- "at 5 (minutes) to (the hour)" is a Greek idiom, equivalent to "at the last minute".
- Sepolia is a neighbourhood in Athens. The word grammatically and syntactically is in plural. There isn't a singular form for this word (ie. Sepoli).
- Karagiozis is a shadow puppet and fictional character of Greek folklore, originating in the Turkish shadow play Karagöz and Hacivat. He is the main character of the tales narrated in the Turkish and Greek shadow-puppet theatre.
- Evgenios Spatharis was the most prominent shadow theatre artist in Greece.
- The surnames Karagiozis and Mavromatis both mean "black-eyed". The former is of Turkish origin, while the latter of Greek origin.
- When speaking to Alexis, Dalia is imitating the School Principal (aka "most assuredly") from the 1959 film "Maiden's cheek". The Principal speaks in a formal and older language and keeps repeating the phrase "most assuredly".

- The name "Kaiadas" was used in ancient times to refer to a large sinkhole near ancient Sparta, at the foot of Mount Taygetos. It's where the ancient Spartans are said to have thrown their crippled or stunted infants in order to ensure the eugenics of their tribe.
