00:00Percy worked hard at the new harbour. The workmen needed stone for their building.
00:05Toby helped, but sometimes the loads of stone were too heavy, and Percy had to fetch them for himself.
00:14Sometimes he'd see Thomas.
00:16Well done, Percy! The Fat Controller's very pleased with us.
00:22An airfield was close by. Percy heard the aeroplane zooming overhead all day.
00:30The noisiest of all was a helicopter.
00:37Stupid thing, said Percy. Why can't it go and buzz somewhere else?
00:43One day Percy stopped at the airfield.
00:48Hello, said Percy. Who are you?
00:50I'm Harold, said the helicopter. Who are you?
00:53I'm Percy. What whirly great arms you've got!
00:57They're nice arms, said Harold. I can hover like a bird. Don't you wish you could hover?
01:02Certainly not. I like my rails, thank you.
01:06I think railways are slow, said Harold. They're not much use and quite out of date.
01:12He whirled his arms and buzzed away.
01:18Percy found Toby at the quarry.
01:21I say, Toby, that Harold, that stuck-up whirlybird thing, says I'm slow and out of date.
01:28Just let him wait. I'll show him.
01:31He collected his trucks and started off, still fuming.
01:37Soon they heard a familiar buzzing.
01:41Percy's arms were shaking.
01:44I say, Percy, that Harold, that stuck-up whirlybird thing, says I'm slow and out of date.
01:50Just let him wait. I'll show him.
01:53He collected his trucks and started off, still fuming.
02:06Percy, whispered his driver, there's Harold, he's not far ahead, let's race him.
02:12Yes, let's, said Percy.
02:16Percy pounded along, the truck screamed and swayed.
02:20Well, I'll be a ding dong dang, said the driver.
02:25There was Harold, the race was on, go in Percy, he yelled, you're gaining.
02:32Percy had never been allowed to run fast before, he was having the time of his life.
02:36Hurry, hurry, hurry, he panted to the trucks.
02:40We don't want to, we don't want to, they grumbled, it was no use.
02:44Percy was bucketing along with flying wheels and Harold was high and alongside.
02:53The firemen shoveled for dear life.
03:03Well done, Percy, shouted the driver, we're gaining, we're going ahead, oh good boy, good
03:09boy.
03:16A distant signal warned them that the harbour wharf was near.
03:21Beep, beep, beep, brakes, guard, please, driver carefully checked the train's headlong speed.
03:33They rolled under the main line and halted on the wharf.
03:40Oh dear, groaned Percy, I'm sure we've lost, the firemen scrambled to the cab roof.
03:48We've won, we've won, he shouted, Harold's still hovering, he's looking for a place to land.
03:58Listen boys, the firemen called, here's a song for Percy.
04:03Said Harold helicopter to our Percy, you are slow, your railway is out of date and not
04:09much use, you know, but Percy with his stone trucks did the trip in record time and we
04:16beat the helicopter on our old branch line.
04:20Percy loved it, oh thank you, he said, he liked the last line best of all and was a
04:26very happy engine.
