00:00 the Stanley Cup final.
00:04 [MUSIC]
00:05 Very happy to be breaking down game number one in all of the Stanley Cup final
00:10 as you see it.
00:11 So the Panthers back into the cup final for a second straight year but
00:14 different circumstances.
00:15 And last year they were the plucky underdogs,
00:17 the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.
00:19 This year much better odds to get to this stage once again.
00:23 Edmonton with Connor McDavid into the cup final for the first time since 06.
00:29 How do you think these two teams stacked up now getting ready to start the Stanley
00:33 Cup final tomorrow night?
00:34 >> I think that it's a pretty good matchup.
00:38 We saw both of the conference finals for
00:40 their respective conferences go to six games.
00:43 So you kind of saw both teams get their momentum.
00:45 Florida had really close contests with New York throughout that series.
00:49 And Edmonton really impressed me towards the tail end of their series against
00:52 Dallas.
00:53 Dallas is a great team.
00:54 They have a lot of depth and Edmonton proved a point there.
00:57 And making it to the Stanley Cup final,
00:59 this is a hump that the Oilers have been trying to get over for
01:01 the past couple of seasons.
01:03 But Florida, my goodness, top to bottom, they might be the best equipped team.
01:07 They play a really rough style of hockey that gets under the skin of their
01:10 opponents.
01:11 And this is gonna be really well contested.
01:13 I think it's gonna be a long series.
01:15 >> A lot of talk about this and rightfully so.
01:18 The last time Canada won a championship, meaning the Stanley Cup,
01:21 was way back in 1993.
01:23 Let me ask you this question because I like to equate it to terms that I know.
01:27 No, no, here we go.
01:28 Listen to this.
01:30 >> Yeah, get right to it.
01:30 >> I'm a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL.
01:32 They're in the east.
01:34 So if I say to myself, hey, as long as we keep it in the east,
01:36 like if the Dallas Cowboys win the championship, that's fine and
01:39 that's merited here.
01:40 But in Canada, are there rivalries where you say,
01:42 I don't care that Edmonton is in Canada.
01:45 I don't wanna see Edmonton win the cup.
01:46 Or is it just national pride here?
01:49 Look, what do we got?
01:50 >> A lot of people do support their team.
01:54 I'm not gonna speak for all Canadians here.
01:56 I'm definitely not gonna do that cuz they're gonna come attack me in very nice
01:59 way because we are Canadian.
02:01 But they do support their teams over the country.
02:04 I think a majority of people do because you still have a lot of rivalries.
02:07 I don't know if anyone in Calgary is rooting for
02:09 the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup.
02:11 I hate to break it to you.
02:12 I feel like the Battle of Alberta is one of the biggest rivalries in the NHL.
02:15 But as someone from Toronto, I personally would love to see the Cup come back
02:21 to Canada.
02:21 So I'm one of those folks who's like, it's been a while since it's been north
02:25 of the border.
02:26 And a lot of Canadians do this because everyone in the States keeps saying that
02:29 Canada doesn't want a Stanley Cup in so long.
02:31 But a lot of Canadians will say American teams win with Canadian players.
02:35 So a lot of people root for guys who are from near where they're from.
02:39 So the Cup comes back during the summer when they all have their day with
02:41 the Cup.
