00:00Kendra Thomas is suing her former friend, Raekrisha Hood,
00:05for the return of rent, her security
00:07deposit, and her belongings.
00:10Ms. Thomas, you've known Ms. Hood for a very long time.
00:12Yes, ma'am.
00:13How many years have you been friends?
00:15We've been friends for about 11 or 12 years.
00:19And you lived together at several different places.
00:22Yes, ma'am.
00:23You most recently lived together where?
00:25In Arlington at a two-bedroom apartment.
00:28And you rented that apartment when?
00:30Around July.
00:32Of last year?
00:33Yes, ma'am.
00:34The lease is in your name?
00:35Yes, that's correct.
00:36But you were roommates?
00:37Yes, ma'am.
00:38Each paying your own rent.
00:39And you had a fight in what month?
00:41Around December 2018.
00:44According to you, the fight that you had
00:45turned a little physical, and you left.
00:48Yes, ma'am.
00:49The defendant changed the locks on the door,
00:51couldn't get your stuff.
00:52It was mid-December.
00:53You had already paid your portion of December's rent,
00:57so you want your property back?
00:59Yes, ma'am.
01:00You say you paid the security on the apartment,
01:02you want your security back,
01:04and a portion of December's rent.
01:06Ms. Hood says that you assaulted her in December.
01:08She's counterclaiming for that assault.
01:10Just curious, two ladies who've known each other
01:13for a long time, I assume that you both work?
01:16Yes, ma'am.
01:17Right?
01:18What were you fighting about?
01:20About a $3 bottle of wine.
01:22That crazy?
01:23Yes, ma'am.
01:24What about a $3 bottle of wine?
01:27She asked me the night before I was in the kitchen
01:30and I was cooking, she asked me if I wanted
01:32to drink some wine with her.
01:33I said yes.
01:35I drank a couple of cups of wine.
01:37This went into the next day.
01:38I don't know if she knew I was in the house or what,
01:41but she came in the house the next day,
01:44and she was talking to her boyfriend about this wine.
01:48She said that she wasn't,
01:49I know not to share my stuff again, and all that stuff.
01:53I really couldn't hear what her boyfriend said,
01:55but he said something to her,
01:57and she said, don't get a beat up.
01:59That's not what happened.
02:01I came home from work, I'm doing 12 hours,
02:03I get home, I came in to my boyfriend,
02:06I was like, man, I ain't got no more wine left.
02:08I said, man, next time I'm not gonna share my wine,
02:10cause I offered her a glass,
02:12and she drunk the whole bottle up
02:13instead of taking the glass instead.
02:16And that's when she, next thing I know,
02:17she comes out the room yelling in my face,
02:21next time don't ask me for it,
02:23don't offer me something if you didn't wanna give it.
02:25I said, I offer you a glass, not the whole bottle.
02:28I said, you drunk it up.
02:29And that's when she gets mad, pushes me in my face,
02:32and we got into an altercation,
02:33she pushed me so hard against the door,
02:35she broke the door, and pulled out my hair.
02:37So I got patches in my hair that's not grown back still.
02:40I had to go to the doctor and everything,
02:42cause she assaulted me over a bottle of wine.
02:45I'm thinking, we've been friends for 11, 12 years,
02:48we're not gonna get into an altercation over a bottle of wine.
02:51I thought we were just gonna have a little cup of words,
02:53things, words, go in our rooms and shut the door.
02:55But that wasn't the case, she shoved me in my face,
02:58and point her fingers in my face,
03:00like, next time don't you ask me for something
03:02if you didn't wanna give it.
03:03I said, I offer you a glass, not the whole bottle.
03:06I said, why are you pushing me in my face for?
03:09Like, what's the problem?
03:10Like, what is your problem?
03:12Sounds silly, and you're repeating it, doesn't it?
03:14Yes, very much so.
03:16Does sound silly.
03:16Are you still living in the apartment?
03:18I just recently moved out of it.
03:20Did you break the lease?
03:21No, I was evicted.
03:23Evicted for non-payment of rent?
03:25Yes, that's correct.
03:26When was the last month that you paid rent?
03:29January.
03:30What happened in February?
03:32In February, I wasn't able to pay it.
03:34How much was the rent?
03:35The rent was $995 plus utilities.
03:38It was included, so it usually came out
03:40to about $1095 or $1100 a month.
03:43And your agreement with the plaintiff
03:45was to split the rent?
03:46No, I agreed to her only paying $500 a month,
03:50and I was gonna take care of everything else.
03:52Let's first talk about the security deposit.
03:55I don't have to figure out
03:57whether you paid the security deposit or not.
04:00She was evicted, she didn't get back the security deposit,
04:03so it doesn't matter.
04:04The only furniture you left there was a bed, is that right?
04:07Bed, mirror, I have it right here.
04:10When did you make an attempt to get it?
04:12I made a couple of attempts to get it.
04:14Like, a couple of days later, a week later,
04:18two weeks later, I mean, it just went on and on.
04:21♪♪♪
