00:00Trevor the Traction Engine enjoyed living in the Vicarage Orchard.
00:04Edward came to see him every day, but sometimes Trevor didn't have enough work to do.
00:10I do like to keep busy all the time, he sighed one day, and I do like company, especially children's company.
00:19Cheer up, smiled Edward, the Fat Controller has work for you at his new harbour.
00:25I'm to take you to meet Thomas today.
00:28Ah, exclaimed Trevor happily, a harbour, the seaside, children, that will be lovely.
00:46Thomas was on his way to the harbour with a trainload of metal pilings.
00:51They were needed to make the harbour wall firm and safe.
00:55Hello Thomas, said Edward, this is Trevor, a friend of mine, he's a traction engine.
01:02Thomas eyed the newcomer doubtfully.
01:05A what engine, he asked?
01:08A traction engine, explained Trevor, I run on roads instead of rails.
01:14Can you take me to the harbour please, the Fat Controller has a job for me.
01:19Yes, of course, replied Thomas, but he was still puzzled.
01:26Workmen coupled Trevor's truck to Thomas' train and soon they were ready to start their journey.
01:41I'm glad the Fat Controller needs me, called Trevor, I don't have enough to do sometimes, you know.
01:47Although I can work anywhere, in orchards, on farms, in scrapyards, even at harbours.
01:54But you don't run on rails, puffed Thomas.
01:57I'm a traction engine, I don't need rails to be useful, replied Trevor, you wait and see.
02:08When they reached the harbour they found everything in confusion.
02:13Trucks had been derailed, locking the line and stone slabs lay everywhere.
02:20We must get these pilings passed, said Thomas' driver, they are essential.
02:26Trevor, we need you to drag them round this mess.
02:30Just the sort of job I like, replied Trevor.
02:33Now you'll see Thomas, I'll soon show you what traction engines can do.
02:38Trevor was as good as his word.
02:41He dragged the pilings clear with chains and towed them into position.
02:48Who needs rails, he muttered cheerfully to himself.
03:04Later, Thomas brought Annie and Clarabel to visit him.
03:08Thomas was most impressed.
03:11Now I understand how useful a traction engine can be.
03:16The coaches were full of children.
03:19Trevor gave them rides along the harbour.
03:22He liked this best of all.
03:36He's very kind, said Annie.
03:39He reminds me of Thomas, added Clarabel.
03:42Everyone was sorry when it was time for Trevor to go.
03:46Thomas pulled him to the junction.
03:49A small tear came into Trevor's eye.
03:52Thomas pretended not to see.
03:54He whistled gaily to make Trevor happy.
03:57I'll come and see you if I can, he promised.
04:00The vicar will look after you and there's plenty of work for you now at the orchard.
04:05But we may need you again at the harbour someday.
04:08That would be wonderful, said Trevor.
04:11That evening Trevor stood remembering his new friend Thomas,
04:16the harbour and most of all the children.
04:20Then he went happily to sleep in the shed at the bottom of the orchard.
