Thanks, Brian.
