00:00We have a lot to cover here on the show today, but unfortunately, it's going to start off
00:07with some pretty sad news in terms of wins and losses.
00:11Let's just be real.
00:12The U.S. men's soccer team needs a revamp at this point.
00:15What in the world is going on?
00:17At Copa America, Team USA loses.
00:20They're out.
00:21Uruguay wins one to nothing, and yeah, the early stage collapse is complete.
00:27Greg Berkhalter is taking a beating right now on social media, my gosh, and even the
00:32analysts right now on television, everywhere.
00:35Former soccer players from Team USA just crushing this guy.
00:39It's the first time the U.S. men's national team has been eliminated from the group stage
00:43of a major tournament after winning its first game.
00:47My goodness.
00:48Also, the first time the U.S. men's team was eliminated from the group stage from a major
00:52tournament hosted on home soil.
00:55It has been a brutal turn of events for Team USA.
00:59Greg Berkhalter seems to be in some trouble in terms of coaching.
01:03Just to see the guys' faces in the locker room and see the emotion of the staff and
01:08players, we're bitterly disappointed with the results.
01:13We know that we're capable of more, and this tournament, we didn't show it.
01:20It's really as simple as that.
01:21I think that you look at the stage that was set with the fans in this tournament, with
01:27the high level of competition in this tournament, and we should have done better.
01:33We'll do a review and figure out what went wrong, why it went wrong, but I think it's
01:39an empty feeling right now for sure.
01:42That's what we're going to take a look at.
01:43We're all going to do a review of the whole tournament and see where we fell short.
01:49It's obvious that the Panama game hurt us, put us behind the eight ball.
01:55I think collectively, the staff, the players, the sporting department, we need to look at
02:00where do we improve, how do we do better.
02:03It's not the aspirations that we have as a group.
02:06We know it's a talented team with big potential, and we didn't show it in this tournament.
02:13It's really, I think, about learning from this whole month.
02:16It wasn't only Copa America, but it's learning from these high level games that we're playing
02:22pre-tournament and in-tournament, and us having the understanding, the collective understanding
02:28that the margins are so small, and there's very little separating any of these teams.
02:35You have to treat every game as the same.
02:37When you see the effort tonight that we put in, it's incredible.
02:40The guys did a great job.
02:41They worked extremely hard, put in a great effort against a really good team, but that
02:46needs to be the standard.
02:47Every time we step on the field, that needs to be the same effort.
02:51Who knows if Berhalter will be part of this next process.
02:54There's a lot of rumors and some speculation that they could make a change there.
02:58Meanwhile, one of the best men's player in the country, Christian Pulicic, talked about
03:02the loss yesterday against Uruguay.
03:06Christian, I know how much pride you take in representing the country and the fight
03:11tonight from you guys.
03:12How would you describe what went down and why you guys fell short?
03:17It's difficult to say right now.
03:18Obviously, the emotions are running high.
03:22We had a good start and brought a lot of energy, but at the end of the day, just not enough
03:26quality.
03:27I felt like we gave it everything, but just couldn't find the solutions to score.
03:33There was so much physicality tonight.
03:34How much frustration is there with the referee?
03:38There's a lot.
03:40I don't want to talk too much about the ref.
03:44It does get frustrating, but that's what this tournament is about.
03:48We just have to do our best to cope with it.
03:51I know it's short, but where do you guys go from here?
03:53What do you want to work on moving forward?
03:55Now, it's just about getting a little bit of rest and regrouping and finding an identity
04:03again.
04:04We have some big things ahead, so we're going to look forward to that.
04:07Thank you, Christian.
04:08Not a ton of optimism.
04:10What's next?
04:11Getting rest.
04:12Not what you want to hear.
04:13All right, let's get to the NBA.
04:14Donovan Mitchell looks like he's staying put in Cleveland.
04:16New deal.
04:17Three years, $150 million maximum contract extension.
04:21That will take him through the 20-7-28 season.
04:26Naturally, that looks to be the future for Spider Mitchell.
04:30A lot of speculation as to whether or not he could potentially leave Cleveland.
04:33I guess that's somewhat still on the table, but looks like he's staying in Cleveland.
04:37Looks like he's staying in Cleveland with that contract.
04:39All right, Klay Thompson.
04:40We talked about him yesterday on the show.
04:41He's got a new destination.
04:43It is the Dallas Mavericks.
04:45A three-year, $50 million contract.
04:49Thirteen seasons with Golden State, but his relationship with the club came to an end
04:56and naturally had some other suitors, potentially the Lakers, but chose to go to Dallas.
05:01Meanwhile, a very crazy story.
05:03The Boston Celtics win the championship and Wick Grosbeck,
05:08who is part of the majority ownership group in Boston,
05:11has announced that they are planning to make the franchise available for sale.
05:17That's right.
05:18You win a championship and then you sell high.
05:19I guess that's what happens.
05:20Now, again, it doesn't mean necessarily the team is going to get sold,
05:23but the team essentially now is available to be sold.
05:26Also, news from the Celtics yesterday.
05:29Another mega contract extension.
05:31This time it is Jason Tatum, five years, 300, folks, $314 million
05:41to go along with Jalen Brown's 285, Drew Holliday's 134,
05:47Derek White's 125, and Chris Stapp's Porzingis 60.
05:51That's $919 million in contract extensions.
05:57Wow.
05:58Shohei Otani got $700 million, by the way, one guy.
06:01Speaking of baseball, the Houston Astros continue to play well,
06:04diving themselves back into the playoff picture.
06:07They win 3-1 against the Blue Jays yesterday.
06:09Jays going the other way.
06:11The Mets had an incredible 10th inning, six runs.
06:14They end up beating the Washington Nationals by a final of 9-7.
06:18You can see the Nationals even scored some runs there to come back.
06:21Jadie Martinez hit a three-run home run.
06:23Jose Iglesias hit a two-run home run.
06:26Mets continue to play solid baseball.
06:28Also, in case you missed it,
06:30the Nationals showed off their prized possession.
06:33His name is James Wood.
06:35He got called up and made his debut yesterday.
06:37He got a base hit in his first at-bat.
06:39James Wood is now a major leaguer.
06:41He played in the Futures game, by the way, once upon a time.
06:44Major League Baseball just announced their roster for the Futures game,
06:48which will play in Arlington in a couple of weeks.
06:50They also announced, by the way, that as part of the game,
06:54they're going to have skills competition before the game,
06:57and one of those skills is calling your shot.
07:00Imagine that in a baseball game like Babe Ruth.
07:02The kids are going to be able to say, I'm going to hit it here and out,
07:05and then if you do it, you get points.
07:06Pretty cool idea.
07:07All right.
07:08Over to the NFL.
07:09John Gruden loses a bid for the Nevada Supreme Court
07:11to reconsider whether a contract interference in conspiracy lawsuit
07:14he filed against the NFL after he resigned from the Raiders
07:16should be heard in arbitration.
07:18Lost the bid.
07:19It is over.
07:20Simone Biles' husband, Jonathan Owens,
07:22he's an NFL player for the Chicago Bears.
07:24He's been given some time off later this month to go to France
07:27to watch his wife participate.
07:29Really nice, cool story there.
07:31He'll be away from just a few days to watch Simone try and get the gold.
07:35Also,
07:36Bette Rivers is going to remain the only functioning online sportsbook
07:39in Delaware for at least the next few months in 2024.
07:43There's a new bill to bring six other online sportsbooks to the state.
07:46It did not pass before the end of June,
07:48so no other opportunities there.
07:51In the WNBA tonight, we've got a full slate of games.
07:55Minnesota Lynx taking on the New York Liberty.
07:57Liberty, six-point favorite.
07:58Chicago Sky at the Atlanta Dream.
08:00Fever back in action tonight,
08:02but they're going against the best team,
08:03so doesn't look pretty, at least on paper.
08:05Las Vegas, 13-point favorites.
08:07And the Washington Mystics at the Los Angeles Sparks.
08:10Sparks are one-point favorites there.
