00:18Well, the celebration continues here on the Cedric Maxwell podcast.
00:22I am Joseph Bobone. He is, of course, Cedric Maxwell.
00:25The Boston Celtics are your NBA champions after beating, man, what an NBA final.
00:31After beating the Dallas Mavericks in game five, man, it turned into a party in that fourth quarter, Max.
00:36I know, I know Jomezula didn't pull the starters until like the two minute mark or whatever the case may be.
00:41But you could you could feel the vibe. The championship was there, man.
00:46It was there for them to celebrate.
00:48What does that have to do with anything?
00:50We can pull the starters. So what? No.
00:53You know, what do they say when you when you're going in trying to put a fire out?
00:57Drown it. Drown it again.
01:01Make sure it's out. Right, right.
01:04I mean, why are you why are you going to take a chance until Kyrie came out of the game?
01:10Until, you know, Luca came out of the game.
01:12Yeah, yeah. OK, I think we're done here now.
01:15I think I think our work is done.
01:17I just remember looking at the clock being like, there's no way they could.
01:20Nah, there's no way. You know, it is one of those things where it happens so fast for me, Max.
01:24You know, the fourth quarter flew by. Next thing you know, it's a two minute mark.
01:27You're like, this thing is done. This thing turned into a party.
01:30And the TD TD guard was rocking, man.
01:32Well, here's the thing I'll ask you.
01:35Was this thing over when Peyton Prichard hit that half court at the half court?
01:39Yes. Yeah, I think so, Max.
01:43Went, but I don't think I've ever heard the garden that loud.
01:47That's the loudest I heard all season long. That's exactly what I told people.
01:50That is the loudest I've heard it all year long.
01:53Ballistic. Yeah.
01:55Ask you a question, because, you know, I'm going to put you be the guy this time.
01:59Kyrie Irving goes at the in the fourth quarter, late in the fourth quarter,
02:03with about three minutes to go.
02:05He starts dapping up the Celtic players.
02:09Congratulations. Did you have a problem with that?
02:12No, I got a problem.
02:14A lot of people did. Really? Why?
02:17I figured, like, I feel like they would respect it.
02:20A lot of people.
02:22I got no problem with that.
02:25All he wants to do is be by himself, you know, show he's like,
02:30you just want to say congratulations.
02:34But if he doesn't do that, Max, if he doesn't do that, he's a he's a sore loser.
02:37Right. He's a man. Kyrie, he couldn't even shake their hands.
02:41Man, you're right. Kyrie had no way to win.
02:44There was no way for Kyrie to win.
02:46Or if he congratulates the Celtics, if he doesn't do this, he doesn't do that.
02:50Then, you know, he was he was shit out of luck, regardless what happened to that.
02:56And so I applaud Kyrie for doing what he did.
03:00I'm just laughing right now when I think about all the pundits.
03:04They said nine out of 12 reporters who weren't ESPN and around.
03:10Thousand six. So they said, Max, most of them.
03:13Ray Dallas, that Stephen A.
03:15Smith, your guy, Dallas, Dallas.
03:18Yeah, man, I saw him actually in Dallas before game three.
03:23And he was like, oh, no way.
03:25Right now I'm picking Dallas tonight because no poor Zingas.
03:29I wouldn't necessarily count.
03:31And boy, Brown showed his ass.
03:33Tatum showed. And the defense.
03:36I mean, this is just the this is just this is a seriously good team.
03:41There are no the marquee names are like Tatum.
03:46Now it might be Brown, but the other guys.
03:49Right. Biggest of the world.
03:51Drew Holliday, you know, Derek White, you know, Pritchard Houser.
03:58This team is only going to get better.
04:01They don't lose any people.
04:03You know, everybody is on the contract.
04:05And Al Horford is going into his glory year.
04:08I'm not sure if Al Horford can't come back and play another year after this.
04:12I will go. I'm out. I go year by year.
04:15You know, just see how my body feels.
04:17You know, if you get to know how you can.
04:19But this team is built to win another championship.
04:23I think several more championships with the personnel they have.
04:27And if, if, if what?
04:30If they stay healthy, this team can win.
04:33This team can this team can repeat.
04:35And for all those Lakers fans out there, people are watching us on this podcast.
04:40I know you want to throw up in the back of your throats right now, but go ahead.
04:45Do it because they were.
04:47There was a that's what killed me about the Lakers fans.
04:50It was anybody except the Celtics.
04:53Right. Right.
04:54I don't care.
04:55I don't care what the church league school they came.
04:58They don't win.
05:01Yeah.
05:02And that that carried over to the national media.
05:04Max, all those guys at ESPN, including Stephen A.
05:07Smith, people who predicted the Dallas Mavericks.
05:09I'm like, have you not been watching how deep this team has been?
05:12Even without Chris Dasporzingas,
05:13you can't see the kind of problems that this team provides, you know,
05:17against the Dallas Mavericks with their depth.
05:19Like these guys ain't ready, man.
05:21They just weren't ready.
05:22And I'm not saying that the Dallas Mavericks didn't deserve to be on that stage
05:26to to play against the Celtics in the NBA finals.
05:28No, they absolutely did.
05:29They they went through some grueling series against the, you know,
05:32the Western Conference and Minnesota Timberwolves and all that.
05:35But when it came down to it, this was a better team.
05:38And I think that's what now everyone understands the depth of the Celtics team.
05:42Al Horford starting that entire NBA finals.
05:45He was he was a killer, man.
05:47And it wasn't just about the three-point shot.
05:49It was the defense.
05:50It was like you said, Derrick White defending in the backcourt.
05:53You know, Drew Holliday showing his veteran leadership.
05:57You know, it was so many guys that it got to the point where midway through the
06:01series, regardless of what Dallas was doing,
06:03regardless of how well Luka was playing, you know, offensively, I should say.
06:08You were like, how are the Dallas Mavericks going to match
06:11this offensive production against the Celtics?
06:13And then that's how I felt going into game four.
06:15That's how I felt going into game five.
06:17You know, yeah, the Dallas Mavericks were able to keep their series going
06:20and didn't get swept.
06:21But going back to Boston with this crowd, with the 6-1-7,
06:24with the history and everything.
06:26And then again, the depth.
06:27I'm like, the Dallas Mavericks are not going to be able to survive that
06:30environment.
06:31And you knew that.
06:32You knew that right at halftime.
06:33Like you said, Pritchard knocking down at the half-court shot.
06:36All of a sudden, it's a 21-point game.
06:38And the place is rocking.
06:40The Dallas Mavericks are backs against the wall.
06:42You just knew there was no way they're going to be able to survive that.
06:45Their margin for error wasn't good because you had guys like Jones who
06:51couldn't throw it in the ocean in this series.
06:54P.J. was…
06:57Washington, yeah.
06:59He did not play like he played against when he played against Minnesota.
07:04And everybody else on that bench was just marginal.
07:08There was nobody to look at.
07:10Lively and…
07:13What was their other center?
07:15Never really got involved in the game.
07:18They weren't that good.
07:20And then there was…
07:22Lively, Powell.
07:23You had Exum.
07:25Exum had a couple of threes or whatever.
07:27Exum was probably the best one consistently coming off the bench.
07:32And so Gafford was another guy.
07:34Oh, my God.
07:35Gafford's going to kill you guys.
07:36That's the other bit, yeah.
07:39Well, that didn't happen.
07:40That's almost a gimmicky play.
07:43You get it a few times, but you don't get against the Suffolks because
07:47that big poor Zingas is in there with his limp.
07:50And the defensive principles that the Suffolks had in this series,
07:56that was the key to it.
07:59I mean, them haters can hate all they want to,
08:01but these guys have won them a championship.
08:04I talked to Tatum.
08:05I talked to Brown.
08:07I couldn't be happier for guys.
08:09The narrative, really, I thought it was funny.
08:12Oh, my God.
08:13People were wishing that the Suffolks lost Game 5.
08:17Oh, my God.
08:19They lose Game 5.
08:20This series goes back to Dallas, and now it's going to be a seventh game.
08:24Let them play the freaking game first.
08:27Oh, my God.
08:30Well, it never got to that.
08:35Right.
08:36I just remember, again, all the guys from Haslam,
08:42all the people that I know.
08:44Oh, Haslam was begging for an L, man.
08:46He was praying for the Suffolks to lose that Game 5, man.
08:49He just wanted them to lose that Game 5, to be honest with you.
08:53He knew deep down they were going to win the series, but he was like,
08:55please don't let them win here.
08:576-1-7 on their day, all that stuff.
08:59You know, you can just tell.
09:01Yeah.
09:03It was crazy for them to even think that way.
09:07What did he say?
09:08He said something to you?
09:09What do you mean?
09:10I went back to the green room.
09:12He said, you know I'm not with you.
09:15I said, boss, I'm sure you aren't being, you know, with the heat.
09:19But guess what?
09:21The Suffolks are coming down and partying in your city after they win the
09:24championship.
09:25That's right.
09:27How do you feel about that?
09:29I love it.
09:30People are like, why Miami?
09:31I was like, why not?
09:32What do you mean, why Miami?
09:34Have you been to Miami?
09:35That's what I was telling people.
09:36You know, my friends and people close to me were like hitting me up like,
09:39but why are they going to Miami for a few days?
09:41You know, the parade's on Friday.
09:42I'm like, why not?
09:43You got three days to kill.
09:45Why the F not?
09:46Like, what are you saying?
09:47Stay here in Boston and do what?
09:49Party where?
09:50Right.
09:51Go to Encore for a couple days or whatever.
09:53Like, you know the party's going to be lit on Friday for the parade and all
09:56that.
09:57Like, they'll come right back.
09:58I didn't mind them doing that.
10:00It's just, I was just, I was just being like, who okayed that?
10:04Who thought that that was going to be a good idea?
10:07Whose idea was to, I want to know, was it like a group decision or what?
10:10I didn't see anything good that could happen by having a bunch of young men
10:16who had just won the championship.
10:17Go to Miami, alcohol, women.
10:20Right, right.
10:21I'm just happy there's no footage, Max.
10:23You know, because if someone caught him on TMZ or whatever,
10:26if someone caught him in general, it would have been on TMZ and all that.
10:29So the fact that they kept it in house, they kept it a hundred on that one.
10:32Because you could tell, man,
10:33they made sure there was no outsiders going to put them on blast, man.
10:36I'm sure they had a good time.
10:37Whatever they did, whatever they did out there,
10:39it's going to stay between them.
10:40I like that.
10:41They had an excellent time.
10:43And you know, the next measure of business isn't like, okay,
10:49you know that Tatum is going to be signed.
10:52He's going to sign the extension.
10:54Then after that, you know that Derek White's going to sign the extension.
10:58So your top seven, eight players are in play,
11:03are going to be with you.
11:05Now, are you going to get somebody who wants to come over and win the championship?
11:10That's what's going to be.
11:12That's what happens.
11:13Who wants to come over and what veteran player, you know,
11:18wants to come over and, you know, win the championship.
11:21You know, Blake Griffin, he's not playing anymore, but you know, guys like that.
11:25Something like that.
11:26Yeah.
11:27Coming to Boston who feels like they can come in,
11:30they can make a small contribution, but be there with these,
11:35these young horses, man.
11:37I mean, these are young horses that are saying, look, you want to get on with me?
11:42You don't bore.
11:43You know, I'm going to take you on and get a ring.
11:45I mean, I still can remember me talking to Tatum after,
11:49after they won and got ready to go to the finals.
11:52And he peered in on me and said, yo, man, I'm going to win you a ring.
11:57And I remember saying to him, dude, win one for yourself.
12:01I already got two.
12:05That's right.
12:06That's right.
12:07But now he, now he got, now he got one coming his way, man.
12:10Good for a good potato, man.
12:11So proud of these guys.
12:12But they're in a position right now, which I love.
12:15I absolutely love this position.
12:17They're in understanding who they're going to be, what they can do.
12:22Being able to be aggressive.
12:24The pressure bubble is now burst for Tatum, for Brown.
12:31And Michael Felder, your guy here, who was a big radio personality,
12:37or whatever he might be talking about.
12:40That's what he is.
12:41Yeah.
12:42First, he always wants to be controversial with this thing.
12:46Well, who was the best player in the series for the Celtics?
12:52Was Tatum better than Brown or Brown better?
12:54I said, it doesn't matter.
12:56I think Brown won it.
12:57I think that was a fair jest that he won, that he was able to get that.
13:02Yeah, I agree with that.
13:03And he went on to say, well, you know, there's still meat on the bones
13:07for the Celtics.
13:09And said, he talked about Jason Tatum possibly winning the MVP in the finals.
13:13And Brown being an all-star.
13:16Then he comes back.
13:17His next question after that is, so what did the Celtics,
13:20what did they have to prove?
13:21I said, that's exactly it.
13:23I said, exactly what you said.
13:25There's meat still left on the bone for the Boston Celtics.
13:28Because Tatum can come back and be a finals MVP.
13:31And Brown can become an all-star.
13:34So if you think about those things, this team is,
13:38I just think this team can be really, it can be special.
13:41And they got an opportunity to win again this year.
13:43You know, barring injury, barring injury, this team.
13:49And I think they're so well coached.
13:51And I think the coach gets it when it comes to resting his players.
13:57Al Horford not playing on the second night of a back-to-back.
14:00Right, that was huge, Max.
14:02They stuck with that principle.
14:04That did help them.
14:05Because now Al has some gas at the end of the season.
14:09You know, Christoph was in this obviously hurt,
14:12but how does he come back?
14:14You know, they said his injury was only,
14:16I think 1% of the people in the world have ever had the injury he's had.
14:20Why is he so lucky?
14:22But, you know, hopefully he comes back well and healthy.
14:25And, you know, it's just, it will be,
14:28the process will be a much easier process if you think of it,
14:31you know, being that way.

16:23Pick more or less,
16:24and it's that easy.
16:26100% Max.
16:28And you look at the timeline,
16:29you look at the moves that Brad Stevens made last summer.
16:32It all made sense.
16:33I mean, we knew that going into the season,
16:35but to see it now as the champions of the NBA,
16:39when you look ahead to what the payroll looks like
16:43and everyone's salaries and everyone's contracts,
16:45and you're like, man, this thing,
16:47they could win two more.
16:49You know?
16:50The window is there for them.
16:51All these guys, the majority of them,
16:53the guys you just mentioned,
16:54are entering their prime
16:55or just started their prime years in their 20s still.
16:59Chris Statham, I know, is close to 30,
17:00but he's got plenty left
17:02if, of course, when he's able to respond,
17:05you know, from the injury,
17:06when he's going to be able to bounce back.
17:07But I'm not too worried about it.
17:09Chris Statham is 28, just wait.
17:12I know he don't look that,
17:13I know he don't look to be 28,
17:15but he's 28.
17:16Right.
17:17The Browns are just going to cross,
17:19Brown and Tatum are just, you know,
17:22crossing that 25 barrier.
17:24Only guy he had right now,
17:25Drew Holiday,
17:26and Drew Holiday stays in tremendous shape.
17:29Had a great season.
17:30Derek White is the odd man that you have to sign.
17:34Yeah, you have to.
17:35That's a must.
17:36This summer, if you can.
17:37Yeah, they're not going to let him,
17:39you know, he has one more year on his contract.
17:41They're going to make sure they get him an extension
17:43and, you know, bump his salary up.
17:45So this team is collectively as a unit.
17:49You know, the one I want him to go out
17:51and extend his contract would be Joe Mazzullo.
17:53Let's give Joe some of that loot, man.
17:55Let's give Joe his flowers.
18:00For real, he's earned it, man.
18:02Joe Mazzullo has, you know, went to,
18:05he would have been close to going to a finals last year,
18:08you know, when Tatum hurt his ankle,
18:11you know, twist his ankle against Miami.
18:13You know, I think that was freakish,
18:15but he coached well enough for them to get there.
18:18And this year to come back and win the championship.
18:21The man's had two years, two successful years.
18:24And I can only see it actually getting better.
18:28And as much as he is a odd bird,
18:31a crazy kind of, you know, by himself, religion.
18:35Yeah, he's an odd duck.
18:36He's an odd duck.
18:37Yeah.
18:40He took the trophy over into the north end.
18:45North end.
18:46Yeah.
18:47Walking around with the trophy.
18:49And it was just this dude, he's different.
18:53He's different.
18:54Yeah, he's different.
18:55He's different in a way that his players love Joe Mazzullo.
18:59They relate to him well.
19:01And the fact that he's not that much older than these guys,
19:04I think that's the biggest thing.
19:06Joe Mazzullo is 35 now, 33, 35.
19:09Some place in the area.
19:11Al Horford is older than the damn coach.
19:14Yeah, he's older than Joe.
19:15Yeah, that's true.
19:16So, yeah,
19:17there's some really beautiful things about this team right now that are set
19:21up well.
19:22And all them haters over there, man,
19:23can hate all they want to, but mm-mm.
19:26I think this team is, you know, they, again,
19:32they kicked the door down.
19:35And that was the most important.
19:36They kicked the door down.
19:37And that had to be huge when it came to Tatum and Brown.
19:41That's why, man, I was so happy they won in game five.
19:44The last thing I wanted to do was go back to Dallas.
19:47Oh, man, I wasn't trying to do that either, Max.
19:49I was good with that, man.
19:51Get all that noise from the Dallas fans.
19:53And, oh, my God, the media would have crushed them.
19:58They would have crushed them if they hadn't played one more game.
20:01But then the way they won it, you know, there's a, I think you know,
20:05obviously you saw the point where Michael Weirborn was talking and he's
20:09doing a live thing back to back.
20:11Oh, yeah, that shit was funny.
20:12Run behind him.
20:14I'm like, you know, you know what I did?
20:16I said, you know what I hit him with?
20:18How about them damn Celtics?
20:21You know, this is the funny thing.
20:24Oh, just hold on for a second.
20:26Grab this.
20:27He's like, we live, Max.
20:28What are we doing?
20:29Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
20:30We live. We live.
20:31We live. We live.
20:32I got it.
20:33But I love the fact that we had our we had this going on the other day
20:38because, you know, we and we've had people call in for this.
20:41Hold them up, baby.
20:42That's it.
20:43That's this.
20:44That's the shirt right there.
20:45How about them damn Celtics?
20:47We can say what we want to say.
20:49But we got to send one to Wilburn.
20:51Send him one of those shirts.
20:53I think that Michael Belger had one on.
20:56Well, yeah, that was that was great.
20:58I was on that night with Michael Wilburn and Michael Holley.
21:02And, you know, and he had to put one on.
21:05But he was they were so Belger was so adamant, man.
21:10Just yeah.
21:11And people say they were lucky that this person injured.
21:16They the Celtics played who was in front of them.
21:19Do they?
21:20How much do they talk about Kristoff being hurt?
21:23Everybody just forgets about it.
21:26Kristoff was one of your best players this year.
21:29He goes down injury and you essentially win it almost without him.
21:35Man, I can't say enough about Al Horford.
21:37I'm so happy he's a champion, man.
21:3838 years old.
21:39Al Horford just anchored that defense, anchored the culture.
21:43Ask guys like Jalen and Jason Tatum.
21:45And it was just a special moment.
21:47But, yeah, I can't say enough about about Horford, you know,
21:51and spelling the rumors about him retiring, man.
21:53He's trying to run this thing back.
21:55He got mad.
21:56His wife put up a video of him from the on the on the parade route on the
21:59duck boat being like, man, we're going for back to back here.
22:02Let's go.
22:03It's on the twenty twenty five now.
22:04And, you know, I'm so happy that he was starting that entire NBA
22:09finals.
22:10Even when Porzingis was back for game one, I said, man, let Al start.
22:13Let him get that, you know, honor.
22:15And then, of course, to carry it over throughout the entire series.
22:18I loved it, man.
22:19It was it was incredible.
22:20You know, even Ann Horford put out a tweet being like, man,
22:23this guy doesn't want to stop playing until his body says no.
22:26You know, he hasn't reached that.
22:27He's nowhere near that point.
22:29You know, he's still one of the best centers and one of the best bigs in the
22:31NBA.
22:32David Max, when I think about it, I'm like, you still top ten.
22:35Like, it's incredible.
22:36Like, how can you how can you say he's not when you look at the body of work
22:40and you look at what he just did throughout this entire postseason?
22:43Man, you think one of the biggest plays over the last couple of years we've
22:47seen was when he dunked on Giannis.
22:50No.
22:51Yeah.
22:52Yeah.
22:53Twenty twenty two.
22:54That that nod he gave him.
22:55He said, OK, when he scored early.
22:57All right.
22:58I got you.
22:59Yes.
23:00I mean, dunked on him, gave him an elbow.
23:03And it's not just John.
23:05I was like, wow.
23:06But I was so happy for him with the ability to serve.
23:11He did.
23:12But this is Boston's other team.
23:14They're going to they're going to be tough to be.
23:18Only only way I think that the landscape changes and moves a little bit.
23:23That's if.
23:25And I don't know if he's going to do it or not, but the free agency is coming
23:30up.
23:31So we'll see.
23:32Does Paul George come to the Sixers?
23:35Mm hmm.
23:36What?
23:37That's what it would be to want to look like he was.
23:39He was campaigning on the live television.
23:42Joplin B was Joplin B was just hating all over the place.
23:46You know, Portland.
23:48Portland gave Portland gave the Celtics a championship.
23:52Oh, well, I mean, Milwaukee had drew holiday on the contract.
23:57Right.
23:58Blame Milwaukee, my guy.
24:00He didn't have to do that.
24:02They decided to go elsewhere.
24:04What do you want me to do?
24:05What?
24:06Oh, how salty can you be, though?
24:08Like, really?
24:09You're going to bring that up.
24:10You're going to go all the way back to last summer.
24:12Like, that's what that's what things went wrong for you.
24:14If there is one thing about this championship that puts a damper in my
24:21heart, that'd be the fact that Marcus Smart didn't win.
24:24Yeah, man.
24:26Who was arguably the heart and soul of what this team was.
24:30For years.
24:32Not to get that credit, not to be on that big stage.
24:38And I understand the trade works.
24:40I'm not.
24:41Look, don't get on me.
24:42So, oh, it was a trade.
24:44Well, yeah.
24:45And obviously, Drew was a tremendous fit.
24:48But I'm just talking human nature of a guy who busts his ass,
24:53played through injuries, played with all the adversity,
24:56all the people who hated on him, and then to be kicked away,
25:00and then the Suffolks to win the championship once he leaves.
25:03That has to be tough on him as a player.
25:07Yeah, no, no doubt, man.
25:09He actually got his old look back.
25:11I don't know if you've seen him.
25:12He recently did an event, a charity event.
25:15He's got his hair kind of like mine, in a sense,
25:18or maybe a little shorter.
25:19But remember before he grew his hair out?
25:21Yeah, he's back to the short hair look.
25:23And I'm looking forward to see how he bounces back on the court, man.
25:27Hopefully he can get out there soon.
25:28But I'm with you, Max.
25:29He's certainly on people's minds, for sure.
25:31Suffolks Nation, I saw a lot of tweets out there talking about Marcus,
25:34you know, shouting him out.
25:36And rightfully so, man.
25:37He gave his heart and soul to this team for nine years.
25:39Like you said, though, it was part of the sacrifice
25:42into putting this team together.
25:43And, yeah, you can't help but think about him for sure.
25:47But one of the things I want to definitely talk about
25:51for a few minutes here, I know you touched on it earlier,
25:53but Jalen Brown winning the finals MVP,
25:55I can't say enough about how happy I am for Jalen.
25:58Signing the richest contract in NBA history,
26:01you know, what goes into that and the pressure and all that.
26:03And he passed every test with flying colors, if you ask me.
26:07Just gave everything he had this season,
26:09made a commitment to the defensive end of the floor
26:11from the very beginning,
26:12and it really showed throughout the postseason.
26:15You know, he was not afraid to take on
26:17the opposing team's best player.
26:19He showed out, you know, he put forth the effort
26:22that I thought really just resonated
26:24with the rest of the team.
26:25And at the end, he's not only a champion,
26:27but a finals MVP, won the MVP
26:29after winning the Eastern Conference Finals.
26:30And to me, it was about what he did
26:32on the defensive end of the floor
26:33and the efficiency on offense.
26:35You know, 44% shooting from the floor,
26:38just really giving it to the Dallas Mavericks
26:40on both ends of the floor.
26:42And I thought it was well-deserved.
26:43And I'm glad it wasn't as close
26:45as some people would have thought, you know,
26:47given the fact that, yeah, Tatum averaged more points,
26:49you know, may have averaged more rebounds.
26:52But at the end of the day, I thought it really,
26:54Jalen got my vote, if you ask me,
26:56because of, again, the defense, the efficiency,
26:59and just the consistency we saw
27:01throughout the entire series from Jalen.
27:03Yeah, he did.
27:04I mean, there's no doubt.
27:06I walked up to him at the little ceremony
27:09they had the other day before they got the dug votes,
27:12and I said, welcome to the club, finals MVP.
27:15Finals MVP club, that's right.
27:17And I laughed, and I said, man, what was your mom?
27:20I said, your mom was crying.
27:22He said, man, my mom was done.
27:24She said she just went back to the room.
27:26She was done after this was, when she cried,
27:29she had nothing else.
27:31She had emptied the tank.
27:34And you did say that.
27:36But, you know, does Joel Embiid want to get mad right now
27:39at the writers who didn't give Jalen Brown an NBA 9?
27:45For real.
27:46Looks like they poured fuel on the fire for him to say,
27:49look, you know, I see all these guys
27:51who aren't as good as me,
27:53and they're getting these accolades.
27:55He said, I'm going to show you.
27:57And he proved his point.
27:59On top of that, to guard Luca.
28:01You know, Luca scored his points, but he worked.
28:05Luca had to work.
28:06A lot of times, Brown would just harass him,
28:08make steals up on him,
28:10and Luca's legs at the end of the day were just,
28:13he didn't have it.
28:14He didn't have it.
28:15The thing that Luca's going to have to do is
28:17he's going to have to be disciplined about one thing,
28:20and that's getting his body in tip.
28:24Luca needs to lose 20 pounds.
28:28He's strong, but lose 20 pounds,
28:31and then maybe put that in muscle on his body
28:35and dedicate that for one year,
28:37and you'll see him being a lot stronger at the end.
28:40He didn't have a lot at the end when it came to,
28:43you know, as much as he scored the ball,
28:45he wasn't as efficient.
28:47He was exhausted, Max.
28:48They made him work.
28:49They made him play the defense.
28:51Yeah, I think that's because of Brown.
28:53Brown made him work, made him work, made him work,
28:57and then where, you know,
28:59when you were talking about Minnesota,
29:01you remember the play everybody talks about right now
29:04was when Luca got that switch.
29:07On Gobert, yeah.
29:08On Gobert, and Gobert was running around like a,
29:11you know, in Dominican land, you know,
29:14where you do a chicken and kill him.
29:16Chicken just kind of running around.
29:18With no head, yeah.
29:19Yeah, he had Gobert running around like that.
29:22Well, the Celtics, on the other hand,
29:25when they made a switch, they set a pick,
29:30and then you had Derek White on it.
29:32You set a pick, you switch,
29:35and then you had Drew Holiday on it.
29:37You switch, and you had Tatum.
29:39Or even Al.
29:40Al got a couple stops in, yeah.
29:42Al had some stops,
29:43so the Celtics' defensive scheme was a lot better.
29:46I think the biggest narrative that I saw
29:48that was in this that was a mistake
29:51was by the writers.
29:52The writers, and you know, boy,
29:55they just, they made Luca and Kyrie
30:00the best duo ever to play the game in the backcourt.
30:05And defensively,
30:08maybe the best duo to defend teams in a long time
30:12might have been Holiday and White.
30:14So you add that to that,
30:17and I think that Brown actually,
30:20and Tatum, because Luca was,
30:22defensively, Luca was not good.
30:26No, he was put on blast.
30:28I think that's a big part of this for sure.
30:30They said he got blown by 60% of the time.
30:3560% just went,
30:37that's damn near like a maitre d' saying,
30:40hey, this way to your table, sir.
30:42This way.
30:43And it puts pressure on everybody.
30:46So I don't know.
30:49I think for them to get back in the mix,
30:54it's going to be tough.
30:56It's going to be tough.
30:57Right.
30:58I mean, it was hard for them to get there this year.
31:00So you can imagine teams are going to come better,
31:03better equipped this time around.
31:04The Denver Nuggets, you got the Minnesota Timberwolves.
31:07I mean, there's hurdles out West for sure,
31:09for the Dallas Mavericks.
31:10But when you swing over to the East though,
31:12you don't see those same type of challenges for the Celtics.
31:16You know, you really don't.
31:17So seeing them back in the NBA finals next year
31:19is a very realistic possibility for sure.
31:22But Max, take me through game, after game five, man,
31:24because I saw you, which is a rare sight, I should say,
31:27for everyone.
31:28Without a blazer, you had the white button up.
31:31You were walking away from the locker room like, man,
31:33you was done by the time I saw you.
31:35But I want to know what you saw throughout that.
31:38I want to say maybe an hour after the final buzzer,
31:40just a celebration and all that.
31:42What was the locker room like, man?
31:43I was down the hall for most of it.
31:45Well, I went into the locker room,
31:47and I had my suit on, as you know,
31:49Normie, splendor attire.
31:51Of course.
31:53And they're like this.
31:55Champagne fly.
31:57Yo, man, do you know what my suit costs?
32:00You know, this Italian whatever.
32:03They try to give you a pair of goggles.
32:05You're like, nah, damn the goggles.
32:07I need to protect all of this.
32:08I don't need that.
32:09So I just took my jacket off.
32:11And my pants and all that stuff got wet.
32:15But it was just a celebration.
32:17They were smoking cigars in there,
32:21and they had the beer flowing.
32:24Here's the thing I'll ask you.
32:26For the parade.
32:29At the parade, they said they didn't want people
32:33who were out in the crowd.
32:37They didn't want public drinking, right?
32:40Right.
32:41Isn't that what they said?
32:43What?
32:44Didn't they say that?
32:45Oh, yeah.
32:46They said that for sure, yeah.
32:47But that's not what I saw.
32:49I saw plenty of that.
32:50But here's the thing I'll ask you.
32:53How can you ask them to not drink,
32:55and everybody on the duck boat is there.
32:59Passing beers and whatnot.
33:00Michelobes.
33:01Yeah, yeah.
33:04Balls of tequila, you know, chugging it down.
33:08I mean, so that was the biggest oxymoron to me,
33:12the fact that you said, hey, we're not
33:14going to let the public drink.
33:16But, you know, we got beer and wine and liquor
33:19flowing on this boat for the next two hours.
33:21That's what we got.
33:22And there's a million people, but, man, it was just a.
33:26The thing I will say, too, is really cool about Boston.
33:30They've been there and done that.
33:32So unlike the mishap in Kansas City or some
33:37of these other places where people have died
33:39and really got injured, Boston, I did not
33:42hear anything about, you know, people
33:44getting hurt at the parade.
33:46They've had enough parades where they understand
33:49how to act, whereas some of these cities,
33:52maybe they're just not used to it.
33:54But Boston is because of the legacy of championships
33:57which have come through here.
33:59It isn't summer in New England without making a trip

35:20man.
35:21It was a heck of a celebration, man.
35:22All positive vibes.
35:23You know, everyone just sort of embracing the moment, man.
35:26Like, yeah.
35:27Yeah, for sure, man.
35:28That's a great point.
35:29And for me, it was my first Celtics parade.
35:31You know, I'm almost ashamed to say that because I've
35:33been to the Patriots.
35:34I've been to the Red Sox, but I didn't get the chance
35:35to go in 08.
35:36So this was super cool for me, man,
35:38taking it in with my friends and not being on the clock
35:41was kind of cool as well.
35:43I did try to catch up with you, but it was so hard to get to
35:45where you were at because I'm on the other side, right?
35:47So by the time I crossed over, everything had kind of
35:49died down or whatever.
35:50But there was still plenty of people celebrating out
35:52in the streets, man.
35:53It was special for sure.
35:54And look, Game 5 that night, man, it flew by.
35:58Like, it was so surreal just to see all the confetti
36:01and everyone celebrating.
36:02All the fans didn't want to leave.
36:04You know, we did our post-game show.
36:06By the time we wrapped up, we did like a late,
36:08we did a post-game, post-game show, late show.
36:10It was about 3 a.m.
36:11Max, 3, 3.30, and there was still plenty of people,
36:14plenty of reporters around getting work done,
36:16but also kind of celebrating, man, because it was
36:18that type of night.
36:20And my favorite moment, though, my favorite moment
36:22of the night, Max, was when Jalen Brown and his friends
36:25came down to the court because someone brought
36:28a basketball out.
36:29Man, we had media players playing.
36:32We had Zarin.
36:33Mike Zarin came back.
36:35He got into, I think it was like a game of 21
36:37these dudes were playing in.
36:38So Jalen heard the ball bouncing.
36:40He came out with his boys and the trophy, and he said,
36:42man, what a beautiful sight, man.
36:44And I'm looking at Jalen like, you know, you do know
36:46we do love this sport too, right, Jalen?
36:48This isn't just our job, right?
36:49Like, we just saw what you did.
36:51We just saw you guys win a championship here, man.
36:54Of course some reporters want to, someone bring
36:55a basketball out.
36:56We're going to get some shots up, man.
36:57We're going to embrace the moment with confetti
36:59on the ground and all that.
37:00It was like a movie, Max.
37:02It was so surreal.
37:03It was like I was dreaming, for sure, man.
37:05Here's the thing that I didn't understand, which I thought
37:07was so cool, and I didn't see it.
37:11Where did they come up with these, with the confetti guns?
37:15Did they just push them in all of a sudden?
37:17Because I didn't, I never, where I-
37:19I'd never seen them before, yeah.
37:21What I said, essentially, is where they rolled them in.
37:24But I never noticed the guns at all until when,
37:28when Eddie said, Suffolk's win, and then all of a sudden
37:32this confetti from four different, these things-
37:35From the corners, right?
37:36I just, the way they were shooting now, it was nonstop.
37:39It was from the corners, and it was such a beautiful
37:44scene of green.
37:46Being in a situation, and to see that, it was, it was,
37:51it was unreal.
37:52But the NBA playing stuff like that.
37:54People say, what is that?
37:55No, what they do, they rehearse it.
37:57They rehearse it, because that's what we did when we rehearsed,
38:01you know, the ceremony that we had in Indiana.
38:05Right.
38:06Had to get the trophy out.
38:08So they rehearsed those points for the Celtics.
38:10They couldn't rehearse it for the Mavericks,
38:12because the Mavericks couldn't win.
38:13Not that night.
38:15So it was a really cool moment to see how everything
38:19kind of went down.
38:21Absolutely, man.
38:22The celebration continues here in the city, man.
38:24You can just feel it.
38:25Everyone rocking their Celtics gear.
38:27You got the ghost Celtics.
38:29You got the murals.
38:30You got it.
38:31The entire city just painted green and white, man.
38:33Everyone celebrates.
38:34It's a beautiful sight.
38:35And it's, it's, it's crazy to think it's been sick.
38:38There it is.
38:39Yes, sir.
38:40How about them damn Celtics?
38:41It's crazy to think it's been 16 years, man.
38:43But you can tell.
38:44You can tell the merch is everywhere.
38:47If you want one, you know, holler at us, man.
38:50Hit us up.
38:51We've had people holler at us.
38:53I think I got Nick Jolso, you know,
38:56our Grand Poupon of this podcast.
39:00Grand Poupon, I like that.
39:02He said the merch, he said the merch is so out.
39:06He said these, how about these damn Celtics?
39:08I was walking and several people came through and they had their shirts on.
39:12How about them damn Celtics?
39:14So it was just, it was, it was hot, man.
39:18It was, it was, it was really cool to, to be there, to see the players and,
39:22and be with the fans.
39:24The fans were so happy and the players, I mean,
39:28Tatum's reaction at the end wasn't kind of like,
39:32like Kevin Garnett because Kevin Garnett was told kind of what to say.
39:36Everything's possible.
39:38Yeah, but he, he, he, he butchered it.
39:40Remember, I think Adidas wanted him to say impossible is nothing.
39:43And he said, anything's possible.
39:44That was the Adidas slogan.
39:47The guy said, okay, Kevin, you got it.
39:50You got it.
39:51You got it.
39:52Impossible is nothing.
39:53And Kevin, Kevin Garnett goes, anything's possible.
39:58And the ref was like, oh God.
40:07You know, cause you know, his boss is calling him up.
40:09Like, yo, you had one job, man.
40:11You had one job.
40:12You had to make sure KG killed his line.
40:14But that line lives in, that's in Celtics history, man.
40:19For sure.
40:21See Tatum though, Tatum was, was just so generic.
40:25The way he said it was like, you know, we did it.
40:28We did it.
40:30We did it.
40:31It was just like, it just hit him.
40:33Oh, that's the only thing that seemed like just came out of his mouth.
40:36We did it.
40:37We did it.
40:38And the coolest moment of the night to me would have been when Jalen got the
40:43MVP, but the first person he acknowledged was Brown.
40:49Was Tatum.
40:50It was Tatum.
40:51Yep.
40:52Couldn't do this without my partner in crime.
40:55Partner in crime.
40:56Love it.
40:57And to me, that was like the biggest moment.
40:59I loved, I got a chance to talk to Ms.
41:03Wharper, Al's wife.
41:05And I said, and I saw that Al didn't go down to Miami.
41:10I said, did you veto that?
41:13She said, you don't need Miami, man.
41:15You're good with that.
41:16And you're good.
41:17Al got five kids at home.
41:19The last thing he needed to do is go talk about being in, as a matter of fact,
41:24Al was at, he was doing the, an appearance.
41:29Yeah.
41:30Yeah.
41:31He did.
41:32Cane's chicken.
41:33Yeah.
41:34Good spot, by the way.
41:35Good spot.
41:36Raising canes.
41:37It's right in Copley.
41:38Yeah.
41:39Yeah.
41:40He did.
41:41He did.
41:42He did an appearance there.
41:43So, I mean, it was, this day is, for them to win it is so cool.
41:50Now, the next thing that happens is, can you, the question starts already.
41:56Can you win again?
41:57And for me, the summertime starts to wind down for me once I get to July the 4th.
42:09July the 4th was right around the corner.
42:13Yeah, man.
42:14It's coming up.
42:15This is the key though.
42:18How is Tatum going to react this year?
42:21Because he's on the Olympic team.
42:23When does he have a chance to rest?
42:26His girlfriend is about to have a baby.
42:29He is going to be, he is going to be pull that, tuck that, everything right now.
42:35How does he exhale a chance to do that without everybody with Dattaboy and all that, LeBron?
42:44Right.
42:45And before you know it, he's going to sign that, he's going to sign for that new bag he got.
42:50New bag and then you're going to be right back in the middle of the season.
42:54So, it's going to be that narrative.
42:57And then what I hear is the Celtics are possibly going to Dubai.
43:02So, if they go to Dubai, you know, for an exhibition.
43:07For the preseason game.
43:08Yeah, yeah, that's right.
43:09Yeah, yeah.
43:10So, man, your schedule is already full.
43:16And, you know, he loves making appearances and doing commercials and all that.
43:21How will he manage all this summer?
43:24How will he manage this stuff?
43:26The superstar status, man, for sure.
43:29He's got a championship ring coming.
43:31He's got the status as a Celtics champ.
43:34And plenty of opportunities to add to that, man, for sure.
43:39But, yeah, man, it's a good point.
43:41I just love the way he's matured as a player.
43:45You know, his approach has shown that.
43:47You know, he didn't go into this being like, I got to win the finals MVP or I got to put up these 30 points a game so I can shut up these critics.
43:54No, he kept his focus.
43:55He knew what was best for this team.
43:57And that's a testament to who he is as a player for sure, man.
44:00The highs and lows, what he went through a couple of years ago.
44:04I mean, all that is what turned him into who he is today.
44:08And I'm super proud of him, man.
44:09He's the NBA champion for sure.
44:11Absolutely.
44:13I can remember the seat when they lost in Miami of going into the locker room and him having his head buried and his ankle was, you know, in a bucket of a tub of ice.
44:29And you could just see the agony, the pain that he and it was able to come out of it.
44:37And the testament of who he is as a person, this organization and all the Laker haters.
44:45My goodness.
44:46This is.
44:47Enjoy it.
44:48And when I was on when I was on TMZ, you know, it was I loved every moment.
44:56I was sitting on my floor doing a podcast with TMZ and just talking about the Celtics and, you know, all the hatred that I had from, you know, Michael Cooper.
45:08No, man.
45:10I forgot about who he's been quiet.
45:12They're awfully quiet.
45:13These last couple of weeks.
45:14You hear that from them brothers no more, man.
45:16I gotta go.
45:17I gotta go.
45:18You know what?
45:19I gotta get up with Nick to go on Coop's podcast.
45:23You should.
45:24Yeah, man.
45:25I'm breaking something.
45:26I haven't seen an episode.
45:27I get James worthy on that podcast with me because, you know, when we were losing them haters, they all up.
45:34But when you win, the haters disappear.
45:37So ain't that the truth?
45:39Yeah.
45:40Let me get you out on this, man.
45:41NBA drafts coming up, believe it or not.
45:44The Boston Celtics had the 30th overall pick.
45:47Do you just want to see Boston go out there and just draft Ronnie James?
45:51You know, if he's still on the board, like, do you do that?
45:53Just to sort of be like, oh, oh, hey, Lakers, you want to you want Ronnie?
45:57Well, how bad do you want him?
45:58Who are you?
45:59Who are you willing to give up for this dude right here?
46:01Like as a as a as a as a look, we're going to do whatever it takes to get more assets because we're not done.
46:11So let's see how badly you want.
46:12I want Ronnie James.
46:13Here he is.
46:14So if Ronnie James is worth the circus that will come along with it, the circus that will come along with him.
46:21That's a trade piece, though, Max.
46:23You ain't trying to hold on to him.
46:24You're not going to not going to get him and trade him.
46:28I mean, I think I think it would be to me.
46:30This is this is when I talked to you before, man.
46:33Karma's a bitch.
46:35I'm not here.
46:38I'm saying this.
46:39I'm not fucking with that piece like that.
46:41I'm not doing it.
46:43I thought you were talking about the other side.
46:44That's Lakers karma right there.
46:46I'm not I'm not getting Ronnie James to stick it in the Lakers face and grab me and look for a trade.
46:52No, no, I'm not doing that.
46:54I'm good.
46:55That's this.
46:57Let's stay.
46:58Let's stay classy.
46:59Boston, you know, we go.
47:09Yeah, because, you know, you know, the Soviets don't need another guard, man.
47:12You know, they they don't have it.
47:14They got like seven of them.
47:15So, you know, it would be it would be under those.
47:19Yeah, it'd be under those guidelines.
47:21Yeah, you know, you got Pritchett over there who was dying to play.
47:25You got those two stars over there playing in front of them.
47:28You're playing best defensive back sometimes.
47:31Yeah, what they do.
47:33I mean, you got, you know, Davidson over there.
47:38Davidson is still is still trying to get on.
47:40Right, right.
47:41Get on, you know, with the rack.
47:43I mean, so I don't I don't subscribe to that one that you go out.
47:51Right.
47:52James is not going to change for this team.
47:54This team needs a this team needs somebody who's going back up to the back up to the center.
48:00It's not right.
48:01And I like what they have already.
48:02Luke, I mean, I like what.
48:04Okay.
48:05I like the guys they have there.
48:07So Tillman to.
48:08Yeah.
48:09Yeah.
48:10Tillman.
48:11So, I mean, I don't know where you go.
48:12Where, you know, the chemistry of this team is so good.
48:16The loser is percent going to be back.
48:19You know, I think he's got that option.
48:22Yeah, that's a good question.
48:23Who's going to be who's going to be where.
48:26And that's the key to it.
48:28But guys.
48:29Yeah.
48:30Yeah.
48:31Yeah.
48:32Not going to say real quick.
48:33Yeah.
48:34Yeah.
48:35Yeah.
48:36Yeah.
48:37Yeah.
48:38Yeah.
48:39Yeah.
48:40Yeah.
48:41Yeah.
48:42Yeah.
48:43Yeah.
48:44Yeah.
48:45Yeah.
48:46Yeah.
48:47Yeah.
48:48Yeah.
48:49Yeah.
48:50Yeah.
48:51Yeah.
48:52Yeah.
48:53Yeah.
48:54Yeah.
48:55Yeah.
48:56Yeah.
48:57Yeah.
48:58Yeah.
48:59Yeah.
49:00Yeah.
49:01Yeah.
49:02Yeah.
49:03Yeah.
49:04Yeah.
49:05Yeah.
49:06Yeah.
49:08Yeah.
49:09Yeah.
49:12Yeah.
49:13Yeah.
49:15Yeah.
49:16Yes.
49:20Yeah, he's y'all again.
49:25Bowling part.
49:27Thank you.
49:28Yeah.
49:29he said to me, I'm like, yo man, how you doing? I said, yo man, it's nice to meet you, man.
49:36He said, ping pong, ping pong. And I had Chuck D there, and Chuck D said, he has his own
49:48language. He make up his own language.
49:51And you could tell the way he said it, that was straight up off experience. That wasn't
49:55off of something he heard. He's like, nah, man, I've spoken to this dude, and I don't
49:59even know what he's saying half the damn time.
50:01Yeah, get with us on that one, that podcast.
50:05Yes, sir.
50:06Something about Stevie Wonder, which was amazing. So we were all, our mouths just dropped when
50:13he said something.
50:14Yeah, that was funny, man.
50:15So yeah.
50:16Great stuff, man. Yeah, man, plenty of guests coming up for sure, man. And of course, plenty
50:21of people's reaction to what transpired throughout that NBA Finals for sure, man. All kinds of
50:27content, this offseason, and I can't wait to get into it, man. We're going to really
50:30surprise you with some of these guests we have lined up as well. But like Max just said,
50:34man, you guys make us stronger. Appreciate the support. Everyone who's subscribed, if
