00:10 Cedric Maxwell podcast is powered by Pricepix,
00:14 the exclusive daily fantasy partner of the CLNS Media Network.
00:18 >> All right, Max, we got a pair of game sevens.
00:22 We got Dallas looks like they're about to wrap things up soon.
00:26 And we got another episode of Cedric Maxwell podcast.
00:29 I'm Joseph Pavone alongside Cedric Maxwell.
00:32 The Celtics, they're going back to the Eastern Conference finals.
00:36 Can you believe it, Max?
00:37 It's official after eliminating the Cleveland Cavaliers at the game five,
00:41 impressive game five, Jason Tainor putting together his best performance of the series.
00:47 Al Holford putting together his best performance of the year.
00:50 And the Celtics are now waiting for the winner between the Indiana Pacers and
00:53 the New York Knicks.
00:54 But how are you feeling about that, Max, first and foremost?
00:57 >> Well, I'm happy to see that the Celtics waived the count, put it together.
01:01 They stumbled in game two and people start freaking out again,
01:07 just like they freaked out in Miami.
01:09 And they went into Cleveland, they won game three, won game four, won game five back
01:14 in Boston, and that was a big deal.
01:18 Cleveland, to their credit, they did not have hardly any of their weapons.
01:24 Mowgli put on the show, he was great.
01:27 But they didn't have Spider, he wasn't around,
01:31 Parris LaVert wasn't around.
01:34 Allen wasn't around.
01:35 So this was a shell of a team, but the Celtics took care of business and
01:39 won the game.
01:40 At the end of the day, they don't put on your ring how close the other team is.
01:44 They just say, okay, either you won or you didn't win.
01:48 >> Yeah, absolutely, Max.
01:49 And of course, we'll talk about the Celtics moving forward.
01:52 Which team would Max want the Celtics to face against?
01:55 And also we're gonna bring back big deal or no big deal,
01:58 something that we used to do.
01:59 It's been a while.
02:00 I think we did that last season a couple of times.
02:02 But yeah, we'll bring back that game at the end before we wrap up this episode.
02:06 But Max, can you think of a team that had an easier path to the Eastern Conference
02:13 finals, man?
02:16 I mean, look at these injuries, man.
02:17 No Mitchell for those last two games.
02:19 >> Are you falling into what everybody else is falling in on the national stage?
02:23 >> I'm just asking, man.
02:25 Have you seen an easier path?
02:28 >> As I asked them all the time, I've said,
02:31 the Celtics don't choose the team they play with.
02:35 The other team put the cows on the floor and you play against that team.
02:39 Now, to answer your question, I don't think I have.
02:44 >> [LAUGH] >> Nothing's gonna play a Miami team without
02:48 Jimmy Butler to turn around and play this Cleveland team without the spider for
02:54 a while, couple of games.
02:56 Yeah, I mean, and I think the craziest thing about all that is so
03:00 you sort of look at those two guys are named Donovan Mitchell.
03:05 Will he be there in Cleveland next year?
03:07 And then you said Jimmy Butler, will he be moving some cells,
03:12 taking this talent away from South Beach?
03:15 Here's some of the words that Pat Rowley said.
03:18 He's getting an extension for, I don't know, it's 130, 140 million.
03:25 It was something like $55 million or something.
03:29 And Pat Rowley said, look, we don't wanna use our assets.
03:33 And we're not gonna have a guy who's only gonna play 55 games.
03:37 And then Mitchell, who has been brilliant for Cleveland,
03:42 has one year left on this contract and he can opt out.
03:46 So Cleveland has to think now, okay, what are we gonna do?
03:50 If he doesn't sign an extension and they wanna sign to a max deal,
03:54 if he doesn't sign an extension, what are we gonna do?
03:58 Are we gonna trade him?
03:59 More than likely, you have to make some moves to trade him.
04:02 And the places you hear people talking about is maybe the Lakers.
04:09 Mitchell being out there.
04:11 Cleveland has, I think the Lakers have a bunch of first-round draft picks.
04:17 I know they wanna get rid of some expiring contracts
04:20 and move on beyond some of their players.
04:23 So will he be a guy who would be in--
04:26 would want to play with LeBron James and be in L.A. next year?
04:30 Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what happens during the offseason, man,
04:33 'cause he's certainly at the top of the list in terms of players
04:36 that could be on the move.
04:37 And if you're the Los Angeles Lakers, man,
04:39 you're welcoming any scenario that could bring in someone like Donovan Mitchell
04:44 because, let's face it, man, they're getting to the point where
04:46 there aren't a lot of Donovan Mitchells out there left
04:49 and that window of opportunity for these guys to win a championship
04:52 is getting smaller and smaller, man.
04:54 It's rough out there in the West.
04:56 As they found out from that first-round exit beatdown that they got
05:01 against the Nuggets.
05:03 Well, you start looking at the Lakers and you say,
05:05 "Okay, look at the moves they've made over the years
05:08 of grabbing people and it not working."
05:12 Then we're gonna get Westbrook.
05:14 Westbrook is gonna be--he's a guy.
05:16 We're gonna send this player, that player away, and it hasn't worked.
05:20 Anthony Davis, another guy, obviously that's kind of worked out a lot better
05:24 than the Lakers, but yet still, look at some of the pieces that they lost.
05:31 One in particular, you start thinking about Brandon Ingram
05:34 who's becoming an all-star down in New Orleans.
05:39 They had to give him up.
05:41 The Lakers are in flux, and on top of that,
05:44 who the hell is gonna post the Lakers?
05:46 I mean, I like Byron Scott's scenario, former player for the Lakers.
05:51 He said, "Well, you know, LeBron James wants this, he wants that."
05:55 Well, why didn't he just be the damn coach?
05:58 Why didn't he take the coaching position?
06:01 It would be as unique, and I think he would probably know--
06:05 he knows the game as well as anybody, but man, that would just--
06:09 I don't think anybody wants that wear and tear on their mind
06:12 and their body and everything else that's going along with it
06:15 if, in fact, he was a head coach of the Lakers.
06:18 Yeah, I don't think that-- I don't put that on anyone, man.
06:22 Not to diminish LeBron, who he is as a player,
06:25 but that's just a big, big responsibility.
06:27 At this stage of his career, that's taxing.
06:30 That's a lot to ask of someone, especially in today's day and age
06:33 with social media and all that.
06:35 Like you said, Max, all the talk that goes on with these players now,
06:38 imagine the kind of pressure that that would bring on a player coach in 2024.
06:42 So yeah, I can't wait and see.
06:45 I mean, the list gets longer and longer, and we'll talk about that in a little bit.
06:48 We actually have a question for you, Durando.
06:50 Big deal, no big deal.
06:51 You know what? I'm going to hit you with big deal, no big deal right now,
06:54 -with just one question. -What you got?
06:56 What?
06:57 The hat that Savannah James had on.
07:02 At the Cleveland game.
07:05 -Did you see that? -Oh, I got to see it again, man.
07:09 Oh, my God, man. It was the biggest, fricking--
07:12 I mean, look, a sombrero.
07:15 She's a beautiful woman.
07:17 I'm like, "What the hell? What in the heck was that?"
07:21 So, you know what?
07:24 You know what? You can have it.
07:26 Hey, Max, that's post-Mother's Day, man.
07:29 That's what she was trying to rock.
07:31 -You got to go with it. -I don't give a damn.
07:33 It was Mother's Week.
07:35 And that was--
07:37 If I was sitting behind her--
07:39 I got to see this pic.
07:41 You know what? Why don't you pause for a minute?
07:44 Find Savannah James.
07:45 I'm going to pause on her right now.
07:47 All right, let me see. Hold on one second.
07:50 Savannah James' hat.
07:52 Game four. Let me see here.
07:57 Oh, wow. Okay.
08:00 Man, that almost reminds me of those--
08:03 Man, T-Pain used to rock that joint.
08:07 He did the big--
08:10 What?
08:11 I ain't trying to say--
08:12 I don't want to call it a circus hat,
08:14 but you know what I mean?
08:15 Like in the circus where they have those big--
08:17 Exactly.
08:19 I mean, this is a beautiful woman.
08:21 How did I miss that?
08:23 Like, deal or no big deal?
08:25 You're sitting behind her.
08:26 What would you say?
08:28 That's a big deal.
08:30 That's a big deal.
08:32 How are you?
08:33 Excuse me, miss.
08:35 Do you mind?
08:38 Can you just--
08:40 During the game, can you take that thing off?
08:44 No disrespect. No disrespect.
08:47 See the usher coming up, tapping on the shoulder.
08:50 People behind you can't see.
08:54 Excuse me.
08:55 You know the whole row behind you of people?
08:57 They can't see shit, man.
08:58 Can you--
08:59 You can't see shit.
09:00 Here's the funniest thing about it.
09:02 The funniest thing about all that was
09:05 you know she had to take that bitch off in the car.
09:08 You know?
09:09 [laughter]
09:12 You're not getting in with that shit.
09:15 He couldn't drive because damn--
09:18 That was a piece of--
09:20 Even the biggest SUV, yo.
09:22 Yo, you can't see shit.
09:24 [laughter]
09:27 Yeah, that's a good point.
09:28 I saw it coming in the game.
09:30 I'm like, "Wow, there's LeBron."
09:32 I'm like, "What in the world?"
09:34 [laughter]
09:36 Now, look, Savannah, she's such a beautiful woman.
09:40 Beautiful. Beautiful.
09:42 Let me tell you--
09:43 Her face is tucked in all the way
09:45 so you can barely see her face.
09:46 Beautiful woman.
09:47 I was like--
09:48 I couldn't even see her head.
09:51 It was like I could just see her eyes
09:53 and like she was under something.
09:55 Damn.
09:56 That's fur, too.
09:57 That's got to be fur.
09:58 That's fur.
09:59 Exactly.
10:00 And it was 79 degrees in Cleveland that day.
10:04 [laughter]
10:06 That was the hottest day of the week.
10:08 [laughter]
10:11 You know you had to have the fucking AC
10:15 blasting in that car.
10:17 [laughter]
10:21 Just to pull off the look, she's sitting there like,
10:23 "Yo, drink that up."
10:25 [laughter]
10:26 It's hot in here.
10:28 It's hot in here.
10:29 It's hot in here.
10:31 Oh, okay.
10:32 You got like 80 degree heat.
10:35 Okay, let's try to get back.
10:38 That's a great big deal and no big deal.
10:40 All right, I'll give you that one.
10:42 That's a big deal.
10:43 That's a big deal.
10:44 Let's get back to that.
10:47 Get back to where we were, but that was just--
10:49 All right.
10:50 --end to end.
10:51 [laughter]

11:46 [music]
11:54 -All right, before we do big deal, no big deal.
11:57 Knicks, Pacers, Game 7.
12:00 I'm not surprised that this thing is going 7.
12:03 It really, like what the Indiana Pacers did Friday night
12:05 didn't surprise me at all.
12:07 Wasn't even close. That doesn't surprise me.
12:09 But going into this Game 7,
12:11 Josh Hart and his injury, his projection,
12:16 you know, is he going to be on--
12:18 What's he going to look like in Game 7?
12:20 That worries me a little bit for this Knicks team, man,
12:22 because they're already shorthanded enough.
12:24 How do you feel about them going into Game 7?
12:26 -This is-- I'm not a Monty Python guy,
12:30 but I guess it's some segment where a Black Knight is fighting
12:34 and he chops off his arm.
12:35 He's like, "God, that's just some flesh rolling."
12:37 Chops off the leg and chops--
12:39 He said-- And then finally, at the end,
12:42 all he had was a head.
12:44 I mean, that is--
12:47 -That Donovan right now?
12:48 -That's crazy.
12:49 -He's banged up, too.
12:50 He's nowhere near 100%.
12:51 -I mean, you keep talking about the possibility of the series.
12:56 What happens if New York wins
12:58 and the Southerners have four men,
13:01 you know, have all their pieces,
13:03 and the Knicks don't have any?
13:05 I mean, who are the Knicks missing right now?
13:08 That's what you start looking at.
13:09 Who are the Knicks missing?
13:10 -Julius Randle.
13:11 -Julius Randle.
13:12 -Mr. Robinson.
13:13 -Mr. Robinson.
13:14 -McDonough.
13:15 -O.G.
13:16 -McDonough.
13:17 -Is O.G. going to be--
13:18 Oh, yeah, there's another one, yeah.
13:20 I'm not going to lie.
13:21 McDonough--
13:23 -McDonough, yeah, that's right.
13:25 -Now you're talking about Josh Hart.
13:28 -Josh Hart.
13:29 -So you're talking about five players
13:31 who play significant minutes for the Knicks
13:34 who will not be around.
13:36 So if you're the Celtics,
13:38 an easier path would be if you played New York.
13:42 I thought New York would be the hardest
13:44 because, you know, their attitude,
13:46 their cockiness, their arrogance,
13:48 all that stuff that goes along with the Knicks.
13:50 But, man, they just lost too many pieces to me.
13:54 I just don't see them--
13:56 I don't see them beating Indiana.
13:58 I don't see them beating Indiana.
14:00 Indiana is deep,
14:02 and they have so many guys right now
14:04 that are throwing at, you know, Brunson.
14:08 So New York, how do you compete?
14:11 I mean, Tims has done a great job to get it to seven,
14:15 but not to go home?
14:17 The Spartan crowd is going to have to push you like hell
14:20 to get over that finish line
14:22 because they know--
14:23 because Brunson's been battling.
14:25 He's been battling, and, you know,
14:29 Devin Chinzo, he's--
14:31 -Yeah, they need a big one from Dante, man.
14:33 -I mean, Dante, where he's at,
14:35 I just don't know where you get it.
14:37 I don't know where you get the points.
14:39 I don't know where you get the--
14:41 I don't know where you get it.
14:43 You know, they've been rebounding like hell,
14:46 and one of their best rebounders has been Josh Hart.
14:49 -Yeah.
14:50 -He's had 16, 17 rebounds in the game.
14:53 He's probably not going to play
14:55 because the way he was doubled over,
14:57 and it was his ab area, how's he going to play?
15:01 So I just think this whole thing,
15:04 the dream that you want,
15:06 the dream that my broadcast partner Sean Gradney wants,
15:09 the New York Knicks,
15:11 I just can't see it happening.
15:13 And if it does, it's going to be only a shell of what it could be.
15:18 But, you know, Sutherland's going to play
15:20 whatever they're going to play.
15:23 So I think that was pretty much it.
15:28 -Second half Brunson, man.
15:30 That's the only way I really see this thing happen.
15:32 If he goes off, puts the team on his back,
15:35 yeah, Max, it might have to look like that,
15:37 but they have to defend.
15:39 They have to defend at a high level.
15:40 They can't let this thing get out of hand
15:42 because you know the Pacers can put up a lot of points.
15:44 And these guys barely--they barely scratched 100,
15:46 you know, in that last game.
15:48 And, you know, towards the end of that,
15:50 obviously it was already a blowout.
15:52 And, yeah, they had a hard time putting up 100 points.
15:54 I mean, that's just--that's not going to cut it.
15:56 So I honestly, between that, Dante going off,
15:59 maybe you get something out of that.
16:01 But the defense is what worries me,
16:03 especially up front, you know.
16:06 It's getting thin, very thin.
16:08 -Achua.
16:10 -It's Precious and Hartenstein.
16:12 That's it. That's the fronts.
16:14 That's--those are their bigs.
16:16 -That's it.
16:18 I mean, you don't have anybody else to go.
16:20 I just don't, you know, and I just think that,
16:23 you know, you look at what the Pacers have right now.
16:27 And they've been taking the ball to the basket.
16:30 -Paschal. Paschal's been on.
16:32 -Paschal's been unbelievable.
16:34 And Connell, he's been great.
16:38 And he's battling Brunson tooth and nail.
16:41 He seems like he's that competitor
16:43 that wants to get up in it.
16:45 He's not big enough to slow him,
16:47 to stop and block his shot.
16:49 But he's quick enough to stay on the ball
16:52 and at least to challenge his shot.
16:55 -How do you feel about that potential matchup
16:57 against the Celtics, considering Chris Dasporzinga
17:00 is most likely not going to start the series?
17:02 -Okay.
17:04 -That slated to kick off in Boston Tuesday night
17:06 at TD Garden.
17:08 You know, you got Miles Turner up front.
17:10 You got Topham.
17:11 You know, you got some big stuff up front.
17:12 How do you feel about a potential matchup
17:14 against the Celtics without Brunsinger?
17:15 -Yeah, that's going to be --
17:17 It'll make it a lot tougher.
17:18 I think the Celtics are still capable
17:20 of winning a series without Kristoff.
17:23 But, you know, the sooner he gets back, the better.
17:27 -Mm.
17:28 -That's going to be from a shape standpoint
17:30 to get back in condition.
17:32 I think you and everybody else has said,
17:34 "We haven't even seen Kristoff play 5-on-5 yet."
17:37 -Yeah, man. That's what scares me.
17:39 -So because of that, you know, how do you roll these dice?
17:44 What do you have?
17:46 I mean, Miles Turner has played great against the Celtics.
17:49 He's a big body.
17:53 So are you pulling again
17:57 or are you still riding Al Horford for another series?
18:00 That's essentially what you're saying to me.
18:03 -Although, you know, I like Luke coming off Cornette.
18:07 I like him being a guy coming off the bench,
18:10 competing at a high level with that position.
18:12 The Celtics still, like, they have more --
18:14 they have more weapons
18:17 than possibly anybody right now in the East.
18:21 -Yeah. No, no question.
18:23 I think the bench has --
18:26 I mean, I don't want to say they've gotten stronger,
18:28 but I feel like guys like Pritchard and stuff,
18:30 Cornette, I mean, from the moment
18:32 Kristaps went down, I feel like they've sort of taken on --
18:35 taken on more responsibility, I guess, you know,
18:37 is the best way to put it.
18:39 And Cornette, man, that first game,
18:41 it was like two blocks in the first two minutes.
18:43 Remember that? Like, coming off the bench.
18:45 I mean, I think they can survive that approach,
18:49 you know, without Porzingis to begin the series.
18:52 But if we're talking about deep into the series,
18:54 going into the finals and all that,
18:56 they're going to eventually need Kristaps.
18:57 But I think this is the right thing to do.
18:59 Take your time. You know, you don't want to rush this thing.
19:01 You want to make sure he's going to be all right.
19:03 So, but yeah, we're talking about almost three weeks now.
19:06 You know, we spoke briefly last night, Max, about it.
19:09 And I'm like, man, it's been almost three weeks.
19:11 So hopefully we'll see him continue to progress.
19:13 I like what I saw out in Cleveland
19:16 when he's in the post and all that.
19:18 But like I said, until we see him doing the five-on-five
19:20 up and down the floor with the rest of his guys,
19:22 that's when I know he's close, you know?
19:24 -So did you see him just warming up out there?
19:27 -He was working in the post. He was working his post moves.
19:30 So the footwork and...
19:31 -OK, so he was out on the floor working.
19:33 -He was out on the floor, right, which was a step up
19:36 from what we saw at the Auerbach Center
19:38 before we left for Cleveland.
19:40 -How do you think he looked?
19:42 -He looked good. He looked much better, you know?
19:44 I thought at the Auerbach Center, he was still very, you know,
19:48 like he was just still trying to get the rhythm down.
19:51 But he looked much more fluid.
19:53 They had the Bad Bunny going. I guess he's a big Bad Bunny fan.
19:56 And Derek White joked, "Hey, whatever we can do to help," he said,
19:59 "if this pushes things along quicker, man,
20:01 we can blast Bad Bunny for you, man."
20:03 So they did that as he finished his workout.
20:06 -What's happening in Europe right now?
20:08 What is it? I don't understand that.
20:11 Where do you come up with, like, a Bad Bunny?
20:14 -Bad Bunny.
20:15 -Bad Bunny.
20:16 -It was his nickname growing up in Puerto Rico,
20:18 or the Bunny part. I think he just added the "Bad."
20:21 They used to call him, like, Bunny.
20:22 It's a long story, but, yeah, that's how he got his name.
20:25 -How do you--
20:26 Where is this Puerto Rican thing going right now?
20:29 Bad Bunny.
20:30 -This Puerto Rican thing?
20:31 You mean reggaeton? You mean the genre?
20:33 -Hold on, hold on, hold on.
20:35 Bad Bunny, Big Papi.
20:37 -Oh, I see what you're saying.
20:39 -That's what I'm not talking about that way.
20:42 I'm talking about names that you have these guys.
20:45 -Yeah, that's what you're like. Okay.
20:48 -I know.
20:49 And Bad Bunny came from when he was a kid, so that's funny.
20:54 You would think he got that name once he became popular in the States,
20:57 but that's his name.
20:59 Porzingis loves it, man.
21:00 Porzingis loves reggaeton, man.
21:02 He's a big fan.
21:03 All those time spent in Spain, you know?
21:06 -Wow.
21:07 Wow.
21:08 You got me back thinking about--
21:11 You know, we always--
21:13 -You got to ask him next time you see him, yo.
21:16 Let's bump some Bad Bunny, yo.
21:18 Tell him next time you see Chris Daddy.
21:19 I want to hear some Bad Bunny.
21:20 -Do you think Brunson's head could have fit that girl's hat?
21:27 Do you think that--
21:28 [laughter]
21:32 -Yo, you better leave that girl alone.
21:34 You better watch it.
21:35 If it messes around, this thing's going to go viral.
21:37 [laughter]
21:40 Post-Mother's Day, yo.
21:41 Leave that woman alone, Max.
21:44 Leave her alone.
21:45 [laughter]
21:46 -Look, just so you know, since she's a beautiful woman,
21:48 but that hat was--
21:52 -That was wild.
21:53 -I can't--
21:54 -I'm surprised I missed that, man.
21:56 I had to look that up.
21:57 That was crazy.
21:58 -Everybody-- you missed it?
21:59 Everybody at the game.
22:01 There were 20,000 people there looking right--
22:04 [laughter]
22:05 -And they had--
22:06 -You know what?
22:07 I'm glad--
22:08 -They had her on camera.
22:09 -I was going to say, you know what?
22:11 I'm glad you're bringing this back up,
22:12 because it's a perfect segue into big deal or no big deal.
22:16 All right?
22:17 Let's do it, Max.
22:18 First one, first one up, and I swear, it's the first one.
22:21 I just can't make this up.
22:23 LeBron James-- I didn't mention his wife,
22:26 but LeBron James attended game four of the Caz and Celtics series.
22:31 Of course, LeBron has a player option for the upcoming year.
22:34 When asked about it after the Lakers were eliminated,
22:37 he gave the classic, "I'm thinking about my family.
22:40 I want to spend time with my friends, yada, yada, yada,"
22:43 a.k.a. you find out when you find out.
22:46 But is this a big deal or no big deal, Max?
22:49 Could there be a potential reunion in the works
22:52 between the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James?
22:55 What do you think?
22:56 -Well, if you're the Cavaliers, do you want to sign Bronny to a contract?
23:03 Because everybody's been talking about that.
23:05 -I think they should.
23:06 I think they should look into it.
23:08 -Bronny James at 6'1" is not a good shooter.
23:12 He's a decent shooter, small, you know,
23:17 not the facilitator everybody thinks he should be.
23:20 And I was Mark Spears, and I talked to a couple of guys who were scouts.
23:28 And the scout said, "Nah."
23:31 He talked to him the first day.
23:32 He said, "Nah, I'm not really sure."
23:35 Then he talked to him the third day after he saw Bronny James
23:39 and said, "Nah, he's not meant to be for the NBA.
23:45 His talent level is not what he can bring to the table."
23:51 Because of his size, being small at 6'1".
23:54 6'1 1/2 in the NBA, that's tough.
23:58 I mean, that's tough.
24:00 Donovan Mitchell is like 6'4".
24:03 Some of these guys are 6'5".
24:05 So as a guard, what happened to Kimba?
24:08 Kimba was 6'1".
24:10 And every time we looked around, they were picking on Kimba defensively.
24:15 So it's just--it would be tough.
24:18 So if you talk about LeBron being at the Cavs game,
24:22 I don't think it was a big deal.
24:25 He said him and his wife were actually in Cleveland,
24:32 in Akron for Mother's Day.
24:33 They went to see their mothers.
24:35 So I don't see a big deal, but the only thing about it,
24:39 LeBron has always been calculated.
24:42 So, you know, step on that floor,
24:45 maybe I shouldn't get too carried away by saying no big deal.
24:50 Well, I'm thinking no big deal because I think it's, like you said,
24:53 I think it's more of a calculated type of little wink at the Lakers,
24:57 "Hey, this is always a possibility as well," something like that.
25:00 But does he go through with it?
25:01 I don't think so.
25:02 But he's going to make people like us talk about it,
25:05 and here I am bringing it up.
25:06 So there's that.
25:07 All right.
25:08 According to a report out of Yahoo Sports,
25:10 Kristen Peek reports that Bronny James is climbing up recent mock drafts
25:16 and the Utah Jazz, with the 32nd pick in the 2024 draft, are interested.
25:21 That's right, our old friend Danny Ainge.
25:23 Big deal or no big deal?
25:25 I don't--no big deal.
25:27 I just don't see Danny guarding the guy for small size.
25:32 And LeBron James keeps saying how he wants to play with his son.
25:37 If his son goes to Utah, are you going to follow him?
25:40 Are you going to leave L.A.?
25:41 Are you going to go to Salt Lake City?
25:43 I think Danny's calling his bluff.
25:45 I think he would call his bluff, honestly.
25:47 Are you committed to that?
25:49 And I love LeBron James, love him.
25:54 But at this point in his career, LeBron James has to take a backseat.
26:02 And he might even want to take a backseat.
26:06 He said that before with Anthony Davis.
26:09 But the majority of the time, players are going to push that legend ahead of them.
26:15 And so if you have a young team, you have a young team like Cleveland,
26:20 like Salt Lake City, I think you impede their progress.
26:27 LeBron James would be better off with a veteran team that would not defer to him.
26:34 Yeah, man, I think it's a big deal.
26:36 Because if you're Danny, you go for it and just see what happens.
26:40 You got a whole stack of future first and future second round.
26:44 Why not throw one for Bronny?
26:46 And if it means a deal where you can collect more assets or a star, let's do it, man.
26:51 He's in a great position right now.
26:53 It's kind of a -- it's a win-win.
26:57 What win-win do you see if you get Bronny?
27:00 What win-win?
27:02 Another organization thinking that that's their way to get LeBron James.
27:05 And if Utah could even stir that type of conversation with LeBron,
27:09 if you're Danny, I think you roll the dice.
27:11 I mean, don't you look at Giannis' brother being right there in Milwaukee?
27:16 What does he do for Giannis while he's there?
27:19 I know, that's true.
27:21 Not much.
27:23 He actually needs surgery, Maxwell.
27:26 Wish him well, Thanasis.
27:28 He hurt his Achilles, I want to say.
27:30 Was it Achilles?
27:32 What?
27:33 I know.
27:34 I know.
27:35 That's been the joke on social media.
27:39 [Laughter]
27:41 Maybe he got up too quick when he was getting everybody hyped up for something.
27:45 I don't know.
27:48 Hey, that joke writes itself, man.
27:50 Yeah, I'm with you, man.
27:53 I don't know.
27:55 Get Bronny's son.
27:57 Get the Bronny's son to get Bronny to do what?
28:01 I mean, it just doesn't fit.
28:04 I'm just glad the Celtics aren't involved with that type of mess.
28:07 You know what I mean?
28:10 Because, again, teams that don't have a whole lot to lose, I get it.
28:14 But other teams that are in the mix, championship contenders, they're out of it.
28:18 That's the way it should be.
28:19 That's the way it should be.
28:21 Playoff time, there is nothing like it.
28:24 I mean, the energy, the effort amps up a good 50% to 75% compared to the regular season.
28:29 And that's why you want to go to game time, the authorized ticket marketplace of the NBA.

30:05 JJ Redick among three top targets for the Lakers head coach position.
30:10 Sam Cassell is one.
30:11 The other one is James Borrego.
30:13 Used to coach the Hornets for years.
30:15 This is out of the Athletic reporting that.
30:18 JJ, the sharpshooter, co-host of Mind of the Game podcast alongside LeBron James.
30:24 Big deal or no big deal, Max?
30:26 This one.
30:28 You've been shaking your head every single one of these.
30:30 This one makes me scratch my head.
30:32 It makes me scratch my head.
30:33 This one's crazy, man.
30:35 This is crazy because I love JJ Redick as a broadcaster.
30:41 I love his podcast.
30:43 I love what he does.
30:45 But as a head coach in this league who's never been a head coach and putting him
30:51 into one of the most difficult situations that you can be in and then have one of
30:57 your best friends trying to coach him, how do you chew his ass out?
31:01 [Laughter]
31:05 You know, one of the greatest point guards in the game became a head coach
31:12 with no experience.
31:14 His name was Steve Nash.
31:17 I did that workout for everybody.
31:20 Never coached a game.
31:22 Was a consultant and then all of a sudden you just made him a head coach.
31:26 I just – I don't know.
31:29 It would – for me, for me personally, I would love to see that circuit right now.
31:35 Go to the locker room.
31:37 [Laughter]
31:41 If you have Celtic in you, you want to see this mess.
31:44 Max is like, "Where's my popcorn at?
31:46 Let me make a bag of popcorn."
31:48 Look, only that kind of shit could be in Hollywood.
31:51 You think of that.
31:53 You think of that.
31:54 Only – the only kind of shit – that's the only place it could be because JJ –
31:58 Absolutely.
31:59 He is so opinionated.
32:01 He – and he speaks on – he goes back and forth with this stuff.
32:07 He's kind of went backhand and slapped LeBron James
32:11 and then turned around and slapped Bob Cousy and those great –
32:16 Oh, that's right.
32:18 He did say that shit.
32:19 It's like – so what happens if somebody starts asking you those questions again?
32:25 I mean he's been able to defend himself, but man, that's just –
32:29 Yeah, but Max, he's never – you said – you talk about head coach?
32:33 Oh, that's Jurassic Park right there.
32:36 Jurassic Park 6.
32:38 That's where that is.
32:39 Rambo 29.
32:41 Whatever you want to put out there, if you have all that stuff in one room,
32:46 that powder keg in one room?
32:50 There's a blockbuster right there.
32:52 Blockbuster head.
32:53 Give JJ some advice.
32:55 JJ, sit in your seat, man.
32:57 Play your role.
32:58 Sit in your seat.
32:59 Do TV.
33:00 Collect that check for a long time, brother.
33:03 Yeah, man.
33:04 I don't know if you want that hot seat right now that Brian Payne that's out there in L.A.
33:10 is like crazy.
33:13 I was going to say, Max, you talk about head coaches.
33:15 He's never been an assistant.
33:16 No.
33:17 He hasn't even spent a couple years at Duke, his alma mater,
33:21 to kind of get that experience on the bench.
33:24 He's got no experience.
33:25 Steve Nash.
33:26 Steve Nash, exactly.
33:28 Did not have the experience, came in and did this, and you're like,
33:32 it didn't work there.
33:34 So all of a sudden you think now it's going to work with one of the most chaotic.
33:39 You know, Frank Vogel had won the championship.
33:47 They had played well.
33:49 Then you think about all the other coaches which came after him.
33:54 You're going, okay, this guy got to the Western Conference Final, you know,
33:59 and you fire him.
34:01 That's just not an interesting job to me if I'm out there looking for a coaching position.
34:08 Yeah, no, I'm with you, Max.
34:10 Like you said, man, he's been crushing it with the podcast, with the experience on ESPN as an analyst and all that.
34:18 He's got a long, long future ahead of him.
34:20 He don't need to jump into this.
34:23 You don't need that kind of problem.
34:26 I hope that JJ Redick is smarter than this.
34:30 And I don't know who they're going to get as a coach out in L.A., but as Zobo would say, good luck.
34:39 What about Sam?
34:40 You think Sam Kassucka will get it?
34:44 You would hate to see it, though.
34:45 That's the thing.
34:46 I knew you were going to say that.
34:53 Coming from a situation here in Boston which things have been smooth and tranquil to go out to be the head coach of the Lakers.
35:05 It's a tough gig.
35:06 Tough gig, man.
35:08 Tough gig.
35:09 You know, you talk about stuff right now.
35:11 I end up having a pair of -- I'll show you this real quick off camera.
35:15 I'll bring it back.
35:16 I just got these -- watch this advertisement.
35:22 Oh, man, you got the specs.
35:25 The Cassell glasses, man.
35:29 You got the Cassell joints.
35:31 Yeah, yeah.
35:32 The Cassell glasses.
35:33 I hope the brother luck.
35:35 I would love for him.
35:37 Because one thing you look at Sam --
35:38 Can I just say, yo, he's the first assistant coach I've ever seen ink an endorsement deal.
35:44 That's what's up, man.
35:45 He got the commercial down and everything.
35:46 Look at you.
35:47 The thing about Sam which is crazy to me is I started looking at him going his window of opportunity is closing.
35:56 So he might have to take a job like that.
36:00 Yeah, I agree.
36:01 You know, he's 50 -- I think I was just looking at him.
36:04 Sam is 58 or 59 years old or something like that.
36:10 And if you don't get those coaching jobs early in your career, in your 40s, 30s, your opportunities are very small.
36:19 So, man, with Sam being there, I don't know.
36:23 I should just be -- I should just keep this up like the legend.
36:30 So we'll see.
36:32 Looking good.
36:33 Yeah, man, we'll see.
36:35 But that would be great if he get a head coaching job.
36:38 Even if it's not the Lakers, maybe something else out there.
36:41 But the Lakers, I don't know, man, it would be one of those situations where I think he could -- he's the player's coach for sure.
36:46 I wouldn't want him to have a team that isn't on the hot seat immediately.
36:55 I don't think that's the job your first coach can give.
36:59 That's a tough one right there, a tough one.
37:02 Right.
37:03 And if he were to get the position, he'd be the second assistant coach to be named as head coach for another team,
37:11 as Charles Lee accepted the head coaching job over in Charlotte, the Charlotte Hornets.
37:17 So congrats to him.
37:19 He'll, of course, stick with the Celtics throughout the rest of the playoffs, and he'll begin next season down in Charlotte.
37:25 All right, last one, Max.
37:26 Big deal, no big deal.
37:28 Paul Pierce on a recent episode of Undisputed slipped up and said the N-word, man, said it to Keyshawn Johnson.
37:36 At least it wasn't to Skip Bayless, but Skip Bayless, his whole body language was like, I am not comfortable right now.
37:41 You see Skip?
37:44 Big deal or no big deal, Paul Pierce slipping up on live television.
37:50 Paul Pierce is like the Teflon Don.
37:55 He's got, things just don't stick.
37:58 He's going to be all right, no big deal.
38:00 He's going to be all right, but I think the example is exactly what you said with Paul.
38:06 He just got, he forgot where the fuck he was at.
38:09 He thought he was doing his podcast.
38:14 He thought he was kicking it with KG.
38:16 Yeah, yeah, we talked about it before we hit record.
38:18 You know everything, you know, but when he was, he just forgot.
38:25 He just had a brain fart.
38:27 As soon as he said, look at this, as soon as he said it, he just paused for a second and he just kept talking, which is the right thing to do.
38:33 You don't acknowledge it, just keep going.
38:35 You know Skip wanted to say something, but he's like, man, if I bring it up, we all got to talk about it for at least a minute.
38:40 So he's like, everyone just.
38:42 Look, they, you can't.
38:44 That shit was hilarious.
38:46 You can't do it on air.
38:48 But I like how it's thick.
38:50 Look at these niggas.
38:52 Look at this nigga.
38:55 Yeah, what would Grady say?
38:57 Oh.
39:00 What would Grady say if you slipped up?
39:06 We'd be the ones missing out on the facial expression, man, but man, to see that on camera would be hilarious.
39:14 Oh my God.
39:16 It's past whatever.
39:18 It's past whatever.
39:20 What would he say?
39:21 What would he say?
39:22 Come on, Max.
39:23 I don't even know.
39:24 The first time out, the first time out, what was he saying?
39:28 I think first you hear awkward silence, and then, which is even a killer on the radio, makes it that much worse.
39:37 So I don't know, man.
39:40 You just hear the sneakers squeaking and all that.
39:42 No one's saying nothing.
39:45 I don't even.
39:47 Don't put that word in my mind, okay?
39:54 Look at that.
39:58 Yeah, man, 2024, I think is no big deal, but if this was like 20 years ago, oh, man, I don't know.
40:06 He might lose one of his gigs.
40:08 He might have lost one of his gigs.
40:10 You had Cedric Mice, who was saying bacon and eggs, and I was mocking Tommy.
40:15 I wasn't even talking about the -- I really wasn't talking about the woman, but I was mocking Tommy.
40:20 Right, but if you said that today, though, you know it would be worse.
40:24 Oh, God.
40:25 Oh, God.
40:26 But you're right, though.
40:27 You were not even quoting someone else, but you were pretending to be someone else, technically.
40:33 That's right.
40:35 Right, exactly.
40:37 I was mocking Tommy Heinz.
40:40 Tommy used to say some borderline stuff, too.
40:43 Remember what Tommy used to say?
40:46 He used to go all on the female officials, the representative.
40:51 And the funny thing about it was this spring, early spring, I did a St. Patty's Day.
41:06 I was a grand marshal at a parade in Cranston, Rhode Island, I think.
41:12 Oh, okay.
41:13 And it's the world's shortest parade.
41:15 It's 84 feet.
41:17 And so I ended up doing the parade, and then I did the game afterwards.
41:22 But during the time I was signing autographs, and a woman comes in.
41:28 I really didn't pay much attention.
41:30 I was signing autographs.
41:31 Then she had me sign this jersey.
41:33 Well, the jersey actually was a referee's jersey, and it was worn by Viola Palmer.
41:40 Oh, wow.
41:42 So, you know, I guess she has a story.
41:46 I mean, very much like Larry Bird and Dr. J.
41:50 The famous pose where they're around each other's throats and all that stuff.
41:54 Oh, yeah.
41:55 They're going to sign that.
41:56 Larry will not sign that picture, and Dr. J won't sign that picture.
41:59 So it's just kind of crazy.
42:04 That's right, guys.
42:05 For people who don't know, something that happened a while back.
42:09 But, yeah, she was the only female referee at the time, right?
42:12 Now there's a few.
42:13 She was not the only one.
42:14 She had refereed.
42:17 No, but I thought she was the only female.
42:18 Oh, there's other ones?
42:19 No, I think there was a couple other female referees.
42:23 But she was doing that game in Houston, and they made a couple of bad calls.
42:29 And I just praised her.
42:31 I said, "Man, great call."
42:32 She did great calls.
42:34 And then the next call she made was a mistake.
42:37 And I just mocked Tommy Heinz and I said, "Ah!"
42:40 And I did it in his voice.
42:42 In their voice.
42:44 [Laughter]
42:48 The next day, I get Jeff Flint, who I love to death, who was a VR person for the Summit, said, "We just wrote an apology for you."
43:01 [Laughter]
43:03 I said, "Just what?
43:04 I said, "Apology for what?"
43:07 You had no idea.
43:08 That was the last time you thought about what you said.
43:10 You didn't even think you said anything.
43:12 No idea.
43:13 We wrote an apology for you.
43:15 I said, "For what?"
43:16 He said, "For what you said about Viola Palmer."
43:19 I said, "Let me sit back."
43:21 I said, "What did I say about Viola Palmer?"
43:25 And he said, "You said the thing about bacon and eggs."
43:29 [Laughter]
43:32 I said, "Bacon and eggs."
43:35 I said, "Oh, my God."
43:37 And so I had to come back and give a public apology.
43:40 Max was like, "Tommy said that."
43:42 [Laughter]
43:44 I had to give a public apology.
43:48 And one of our fans was at the game.
43:50 She's like, "I heard what you said about the thing."
43:53 [Laughter]
43:55 That was nice.
43:57 Oh, man.
43:58 That's what I'm saying.
44:00 Those things come back to haunt you.
44:02 But Paul Pierce, it seemed like he just breezes right through this thing.
44:06 He'll be all right.
44:07 You'll see him at game one, game two, game four.
44:11 Whatever games we have in the garden, Paul Pierce will be there,
44:14 sitting right by the side of the ownership group.
44:18 I wonder if they addressed it in the next episode, but they probably didn't.
44:21 I know he addressed it with KG on their next episode.
44:24 He said, "I didn't say that word."
44:25 That's what he said.
44:26 He said something else.
44:28 [Laughter]
44:30 But he was joking, of course.
44:31 Paul, you just accept it and you move on.
44:35 If I was him, I would have made fun and said,
44:38 "Damn, dude, I thought I was with you."
44:41 That's what I did.
44:43 That's how you and I talk.
44:45 I just had a lapse.
44:47 My mind did not go to where it should have gone.
44:50 Yeah.
44:52 He looks comfortable up there, though.
44:54 He's different compared to ESPN, so I just think that's what it is, man.
44:57 He's been doing Showtime so long that he forgot where he was at.
45:01 But anyways, that's going to do it.
