00:00Hello my name is Sharon Jones and these are the latest headlines from our newsrooms across the
00:04North West. Motorists in Preston have been warned of pending ongoing delays as Electricity North West
00:10get set to undertake works. Mobile electric signs have been erected on Garstang Road for warning
00:16motorists of cable works that will get underway from Saturday July 20th. When the Post approached
00:22Electricity North West about this they said the works would not be carried out on Garstang Road
00:27and that the signage placed there was just to alert drivers that they will be working in the area.
00:33Cathy Claxton, Head of School at Langate School, part of the Aspire Federation in Wigan,
00:39bid an emotional farewell to parents, carers, learners and work colleagues and will be
00:44retiring from her post at the end of this academic year after 24 years working in Wigan schools.
00:51In her letters to parents and carers, Cathy Claxton said,
00:54Throughout my career in Wigan I have been very fortunate to work with some wonderful people,
00:59brilliant teachers and amazing children and none more so than here at Langate and within the Aspire
01:04Federation. It has been a privilege to lead such an amazing school and I will truly miss working
01:09with such wonderful children and young people, their parents, families and our staff team.
01:16In other news, a man who was previously working for a nursing agency has been jailed for defrauding
01:21four hotels in Blackpool out of thousands of pounds. John Allison, also known as Jay Allison
01:27or John Kerr, was charged with three counts of fraud, three counts of obtaining services
01:32dishonestly and two counts of possession of articles to using fraud in Blackpool between
01:38September 2019 and December 2019. It was reported that Allison, then working for a nursing agency,
01:44had made a number of bookings to supply accommodation for agency nurses.
01:49A family fun weekend will be held in Happy Mountain Park in Morecambe next month.
01:53Morecambe Event Co. have said they are bringing a large market to the park complete with a huge
01:57selection of local traders, crafters and businesses as well as games and crafts activities for the
02:04children to complement the on-site play park, crazy golf, train, trampolines and splash park.
02:11And finally, a free fan zone is to be set up in Colne to host the live coverage of the Euro 2024
02:17final, featuring England and Spain. The fan zone, opening at 6pm, will be located in Alkin
02:24Coates Park and will be a follow-on from the Town Council's planned Family Fun Day.
