00:00The Injury Report never stops in Major League Baseball.
00:03I always laugh, like, hey, you ever played Madden football?
00:05And you say, you know what, just turn the injuries off.
00:06Let's have a good time here.
00:07It never stops on opening day, at opening weekend.
00:09And a couple big injuries to talk about already here, Tom.
00:12Max Scherzer, and again, this just reads it,
00:15Max Scherzer's already injured with a lat soreness injury,
00:18which shows that he hasn't been healthy
00:20the past couple of years.
00:21Teams saying, could he get back to normal?
00:23Is this the end of the road, Tom?
00:26From my guy, Max Scherzer, come on now.
00:29It's the end of the road for the pitcher that he once was.
00:32He's also dealing with a thumb thing.
00:34And I think he said in the post game yesterday
00:36that it was, or the other day, that was related to the thumb
00:39where, I don't know, he's gripping it too much,
00:41whatever it might be.
00:42It's the end of the road for him
00:43being a 35% strikeout pitcher,
00:45being a threat to go out there and have a no hitter
00:48every other time he's on the mat.
00:50Can he be a serviceable pitcher?
00:52Sure.
00:53I think that's what we all have to, like,
00:54come to the realization that, like,
00:56the Scherzer that we once saw is gone.
00:58Obviously this puts in question
00:59what was already a completely average
01:01Blue Jays roster to begin with.
01:03Like, now it's even worse.
01:06By the way, I'm not a doctor.
01:07I only play one here at the Sports Grid Network
01:09because I'm going to bring up this next one here.
01:10Whenever I hear Manny Machado, my calf tightened up,
01:13it's no big deal, it's only a cramp.
01:15I get worried, Tom, the immediate time I hear that.
01:18Now look at Machado going like,
01:20why, he can't be in the lineup today.
01:21And I hope it's not long-term.
01:24Oh, I hope it's not long-term.
01:26You hope it's just like a,
01:28what do you call it, a calf cramp,
01:29like we see in the NFL,
01:30where the players are able to come back.
01:31Like, it seems like an issue at the time,
01:32but after, you know, 24 hours, some amount of rest,
01:35he should be able to get back out there.
01:36The concern that I have is it's not about the fielding.
01:40It's more about the planting when he's at the plate
01:43trying to get a hit.
01:44He's actually trying to, you know,
01:45drive power through his legs,
01:46and the calf becomes an issue
01:47because he's not able to generate power.
01:49So he may seem normal, may be able to field the ball,
01:51but if he's not generating power,
01:53then he's not a player that we can trust.
01:54And frankly, he's not a player that should be in lineup.
01:56So I would have more concerns about a hitting aspect
01:58than him being a defensive liability.
02:01Ah, taking a look right now.
02:02Lineup's already coming out, Tom.
02:04And I see some of my orders and lineups
02:06that aren't quite sure
02:07what they were supposed to be entering into today.
02:08So some interesting stuff we'll get to
02:10in just a few moments here,
02:11but hitting some of those rest of the guys
02:12that were injured.
02:13Jose Ramirez left the game after having a sprained wrist
02:16and a couple of Philadelphia Phillies.
02:17JT Ramuto, bruised foot.
02:19X-rays came back negative.
02:21And Trey Turner,
02:21did he make it to the starting gate yesterday?
02:23Vax would have seized up on him a little bit.
02:24We'll see if he's able to go today.
02:26But usually in the beginning of the season,
02:27you're extra cautious with these type of injuries here.
