00:00:04 Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:00:06 Hard hats, much pale steel to a boot.
00:00:08 Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:10 Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:12 You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:15 Somebody said we need to apologize for Jaylen.
00:00:17 Can I pull the John?
00:00:18 What are we apologizing for?
00:00:19 What did we say?
00:00:20 What did we do?
00:00:20 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:27 Check it out.
00:00:29 Ladies and gentlemen, Chris "Daps" Porzingis
00:00:33 at Celtics practice shooting basketballs.
00:00:36 Wow.
00:00:37 Where-- what's he doing, Jimmy?
00:00:39 What else is he doing?
00:00:39 He looks good.
00:00:40 He's fully dressed.
00:00:42 He's wearing clothes.
00:00:43 He is fully dressed.
00:00:44 That's what he's wearing.
00:00:45 He's got a shirt on.
00:00:46 He's got a shirt on.
00:00:48 What do you mean?
00:00:49 I like that leg sleeve.
00:00:51 This guy is fully dressed.
00:00:53 And here we are at the Garden Report.
00:00:56 First time I'm seeing these guys ever.
00:00:58 We didn't do this in our--
00:00:59 Final season.
00:01:00 Let's go.
00:01:00 Let's go.
00:01:01 NBA final season.
00:01:02 A very once--
00:01:03 a very wise man once said in a cold open,
00:01:07 maybe 35 seconds ago, anything short of a championship
00:01:11 year is a failure.
00:01:12 And I believe that's where we are, Sherrod Blakely.
00:01:15 Yes, we are.
00:01:17 Yes, we are.
00:01:18 Yeah.
00:01:19 That was a false start.
00:01:20 It's officially championship before bus.
00:01:22 What's up, guys?
00:01:25 What's up, boys?
00:01:26 We're doing it.
00:01:26 What's going on, fellas?
00:01:27 We're really doing it.
00:01:29 We're really doing it.
00:01:30 This is the NBA finals preview show.
00:01:32 Did we actually think that we would ever
00:01:35 do this show this season?
00:01:36 I think we probably thought so.
00:01:38 We thought we probably thought so.
00:01:39 Even though we liked the--
00:01:43 we had to kind of make it interesting a few times.
00:01:45 Didn't actually make it seem like we didn't think
00:01:47 this show would ever come.
00:01:48 But we thought it would come.
00:01:49 Go back to our season prediction show.
00:01:51 And we all thought this show was going to come.
00:01:53 Yeah.
00:01:53 Every single first game.
00:01:53 Not against the Mavericks, though.
00:01:55 But--
00:01:55 Not against the Mavericks.
00:01:56 We'll get into it.
00:01:57 We had, I believe, Suns, Nuggets, Nuggets, Nuggets,
00:02:02 loss to the Nuggets, and Warriors.
00:02:05 I had Warriors in the finals.
00:02:07 Thanks.
00:02:09 It's almost as bad as Suns, which is what I had.
00:02:12 That was bad.
00:02:13 That did not age well.
00:02:15 That's on me.
00:02:15 No, it didn't.
00:02:17 That's on me.
00:02:17 I knew they wouldn't make the playoffs, those Warriors.
00:02:20 We made it, guys.
00:02:21 We made it.
00:02:21 We made it.
00:02:22 I want to say, everything we said before this,
00:02:27 throw it out, OK?
00:02:28 We'll start anew.
00:02:30 We're starting--
00:02:30 Clean slate.
00:02:31 Clean slate.
00:02:32 Clean slate.
00:02:33 We're starting from scratch.
00:02:34 And we'll wait for the room to fill up,
00:02:36 and we'll get into our previews.
00:02:37 We'll hear from-- a little bit from Joe.
00:02:40 We'll hear some from Kyrie Irving.
00:02:42 Public enemy number one, I guess.
00:02:45 Far.
00:02:48 I guess.
00:02:48 Still.
00:02:49 I have--
00:02:49 Not for me.
00:02:50 Not for me.
00:02:51 For some people.
00:02:52 I know.
00:02:53 We'll get predictions.
00:02:54 We'll get--
00:02:55 For me.
00:02:55 --the series.
00:02:56 We'll talk about who's got the most amount of pressure.
00:02:59 But guys, just first off, I'll just go around the horn
00:03:02 for a quickie.
00:03:04 This is all happening now.
00:03:06 And as we said, a lot of us thought it was going to happen.
00:03:09 And honestly, we almost just impatiently
00:03:13 waited for it to happen.
00:03:14 And I would say, most of our talk and analysis,
00:03:17 almost from the last 30, 40 games of the regular season
00:03:21 through the playoffs, was like, can we get this?
00:03:24 Can we get to the finals?
00:03:25 And now we're at the finals.
00:03:26 So how are you feeling now that it's here?
00:03:29 Jimmy.
00:03:29 Let's go.
00:03:30 Go, Jimmy.
00:03:31 Go, Jimmy.
00:03:32 Doing good.
00:03:32 Shiraz ready.
00:03:33 Shiraz coming in hot.
00:03:34 I like that.
00:03:35 I love it.
00:03:35 Shiraz is more ready than Jimmy.
00:03:36 So I'm going to put Shiraz in first.
00:03:37 No, I'm ready.
00:03:38 I'm ready.
00:03:39 Yeah, you go.
00:03:40 Good call, coach.
00:03:40 Good call, coach.
00:03:41 Someone else is ready.
00:03:42 You kind of like--
00:03:43 Who wants it?
00:03:44 Stay ready.
00:03:45 He wants the last-- he wants the first play.
00:03:47 Give it to Shiraz, coach.
00:03:48 Jimmy, you're in.
00:03:49 And then Shiraz just kind of gave me a little nudge
00:03:50 to go out there.
00:03:51 So that's kind of how it happened.
00:03:53 Come on, Jimmy.
00:03:53 Let's go.
00:03:54 Listen, I'm fired up.
00:03:55 It's been a long time coming.
00:03:56 I feel like it's been four months,
00:03:58 it seems, since I've felt something.
00:04:01 That Pacer series gave me a little jolt.
00:04:03 It gave me just enough to believe
00:04:05 that this team does, in fact, have the mental makeup
00:04:09 and does have the pieces together and is kind of
00:04:12 clicking at the right time.
00:04:14 That's what that Pacer series did for me,
00:04:16 even though on paper it looks like it was an easy one.
00:04:18 But those games were difficult. The Celtics had to--
00:04:23 they had to execute, is the word I was thinking of,
00:04:27 down the stretch.
00:04:27 And they did that.
00:04:28 So Porzingis is the very last question mark with this team,
00:04:32 whether or not he's going to be ready to go,
00:04:34 and how effective he's going to be.
00:04:36 Regardless of Porzingis, I still like this team.
00:04:38 Obviously, I like him a little more with Porzingis.
00:04:40 But I'm fired up.
00:04:41 I think this team deserves to be here.
00:04:43 There were a lot more ups than downs this year,
00:04:47 despite some of the downs maybe being a little bit blown up,
00:04:51 bigger than they needed to be, looking back.
00:04:53 But we all thought that these guys were going to be here.
00:04:56 They're here.
00:04:57 And I can tell you that nothing has changed,
00:05:00 at least on this panel, to make us think that the Celtics don't
00:05:03 have what it takes to raise that 18th banner.
00:05:06 So yeah, I'm fired up.
00:05:07 I'm ready for-- I'm ready.
00:05:08 I want to get these games going, man.
00:05:09 The downtime is what's killing me here.
00:05:12 Yeah.
00:05:13 Ready for a lot of it.
00:05:14 Sherrod, we've been stuck in downtime for like four months,
00:05:16 though.
00:05:17 I know.
00:05:17 And that's-- you know, I mean, it's kind of like when July
00:05:21 rolls around and you know exactly what you want
00:05:23 for Christmas, you know damn well mom and dad are going
00:05:26 to get that for you for Christmas.
00:05:27 But guess what?
00:05:27 They've got to wait till freaking Christmas to get it.
00:05:30 And it feels like that's where we're at.
00:05:32 We've been waiting for the Celtics to be at this point
00:05:34 because we knew this is where they belong.
00:05:37 This is where they should be based on the way they play,
00:05:39 the way they control the action, the way
00:05:41 they have positioned themselves to be the best team in the NBA.
00:05:44 And when all is said and done, this
00:05:46 is where they're supposed to be.
00:05:47 Now we still have to wait some time before the games get here.
00:05:51 Which again, I'm with you, Jimmy.
00:05:52 I just want to get these games going.
00:05:54 Because this series, there's so many ridiculously awesome
00:05:58 storylines to this game.
00:06:00 There's the Kyrie factor, the Tatum and Luka factor,
00:06:03 the others.
00:06:04 You know, you got PJ--
00:06:05 Porzingis factor.
00:06:06 Porzingis factor, right.
00:06:07 And Dallas, I mean, they took two guys
00:06:10 who were on just the crappiest teams in the NBA.
00:06:13 And now all of a sudden, they're in the NBA finals.
00:06:16 We could go on and on about the different story.
00:06:18 The emergence of Drew Holiday, who
00:06:21 reminded us why he was such a sought
00:06:23 after guy for the Celtics when the offseason rolled around.
00:06:27 It goes on and on and on.
00:06:28 But the big thing that's not going on are the damn games.
00:06:31 Let's go!
00:06:33 That's right.
00:06:34 Yeah.
00:06:34 Let's get it.
00:06:35 Yeah, no, dead on, man.
00:06:37 I'm in it for the storylines for sure.
00:06:39 Kyrie Irving coming back to Boston,
00:06:41 that's like third on my list.
00:06:42 I'm more into Tatum versus Luka.
00:06:45 Yeah, the Kyrie thing is going to be a factor, I think,
00:06:48 in a sense of he's going to have to get
00:06:50 comfortable in that environment.
00:06:51 I don't think the Celtics fans will let up.
00:06:53 But I'm excited, man.
00:06:54 I can't wait to see this happen, because it
00:06:55 was very convincing to me the way
00:06:56 that things went down in Indiana.
00:06:58 Down to the wire, guys that really wanted it.
00:07:00 I think Drew Holiday and Al Horford stand out,
00:07:03 as well as obviously Tatum and Brown.
00:07:05 But those two guys, I mean, this is only their second time here.
00:07:09 And you just never know in the NBA.
00:07:10 And I think these guys have shown that.
00:07:14 Whether it's down the stretch, making those big plays,
00:07:17 I think he makes sure--
00:07:18 both of those guys make sure that everyone's
00:07:19 connected on that end of the floor.
00:07:20 And that's going to be huge on the defensive side.
00:07:22 Because the Dallas Mavericks, they're
00:07:24 going to have a problem putting up points from other guys
00:07:26 outside of Kyrie and Luka.
00:07:29 But the Celtics have to make sure that that's always an issue.
00:07:33 Yeah, I'm trying to convince myself
00:07:35 Dallas has a chance here.
00:07:36 And you know I've given credit to the other side
00:07:38 in pretty much every series so far.
00:07:40 The Bobby Barkley kiss of death.
00:07:42 Yeah, I have a tough time seeing it here.
00:07:45 And of course, the backdrop to this
00:07:47 being that Tatum and the Celtics have mostly been here before.
00:07:52 Kyrie aside, the Mavericks really haven't at this point.
00:07:56 And no 5 seed has ever won a final series.
00:07:58 And obviously, the odds are stacking up in a place
00:08:00 where this would be one of the biggest upsets ever
00:08:02 if the Celtics lost this final.
00:08:04 It's like you're talking 2011 Mavericks.
00:08:06 You're talking like some of the greatest upsets
00:08:09 we've seen in this kind of series,
00:08:10 like 2004 Pistons kind of thing.
00:08:13 So the expectations are big here for Boston, as they should be,
00:08:18 as they have been all year long.
00:08:20 And they've met them, right?
00:08:21 Like we've had our moments of frustration with them
00:08:23 at different circumstances.
00:08:25 And they've had a letdown here or there
00:08:27 that they've quickly recovered from,
00:08:28 especially in these playoffs.
00:08:30 So confidence should be high.
00:08:32 I'm not feeling huge nerves about this series.
00:08:36 There's some similarities to me to 2022.
00:08:39 And of course, I feel like we all
00:08:40 felt relatively good about them going into that series.
00:08:43 I think a lot of us picked them going into that series.
00:08:47 Dealing with Luke is going to be a lot like dealing with Kyrie,
00:08:49 and I mean, Curry in that series.
00:08:51 Like the way he's going to stretch them out,
00:08:53 the way he's going to put pressure on them.
00:08:55 You're going to have to live with some massive nights
00:08:57 from him and not get, as Joe Mazzullo talked
00:09:00 at practice a couple of days ago,
00:09:01 emotionally wrapped up in that.
00:09:03 Let it knock you out of your game plan.
00:09:05 He's just going to break them in ways
00:09:06 that they're going to have to persevere through.
00:09:10 And it might even be a loss or two
00:09:12 that he just completely delivers to them.
00:09:14 But to me, it's hard without the Celtics just completely
00:09:19 crumbling here, failing to meet the moment,
00:09:22 to imagine them losing four games to this team.
00:09:24 I think they're--
00:09:25 I know the defensive numbers are good over the late stages
00:09:27 of the season.
00:09:28 I don't see it from them just watching these games
00:09:31 that they've played against each other.
00:09:33 I think they're too vulnerable on that end, Dallas is.
00:09:36 I think the Celtics are too good on that end in their own right.
00:09:39 And there's just too many options on that Boston side.
00:09:42 Like if we're going to rank the 10 starters in the series,
00:09:46 like Derek Jones comes right in at the bottom.
00:09:49 You're putting like PJ Washington down there.
00:09:51 And the five Celtics starters are going
00:09:53 to be right up near the top.
00:09:54 So you're worried about Luka.
00:09:56 To some degree, you're worried about Kyrie.
00:09:58 But are you really worried about anyone else
00:10:00 on that Mavericks roster?
00:10:01 Meanwhile, the Celtics have problems everywhere
00:10:03 that Dallas has to deal with.
00:10:05 No, there's two things, right?
00:10:06 I'm with you, Bobby.
00:10:07 That's always the case.
00:10:08 And Bobby, I always say from the get-go,
00:10:09 it's like too much concern in Celtics Nation oftentimes
00:10:12 about what the other team might do that could pose
00:10:15 a challenge to you, as opposed to the Celtics
00:10:17 posing a challenge to everyone all the time,
00:10:20 no matter what they do.
00:10:21 And that's been the story with them all year.
00:10:25 And that's why they dominated the NBA most of the season.
00:10:29 My quick thought, I'll kick it back to Sherrod, is I think,
00:10:31 yeah, look, I think it's fair and reasonable to be confident
00:10:35 because the Celtics are an all-around better team.
00:10:38 I don't know where everyone started just pooping
00:10:40 their pants because the other team has two good players.
00:10:43 A lot of teams have two good players.
00:10:45 And I'm not diminishing how good these guys are.
00:10:48 I think Luka is 1 or 1A in the NBA, along with Jokic
00:10:52 and his ability to control every aspect of the game
00:10:55 on the offensive side of the ball.
00:10:57 But I just don't see--
00:10:59 I mean, they played Dallas twice.
00:11:00 And I'm not going to put too much stock into the results
00:11:03 because the Mavericks changed things around a good bit
00:11:05 post-trade deadline with their starting lineup.
00:11:08 But Kyrie and Luka went off for 62 points
00:11:11 exactly in each of those games.
00:11:13 And the Celtics won.
00:11:14 It's not a matter of those guys being good.
00:11:17 They are good.
00:11:18 The Celtics are considerably better,
00:11:20 I think, across the board.
00:11:21 So I think you're looking at two ways you lose this series.
00:11:24 Luka goes into absolute monster mode, which is possible,
00:11:29 and single-handedly does it in a heroic--
00:11:32 we'll be talking about this for a long time--
00:11:36 type of performance, which is absolutely possible.
00:11:39 But I also think he's hobbled and he's playing on one leg
00:11:42 right now, or maybe like half a leg.
00:11:44 Or number two, the shooting variance is just ridiculous
00:11:46 because the Celtics' huge advantage here
00:11:48 is they should be able to get shots and knock down shots.
00:11:52 And if they just go ice cold for an entire series,
00:11:56 yes, I could see that being a potential problem.
00:11:59 But I think it's hard to not be confident.
00:12:01 I think people are scared because you're this close
00:12:04 and you don't want to mess up at this point.
00:12:07 Like, you've made it this far, and so you're
00:12:09 freaking yourself out and finding things
00:12:11 to be worried about, where when the playoffs began,
00:12:14 if you looked at the 3, 4, 5 potential teams
00:12:16 the Celtics could face, I think you'd be like,
00:12:18 Dallas is the one they match up best
00:12:20 with, the one that's going to struggle
00:12:21 the most with the Celtics.
00:12:22 Ahead of OKC, ahead of Minnesota, ahead of Denver.
00:12:27 So I don't see it.
00:12:29 I mean, jeez, the Clippers were scary at least the one time
00:12:31 they played them.
00:12:33 So I don't know.
00:12:35 That's just my take.
00:12:36 No, I think, John, that makes a lot of sense.
00:12:39 But I wanted to just jump back really quick to the point
00:12:42 Bobby made about just similarities with the 22 team.
00:12:45 I think-- I just don't agree with that.
00:12:47 I think this team is dramatically
00:12:48 different in terms of not just the roster,
00:12:51 but just the mindset.
00:12:53 That 22 team, that was far and ground for them.
00:12:56 They really had no idea what they were walking into.
00:12:59 And as great as Steph Curry is, and he's
00:13:01 one of the greatest shooters we've ever seen,
00:13:04 Draymond Green was the difference in that series.
00:13:06 Draymond Green's ability to get into the head of the Celtics
00:13:09 was huge, and just their dismantling.
00:13:12 You look over at this Dallas team,
00:13:14 they don't have anyone even remotely close to that.
00:13:16 And when you take the fact that they don't have someone
00:13:19 who can play those mental Jedi mind tricks,
00:13:22 you don't have a deeper roster, you
00:13:24 don't have guys that are top tier talent
00:13:27 beyond the top two stars, there really
00:13:29 aren't a lot of paths to success,
00:13:31 as you can see, for the Dallas Mavericks.
00:13:34 I think that's one of the reasons why the Celtics seem
00:13:36 to be a little cooler and calmer going into this finals
00:13:40 than they were back then, because they know
00:13:42 they're the better team.
00:13:43 Golden State, they thought they were the better team.
00:13:46 They felt they were the better team,
00:13:48 but they really didn't know it.
00:13:49 This year, they absolutely know that.
00:13:50 And they weren't, sadly.
00:13:51 They weren't.
00:13:52 Exhaustion and injury factor that year, too.
00:13:55 The turnaround was like two days.
00:13:57 Rob was hurt.
00:13:59 Right.
00:13:59 And the Celtics, you've had the best record
00:14:02 of any team in this postseason run at 12 and 2.
00:14:04 And you've done that, for the most part,
00:14:06 without the one X factor that you went out
00:14:09 and got in the offseason to help you get here and get
00:14:12 past whoever you see in the finals.
00:14:14 So the Celtics have every reason in the world
00:14:16 to feel good about themselves by simply doing
00:14:19 what they are capable of doing.
00:14:21 They do that, this thing is over in very short fear.
00:14:24 Oh.
00:14:25 Oh.
00:14:25 Oh.
00:14:26 Oh.
00:14:26 Oh.
00:14:27 You know what, though?
00:14:28 No, he didn't want to come back.
00:14:28 I'm with Sherrod and Bobby so far.
00:14:30 I mean, I'm--
00:14:30 Yeah.
00:14:31 I said it.
00:14:31 If you're the Celtics, you've got
00:14:33 to feel confident going into this series.
00:14:35 And to their credit, everybody thought
00:14:37 they were going to roll in the first three series,
00:14:39 for the most part.
00:14:40 Not roll in the Pacers series.
00:14:42 John did have them in seven, famously, might I add.
00:14:45 My prediction about Pacers, that series going seven
00:14:48 was more accurate than everybody else's going five.
00:14:51 Biggest spin zone in the world, by the way.
00:14:53 Because it was challenging.
00:14:54 You guys were like, it's going to be a cakewalk.
00:14:56 It was freaking hard as hell.
00:14:57 No, I had them in six.
00:14:58 So I would argue that I was--
00:14:59 I think we're all saying it was going to be tough.
00:15:00 Yeah.
00:15:01 No, you weren't.
00:15:01 Anyways--
00:15:02 I was, but that's OK.
00:15:03 John was the most wrong, which is fine.
00:15:05 On paper, he was the most wrong.
00:15:07 That being said, the Celtics did take care of business
00:15:09 in that series.
00:15:10 And I think all of us feel similar in that we expect
00:15:13 them to take care of business.
00:15:14 We see the advantages that they have.
00:15:16 You guys have already laid a number of them out.
00:15:17 And I know that we'll probably dive in a little bit deeper.
00:15:20 But it comes down to talent in the NBA more than anything.
00:15:23 And credit to the Mavericks for getting this far,
00:15:25 because I don't think anybody thought
00:15:26 that they would get past some of the teams that they did.
00:15:29 But when you think about it, Luka Doncic
00:15:30 is arguably, what, top three player in the NBA?
00:15:33 Easily.
00:15:34 On any given night.
00:15:35 On any given night, he's the best player in the NBA.
00:15:36 So it's not crazy that they got here.
00:15:38 But when you do look at their depth,
00:15:40 you can understand where the Celtics have
00:15:43 their strength in numbers.
00:15:44 And so one through six, if Porzingis comes back,
00:15:47 one through six, they're going to be hard,
00:15:49 regardless of the combination of who's out there.
00:15:51 And you're going to probably have, what,
00:15:52 a seven-man rotation, maybe eight,
00:15:54 depending on how things are going.
00:15:56 Celtics are just going to keep coming.
00:16:01 It's their series to blow.
00:16:03 And it would be a massive blow if they did.
00:16:06 Well--
00:16:06 Because, I mean, it just shouldn't be--
00:16:09 it shouldn't be as close.
00:16:10 It'd be horrifying, other than one of the Js going down.
00:16:14 Something outrageous would have to happen.
00:16:16 Because I just-- again, if it's football and it's one game,
00:16:20 sure, any given Sunday.
00:16:21 But in a seven-game series, you are clearly the better team
00:16:25 here.
00:16:25 It's not even really that close.
00:16:27 And even if the Mavericks were able to steal a couple at home,
00:16:31 let's say, this should be a series that the Celtics should,
00:16:35 again, handle your business.
00:16:37 Just finish the job.
00:16:38 Get the hard hats out.
00:16:40 And just go to work.
00:16:42 And then you get your--
00:16:44 Do what you've done so far.
00:16:45 Do what you've done so far.
00:16:46 Yeah, but that's why it's so interesting for Luka, though.
00:16:49 Because he's not expected to win this.
00:16:51 So he's kind of going in there with nothing to lose.
00:16:53 And his first time in the finals,
00:16:55 I can't wait for it, man, honestly.
00:16:57 Because he is the best player in the series.
00:16:58 And I'm wondering how he's going to respond,
00:17:00 or how he's going to-- in front of Boston,
00:17:03 is the treatment that Kyrie's going to receive.
00:17:04 I think he's going to take that personally.
00:17:06 And it's going to be--
00:17:07 I don't know, man.
00:17:07 I think he's going to get a little chippy, you know,
00:17:10 just in terms of exchanging words.
00:17:12 I don't know.
00:17:12 I don't think they'll muck the game up.
00:17:14 But I think Luka's the kind of guy that will try to--
00:17:16 just as a natural competitor, will be mouthy, you know?
00:17:20 So it'll be fun.
00:17:20 It's going to be entertaining.
00:17:22 I hope the Celtics do what I don't think
00:17:23 Minnesota did enough of.
00:17:25 And that's go at Luka.
00:17:26 I mean, when you look at just what guys were shooting when
00:17:29 Luka was the primary defender in that series,
00:17:32 they shot Denver 60% when Luka was the primary defender.
00:17:36 And so for the Celtics, it's like, you know,
00:17:40 it's easy to envision a Derek White, a Drew Holley, someone
00:17:44 that maybe isn't one of the Jays having a big series.
00:17:47 Because they're going to--
00:17:48 This is a big Drew series.
00:17:49 Yeah.
00:17:49 I mean, if the Celtics are you-- and I anticipate seeing
00:17:52 Drew on Luka a lot, simply because Drew,
00:17:57 if we're being honest and candid,
00:17:58 Drew probably is one of, if not the strongest player
00:18:01 to NBA pound for pound.
00:18:03 And a lot of what Luka likes to do
00:18:04 is just he likes to play bully ball.
00:18:06 We've seen Joel Amid.
00:18:08 We've seen lots of big ass men try to play bully ball with Drew
00:18:13 and realize, oh, Drew's not having that.
00:18:15 I mean, do you remember when Miles Turner had the ball
00:18:17 on the block and Drew got on him?
00:18:19 And next thing you know, he's damn near out of bounds,
00:18:22 from catching it on the block initially
00:18:24 to being damn near out of bounds when Drew got on him.
00:18:28 Luka is-- Drew has a different kind of strength and physicality
00:18:31 that I think is going to make things tougher for Luka.
00:18:35 Luka's still going to get his points
00:18:36 because he's a hell of a player.
00:18:38 But it's not going to come easy.
00:18:40 And it's going to probably wear him down a little bit more
00:18:42 than he's used to.
00:18:44 So the Luka numbers aren't great for you to guard here.
00:18:47 He crushed White at 9-for-11 shooting
00:18:50 in the regular season.
00:18:51 5-for-8.
00:18:53 5-for-8 against Drew too, and the Heights
00:18:55 that thing with Drew there too.
00:18:56 So it's going to be a mixed bag.
00:18:58 I think--
00:18:59 You want to get Tatum on there on a pre-switch,
00:19:01 from time to time, I would say.
00:19:03 Or if Tatum's starting the 5 on that 1-5 pick and roll,
00:19:05 I think you're going to see Tatum jump onto there too.
00:19:08 I actually want to see Brown start out on Kyrie
00:19:10 to tell you the truth.
00:19:11 But--
00:19:12 OK, that's interesting.
00:19:13 Yeah.
00:19:13 I like that.
00:19:14 That's what I--
00:19:15 I love that.
00:19:16 I'd go White on Kyrie and a mix of Drew and Brown on Luka
00:19:20 just because you need the bigger bodies on him.
00:19:22 I'd let White just be a kind of-- White and Drew just
00:19:25 kind of roam around and just be everywhere.
00:19:27 You're going to do a little of everything.
00:19:29 There's no doubt here.
00:19:30 You will.
00:19:31 And obviously, Luka's going to pick his matchups
00:19:33 to some degree.
00:19:34 I don't know how early we want to get into the Porzingis stuff,
00:19:36 but that is like--
00:19:37 I think very early.
00:19:38 --the number one concern of mine.
00:19:40 I think it's the number one X factor.
00:19:42 We'll pivot to Porzingis next because I
00:19:43 think we're going to spend a fair amount of time on it
00:19:46 for sure.
00:19:47 And I want to hit on a couple other topics.
00:19:50 But before we dig deep on the Porzingis stuff,
00:19:53 I need to tell you guys about game time.
00:19:57 Oh boy.
00:19:59 Who needs a ticket to the finals here?
00:20:00 Raise your hand.
00:20:02 [LAUGHTER]
00:20:06 Thank you very much, Dylan.
00:20:09 Thank you.
00:20:12 Wow.
00:20:13 I guess it's all out there.
00:20:15 Wow.
00:20:15 I guess it's out there.
00:20:16 I will not be going to the finals
00:20:18 unlike everybody else in this room.
00:20:21 They said make it your own.
00:20:22 They said make it your own in the copy.
00:20:24 But anyway, we're excited about the NBA finals.
00:20:28 Game time makes getting NBA finals tickets easier and faster.
00:20:33 Prices on the game time app, as you know,
00:20:35 go down the closer it gets to tip off.
00:20:38 And game time is a ticket marketplace
00:20:41 where you can go out and check out and look
00:20:43 for those last minute seats.
00:20:45 All in prices, views from your seats, everything you have it.
00:20:48 Really super easy to use and to navigate.

00:20:58 Games one and two.

00:21:01 But as we said, the app's got a lot of different features
00:21:04 that you can get involved with.
00:21:06 Flash deals, zone deals.
00:21:07 You want to get in on MLB tickets, sure.
00:21:10 Check that out as well.
00:21:12 Yeah, panoramic views from your seats

00:21:46 You absolutely, absolutely want to take advantage
00:21:51 of this special offer from Game Time, as we said.
00:21:55 Download that app today.
00:21:56 So guys, let's get into it.
00:21:57 I think we mentioned it here and we saw a little bit earlier
00:22:00 in the show, but poor Zengis.
00:22:03 There he is.
00:22:04 He was practicing.
00:22:06 We saw it, Bobby.
00:22:08 So here was our reaction, right?
00:22:11 Looks good to me.
00:22:13 OK.
00:22:14 Look, we saw it.
00:22:16 He didn't do much.
00:22:18 As you see, he's walking.
00:22:20 There wasn't much jogging.
00:22:22 And we're like, OK, whatever.
00:22:24 I went back and I looked at some B-roll of other three-point
00:22:27 kind of warm-ups.
00:22:28 It actually looked fairly similar.
00:22:30 This is just kind of his motion.
00:22:31 But again, a lot of walking around, not a lot of bouncing,
00:22:34 not a lot of spring.
00:22:35 How much of this is straight up gamesmanship?
00:22:38 Maybe a good bit.
00:22:40 But again, we didn't see him do anything, which we don't always
00:22:45 get to see him do.
00:22:47 But what was really encouraging, Bobby,
00:22:49 was when Joe Mazzulla said, well,
00:22:51 he did everything the team did on day two, not this day.
00:22:55 The next day, we didn't see Porzingis out there.
00:22:57 But he said he did everything the team did.
00:22:59 And it was a light day.
00:23:00 And then they said he was going to be a full go the next day,
00:23:03 which media did not have access to.
00:23:05 So we haven't gotten a chance to see him.
00:23:08 I would not be surprised if he talks tomorrow and kind of
00:23:12 declares himself in.
00:23:14 Or Wednesday, he definitely will at the media day.
00:23:16 So we're going to hear from him in a minute.
00:23:18 I wouldn't be shocked.
00:23:18 But I think it's coming.
00:23:19 And I wasn't entirely sure.
00:23:21 And now I feel a little bit better about it.
00:23:23 So I'm not worried about him playing anymore.
00:23:25 I think that's all but done.
00:23:27 Like, he's going to be out there Thursday.
00:23:29 But how often is he going to be out there?
00:23:32 How effective is he?
00:23:34 And then, of course, there's always
00:23:35 the risk of the aggravation there,
00:23:37 like it coming back, given where he's at in the recovery there.
00:23:41 So that, to me, is the single biggest swing fact
00:23:43 in this series.
00:23:44 If he's out there and he's not effective,
00:23:46 that suddenly derails what you're doing as boss.
00:23:49 And it's not a bonus.
00:23:50 It's actually a hindrance having him out there
00:23:52 in a matchup like this, where they're going to go at him
00:23:54 and try to involve him in actions and make a move and all that.
00:23:57 He was so good in that last matchup against them.
00:24:00 So if he's any version close to himself,
00:24:03 you're suddenly talking about like a five game series at this point.
00:24:07 So it's crazy how that could swing in either direction.
00:24:09 Like if he's four threes and two, three blocks Porzingis,
00:24:13 Dallas is screwed.
00:24:15 Not just that, it's the matchups, because what you're bringing
00:24:17 Dallas is bigs out of the paint, you know, having to defend him
00:24:20 out on the perimeter like you can go double big like this.
00:24:23 So much you can do.
00:24:24 It changes everything like.
00:24:26 But if he's struggling, John, and Luke is going at him
00:24:29 and suddenly he's got a couple of fouls and you're like, oh,
00:24:31 we can't play Porzingis.
00:24:33 That's a tough spot for Joe, right?
00:24:35 Because Joe doesn't like to pull these guys.
00:24:36 Joe doesn't like to, you know, kind of shake up the rotation
00:24:39 of something's not working.
00:24:40 We haven't seen him in that spot.
00:24:42 And I agree.
00:24:43 Dudley puts it up here.
00:24:44 I don't know that the presence is enough because a bad Porzingis,
00:24:46 as Bobby said, might he might leave him out there
00:24:49 and you don't have time to figure it out.
00:24:52 Go ahead.
00:24:52 It would shock me if we don't if we don't see him in game one, you know.
00:24:54 But go ahead. Really?
00:24:55 I expect to see him in game one.
00:24:57 But and the thing about it is he doesn't have to put up
00:25:00 Porzingis like numbers to be impactful.
00:25:02 The lanes that his presence is going to create, the fact that there's going
00:25:05 to be better spacing because he's out there, that is going to be the
00:25:08 I think the biggest benefit for him being out there.
00:25:11 And if worse comes to worse and you can't play him as much as you want to.
00:25:15 What do you do?
00:25:16 You turn to Al Horford, who you just won a series with,
00:25:19 with Al playing great basketball and playing closer to the Al
00:25:23 that was a full time starter than the Al Horford
00:25:26 that has been coming off the bench most of the season.
00:25:28 So if you're the Celtics and you're Joe Mazzola, you're going to play Porzingis
00:25:32 as long as he's able to give you something of positive significance,
00:25:36 whether it is being able to hold his own on those those pick and roll switches,
00:25:40 which, you know, Dallas is going to try to do,
00:25:41 or whether he's going to give you the kind of spacing
00:25:44 that will allow a Tatum, a Brown, a Derek White, a Drew Holiday
00:25:47 to make an impact offensively, because to me, I don't expect Porzingis
00:25:51 to put up big numbers, but I do expect him to make a big impact
00:25:54 because of what he's going to allow those other guys to do
00:25:57 that they weren't necessarily as it wasn't as easy for them to do that
00:26:01 in previous series because he wasn't out there.
00:26:03 If he's not out there at all, like, you know, just what I mentioned for game
00:26:09 one there, but for the thick of the series, it does get a little more complicated,
00:26:13 too, though.
00:26:14 I mean, the big man matchup in this series is a real deal.
00:26:16 Like Gafford only played five minutes in that last game.
00:26:19 Yeah, that they played.
00:26:20 And Jones is still coming off the bench at that point.
00:26:22 And he's Gafford's changed a lot for them.
00:26:24 Gafford's a force.
00:26:26 Lively is excellent.
00:26:28 And those are really physical guys that beat up on Chet in that Thunder series
00:26:31 perform well in the last years against Minnesota.
00:26:35 They're lobbed machines.
00:26:36 The Celtics haven't guarded the pick and roll great in these playoffs.
00:26:39 So it's it's the matchup in this series, right?
00:26:43 There's going to be a lot of talk about the backcourt for sure.
00:26:45 And rightfully so.
00:26:47 But the center matchup to me is really interesting here,
00:26:50 just based on what the Celtics are able to get out of theirs,
00:26:53 because if Porzingis is out there again, what kind of Porzingis are you getting?
00:26:56 If it's just Al is shrouded in, you know, just way mentioned there.
00:27:00 This is a tough one for Al, especially a thirty five,
00:27:03 forty minute kind of game for Alders, bigger layoffs between the games
00:27:06 in the series. Right.
00:27:07 But Al's gotten hit hard.
00:27:09 I think he's given up 47 percent shooting
00:27:11 when teams go at him in these playoffs and the pick and roll in particular
00:27:15 has been a challenge for him against teams that have much less firepower in it.
00:27:19 Offensive rebounding to the Mavericks actually have like a significant
00:27:22 offensive rebounding advantage here, at least members wise.
00:27:26 So I'm watching those centers.
00:27:28 Lively's only 20. But damn, is he good.
00:27:30 Gafford guys averaging like two blocks a game in these playoffs.
00:27:33 And you're going to see those crowds against Tatum.
00:27:36 You see it in the film like they're going to pile up on him with those guys.
00:27:40 They have three big bodies in the front court now.
00:27:42 So how do you deal with that?
00:27:43 You need Porzingis here, I think not to win, but to win comfortably.
00:27:49 If you don't have Porzingis or some version close to Porzingis here,
00:27:54 you're talking like six, seven games in the series, I think.
00:27:58 Like it's that big of a swing.
00:27:59 Oh, no, it's closer to a coin flip without Porzingis or without an effective
00:28:02 Porzingis at all.
00:28:04 I don't think anyone was expecting to not at all.
00:28:07 I think it's silly now.
00:28:08 But I mean, whether it's at all play, but not effective play, limited minutes
00:28:13 play, but reaggravate anything that involves it's like on a sliding scale.
00:28:18 I'm being there. Yeah, there's a lot of different,
00:28:20 you know, versions that you can get off of Porzingis, which changes the.
00:28:25 And I don't think you're playing
00:28:27 Cornett and Tillman in this series at all.
00:28:28 I don't even think you're playing Hauser.
00:28:30 Yeah, but I don't think you should.
00:28:31 Bobby, I don't think that must have hurt for you.
00:28:35 I don't think it should be.
00:28:37 Oh, you're OK, Bobby.
00:28:38 You worried about Al Horford?
00:28:39 It's the final. Come on.
00:28:40 He's done his job.
00:28:42 He gets what he gets.
00:28:43 What what Luke gets is the Brian Scalabrini
00:28:46 press conference at the end where he gets to come out shit plastered
00:28:52 and just get to the podium and just say, I'm here.
00:28:57 And who knows how much I played?
00:28:59 If they win it all, Cornett needs a podium appearance.
00:29:01 It would be a dereliction of duty by PR to not send them there.
00:29:05 Yeah, exactly. Bobby will build a podium for him.
00:29:08 If there won't be a podium.
00:29:09 There's going to be a one on one regardless to Shara.
00:29:12 There will be a little Cornet podium built by Bobby, powered by Bobby Manning.
00:29:16 Here we go. So let me ask you guys this.
00:29:19 Are you imagining right now, like, is it in your brain,
00:29:23 like Tatum lifting the trophy like is that where your confidence is that
00:29:27 like you're starting to imagine like this team, like actually getting this done?
00:29:30 Because that's where I'm trying to get to.
00:29:32 I haven't imagined it, but I mean, it's been
00:29:34 it's been like the driving thought from day one.
00:29:37 That's why my preview I had the Celtics winning over the Denver Nuggets in the finals.
00:29:41 I've as much as they've fluctuated this year, I've never lost faith
00:29:46 that they can win this championship because they at the beginning of the season,
00:29:50 they look like the best team throughout the season.
00:29:52 They look like the best team.
00:29:53 And now that there's only two teams left and I'm looking at who they're playing,
00:29:56 they still look like the best team.
00:29:58 So I haven't had to adjust that.
00:30:00 I mean, the only thing that's a little bit interesting now, though,
00:30:03 and you kind of touched on it, there is who's going to be that guy?
00:30:08 Who's going to be the MVP?
00:30:10 Is it Tatum? Is it Brown?
00:30:12 Will it be Luca in a losing effort?
00:30:14 That that really ever that's I think it's only happened with Jerry West.
00:30:17 You think that Jerry West is going to play?
00:30:20 I mean, Luca's that damn good, though.
00:30:21 I mean, he's really that good.
00:30:23 I could see Luca having like a 45, 50 point game and they lose.
00:30:25 I could totally see that.
00:30:27 How great would that be?
00:30:29 That would be wild.
00:30:31 Yeah, the Luca versus Luc matchup is going to be something, though.
00:30:34 I man, I wasn't even thinking about that, Sherrod.
00:30:39 The Celtics winning and Luca getting MVP.
00:30:42 It was I was thinking about it would be something.
00:30:45 But Jaylin could pull it off again.
00:30:47 Yeah, I don't think about a lot of good.
00:30:49 We'll have a lot of spot shadows on ESPN coverage of Jason Tatum
00:30:53 when that happens.
00:30:54 So let's talk to him.
00:30:56 Full investigation.
00:30:57 What do they need?
00:30:58 Will he be happier for Luca or Brown?
00:31:00 Oh, stop, Jerry.
00:31:03 What did the Celtics need, Jimmy, in this series from Tatum?
00:31:09 Like numbers wise or just what type of player do they need?
00:31:14 What type of player?
00:31:15 Bobby, what the hell are you asking me?
00:31:16 That's what Jimmy just said to you.
00:31:18 No, that's what he said.
00:31:18 No, I know.
00:31:20 Well, like, listen, I'm not going to say they need 30 points and 10 rebounds
00:31:23 and eight assists, but I just think they need a guy who's.
00:31:26 Yeah, that would be great. Let's do that.
00:31:29 But I think a guy that's more balanced offensively,
00:31:32 the defense is goes without saying Jason Tatum has to play two ways.
00:31:36 He's a great two way player when he wants to be.
00:31:39 But I don't want to see Tatum settling for the jumpers.
00:31:42 I want to see him aggressive.
00:31:43 I want to see him post up more than he has been recently.
00:31:46 I want to see him in his bag a little bit going to the hoop.
00:31:49 And if that means being more physical, getting listen, if if
00:31:53 if Dallas is a two headed monster, which they are,
00:31:57 then do whatever you can to get to get physical with those two guys
00:32:00 in some capacity, get them in foul trouble, knock them on their
00:32:03 knock them on their on their butts.
00:32:04 You know, I don't want to see the step back fade away.
00:32:07 I don't. I mean, sure.
00:32:09 One at once in a while, they're going to fall.
00:32:12 But this is a great question.
00:32:13 How much pressure is there on Jason Tatum?
00:32:14 I think there's a ton of pressure on Jason Tatum.
00:32:16 Well, two things.
00:32:17 One, the chat, you guys are killing me.
00:32:19 Like, you know, we I just get lame.
00:32:23 I get murdered for for not being positive enough.
00:32:27 And we're like, I like the Celtics in this matchup
00:32:29 and trying to give honest analysis for why.
00:32:31 And everyone's like, shut up, guys.
00:32:33 The jinx is in. Shut up, you losers.
00:32:37 Number two, doubling down on what Jimmy said,
00:32:40 because I think that's the key to all of it.
00:32:42 I think it's been the key to Jason Tatum from like day one.
00:32:45 It's like at some point
00:32:47 he has to kind of wake up one day and just be like,
00:32:49 I don't need to cook, you know, like I saw
00:32:53 somebody drop in the chat earlier like,
00:32:55 oh, hope a Tatum 50 pieces incoming.
00:32:58 I don't I don't want to see that.
00:33:00 I don't want to see that means everyone else is standing around.
00:33:03 I don't want Tatum to feel like it's a him versus Luca
00:33:08 in my legacy moment and try to try to like rise to the occasion.
00:33:14 You know, like I don't want to hate him.
00:33:17 I don't do what I don't know.
00:33:21 I think Luca's going to make it like that.
00:33:23 I was around earlier.
00:33:24 A little bit just wait.
00:33:25 We joked about that with Jalen earlier.
00:33:27 I don't think Jalen Jason has anything against Brown winning MVP.
00:33:32 I thought that was silly, but I do believe it's possible that he's like,
00:33:35 that's supposed to be me, right?
00:33:37 Like, I'm the guy. Aren't I the guy?
00:33:39 Why are you guys asking me if that guy's the guy?
00:33:41 I'm the guy.
00:33:42 Aren't I supposed to be?
00:33:43 And like the feeling that like that's his job, you know, not out of ego per se.
00:33:48 And kind of like, I'm that guy.
00:33:50 I'm supposed to do that.
00:33:51 It's me versus Luca.
00:33:52 I'm I want to be face of the league.
00:33:54 I'm kind of.
00:33:55 That's why my question is like, who does he need to be?
00:33:57 I think that's been like a constant question throughout these playoffs.
00:34:01 But you know, you're saying all that, but real quick,
00:34:04 I don't think he has the.
00:34:08 Like the mental makeup is a match, doesn't match him saying that
00:34:11 just based on what I see from Tatum over the years, he's more reserved.
00:34:15 He's way more reserved guy
00:34:18 than a guy that goes into takeover mode.
00:34:21 Yeah, it'll happen from time to time.
00:34:22 But I wish that I saw it.
00:34:24 I wish that I saw what you said more often at him.
00:34:27 I kind of want like a more aggressive, you know, takeover mode Tatum.
00:34:31 Not again, not in the sense where it's just difficult step back jumpers, but.
00:34:35 You know, you can go down, you can like you can think about some of the great
00:34:40 NBA players right now that have done it and take it take over.
00:34:43 I'm not saying that he's that these players are better than Tatum,
00:34:45 but they have that little switch like a Brunson.
00:34:48 We've seen it with Luca, obviously.
00:34:50 We've seen it with, you know, even Anthony Edwards this year on some moments
00:34:53 like these guys have been able to do that.
00:34:56 And obviously, Edwards had a really horrible, you know, playoff stretch there.
00:34:59 So, but I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't necessarily get that vibe from him.
00:35:03 I almost get the vibe that he is willing to take a backseat
00:35:07 sometimes too soon within a game.
00:35:10 See, I think Tatum has figured out more than I think he gets credit for
00:35:15 what he has to do to win games.
00:35:16 I mean, Tatum can score any and every time damn near he wants to out there.
00:35:20 He's that good a player.
00:35:21 He can give points every night.
00:35:23 But he, let's put it this way, John.
00:35:26 Anytime he steps on the floor, anytime he steps on the floor,
00:35:30 Tatum can get you 30.
00:35:32 He gets you 30.
00:35:33 Yeah, but depending on how many shots he does, he doesn't have to.
00:35:36 Unlike the other guys that Jim mentioned.
00:35:38 He's figured out that's not always going to win.
00:35:41 That's why he's getting you 5, 6, 7 assists and getting you 12, 13 rebounds.
00:35:45 He's figuring out how to do.
00:35:46 The one thing he does that pisses me off, though,
00:35:48 the one thing that he does is sometimes he is a little bit too
00:35:52 deferential to his teammates where he will just start passing, passing, passing.
00:35:57 And you realize he's got four turnovers.
00:35:59 He's got seven assists and he's got five points
00:36:01 when he could have had 10, 12 points, maybe three assists and maybe one turnover.
00:36:06 If he just his ability to recognize when to be aggressive
00:36:10 as a scorer, when to be aggressive as a distributor.
00:36:13 Sometimes he seems to get his wires crossed.
00:36:16 It's a shot selection.
00:36:18 Yeah. But overall, though, I mean, I think he other than his three point shooting,
00:36:21 I think he's had a pretty good postseason run thus far.
00:36:24 But isn't it also the style of play and the fact that they are deep,
00:36:27 that it's hard for one guy to just differentiate,
00:36:31 separate himself from the rest of the pack?
00:36:34 I mean, that's kind of the point. Yeah.
00:36:36 So that's what great teams.
00:36:37 That's what makes you a great team.
00:36:39 Again, we talk about that takes the pressure off Tatum.
00:36:41 But yeah, it's not going to it's not going to show up on the statute,
00:36:44 but kind of takes the pressure off him a little bit.
00:36:46 Well, I think that I think there's a tad.
00:36:47 There's a little bit of a disservice to the to the whole like,
00:36:51 well, Tatum's the one and Browns is number two.
00:36:54 And then these guys are complimentary because that changes that
00:36:57 that doesn't jive with, you know, what they've been doing all year,
00:37:01 which is like, hey, it could be anybody who's the who's the guy.
00:37:04 You go back to 2008.
00:37:06 Again, you look year over year, KG, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce,
00:37:10 all of their shot attempts and their usage the year before playing
00:37:14 when they were the only guy on their team doing that was significant.
00:37:17 Those guys dropped to like 15, 16, 14 shots each that year
00:37:21 were far more where it's like it really wasn't like, yeah,
00:37:26 Pierce was the default alpha from having been there.
00:37:29 But like it really felt like these were equal parts, all playing different roles,
00:37:33 all doing different things.
00:37:35 I don't think you need this world with a top score.
00:37:37 Has to be your number one and defer to him in this net.
00:37:41 And as we saw that game against, you know, the game
00:37:44 one against Indiana, when Jalen Brown saves their ass.
00:37:47 Hey, Joe drew it up for Jalen.
00:37:49 That wasn't something that would have happened
00:37:53 earlier in the year in Joe's rookie year, for sure.
00:37:55 So, yeah, I don't think I think when you free your mind
00:38:01 and you don't view Tatum as that as that number one guy,
00:38:03 the problem is in the difference with the series is Luca is that super alpha
00:38:08 who when things are going bad, you put the ball in his hands,
00:38:11 get out of the way, and he does literally everything Tatum,
00:38:14 though it's going to grieve people to hear this isn't that guy like it's he's different.
00:38:18 You know, like there's not that many of them.
00:38:21 Luca is one of them.
00:38:22 And so there's the kind of differences like if you're going bucket for bucket
00:38:26 and this and that, sometimes you are going to put it in Tatum's hands
00:38:29 and just kind of let him do whatever he does.
00:38:31 And it's, you know, sometimes mixed results.
00:38:34 Celtics have been great in the clutch down the stretch,
00:38:36 so you can't argue with how it's gone there.
00:38:38 But I think that gives people a little bit of trepidation there
00:38:40 involving Tatum in his game and just kind of taking it on himself to to be the guy.
00:38:46 Yeah, and you've seen in moments from him this postseason,
00:38:50 he can get to the line, he can attack off the drive, he can score in traffic.
00:38:55 Like those are all things you want to see him do here.
00:38:57 And it is sometimes a shot selection.
00:39:00 It's the commitment to defense.
00:39:02 It's those little things that he needs to stay involved with.
00:39:06 And of course, in this series, too, I know I was talking to,
00:39:09 you know, one of the Mavs guys last night, Kirk Henderson.
00:39:11 He's saying that.
00:39:12 The refs aren't calling fouls on Dallas in these playoffs
00:39:15 and it frustrated Minnesota, it frustrated the Thunder fans.
00:39:19 So does that continue here?
00:39:21 And is there like an officiating element here, too,
00:39:23 because that's obviously something you look at with him?
00:39:25 I think we all know he's capable of doing the other stuff when he's not scoring.
00:39:30 But the efficiency, I think, Jimmy, you mentioned it like how many shots
00:39:34 has it taken him to get what he needs?
00:39:36 Is he wasting shots? Is he wasting possessions?
00:39:39 This is going to be a close series with a lot of close games.
00:39:42 Like I think our confidence in the Celtics winning it
00:39:45 isn't necessarily saying that Dallas has no chance here in the Celtics.
00:39:49 You're just going to blow them away.
00:39:51 There's going to be a lot of close games here
00:39:52 and there's going to be a lot of games for Luke outplays Tatum.
00:39:54 So like Joe was talking about,
00:39:57 this isn't a series where Tatum has to be better than Luca.
00:40:00 This isn't a series where the Celtics have to stop Luca and Kyrie.
00:40:03 This is a series where the Celtics have to keep doing everything
00:40:06 that they've been doing to this point.
00:40:07 And it's just going to make it a little bit easier on themselves
00:40:09 if Tatum can get to some high percentage shots, if he can get to
00:40:13 or, you know, cut out some shots that are a little too difficult.
00:40:16 Because listen, if you're under 30 percent from three,
00:40:19 you're taking too many difficult threes.
00:40:21 If you're, you know, launching fadeaways and stuff that's taken away from,
00:40:25 you know, I was looking last night, John, he was so good in the post
00:40:28 during the regular season.
00:40:29 And I think he's down to like the 60th percentile or something like that.
00:40:33 I've all the post players in the playoffs, so he's taken a hit
00:40:36 efficiency wise across the board here.
00:40:38 And I think a lot of that is just making it too hard on himself.
00:40:42 And this is another series like it's not going to get easier here.
00:40:44 They're going to crowd the lane.
00:40:46 They're going to send two guys at him.
00:40:48 They're going to put big bodies on him.
00:40:50 So if you're thinking it's going to be easy here from the score
00:40:55 and go out there and do what he needs to do from a points perspective,
00:40:58 it's just not going to be the case.
00:40:59 And fortunately, his playmakings come so far.
00:41:02 He's not turning the ball over.
00:41:04 He's been that level of a defender at times here.
00:41:07 Just it has to continue.
00:41:09 This is going to be a mental battle for Boston in this series.
00:41:12 Like Luca going off, Tatum struggling with aggressive defenses against him.
00:41:17 They have to do the little things over and over and over again here.
00:41:20 That's what's going to decide this series for Boston.
00:41:24 Their death is going to decide it, because you already said it.
00:41:28 Luca can be better than Tatum.
00:41:29 To me, when it comes down to it, he's going to go to what's got him here,
00:41:33 you know, and that's making sure everyone else is involved.
00:41:36 And to me, this commitment to the defensive end of the floor has been huge.
00:41:41 You know, the game three Tatum, we get that version of the guy
00:41:44 that played against the Pacers, you know, especially in the second half
00:41:46 when you dealt in, focused, efficient, committed to the defensive end of the floor.
00:41:51 I think that's the version we're going to see mostly throughout the final.
00:41:54 You're right, defensively, Brown, as John said, can take Kyrie out of this Tatum
00:41:59 and the big moments is he on is he on Luca transition?
00:42:03 Yeah, I like it.
00:42:04 His his ISO defending stats have not been terrific this postseason,
00:42:08 but I think that's because nobody was prepared for Neb Hart.
00:42:12 And I'm not kidding.
00:42:14 You mean MJ?
00:42:16 And he cooked everybody.
00:42:17 It was unbelievable.
00:42:18 MJ, Jimmy, get it right.
00:42:19 Michael Jordan.
00:42:20 Right, right.
00:42:21 Right, right. Seriously, that's who he was talking about.
00:42:24 Right. Neb Hart ate him up.
00:42:26 That was that was out of this world where he did.
00:42:29 Yeah, it was. Yeah.
00:42:32 And naturally, they make him the inbounder and like the must must score situation.
00:42:36 That was a head scratcher for me.
00:42:38 Yeah. Yeah.
00:42:41 We even talked about like, oh, shiny moments.
00:42:44 No, it was. But we haven't even talked.
00:42:46 We mentioned his name briefly, but Drew Holiday is going to be the difference
00:42:49 maker in this series because Jake.
00:42:51 Yeah, I do. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I think Luke is going to guard Drew
00:42:55 and Drew will guard Luca for the series.
00:42:59 Well, then if that's the case, then we'll know.
00:43:03 We'll know if whether or not he was effective or not, if Luca ends up going off.
00:43:07 But Holiday usually does pretty well against the bigger guys, the bigger guards.
00:43:12 It's the little guys that that zip all around sometimes when he's when he's.
00:43:16 Hey, be careful.
00:43:19 I'm just I'm just saying that the shifty or guards, the shifty ones.
00:43:24 But that shit gets us in trouble.
00:43:25 That gets that gets charade yelled at.
00:43:27 So careful. What happened?
00:43:29 I'm just going to joke.
00:43:31 Yeah, you are.
00:43:32 Oh, well, it's OK.
00:43:34 That's what when I called out.
00:43:35 Jimmy, you're smart enough to figure that out.
00:43:38 Jimmy, you're smart enough to figure that out.
00:43:40 I didn't know that. I didn't know that.
00:43:41 They're called Marcus.
00:43:42 I told I said Marcus struggles with shifty guards.
00:43:45 Oh, and he's attributed it to charade.
00:43:48 And he told charade to go after himself on the guy.
00:43:50 Do you recall? I do recall what he said.
00:43:53 Holiday telling the guard report.
00:43:54 If he would be something that would be awesome.
00:43:57 But he wouldn't do that because we are we are big holiday guys here
00:44:01 and just having him on the team again and white.
00:44:05 Those two those two guards are going to make things so much more difficult
00:44:08 for the Mavericks.
00:44:09 Where again, it's like fine.
00:44:10 You want to take Tatum out of the game or you want to take Brown out of the game?
00:44:13 Go for it. But the Celtics can just come with you come at you with numbers.
00:44:17 Whereas Dallas can't so you can go tit for tat with the two best guys,
00:44:21 but the Celtics are going to three four five six.
00:44:24 It's not even close.
00:44:26 You know, I'm assuming for zing is his back and again,
00:44:28 he doesn't even have to be I'm not assuming him back at 100% but out in the court,
00:44:34 you know making things as difficult as he possibly can be in a presence.
00:44:37 Obviously an upgrade over any of the other bigs that would be on the court at that time.
00:44:41 Sorry Bobby, but I just I go back to having those players this year
00:44:46 because that was what they were lacking the last couple seasons is that additional help.
00:44:50 That's why I find Luka can be better than Tatum.
00:44:53 He can be because the Celtics got that additional reinforcement this year.
00:44:57 They got the holiday.
00:44:58 They got the poor zing is you know, they got an elevated Brown.
00:45:01 They got an elevated white.
00:45:03 I mean, they're they're they're just a much much more difficult team to beat one through three.
00:45:08 Much much more difficult team to beat one through five or one through six.
00:45:13 So that's why I feel like there is less pressure on Tatum.
00:45:15 He might have put pressure on himself to reach these certain Plateaus,
00:45:19 but he has more help than he's ever had and more help than he ever will have
00:45:24 and that goes for Brown as well.
00:45:27 Yeah, and they've got the benefit of experience.
00:45:29 They notice like to be here and come up short
00:45:31 and there's no way that you can replicate with that pain
00:45:36 and frustration and level of being pissed off feels like and and they don't want to go through that again,
00:45:40 especially this year when they're coming in as the clear undeniable favorites.
00:45:47 Whereas couple years ago, you know, it was kind of a coin toss.
00:45:51 I mean you could make you could have made a legitimate case either for either team being the better squad,
00:45:56 but that is not the case this time around.
00:45:58 Boston is clearly the better team going into this finals and they know it and Dallas knows it too.
00:46:04 It's certainly you know a chip on the shoulder of the Mavericks that they're going to try
00:46:08 and use as added fuel and motivation.
00:46:10 And if you're the Celtics you've been dealing with this kind of expectation all season long
00:46:15 where you play teams that you know are going to give you their best shot
00:46:19 because they see you as the standard for which greatness in this league is based on
00:46:24 because you had the best record you had the easiest path to get to the finals.
00:46:28 You have the best postseason record of teams, you know competing this year.
00:46:33 So if you're the Celtics this really isn't that dramatically different than the pressure
00:46:39 that you had to deal with from opponents during the regular season.
00:46:42 The stakes are obviously higher but that pressure nonetheless is very very comparable.
00:46:47 Yeah. All right. We're going to continue on.
00:46:48 We want to tell you guys about another one of our sponsors here at the Garden Report
00:46:53 and that of course is prize picks.
00:46:56 You got to get yourself some prize picks.

00:47:18 Right now, John, they're also offering point by point.
00:47:20 I know, Bobby. I'm going to get there. I got to get there.
00:47:22 I got to get there. I got to get there. I got to get there.
00:47:24 I got the whole thing scripted.
00:47:27 I'm just that excited about it.
00:47:29 And I'm getting there. What is Bobby doing to me?
00:47:32 I'm just that excited about it. I already got it loaded up.
00:47:34 Sorry, John.
00:47:35 Always action on prize picks.
00:47:37 Even when basketball winds down, you can get into other stuff.
00:47:40 We don't need to worry about that. Let's focus on the finals here.
00:47:43 And as we said, all you have to do here to get in on the action.
00:47:47 Bobby, you want to read the CTA?
00:47:50 Yeah, might as well. Might as well.
00:47:53 Do it. Download the app.
00:47:56 Yeah, download the app. Pick two players.
00:47:59 Pick more or less than their projections. And you're off.
00:48:01 You can pick up six. No, no, no, no. That's not the CTA.
00:48:04 Okay, the CTA is. Download the app.
00:48:07 Oh, now he's shy. Now he's shy.
00:48:12 And you get a deposit match up to what? 100.
00:48:18 This is like when Pops calls out that one sibling.
00:48:21 Download the app. Use the code CLNS. First deposit match up to 100.
00:48:25 And that's all you have to do. Pick more. Pick less. It is that easy.
00:48:29 And Bobby, there's a special here. Look at that.
00:48:33 Yeah. Can Tatum score one point? Do you believe in him?
00:48:39 Bobby, you got to tell people more than that. That's all he's going to do.
00:48:41 Come on, guys. Don't miss that on this. You got to explain it.
00:48:44 It's a free square prize picks his offering. It's a freebie.
00:48:48 It's just you automatically get that you can add that to your roster of things.
00:48:53 And you're basically have one down as long as Tatum scores one point more than point five.
00:48:59 That's where wins. When you're picking two players, three players,
00:49:02 you automatically got one in the bag, assuming Tatum scores at least one point.
00:49:09 And that's all you have to do there. So that's a gimme automatic.
00:49:13 And you know, and that's big. They usually have him like 30.
00:49:16 It's just when I know which is tough to get to.
00:49:19 Yeah, there it is. Been there the whole playoff.
00:49:24 Look what you did. Bobby, where are we going from here?
00:49:28 Yeah, Bobby, what's next? Spin the wheel, Bobby.
00:49:30 How have we gone 50 minutes without talking about Kyrie Irving?
00:49:34 Thank you. Thank you. Well, I can't get you getting at Jimmy.
00:49:39 You bore me. This is Jimmy's. This is Jimmy's. Jimmy's a special.
00:49:44 Oh, here's why it bores me to John. Yeah, I think so.
00:49:47 Oh, you guys are just better than everybody. No, we can't.
00:49:50 We can't ignore it because it's going to happen.
00:49:52 It's going to be part of the atmosphere.
00:49:54 Oh, it's good. I said at the top, it's going to be a factor.
00:49:57 Yeah, you know, here's a thing. Kumbaya instead.
00:50:00 Let's here's my biggest fear. Just saying Kumbaya.
00:50:04 Here's my biggest funny. Get the sarcastic cheers.
00:50:07 Obviously Kyrie's lost 10 straight to Boston.
00:50:10 So the atmosphere, the crowd, all that you don't worry about it,
00:50:13 getting him going and having him reach a level where he beats them.
00:50:17 But does Luke internalize it? Does Luke embrace it?
00:50:20 The hate? Does he start to try to clap back at the crowd and defend Kyrie?
00:50:24 Because we saw what happened in game five at Minnesota.
00:50:27 He found that one fan with a handkerchief
00:50:31 and he just unloaded on the Wolves all night and just kept looking at him.
00:50:35 So is Luke are going to have Kyrie's back in that one?
00:50:37 We know the crowd's going to be all over him.
00:50:40 Well, that's what he came for. He wants all the smoke.
00:50:42 And that's what I can't wait to see how he responds to it overall.
00:50:46 Of course, what Kyrie's going to do because I think it's going to get under his skin.
00:50:49 It happened last time. I think NBA finals. He won't react the same way.
00:50:53 I don't think he'll be flipping the bird. You know, I think he's a he's in a much better place.
00:50:58 Oh, yeah, he's Kyrie's got everything right.
00:51:00 He's the best guy in the world. I was going to say as the narrative has been all season,
00:51:03 John, however, I mean naturally in that moment,
00:51:07 he's going to be in his feelings. You're going to be in your feelings.
00:51:09 He's not going to be an asshole for one year and then everybody forgets.
00:51:12 Well, this was that year, John. This is that year.
00:51:14 And look good for him on board with Kyrie.
00:51:17 I but this is afterthought to me. Well, play the clip.
00:51:22 No, you can't you can't say that coming off of that series.
00:51:25 You just can't play the clip. Let's go.
00:51:27 In kind of the emotions now or being aware of what it's going to be like,
00:51:33 you know, we call it animosity. We call it hate. We call it recall.
00:51:36 It was going to be hell in Boston. I mean, this guy,
00:51:40 there are real life circumstances going on in the world that are bigger.
00:51:43 Oh, oh, are there? Oh, thank you.
00:51:47 I thought this was it all, you know, last time in Boston.
00:51:50 I don't think that was the best, you know, not this regular season,
00:51:54 but when we played in the playoffs and everyone saw me flip off the birds
00:51:57 and kind of lose my shit a little bit.
00:51:59 That wasn't a great reflection of who I am and how I like to compete on a high level.
00:52:04 You know, it wasn't a great reflection on my end,
00:52:07 so it's the next generation on what it means to control your emotions
00:52:10 and that type of environment, no matter what people are yelling at you.
00:52:14 You know, I'm built for these moments. Congrats.
00:52:17 He went to therapy. Circumstances like that. And I've been able to grow since then.
00:52:22 So, of course, it's going to be a hectic environment,
00:52:25 but I'm looking forward to it and I see it as a healthy relationship to have with the fans,
00:52:29 you know, almost think about Gladiator just when the crowd over,
00:52:32 you know, it's good to hear the TV go silent.
00:52:36 They still respect great basketball. So regardless of, you know,
00:52:41 the attention that's being paid to what it's going to be like on my end.
00:52:43 I have a group to lead that's going to be looking to me for a voice of peace and to be peace.
00:52:51 Also, you know, so I'll take the point that they repeat.
00:52:54 I yells and stuff like that. And I will say this.
00:52:57 I will say this to anybody out there in the chat or anywhere who sees if this
00:53:03 if you guys turn the garden into Rocky 4 and start cheering for friggin,
00:53:08 you know, the enemy at the end of this thing.
00:53:12 We've got serious problems. Don't do it. People don't fall for this.
00:53:21 Remember what he did in the garden. John, play this. Remember what he did.
00:53:24 Oh my God. Oh my God. This is why I want to get in the garden.
00:53:29 This is why I won't go everybody's why he's in the finals.
00:53:33 Everybody look at this. Oh, I'm just brain lucky.
00:53:41 Literally and then and then we're supposed to like what give the guy a standing.
00:53:48 Oh when he walks through the doors. This goes back to what this goes back to what he said.
00:53:53 When I talked to him with Gary in March,
00:53:56 he thinks they're booing him because or he said they have the right to boo him until he beats them.
00:54:03 So and again, he's talking about it here.
00:54:06 They're going to start cheering him once he finally,
00:54:08 you know plays to the level he can and be like they're looking for him to like reach his potential.
00:54:13 I don't know how that's the conversation here. Obviously, we're well past everything to happen,
00:54:17 but promise you that no one's waiting for you.
00:54:19 How deluded is there booing him?
00:54:22 Because he's playing bad in the crowd over with good basketball.
00:54:25 He can't really believe that he can't that's not what it's about.
00:54:29 They're not booing him because he's lost 10 straight games and he stinks.
00:54:32 No. Yeah, he got that wrong. He was a freaking asshole.
00:54:35 Well, I think what he means is what he means though.
00:54:37 If you if he were to win a couple of games or in a season that they'll eventually get over it,
00:54:42 but in the playoffs and NBA Finals, there's no way of that.
00:54:44 There's no there's no chance of that happening. He's going to get booed.
00:54:47 He's going to get that treatment. But I just think overall,
00:54:50 that's what he meant when he was answering that question.
00:54:52 Shit. He probably didn't expect he'd make it to the NBA Finals.
00:54:54 He's being honest like this is back in March, but here we are.
00:54:58 I can't believe we're here. If he was beating them regularly recently,
00:55:02 there is a respect factor that you would have to give probably because he was just going off.
00:55:06 Right. That's what he that's what he means by that. Yeah, little by little.
00:55:10 You're still going to get booed. I have a sad story. I was in the building.
00:55:13 This is this is like 15 years ago now when the Celtics were it was the year before the Celtics
00:55:19 traded for KG and Ray and they were so bad.
00:55:22 You could go to Celtics Lakers day of for 10 bucks.
00:55:25 I went to the game. Anyone in that building knows what I'm about to say.
00:55:29 MVP chance. We're raining down that night and I'm sitting in the balcony.
00:55:34 I was sick to my stomach. I left there. I said something has to change.
00:55:39 This organization has reached rock bottom. It actually got a little bit worse.
00:55:43 I think but it was very close to rock bottom. The lottery. That is not going to be.
00:55:46 That's when it got worse. Yeah, that is not going to ever be Kyrie in the TD guard.
00:55:51 And I can promise you that. And on Thursday, he will get booed to the high heavens.
00:55:57 And the performance is a performance, but that's how it should be.
00:56:02 Again, that's how it's supposed to be. Right. Yeah.
00:56:06 I mean, his his departure is why he's always going to get booed here.
00:56:10 It was one of the just ugliest breaking ups of a player and a team
00:56:15 that the Celtics fans have seen in a really long time.
00:56:18 And, you know, even though things worked out, obviously, for the for the Celtics,
00:56:23 for the better with him leaving, that doesn't change the fact that he that that hurt went deep.
00:56:29 Folks are still pissed at how, you know, basically he said, I'm coming back.
00:56:33 Psych! Kidding. I'm not coming back. People are still so.
00:56:38 There was three things. I don't want the guy.
00:56:42 But I reclaimed there's more to it than that. He doesn't divulge all of it.
00:56:45 I'm going to play another soundbite from but also guys got to remember,
00:56:47 he was just like to not like to the next thing, you know, that's just learn how to move on and let go of the past.
00:56:56 It could cripple you if you allow it to, you know,
00:56:59 because I've been bombarded with Boston questions since I left and people trying to figure out what actually happened.
00:57:05 But again, I think the full story will come out probably when I'm retired or when it's appropriate.
00:57:09 Like I said, you know, because I don't mind. He needs more time to concoct it.
00:57:14 The brunt of the blame. You know, one of the best players in the world.
00:57:17 So I know it comes with that fair criticism, you know,
00:57:21 but it's just a little bit more grace could have been extended my way,
00:57:26 especially during that time as a human being.
00:57:29 I know sometimes in sports, it's literally about the end goal and result and what you accomplish.
00:57:33 And that's one thing. But we're still human at the end of the day.
00:57:36 And I wasn't my best self during that time.
00:57:38 So when I look back on it, I just see it as a time where I learned how to let go of things
00:57:42 and learn how to talk through my emotions, you know, came into the league at 19 years old,
00:57:47 not knowing how to be a young man as of yet.
00:57:50 Yeah, but damn, you were like, stop throwing at me. I was expected to do wondrous things,
00:57:54 but I just wanted already won a championship.
00:57:57 Being and you were a veteran.
00:57:59 See me first. Yeah. So it was good.
00:58:01 See, here's here's the thing about here's the thing about about Kyrie that it's to me.
00:58:06 It's the uncomfortable truth that nobody wants to embrace about him.
00:58:10 Kyrie is a great number two guy.
00:58:14 When you look in Boston, he had to be the number one and he couldn't handle that.
00:58:18 He couldn't handle the leadership that comes with you being front and center face of a franchise every single day.
00:58:25 It's not a coincidence that the best years in Kyrie's life have come with LeBron James,
00:58:31 have come with Luka Donjiaz, have come with guys who were clearly better than him.
00:58:35 And when he had an opportunity to build a team with great players like he had in Boston, he couldn't handle it.
00:58:42 And yes, there may be some other things that were mitigating factors that he will talk about when he retires or
00:58:47 figures out what the story is going to be.
00:58:49 The bottom line is he had an opportunity to build a franchise in the mold of being a perennial title contender.
00:58:56 And he whiffed at the opportunity because when you look at the talent that he was surrounded with in Boston
00:59:02 and you look at what those guys are doing now and you start thinking like, oh my goodness,
00:59:05 he could have literally put it in cruise control two years later and let Jalen and Jason kind of run things.
00:59:11 And he could be like the greatest number three option in NBA history.
00:59:14 But he didn't want that pressure of being the face front and center day in, day out.
00:59:19 And he again, I respect the fact that Kyrie at least, I think, has figured out that's who he is.
00:59:26 That's why you went to Brooklyn and you brought KD and James Harden.
00:59:29 That's why in Dallas you got Luka.
00:59:31 That's why in Cleveland you had LeBron.
00:59:33 So I'm okay with Kyrie being in the role that he's in now because this is where he can be the best version of himself.
00:59:39 And if he stayed in Boston, he would have been fraudulent.
00:59:42 It would have been, he was sick.
00:59:45 The stuff insults your intelligence though because like, it's like, that's the frustrating thing is I'm in the I don't care camp.
00:59:52 I don't because it's so long ago and the Celtics ended up better for it.
00:59:57 I've already explained why it doesn't bother me.
00:59:58 Kyrie in my mind lost.
01:00:00 He lost this three years ago.
01:00:01 He's been irrelevant.
01:00:02 He went and he proved himself to be a fraud and a poser and you know, he blew up another team and everywhere he goes, he's miserable.
01:00:10 To his credit, it went well in Dallas and it didn't always look like it was going to.
01:00:15 So credit for the basketball portion of things working out there, no doubt about it.
01:00:19 But this whole like, everyone feels bad.
01:00:22 His grandfather died.
01:00:23 He talks about that as one of the things that kind of made him a little bit off that final year.
01:00:28 But you know what? There's a lot of people that like experience things that happen in their lives and it affects them in a lot of different ways.
01:00:34 And then they don't leave their team, you know, like it didn't that's that doesn't make you like I'm just leaving Boston now.
01:00:42 Like that's just a hardship that someone dealt with which sucks.
01:00:46 And so but to use that is the reason why you decided to sneakily run off.
01:00:51 That's just disingenuous manipulative stuff.
01:00:53 I snuck off in a back alley, told these guys I was going to stay and then formed another alliance when I didn't like the way it was going.
01:01:00 Nah, you just seemed like it happened in February.
01:01:03 You just did that. You just did that.
01:01:05 And that's what you did and live with it. And it's fine.
01:01:08 It's just people do that all the time. They form super teams.
01:01:10 They form alliances. They go to play with their buddies, agents, drive things.
01:01:15 It's normal. But when you do that, the fans hate you. That's just how it goes.
01:01:18 There's no secret way to talk your way out of it.
01:01:21 Like you spurn a team, you leave them at the altar.
01:01:24 The fans hate you for the rest of your life. It's all sports all the time.
01:01:28 There's no there's no way you're going to spin it, you know, and be able to, you know, to like absolve yourself of that.
01:01:37 That's it. Right. And he thought too that that was going to be much, not even say easier path,
01:01:42 but it was going to be a lot more fun with his buddies and he would start this new dynasty in Brooklyn and it all blew up in front of his face.
01:01:47 But like, let's let's call it what it is.
01:01:49 I mean, that was the option and he he wanted that, you know,
01:01:52 and it wasn't like he had this team where you have to wait two, three, four years to compete.
01:01:57 No, they were ready or at least they were on the cusp of it.
01:02:00 And yeah, I'm with you, John. I just feel like the the growing pains of being a leader and being the top guy got to him.
01:02:06 And like Sharad said, he's a he's one of the best number two guys,
01:02:11 but I think he found out real quick in Boston that he that the being the number one guy isn't isn't as easy as maybe he thought it would.
01:02:18 Yeah. And again, that's super team. That's really what it was.
01:02:21 He thought it was going to be way easier just teaming up with those guys.
01:02:24 But yeah, hit the like button, guys. Thank you very much. You're right.
01:02:27 You're saying he thought he was going to cruise. He was going to bring in Anthony Davis.
01:02:31 He was going to do his thing and that was it. Yeah. Tatum and Brown were going to they need a couple more years and all that.
01:02:35 And it blew up in front of his face. And I think obviously the Brooklyn Nets organization gave these guys way too much power in terms of who's the coach.
01:02:44 The rest of the roster moves. DeAndre Jordan, you know, that was a big talking talking point throughout those beginning years.
01:02:51 But yeah, you know what's going to bother you guys more?
01:02:54 Wait, we're not leaving Kyrie talk, are we? This is going to bother me.
01:02:58 They've improved tremendously. They've made a few all-star games.
01:03:01 The Jays. He's serious, gushing about the Jays who he mentors.
01:03:06 So I'm nothing short of proud. Always the one able to do left a lot of good wisdom with them.
01:03:12 Try to get. Oh, oh, oh, my God.
01:03:15 And also when I went to Brooklyn and came to Dallas,
01:03:20 just being able to extend a brother brother relationship with him,
01:03:23 letting all have their back no matter what, you know, this basketball stuff is going to be competitive no matter what.
01:03:28 We're going to go at each other. But, you know, getting to know them as human beings.
01:03:32 They're really special people alongside other people that I got a chance to know in a Boston organization.
01:03:39 Yes, they're back no matter what. By the way, I'm leaving the team.
01:03:42 Well, he's got their back way back, way back, like back door. I'm out.
01:03:46 Yep. Yeah. And honestly, I think I think Kyrie deserves a ring.
01:03:52 If the Celtics win, he might for making the Jays this good. Go ahead, Jimmy.
01:03:56 Sorry. No, you guys hit on all the reasons why fans hate Kyrie, which is basically comes down to he said he was going to stay.
01:04:03 Then he left. He kind of left him high and dry. Didn't really give a shit about what was going to happen after the fact.
01:04:08 The other half of it is when he was on the team and after he was on the team, he was kind of an asshole.
01:04:14 And so he was hard to like. And so it's a lot easier to keep the criticism going when he was an unlikable player.
01:04:23 I was here and then he screwed you over and he was an unlikable player on the next team in Brooklyn.
01:04:27 And there's plenty of, you know, highlights and video footage to back that up with his time.
01:04:32 And, you know, going back and forth with the with the Celtics fans.
01:04:35 And by the way. Very, very unprofessional at that time.
01:04:42 And listen, you have to understand fans are going to be fans. Hopefully they don't cross the line.
01:04:46 And, you know, they they are just that they're making it difficult for you to win in on the road.
01:04:52 That's what good fans do. They make it uncomfortable. They make it difficult.
01:04:55 They're loud. They're proud of their team. And if you spurn them at some point, they're not going to forget it.
01:05:00 And by the way, nobody on the show is staying up at night thinking about Kyrie Irving.
01:05:06 We're talking about it because it's a great storyline and it brings back those negative feelings, those emotions.
01:05:13 That's where they came from in many ways, too. You know, they were in shambles of of this.
01:05:18 One of the great fun side stories of this series. So great for Kyrie.
01:05:23 Listen, I'm glad that Kyrie is no longer an asshole. I'm I'm glad to hear that.
01:05:28 I'm happy for him. I really am. He seems like he's in a better place. He seems like he found his home.
01:05:32 That's great. That's perfect. And I'm just wait a minute.
01:05:34 Yeah. All that being said, when he comes back to Boston.
01:05:39 Good for you, dude. You're in a better place. But guess what?
01:05:42 While you're in Boston, people are still going to be trying to get under your skin.
01:05:46 That's as they should. That's home court advantage. That's the whole point.
01:05:49 And it's all in good fun. And Kyrie's the one who said it's just basketball.
01:05:53 It is just basketball. So don't get your panties in a bunch.
01:05:56 If you guys lose the game and you and you're going to label the city this or label the organization that or label the fans that it's just basketball at the end of the day.
01:06:06 That's my dog. I hope we move past my dog.
01:06:10 Bobby's like scared about Bobby's like scared about it.
01:06:13 He's like, just why just hope over. I just hope we get into the series and the Celtics win and they move like you are above it to some degree at this point.
01:06:23 Like forget about being in all of the sky and the Celtics kind of had, you know, Tatum kind of gloated about, you know, how awesome it was to play with them and this and that.
01:06:33 Great. I mean, in 2019, 2018, when you were at that stage of your career, Tatum has moved miles past Kyrie.
01:06:40 Even Brown is miles and miles ahead of Tyree as a player at this point, I feel like.
01:06:46 So just take care of business in this series.
01:06:49 If you're up three, one, you know, ready to clinch in a game five, like it's not about Kyrie at that point.
01:06:54 Like this is about you going to win a championship. And so that's why, like, again, I think it's going to be part of the atmosphere that game one and you embrace that, you know, Horford said that too.
01:07:05 And if Horford says that, like that really says something. Definitely loud booze.
01:07:09 Yeah, no, I hate to ruin it.
01:07:12 I love it. But once you get past that, make it about the finals, like make it about supporting this team, make it about pushing this team, because it's not about the series isn't about Kyrie at all.
01:07:24 Yeah, but do you think it's going to affect his performance?
01:07:27 Kyrie's? Yeah, it should.
01:07:31 It probably should, because there's pressure on him to some degree.
01:07:34 Yeah, that's why it's just a storyline, you know, so it's but I hear what you're saying.
01:07:39 I just, you know, you don't want to you don't want people to cross the line. Obviously, that's always in people are going to be talking about that.
01:07:45 What I worry about those ways, Luca, he's going to get it.
01:07:48 He's going to get in his feelings. Yeah. And Luca is going to take it personally.
01:07:50 So that's you don't think that's what CTV right there.
01:07:53 I love it. You don't think you don't think Red Sox fans booed A-Rod.
01:07:56 You don't think Celtics fans booed like this has been going on for Johnny Damon.
01:08:00 And he desperately wanted to stay here and going on since the beginning of sports.
01:08:04 It's not going to change this weekend.
01:08:06 It's not what the series is about, but it's part of the storyline.
01:08:11 You can't ignore that aspect of it or pretend it doesn't exist or pretend that no, you can't.
01:08:16 Celtics are better now and they're all better that we should just act like everything's hunky-dory.
01:08:24 Well, what do you think of the Celtics players handle the handling the way they have?
01:08:27 It's not going to affect the players. It's the players aren't going to be affected by it.
01:08:32 You know, they don't know they are buddies.
01:08:34 This is a League of buddies. So I don't expect that to really play much into it at all.
01:08:39 I mean, hopefully they can both sides can like put their friendships behind them for a couple weeks
01:08:44 and like just play hard basketball and leave it on the basketball court.
01:08:48 But I don't this they're not going to get caught up in in the in the you know, the negative.
01:08:53 No, and they didn't in 2022, which was huge. I want to say something.
01:08:58 I don't want to jump the gun, but I was going to just mention the fact that there's a reverse situation.
01:09:03 Reportedly potentially going to happen in Dallas with Porzingis.
01:09:07 Apparently all the fans there hate Porzingis and this former teammates don't like Porzingis.
01:09:12 So we can't sit here and again saying kumbaya when Kyrie Irving takes the court
01:09:17 and then game three happens in Porzingis gets boot out of the building.
01:09:22 Then you're saying well, wait a second. We thought everything was clear. Exactly.
01:09:27 Yeah, exactly. That is pretty cool. That's gone both ways.
01:09:30 Yeah, so we are really home court advantage in this series to sorry, John real quick.
01:09:34 Like besides that there's a game seven, you know, that's obviously huge,
01:09:36 but I feel like either team can lose at home.
01:09:40 So it's interesting. Oh, yeah, I'm not doing anything. I'm not rapping.
01:09:42 I just want to do a quick promo on one thing and we're going to let you know
01:09:47 because we got to wrap it in a few minutes. We do have these guys.
01:09:51 Yeah. What is that? Where's the logo on it? I don't even see it.
01:09:58 It's on the left in the corner. Oh, there it is.
01:10:00 Corners first to the floor. NBA finals preview coming up next.
01:10:05 Look at this packed show. They have Chris Forsberg, Luka Doncic,
01:10:09 Kyrie Irving, Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown on this show.
01:10:13 Join the Aussies right after. For his very clean and awesome.
01:10:17 Look at that starting five. Yeah. Look at this five.
01:10:21 No, it's going to be Ben and Jake. Maybe more.
01:10:26 I think, you know, out in Australia, I think it's Thursday morning,
01:10:31 the day of the finals in Australia right now.
01:10:33 And these guys are bringing you a finals preview. First.
01:10:36 Yeah. First to the floor. That's coming up right at nine o'clock.
01:10:39 So we're going to hop off just before then.
01:10:41 We just wanted to tell you guys that there is a reason to wait around
01:10:45 and there is more basketball coming up here.
01:10:48 So definitely check that out in a little bit. Guys, jump back to it.
01:10:52 And you want to you want to buzz around and give predictions.
01:10:56 You want to wait? We got a few days. I might hold my prediction.
01:10:59 I'm holding my prediction. I'm still formulating it.
01:11:02 I'm going to write it and then I'm going to speak it into existence.
01:11:06 And then wait a day. Preview show. We got to kind of we kind of.
01:11:09 You don't have to. You don't have to. We all think Boston's going to win.
01:11:12 It's just a matter of how many games. But I haven't formulated my reasoning yet.
01:11:17 What else do you guys think in this game? I guess I'll ask you this.
01:11:19 What scares you the most heading into this one?
01:11:22 Luka. Is it all Luka and that's it?
01:11:26 He's the only he's the one guy the one he's the one he's the one factor
01:11:30 that can absolutely derail Boston winning a championship more than anything else.
01:11:35 More than anyone else. Luka. Yeah. Scares the crap out of me.
01:11:39 Yeah, definitely. Going toe to toe with Tatum taking matters to his own hands.
01:11:44 I mean the way he finished off those some of those games against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
01:11:49 He's that guy. He's a killer. He's the best player in the series, you know.
01:11:52 So yeah, for me, I agree with that. For me, it's poor Zengis.
01:11:56 What's he look like? How long does he last? Does he fit into what they're trying to do right now?
01:12:01 Like the flow they had going. This is unprecedented.
01:12:05 I think Brian Wynhorse said the last player to miss this much time in the playoffs
01:12:08 and come back for a final series was Jameer Nelson in '09.
01:12:11 So it just doesn't happen. I think Chris Bosh came back at one point
01:12:15 from like missing some games on the Heat's run.
01:12:18 He's never been this deep in the playoffs. Like I think the first rounds as far as he's gone.
01:12:23 So this is a stage and intensity and certainly him coming back at less than 100% here is another factor.
01:12:30 Is he just able to keep up with what's going on here?
01:12:33 And then from that standpoint, like how does Joe react to that?
01:12:36 You know, Joe got asked like how do you utilize a guy like that?
01:12:39 Who's coming back from as much missed time as he is? And he basically said you just throw him out there.
01:12:43 You know, you just do what you've been doing. I don't know if that's going to be the case.
01:12:46 Like a minutes limitation. That's certainly part of what he's going to have to deal with here.
01:12:49 You think how they utilize him? Like is he a roamer?
01:12:53 Is he a guy who's actually in the pick and roll? Are you going double big?
01:12:57 That stuff all worries me. And again, if you don't have Porzingis at all,
01:13:01 again, there's some predictions. This is a seven game series.
01:13:05 If you have a lesser version of Porzingis, it's a six game series.
01:13:09 And if he's great, you're talking sweep in five games.
01:13:13 So like he really is a winning scale. I'm not all the way there on that.
01:13:17 I think there's a lot of things where even with Porzingis,
01:13:21 I think the Celtics have the definitive advantage, but I still think Dallas can and absolutely,
01:13:26 you know, might make a very long series and potentially win.
01:13:32 I don't think it's like, oh, well, KP plays. It's a slam dunk or KP's effective.
01:13:35 You just said off the top of the show that Dallas thinks. I think it's a decided edge for Boston,
01:13:41 but how it plays out, I still don't fully know.
01:13:43 It's not one of those like you can't lose to Cleveland, no matter what you do.
01:13:48 You can't lose to Miami. It was virtually impossible to lose this.
01:13:52 This is not that series. This is a good team with a guy who can single-handedly,
01:13:57 two guys, take over a game and win it on their own.
01:14:00 So again, there's so many factors in it that I'm not saying slam dunk one way or the other.
01:14:05 Even if I predict one thing, would it shock you if Dallas whipped? No, it wouldn't.
01:14:11 So I don't think the Porzingis thing, I think it gives Boston a clear edge if he's healthy.
01:14:18 You don't think it can derail them if he's not right or not available?
01:14:20 I think it absolutely can. I'm pretty nervous about it.
01:14:22 I'm nervous about him not being anywhere near game shape.
01:14:26 He hasn't played since, pardon me, April 29th, I believe.
01:14:32 I mean, it's going to be five, five and a half weeks without playing NBA speed basketball.
01:14:37 You're going to jump into the finals where everybody's going 10,000 miles an hour because that's it.
01:14:42 It's, you know, it's this is your only shot.
01:14:45 It's asking a ton, you know, and he's going to be asked to do a lot.
01:14:49 He's not just out there to like, hey man, just, you know, just do your thing.
01:14:52 Grab a couple of boards. If it comes to you in the corner, hit a three.
01:14:55 He's hugely involved in what they're trying to do offensively and defensively, every possession.
01:15:00 So he's not just a guy who can just be out there and suck bad KP.
01:15:05 And we've seen a couple of versions of it really messes up with the Celtics do and that scares me a bit.
01:15:10 I can't remember which game it was when Porzingis had one of his worst games.
01:15:14 He's got 38 in the first round. When Porzingis goes bad, it can really mess with you.
01:15:19 So I definitely get worried there. Real quick.
01:15:21 I wanted to sneak this in because we didn't get a chance to talk about it.
01:15:24 But one more, just one more, one more sponsor to talk about PXG.

01:16:53 We've got those back in stock.
01:16:55 And we have a major, major announcement coming this week about an addition to the merch store.
01:16:59 I don't want to give it away, but it might be hard hats.
01:17:03 It might just be hard hats. Just in time for the finals. We're going to get them shipped out immediately.
01:17:08 You guys will have them for the finals if you order them when they hit the—
01:17:13 Full question. What will we see first? ChrisTaps, Porzingis, or hard hats?
01:17:17 What do you guys think? Porzingis. Porzingis. I'm going to take them all.
01:17:22 I'm going to refrain from voting. I'm going to refrain from voting.
01:17:26 The hard hats— Listen, guys, the reason why it's taken as long as this is because we want them to be chef's kiss perfect.
01:17:33 So this is the time. I'm being told that they're in the final stage of production.
01:17:38 It's like materials— Limited supply. Very limited supply.
01:17:41 What are you getting this plastic from? Geez.
01:17:43 No, it's like material. It's like vibranium. These things are friggin' awesome.
01:17:47 Okay? You can put it this way— Coming in from Wakanda, from the mines of Wakanda.
01:17:51 This thing is friggin' hard hats. You can wear this thing in like the biggest construction site possible.
01:17:57 You guys are really talking this thing up, man. Rocks are going.
01:18:00 We'll see. Anyways, that announcement will be coming soon.
01:18:05 And there will be a very limited supply of them because this is the first run.
01:18:09 So if you want one, don't wait. Don't wait. Don't wait.
01:18:13 Okay. So what are you doing now? You're waiting.
01:18:18 Jimmy's like, "Nick, where the f—are the hard hats off to this side?"
01:18:22 Trust me. He is on another text chain about this.
