00:00It was a cold winter's morning on the island of Sodor.
00:05The wind was bitter on the ground, hard with frost.
00:08Thomas and Percy were cold and cross.
00:11All I want is a warm boiler, huffed Thomas.
00:14Firelighter knows that he's late.
00:16He's not late, replied Percy.
00:19This cold weather woke us up early.
00:21Gusts of wind swirled flakes of snow towards Thomas.
00:25Then they swooshed round Percy too.
00:28Why don't we talk about something else, shivered Percy?
00:31Yes, like how silly we look when our funnels turn into icicles.
00:36That's not funny.
00:38Maybe we'll stop feeling cold
00:40if we talk about warm things like sunshine and steam.
00:44And firelighters, muttered Thomas.
00:48Scarves, continued Percy.
00:51Scarves? That's what you need, Percy.
00:54A woolly scarf round your funnel.
00:57Thomas was only teasing,
00:59but Percy thought happily about scarves until the firelighter came.
01:04The Fat Controller was enjoying hot porridge for breakfast.
01:08He was looking forward to taking important visitors on the tour of the railway
01:12and had pressed his special trousers.
01:15I shall put them in my trunk and change into them
01:18just before the photographs are taken, he said to his wife.
01:22Then he set off to catch his train.
01:25Percy was now working hard.
01:28His fire was burning nicely and he had plenty of steam.
01:32But he still thought about scarves.
01:35He saw them everywhere he went.
01:43My funnel's cold, my funnel's cold, he puffed.
01:46I want a scarf, I want a scarf.
01:49Rubbish, Percy, said Henry.
01:51Engines don't wear scarves.
01:53Engines with proper funnels do, replied Percy.
01:56You've only got a small one.
01:59Before Henry could answer, Percy puffed away.
02:03Henry snorted.
02:06He was looking forward to pulling the special train.
02:09It was time for the photographs.
02:11Everyone was excited.
02:13The Fat Controller was waiting on the platform for his trousers.
02:17They were in a trunk amongst a big load of baggage.
02:20The porters were taking the baggage trolley across the line.
02:23They were walking backwards to see that nothing fell off.
02:27Percy was still being cheeky.
02:31His driver always shut off steam just outside the station.
02:35Percy wanted to surprise the coaches by coming in as quietly as he could.
02:39But the porters didn't hear him either.
02:44Boxes and bags burst everywhere.
02:51Oh, groaned Percy.
03:02Sticky streams of jam trickled down Percy's face.
03:06A top hat hung on his lamp iron.
03:09Worst of all, a pair of trousers coiled lovingly round his funnel.
03:15Everyone was very angry.
03:17The Fat Controller seized the top hat.
03:20Mine, he said.
03:22Percy, look at this.
03:24Yes, sir, I am, sir.
03:26My best trousers, too.
03:29Yes, sir. Please, sir.
03:31We must pay the passengers for their spoiled clothes, and my trousers are ruined.
03:35I hope this will teach you not to play tricks with the coaches.
03:39Percy was very angry.
03:42Percy went off to the yard.
03:44He felt very silly.
03:46On the way, he met James.
03:48Hello, Percy. So you found the scarf, eh?
03:51But legs go in trousers, not funnels.
03:54And he puffed away to tell Henry the news.
03:57That evening, Thomas and Percy were resting in the shed.
04:01Percy's driver had taken away the trousers and given Percy a good rubdown.
04:06Firelighters promised to come early tomorrow, said Thomas.
04:10Henry arrived.
04:12He'd enjoyed taking the visitors around, and now he felt sorry for Percy, too.
04:17Driver says the weather will be warmer tomorrow.
04:20You won't need a scarf, Percy.
04:22Certainly not, replied Percy.
04:24Engines don't need scarves. Engines need warm boilers.
04:27Everyone knows that.
