00:00Hello, my name is Sharon Jones and these are the latest headlines from our newsrooms across the North West.
00:05Blackburn has a new independent MP in a shockingly tight vote split.
00:09Independent candidate Adnan Hussain has become Blackburn's new MP by just 132 votes.
00:15The defending Labour candidate, Kate Holland, has been the Borough's MP since 2015.
00:21A teenager has been arrested after Wigan police launched a murder investigation following the death of a pensioner.
00:28Officers responded to reports that an elderly man had been found with serious injuries on a road driving late on Friday, June 28th.
00:35They attempted the scene and determined that the man's injuries were not believed to be suspicious.
00:40He was taken to hospital for further treatment but over the ensuing days his condition deteriorated and he sadly passed away on the morning of July 3rd.
00:48In other news, proposals to upgrade a historic Blackburn town centre building have had to be powered back after developers found more damage than expected.
00:57Work began in February this year to transform the Art Deco Stanley buildings into a modern business hub as part of a £7.5 million investment due to be completed by spring next year.
01:09A like-for-like replacement of fenced tiles which covers the upper floors of the building have been proposed,
01:14but the number of damaged blocks has been found to have more than doubled to 235 compared to the 99 originally identified.
01:23A popular Lancaster chippy has now been in business for 26 years.
01:28Hussain's Chippy in Prospect Street celebrated the landmark on July 1st,
01:32and Nigel Hodgson, who runs the business with his wife Linda, said all their initial hard work, commitment and sacrifices has paid off.
01:39To enable us to buy the chippy we had to sell our much-loved house and uproot the children from their home to live above the chip shop, he said.
01:47And finally, Labour's Jonathan Hinder has won the new Pendle and Clitherow seat from former long-standing Pendle Tory MP Andrew Stevenson.
01:57Mr Hinder, a Ribble Valley resident, won the new seat after a tense contest from Mr Stevenson who won four elections from 2010 for the Conservative Party.
02:06The Tories have requested a recount but in the end the victory was declared for Labour's Hinder who received 16,129 votes to Stevenson's 15,227.
