00:00Steamy Stafford. Lots of the engines on the island of Sodor are steam engines.
00:14They run on coal and water.
00:17They collect their coal from the coal hopper.
00:25And they get water from the water towers.
00:30But Stafford is an electric engine.
00:35He doesn't need coal and water.
00:38He needs to keep his battery charged instead.
00:43One day, Stafford was on his way to pick up some flatbeds of timber,
00:49when Thomas went past him.
00:52Hello, Thomas! Hello, Stafford!
00:58A group of children were standing on the bridge at Wellsworth Station.
01:03They watched as Thomas went past.
01:06Here comes Thomas! Hello, Thomas!
01:13And look, here comes Stafford! Hello, Stafford!
01:17Hello, everybody!
01:20The children all watched and listened, but they were puzzled.
01:28Thomas makes a puffy noise, but Stafford hardly makes any noise at all.
01:33How strange!
01:35Stafford heard what the children said. It made him very sad.
01:41I don't make much noise because I just run on batteries.
01:46Oh, I wish I could make steamy sounds like the other engines.
01:52Stafford arrived at the shunting yard.
01:55He had to collect the flatbeds of timber to take to the docks.
02:02Listen to Thomas and Percy, if only I had a chuff or a puff!
02:08Stafford's flatbeds of timber were soon ready.
02:13What's the matter, Stafford? You look sad.
02:16I know I'm just an electric engine, Thomas, but I want to chuff and puff like a steamy.
02:23Maybe we could help you.
02:25Could you?
02:27Of course, Stafford. We'll teach you to chuff and puff.
02:31Just follow us and you'll sound like a steamy in no time.
02:36So Stafford raced along with Thomas and Percy.
02:40Listen to my chuff, Stafford.
02:45Now you try.
02:47Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff!
02:51That's good. Now listen to Percy puffing.
02:58Now listen to Thomas and Percy puffing.
03:03Now try and puff, Stafford.
03:06Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff!
03:10Well done, Stafford. You sound just like a steamy.
03:14Thanks, Thomas. Thanks, Percy.
03:17So Stafford went to the docks and both Thomas and Percy agreed that Stafford sounded wonderful.
03:25Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff!
03:31Everybody loved hearing Stafford's new sounds.
03:35Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff!
03:39Hey, Stafford! You sound just like a steam engine!
03:43This made Stafford very happy.
03:46That's me! I'm steamy Stafford!
03:52When Stafford arrived at Brendam Docks, the dock workers began to unload his timber.
03:59Then Henry arrived and he whished his steam.
04:08Whish! That's another sound that steamies make.
04:12I'm going to make a sound like that too! Whish!
04:17Stafford raced back to the yard, making his new noises.
04:22Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff!
04:26Steamy Stafford coming through!
04:30But then he met Gordon. Stafford honked his horn.
04:37And Gordon blew his whistle.
04:42Oh, steamies have whistles, but I've only got a horn.
04:48Maybe I can make a sound like a steam whistle too.
04:53Woo! Woo!
04:56Then Stafford saw the children on the bridge again.
05:00Woo! Woo!
05:02Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff!
05:04The children loved Stafford's new noises.
05:07Hooray for steamy Stafford!
05:10Woo! Woo!
05:12Stafford had never been happier.
05:15Stafford went back to the yard to charge his batteries.
05:20Then the Fat Controller came to see him.
05:23Farmer McColl needs your help, Stafford.
05:27You must go to his farm immediately.
05:30You are just the engine for the job.
05:33Stafford was excited.
05:35He was coupled up to some livestock trucks and raced away as fast as he could.
05:44Puff! Puff! Puff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff!
05:46Whish! Woo! Woo!
05:49Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff!
05:51Whish! Woo! Woo!
05:55Stafford was soon at Farmer McColl's.
05:58Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff!
06:00Chuff! Chuff! Chuff! Chuff!
06:02Whish!
06:04Woo! Woo!
06:08But steamy Stafford's steamy sounds frightened all of Farmer McColl's lambs away.
06:16Farmer McColl was very upset.
06:21Stafford, I asked for you because you were a quiet engine and you wouldn't scare my lambs.
06:28And now, I don't know where they are.
06:31Oh, no! I'm sorry, Farmer McColl. Is there something I can do to help?
06:37But Farmer McColl had already gone to look for his lambs.
06:43Stafford felt terrible.
06:46Maybe sometimes it's best to be a quiet electric engine.
06:51And as Stafford sat there thinking, he heard something in the distance.
06:59Is that? Could it be?
07:03It is! I can hear the lambs! But Farmer McColl has gone the wrong way!
07:09So Stafford rolled quietly away to find Farmer McColl.
07:20I can hear the lambs! I know where they are!
07:24Well done, Stafford! Let's go and get them!
07:28So Stafford headed quietly towards the lambs.
07:32And he didn't puff, or chuff, or whish.
07:40Look! There they are!
07:44Farmer McColl was very pleased to find his lambs.
07:50And soon they were all safely on board Stafford's livestock trucks.
07:57Stafford took the lambs to their new field.
08:02My lambs really like you, Stafford, because you are nice and quiet.
08:12So as the sun went down, Stafford raced happily back to his shed.
08:20Stafford, what's happened to your puffing and chuffing?
08:24And your whishing and wooing?
08:27I'm not making those sounds any more. I'm not steamy, Stafford.
08:32I'm quiet, Stafford.
08:35The Electric Engine.
