00:00:00Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:00:07Hard hats?
00:00:08Lunch pails?
00:00:09Steel tool boots?
00:00:10Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:11Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:13You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:16Somebody said we need to apologize for Jalen.
00:00:18Can I pull the John?
00:00:19What are we apologizing for?
00:00:20What did we say?
00:00:21What did we do?
00:00:22What's going on, everybody?
00:00:32John Zanis, Noah Dalzell, and welcoming Jack Simone to the Garden Report postgame show.
00:00:37Nice enough to join us tonight as Bobby, Jimmy, Sherrod are all doing Black Friday things,
00:00:45whatever those things are.
00:00:46But they're not here to cover what was a wildly entertaining but ultimately meaningless
00:00:54game it turns out, or it appears, between the Celtics and the Bulls.
00:00:58Celtics win 138 to 129 to defeat the Bulls and go to 3-1 in group play and then have
00:01:09to wait for stuff to happen that probably isn't going to happen.
00:01:12We don't want to get too deep into it, but it sounds like it's virtually impossible
00:01:16for the Celtics to get in as a wild card due to point differential.
00:01:19I think they trail not only Orlando, but also Detroit in point differential at the moment,
00:01:25which is crazy.
00:01:26And for those people who don't fully understand how the cup works, I'm one of them, but I'm
00:01:30going to fumble my way through it.
00:01:34Three teams are going to advance and one wild card.
00:01:37It's the best of the rest and the Celtics right now, chances are, are not going to be
00:01:41the best of the rest and get that wild card slot unless some really weird shit happens.
00:01:46So it was fun.
00:01:48Second year in a row, Bobby's not going to Vegas.
00:01:50I'm sorry, Bobby, wherever you are, we're not sending you to Vegas to not watch the
00:01:55Celtics compete in the NBA Cup Finals.
00:01:58But let's just get into this game tonight.
00:02:01I guess, can you blame them for it being one of those, we'll show up in the fourth quarter
00:02:07sort of games when it really probably wasn't going to result in anything?
00:02:13They must have kind of known the scenarios heading into tonight.
00:02:16Would you imagine?
00:02:17Yeah, I mean, I think the same thing was last year where they needed to win by an obscene
00:02:22amount.
00:02:23That Bulls team was a lot worse.
00:02:24They were in a horrific stretch last year.
00:02:26So I remember before the game, we were all like, if there's a team that might actually
00:02:29lose by 25 preemptively, like this Chicago team is it, this team's been okay.
00:02:34But once they lost that early first quarter double-digit lead, it was looking like, okay,
00:02:39that's out of reach now.
00:02:40So it's really just about pulling off the win, minus the last possession of the, just
00:02:45the ridiculous, like with one second left, Sam Hauser three-pointer, which I'm still
00:02:48not quite sure.
00:02:49I got to hear from Billy Don.
00:02:52I really wish, I wish the Celtics broadcast had the wherewithal to just have a Billy Don
00:02:57of an ISO cam from the moment Joe Mizzoula called that timeout all the way to that Hauser
00:03:04bucket.
00:03:05I did see a lot.
00:03:06I did see on the replay Lonzo like this.
00:03:08You see Sam Hauser's face.
00:03:11No, but I'm saying like, are you effing kidding me?
00:03:14Like this, because we've talked about the point differential thing, Noah, and like how
00:03:18it's just kind of icky, you know?
00:03:22But Joe, I swear, is straight trolling Donovan by calling that timeout and he did it again.
00:03:28And I'm sure he's going to be completely unapologetic about it, which is great.
00:03:32I'm just really curious what Donovan's reaction is there, because that was hilarious.
00:03:36I'm very excited for those quotes because I can already imagine what I can do an impression,
00:03:41right?
00:03:42He's going to be like, no, it's point differential.
00:03:44I want to do in the cup.
00:03:45I'm ready for the cup.
00:03:46I was like, we're still in it.
00:03:47We're not going to be out of it until we're out of it.
00:03:51What a crazy final play.
00:03:52It did feel like they got blitzed a little bit by the Bulls.
00:03:56And so then they just reverted to, all right, let's just win, like whatever.
00:03:59We'll try to get the cup.
00:04:00I don't know how that sounds to it, but we just need to focus on getting the win.
00:04:04And that was pretty early in the game, too.
00:04:05So I have some scenarios for you.
00:04:08OK, do you want them hot off the presses?
00:04:13Yes, please.
00:04:14I might even share screen just to make it a little bit, a little bit spicier for everybody
00:04:18for effect here, courtesy of our guy, Sean Grandy.
00:04:22And hold on.
00:04:23Let me.
00:04:24He's been all over it with the scenario.
00:04:25I was waiting for Grandy to put it out there.
00:04:27So let me see.
00:04:28Let me let me see.
00:04:30You're cheating.
00:04:31I can't do my own research.
00:04:33And that's fine.
00:04:34I don't feel bad about it.
00:04:35But put it out here, right here.
00:04:37And that's what we're looking at, right?
00:04:40Pistons win big.
00:04:41So comes down to Tuesday for the Celtics.
00:04:44Boston needs Orlando to beat New York outright.
00:04:48That would make them the group winners, I believe, Jack.
00:04:50That's what we were missing, right?
00:04:52They go to 4-0 and be group winners there.
00:04:55So their point differential no longer would matter over the Celtics.
00:04:58That's what I knew.
00:04:59They either win big, win, or get smoked.
00:05:02But they also need Milwaukee to beat Detroit by 6 or Detroit to beat Milwaukee by 7, OK?
00:05:09So it's kind of, it's a weird scenario, but it is plausible.
00:05:12So it's not completely off the board there.
00:05:14That's more realistic than I thought, actually, seeing these scenarios.
00:05:17I read that earlier.
00:05:19It was the Orlando.
00:05:20The Orlando point differential was impossible to overcome, but if they won, it wouldn't
00:05:23have mattered.
00:05:24And I thought that's what I was asking beforehand, Jack, because if Orlando wins, they win the
00:05:28group.
00:05:29And that would be that.
00:05:30So then New York falls down, they'd be out, and you're looking at trying to, I mean, can
00:05:37you believe they've got an out point differential Detroit to get into it?
00:05:40But that's what we're looking at.
00:05:42I mean, Atlanta won the group.
00:05:44What world are we living in?
00:05:45What world are we living in here?
00:05:48I remember when the groups were initially announced.
00:05:50I think they were in Vegas.
00:05:51Is that true, Jack?
00:05:52Were we in Vegas when they-
00:05:53I remember we watched the groups and we were like, wow, the Celtics just had-
00:05:56I remember they divided the groups and we were like, oh, the Celtics group is terrible.
00:05:59Like, this should be a cakewalk.
00:06:01This is not-
00:06:02Atlanta Hawks.
00:06:03Yeah.
00:06:04This doesn't make sense, guys.
00:06:05It's still a regular season game.
00:06:06No one's losing it on purpose.
00:06:08This isn't tanking at the end of the regular season to avoid an opponent.
00:06:15It's the freaking NBA Cup.
00:06:16Nobody's dodging anybody here for the NBA Cup.
00:06:19But yeah, so there is a way.
00:06:23There is a path.
00:06:24There's a path.
00:06:25So it goes to Tuesday.
00:06:26We'll see.
00:06:27We'll see what happens there.
00:06:28So as for the game itself, look, end of the day, we're making fun of Missoula for it.
00:06:33That might be the difference.
00:06:34That point differential, that full screen we just put up there would be ten points and
00:06:38nine points or whatever, you know, and it makes it less realistic.
00:06:43So I mean, yeah, it was a good call and you got to do it.
00:06:48And I do have a postgame comment, I think paraphrased by Jared Weiss down there with
00:06:53one thing that Joe Missoula said he likes about the NBA Cup is that it allows him to
00:06:57throw out all the unwritten rules.
00:06:59Basically, I get to be an asshole and it's OK.
00:07:02And that's great.
00:07:03That's great.
00:07:04It is.
00:07:05Joe, just like I feel like the NBA Cup brings out the purest form of Joe Missoula.
00:07:10And I really love it because I think if it was up to him, he would do this every single
00:07:14game.
00:07:15I think he would run however many players he wanted to run.
00:07:18I think he would he would call timeouts in the last few seconds.
00:07:21I think he would if the Celtics had a bad possession on the second to last play the
00:07:24game in a 30 point blowout and he wanted to fix it, he'd call timeout like I think this
00:07:29allows him to have a reason for what he does without just having to be because I wanted
00:07:34to because I feel like he wants to.
00:07:35And I think it's it's a blessing to have a coach like that who likes to to win at the
00:07:41level he does.
00:07:43And the NBA Cup gives people a chance to actually see it in real time.
00:07:48Also, just now that I'm on Jared's Twitter feed, he also said that Derek Joe Missoula
00:07:53asked Derrick White about his foot and White told him he'll be fine.
00:07:55But Missoula said he doesn't know for sure yet, because I know a lot of people were very
00:07:58concerned about Derrick White not finishing the game, which isn't usual.
00:08:02I don't I don't I can't remember the last time Derrick White had something.
00:08:05Yeah, but that's that's I guess Derrick saying he'll be fine is probably a good sign.
00:08:10Well, I'll say this.
00:08:11The worst people in the world at at at assessing the severity of injuries or players immediately
00:08:18after the game, because that's what they say is they're fine.
00:08:21But again, a foot.
00:08:24There's a lot of things in there that you don't want to mess around with and little
00:08:26small bones and stuff that can go bad.
00:08:29So let's get let's get those tests and everyone can breathe a sigh of relief that Derrick
00:08:34White is back.
00:08:35But you hate to see it because being doubtful is being ruled out right away, you know, pretty
00:08:41much.
00:08:42And that's not great.
00:08:43If it was like, let me see if I can walk this off.
00:08:45He's questionable and he's on the bench and he's still.
00:08:48Trying to do something.
00:08:49It was out immediately.
00:08:50So something was off.
00:08:51So let's just hope it's not a big deal.
00:08:53But again, every player is like, I'll be fine.
00:08:55I'll be fine.
00:08:56Porzingis said he'll be fine.
00:08:58You know, when he hurt himself.
00:09:00You know, I'm not worried.
00:09:02And Joe said he'll be fine.
00:09:04Famously, Joe Mazula.
00:09:05I remember the question was any concern about Porzingis's injury in the finals?
00:09:08He said zero concern.
00:09:09And I learned my lesson that day to never care what anybody says right after the fact.
00:09:15Not to be not to be alarmist about it, but it's like to me, it's I'm until those until
00:09:21you get that clean, you know, that that clean report or the MRI or whatever test they do.
00:09:28I'm always going to hold my breath a little bit there because you don't want to you.
00:09:32We must protect Derek White at all costs and another person you have to.
00:09:36That being said, if you were, you know, heaven forbid to be without Derek White for even
00:09:43a small period of time, does it even matter?
00:09:46Does it matter?
00:09:47It might not matter.
00:09:49Might you even improve?
00:09:50No, but you're OK right now.
00:09:53You're OK because of this guy.
00:09:55And this is classic right now.
00:09:56How many games we had like this where Celtics don't really feel like playing or they're
00:10:02just medium into it, giving a B minus C plus effort.
00:10:05And Peyton Pritchard comes in and he's like, all right, guys, I'll do everything.
00:10:09And he did it again.
00:10:11Like he's saved them from so many mediocre performances this year.
00:10:16This was like otherworldly, though.
00:10:20And it wasn't just the shooting.
00:10:21It was rebounding.
00:10:22It was defense.
00:10:23It was a lot of a lot of things that he was freaking everywhere.
00:10:26He was literally he looked like he was playing a different sport than everybody else.
00:10:30And it also just being just ungodly, unconscious, hot from behind the arc.
00:10:35But he was just that he was moving at a different speed from everybody else who was just kind
00:10:39of like just going through the motions a little bit through the game.
00:10:42Yeah, I mean, it's hard to even put it into words because I feel like people I think there's
00:10:48still like maybe some people that feel like this is a little bit of an insanity run or
00:10:51this is a fluke thing.
00:10:53This is just who he is as a player at this point.
00:10:55And he's shown us all year and last year, too, when he got the opportunity.
00:10:59But it's not just a shooting thing.
00:11:01He got four offensive rebounds.
00:11:02He was playing really good defense all game.
00:11:03He played the entire 12 minutes in the fourth quarter.
00:11:06So like he was able to just go throughout the entire period.
00:11:10And he saved them.
00:11:11He completely saved them.
00:11:12This was not.
00:11:13Yeah, this was not going to happen.
00:11:14I mean, he was on fire.
00:11:15And they were up by three.
00:11:16So it's like those points were critical.
00:11:17And that's been the theme all year.
00:11:20I mean, Noah and I just did a podcast because Sam wasn't there.
00:11:23So she kindly filled in and we went through a bunch of teams like could Peyton Pritchard
00:11:27start for this team.
00:11:28There's a lot of teams that Peyton Pritchard could start for around the league and at the
00:11:32very least, he would be a top six man on any team.
00:11:36It just feels like he has been so ready to play this role for so long.
00:11:40And now that he was given even like an ounce of a chance, he's taking the most of every
00:11:44opportunity.
00:11:45Like he said at a practice, I think last week or a couple of weeks ago that they talked
00:11:48about him taking more responsibilities coming into the season.
00:11:51Joe Mazula said his ability to play on and off the ball has unlocked that.
00:11:54And from that perspective, from like of his offense, like he really can do whatever you
00:12:00need.
00:12:01He can run the show.
00:12:02He can.
00:12:03He can play off the ball.
00:12:04He can come off screens.
00:12:05It's not an easy thing to do.
00:12:06And he's great at it.
00:12:07So just seeing him take over these games is becoming less and less surprising by the day
00:12:10and is just another one today.
00:12:12Yeah, that was a conversation we had at the beginning of the year when we're doing preview
00:12:15related stuff.
00:12:16It's like, who is Peyton Pritchard?
00:12:18Like in reality, you know, is it is it a person who, you know, whose reputation has become
00:12:23mythical and exceeds his actual capabilities based on Celtics fandom, which happens with
00:12:29certain people.
00:12:30You know, you have these guys where you just kind of build them up and, you know, they
00:12:33become legend.
00:12:35But the reality is like they're better for you than they would be elsewhere.
00:12:38Or is Pritchard the other the other guy, the guy that, OK, he's a nice little player for
00:12:44you scoring 10, 11 points per game.
00:12:46But if you put him somewhere else, he's starting or coming off the bench as a sixth man and
00:12:50scoring 17, 18 points a game.
00:12:52It's hard.
00:12:53It was hard to kind of figure who he slots in as.
00:12:57But now he's doing it for you, which is insane to have these types of numbers on a team with
00:13:03this with this reservoir of talent to be able to do it.
00:13:09It's almost funny.
00:13:10It's like today was a day this game.
00:13:13The Celtics got in his way.
00:13:15Like when they checked back in, they're running that unit there.
00:13:18And you've got Hauser.
00:13:19You've got Kata.
00:13:20You've got Pritchard.
00:13:21And it's being run by Jalen out there and Al.
00:13:24And you see around the five thirty mark or wherever it was in the fourth quarter.
00:13:29And Pritchard's already got 19 points at this point.
00:13:31And Tatum and Porzingis and Holiday get up.
00:13:34And the next like three, four or five possessions were garbage because Pritchard didn't have
00:13:38the ball in his hands the whole time.
00:13:40You had Porzingis with a prayer three late in the clock when they couldn't get anything
00:13:44going on offense.
00:13:45Tatum got another one where he's stuck behind the arc with five, six seconds left on the
00:13:50shot clock because they hadn't gotten anything going.
00:13:52They kind of went back to ISO.
00:13:54Let me find my matchup off a switch and go to work.
00:13:57And it took Pritchard out of the game.
00:13:58I'm like, you're literally wasting possessions without the ball in his hands.
00:14:02And that's not hyperbole.
00:14:03That's actually how I felt watching.
00:14:05Like it's a travesty right now that the offense isn't running through this guy, which is again
00:14:10a crazy thing to think we would say and mean on this team at this point in the season.
00:14:18John catch this quote from Joe Mazzullo on Pritchard.
00:14:20He's one of the best three level scorers that I've ever seen.
00:14:24Hot off the press.
00:14:25Courtesy of Al.
00:14:26Wow.
00:14:27Everybody's finally coming around.
00:14:28Even Joe wasn't with me last year.
00:14:30I mean, I tweeted, I tweeted the all-star thing last year.
00:14:33No, like you, you saw everyone's rushing to the front of the line here on this.
00:14:39I was trying to bake Joe so far last year I was like, what is Pritchard sealing?
00:14:43And he was like, I don't know.
00:14:44Just shut up.
00:14:46I was waiting for him to be like, he's a legend.
00:14:48But no, this is, this is what I mean, that's what it feels like when you watch him play.
00:14:52It feels like we're just watching the glimpse of something.
00:14:54That's, that's how I feel.
00:14:56That, that, that, and again, talking about the three level thing, while in the midst
00:15:00of all of these heat check threes, the one play that stands out to me is when he takes
00:15:04Vucevich to the hole, you know, and he sits there and he up fakes him and he bodies him
00:15:09and he, he leans it in there.
00:15:11It's insane.
00:15:12And that's the thing is he does do that.
00:15:13You see him body bigger guys in the paint to get that shot off that we remember, I bought,
00:15:19you know, Bobby and I were talking about this and Jack, I want your take here too.
00:15:22But like, I remember, you know, the early on when you had Pritchard and it's like, and
00:15:27then, you know, he obviously had some offensive juice, but he couldn't, there are certain
00:15:31things he couldn't do.
00:15:32And the Celtics were playing like Jeff Teague and we're like, come on, like give Pritchard
00:15:36a chance.
00:15:37But you would see that when he'd get in there among the trees or get anywhere outside of
00:15:41his comfort zone.
00:15:42If he didn't have a wide open three, he really wasn't an effective scorer.
00:15:45In fact, he'd get blocked most of the time or wouldn't be able to get a clean shot off.
00:15:49This is something he's improved on dramatically, uh, over the years.
00:15:53And I mean, he really is to be able to get in there, get in tight and get that shot off
00:15:58is really unbelievable.
00:15:59Uh, you know, at a level that's like better than some of his, you know, you know, some
00:16:03of the, some of his teammates who you count on to do that on a regular basis who are taller
00:16:08and longer.
00:16:09I mean, you know, and Pritchard's doing it with, with a high level of effectiveness.
00:16:14So again, maybe Joe's exaggerating a tad, but like, I don't think it's crazy.
00:16:18Like he is like, he can step into that midi and it's great if he gets it and he gets somebody
00:16:24and he jab steps him, he'll shoot that free throw jumper.
00:16:27So absolutely.
00:16:28He'll do that.
00:16:29Not, not, not a lot of people can do that.
00:16:31I think you've seen him improve a lot.
00:16:33And I mean, you look at the post move on Vucic and I, I wonder how much drew holiday has
00:16:38helped him.
00:16:39Cause that's something he does constantly.
00:16:40I mean, Joe, Joe has talked about it a million times to this year.
00:16:43Um, Pritchard's on ball pressure, uh, defensively.
00:16:46And I bet that's a little bit of drew and Derek white as well.
00:16:49I think having drew holiday and Derek white has done the opposite of what a lot of people
00:16:53felt it would do.
00:16:54I feel like a lot of people assumed, Oh, maybe they trade Pritchard down the line.
00:16:57Oh, he won't be able to blossom.
00:16:58But in reality, Pritchard is kind of like by this time learning from both of those guys.
00:17:04And now, like you said, John, like I never thought Pritchard would score 15 points a
00:17:07night for this version of the Celtics, but he has turned into, I think you said it on
00:17:11the podcast when we were talking the other day, Noah, he started to like one of the most
00:17:14important players on the team.
00:17:16He is one of the Celtics games, including tonight.
00:17:18So just the, the sort of how he's gone from point a to point B has been wild to watch
00:17:25because two years ago he wasn't even playing and now he is averaging 16 a night.
00:17:29Yeah.
00:17:30I mean, and we've said it on this show, Jack too.
00:17:32It's, it's no longer is, you know, at the beginning of last year, the idea behind the
00:17:36Celtics bench was surviving the bench minutes, you know, get those guys in there, surround
00:17:41them by two or three of the six starters.
00:17:45And you can live with a couple of those guys in there, you know, eating up those bench
00:17:48minutes and get away with Hauser and Pritchard and this and that, you know, and that was
00:17:52kind of the vibe.
00:17:53And even still so much of last season, you had these weird bench numbers, right?
00:17:58Where it was like, well, they had the best plus minus in the league, but they had the
00:18:01lowest point output in the league for, for, for a long stretch of time because they were
00:18:06kind of riding the coattails of other players.
00:18:08Now it's completely different.
00:18:10Like you can't wait for Pritchard to get into games.
00:18:14He's been that spark so many times on kind of these flat, we'll show up eventually nights,
00:18:19you know, of which they've had a few and of which I don't blame them because they're that
00:18:24good.
00:18:25They're going to get bored.
00:18:26And he's, and he just comes in there like this out of his mind.
00:18:29You can't wait.
00:18:30You're like, they're counting on that spark of him coming off the bench.
00:18:33Now he's important and like, you're going to have weird conversations too.
00:18:37We said this when Porzingis comes back, Derek White got hurt and you didn't have to make
00:18:41the call tonight, but tonight would have been extremely interesting.
00:18:44What that closing lineup would be if Derek White didn't get hurt.
00:18:47And I can probably tell you that the holiday would have been on the bench and it would
00:18:51have been White and Pritchard and that's going to happen.
00:18:53And you're back to where you were a couple of years ago when it was smart, white and
00:18:58and Brogdon.
00:19:01And but now you have like, everyone is like, you want to play them all here.
00:19:08But you're going to run into these situations with these guys now that they're fully healthy,
00:19:12where it's like, well, yeah, I can't take Pritchard out of this game.
00:19:16What I love about this, this group though, and particularly Drew Holland and Derek White
00:19:20is that there's no issue with closing with Pradeen Pritchard if that's what the game
00:19:23calls for.
00:19:24And we've already seen it a number of times this year.
00:19:26Or Tata for that matter, which they've done.
00:19:28And so I don't know that I see a world where Tatum or Brown are ever sitting on the bench
00:19:32at the end of games.
00:19:33Like, I'm not sure that that would be pretty surprising to see.
00:19:35But other than that, any combination, I mean, there were games last year where Porzingis
00:19:38didn't close.
00:19:39And so if a game like tonight, he would have played the rest of that game, regardless of
00:19:44who else is out there, because he was just commanding that.
00:19:46And again, it wasn't just the scoring, it was really everything.
00:19:49And it's just it's a luxury, because I feel like the same way that we have these conversations
00:19:53with Porzingis, if he's out, you know, what are your backup bigs look like?
00:19:56The backboard has not been very injury prone, but even just having this conversation by
00:19:59Derek White, like, they have they have a guy who is ready to assume much larger responsibilities
00:20:03and already has this year.
00:20:05And I was worried with Porzingis coming back, because he's still going to get the touches.
00:20:08Because then, you know, even though they're not in the same position, like, there's only
00:20:11so many shots to go around, but I don't think that's going to change because he's just starting
00:20:15to establish himself as one of the best options in a lot of these plays, especially like when
00:20:18a play is broken.
00:20:19I'd rather him have the ball when a play is broken at the end of a shot clock than anybody
00:20:23at this point.
00:20:25That's not an exaggeration.
00:20:27He'll make something out of nothing better.
00:20:28No, I swear.
00:20:29Because, I mean, we've seen it before, like, you know, you've seen it with the other guys.
00:20:34You know, Brown being athletic enough is going to take an exceptionally difficult shot and
00:20:39sometimes make them.
00:20:40But he's he can do that because of his physicality.
00:20:43Tatum, we've seen him, you know, kind of what happens late in those clock scenarios.
00:20:47A lot of those things end up being fairly low percentage.
00:20:49You actually feel pretty good that Pritchett is going to be able to dart around somewhere
00:20:53where he's going to be able to create enough separation to get a decent look in those moments.
00:20:58And again, as Missoula said, you know, from multiple levels, when it ends up in one of
00:21:01those other guys' hands, you're looking at, you know, contested step back with time running
00:21:06out.
00:21:07And that's the best thing that you're going to get in those situations.
00:21:08So yeah, Pritchett is a magician and you really do.
00:21:11I really was getting annoyed, like, get the ball in his hands like it was when those guys
00:21:16came back in.
00:21:17It was frustrating seeing it not happen.
00:21:19It's again, it's it's crazy.
00:21:21It's almost beyond hyperbole, like at this point, what you're going to say about his
00:21:25impact on not just this game, but like so many games this year.
00:21:32It feels like at this point.
00:21:35Out of anybody on the Celtics, I have the most confidence that when a Pritchett shot
00:21:40goes up, it will go in like like obviously he is not as good of an offensive player as
00:21:45as a Tatum or Derek White, just because of like what they can do, the the space they
00:21:49create, they're facilitating the size, whatever.
00:21:52But like when I know what I said, you say that now it's still you're saying it because
00:22:00it's a safe thing to say now.
00:22:02But it's OK to say this and mean it like I kind of want the ball in his hands.
00:22:07I truly think that I like out of anybody in the Celtics, if you say you need a shot at
00:22:13the buzzer, I feel the most confident in Peyton Pritchett making that shot right now over
00:22:16anybody else on this team.
00:22:17And that's a crazy thing to say, considering the talent.
00:22:19But like it is just something about the way he is able to create shots out of nothing,
00:22:25make shots from literally anywhere on the floor, no matter who is guarding him.
00:22:29And the track record we've seen from Tatum in some of those moments, Jalen, some of those
00:22:33moments and other guys just throughout the courses of games like Pritchett is making
00:22:37shots in unreal level right now.
00:22:39And I think that's just the reality we live in.
00:22:43It's not a bad reality.
00:22:44It's I mean, and it's again, it's, you know, an embarrassment of riches in this team when
00:22:49you've added now.
00:22:50And again, we talk about this on the show all the time, but it's really found money.
00:22:53It's not like you knew you didn't know Peyton Pritchett could play, but you didn't know
00:22:56he's this guy this year.
00:22:58And you didn't know that Nemus Keita is somebody who actually can give you valuable contributions
00:23:02and valuable minutes.
00:23:03That's also found money on this team right now.
00:23:06So again, how do teams like the Celtics who won a championship get better internal improvements,
00:23:12you know?
00:23:13And that's what's happening right now where you're getting, dare we say, I mean, all-star
00:23:18level contribution or sixth man of the year level contribution for somebody you didn't
00:23:22necessarily expect that from at this point in time, which is crazy to get it.
00:23:27So Pritchett is an obvious story.
00:23:29It is crazy to think like, you know, this is the first night and again, we can't have
00:23:36nice things.
00:23:37This is the first night they had a fully healthy squad all year.
00:23:40And then Derek White goes out with the game.
00:23:41How did this game was at all remotely close when they had all of their horses and you
00:23:45had such a good Peyton Pritchard game and such a terrific Jason Tatum game, yet here
00:23:50they were kind of battling.
00:23:52I do want to give the Bulls a lot of credit tonight.
00:23:55I think tendency is to be like, well, the Celtics played like ass.
00:23:59Like, look, I don't think defensively they put a lot of pressure on them.
00:24:03They kind of gave them their space.
00:24:05They gave them room to operate.
00:24:06They created some open passing lanes to be able to get them to do stuff.
00:24:11I think they played a passive style of defense that allowed Chicago to move the ball around,
00:24:15get decent looks, and then they freaking hit them.
00:24:18It was kind of, it was, it's kind of a strange thing to watch somebody do to you what you
00:24:22do to them, which was create a lot of open threes and knock them down.
00:24:26And that's what they were doing.
00:24:27And so I kind of liked that.
00:24:29I thought it was a fun back and forth sort of dogfight.
00:24:31So I'll ask you guys just on the game itself, how much of it was Celtics maybe not bringing
00:24:37their A game to the court and how much of it was this Chicago played a dynamite game?
00:24:44I think it was more Chicago, honestly.
00:24:46And something I'm trying to do is I'm trying to have a better view of like what the other
00:24:51team is actually doing and not just what the Celtics are doing.
00:24:54And then the other team is just the side character.
00:24:57And I really feel like Chicago had so many individual performances that were impressive,
00:25:01but also just the way they responded as a team.
00:25:03Celtics went up by 10 early on, they could have folded and they really never did.
00:25:07And just individually, like Gale Horton and Tucker were six for six at one point.
00:25:10So I mean, that was just ridiculous.
00:25:11A lot of ridiculous individual performances.
00:25:15And even the fact that they were able to withstand the Peyton Pritchard fourth quarter, I mean,
00:25:18they were down by three or four at one point after the 19 points.
00:25:23So you got to give them credit for being able to hang in there.
00:25:25I think the Celtics squandered some opportunities to create separation.
00:25:28I mean, there was like three consecutive turnovers in the fourth quarter that were all bad decisions
00:25:31on the Celtics end.
00:25:33But also it was like Chicago found some defense down the stretch that they really didn't have
00:25:37much during the game.
00:25:38So I walk away a little bit more impressed with Chicago than disappointed with the Celtics
00:25:43effort.
00:25:44Also, I think the Celtics are 16 and three, and it's going to be hard for us to criticize
00:25:50like their effort until we see like some stretch of losing.
00:25:53And I talked about this in Atlanta.
00:25:54It's funny, we had that Atlanta loss that we were all kind of like, this is going to
00:25:57be this is a sign of something more or not.
00:25:59And then they've won what seven in a row since then.
00:26:02So it's hard to point to the Celtics having bad habits when they're not really facing
00:26:06the consequences.
00:26:07So I think I'm walking away just impressed with Chicago's effort mostly.
00:26:10Yeah, I think that's largely where I lean as well.
00:26:13I think the biggest thing that gets lost in translation sometimes like these guys are
00:26:16trying like I don't necessarily think it's always an effort thing.
00:26:19I think it's more that the Bulls played so well that the Celtics were a bit shell shocked
00:26:24with what they were seeing.
00:26:25Like it was literally they were getting beaten at their own game and the Celtics weren't
00:26:29used to seeing that version of the Bulls.
00:26:31And obviously they go look at the numbers.
00:26:32I mean, the Bulls are second and three point makes per game this season.
00:26:35I think they're third in attempts.
00:26:36And so you see that, but it doesn't really show up until it's in front of your face.
00:26:40And they're fast.
00:26:41And the Celtics were not defending well on the back foot.
00:26:44They were not rotating well.
00:26:45And the Bulls are creating open threes.
00:26:46The drive and kick was just automatic for them.
00:26:48Kristaps Porzingis wasn't stepping up to Vucevic enough.
00:26:51Like there were little things that you can look at, but I don't think it was much effort
00:26:54as it was execution.
00:26:55And I think a lot of that just stemmed from the Bulls played really good and the Celtics
00:26:58were not prepared for that.
00:27:00Once the third and fourth quarter came around, they had some good individual performances
00:27:04of their own in Tandem and Pritchard that sort of got them over the hump.
00:27:07But I think the Bulls just played a lot better than the Celtics expected and it took them
00:27:10a while to adjust.
00:27:11Yeah.
00:27:12Yeah.
00:27:13And again, they kind of, it's like you hit them with your best punch and they didn't
00:27:18go down, you know, and that's what happened early because the Celtics were smoking.
00:27:21They built that double digit lead and you're like, here we go.
00:27:24And it ended up not happening.
00:27:25So yeah, it definitely, I don't think they were totally ready for it, but they were,
00:27:31they were, they were, it was impressive.
00:27:33It was fun.
00:27:34It was an entertaining game.
00:27:35If you can put aside the whole like Celtics should destroy everyone, you know, smash,
00:27:40you know, if you only watch the games through that lens it's going to, it's every game is
00:27:45boring as hell, you know, and I don't think this was necessarily one of them, though there
00:27:48were some questionable.
00:27:49I, like I said, Vucevic, I think ate up Porzingis a couple of times where he kind of played
00:27:54off him a little bit, gave him too much room.
00:27:56I think you want to get critical.
00:27:57I thought Brown's shot selection was, was, was, was pretty bad all game long in terms
00:28:03of the degree of difficulty.
00:28:04And sometimes those just fall and that's just the Jalen Brown experience.
00:28:08You know, just tonight, really none of that difficult fall away, you know you know, MIDI
00:28:14game worked for him.
00:28:15I think I forgot what the final number was, but he was, you know, you know, hit four threes,
00:28:21had that one ridiculous dunk and was two of 10 on every other shot, you know, at a
00:28:25point.
00:28:26So it was just, those were tough.
00:28:28But other than that, like I said, is, you know, a really good Tatum game, good, you
00:28:32know, good efforts, good, good KP game.
00:28:35We'll talk about him as well, what we thought in his second game back and what he looks
00:28:39like to you guys through, through a couple of games.
00:28:41Now it's almost like he was never gone.

00:31:34Back to the game.
00:31:37Let's size up Porzingis after a couple of, nope, that's the wrong one.
00:31:40After a couple of games.
00:31:41What'd you think of him tonight versus last night where, I mean, versus his first game
00:31:46where you saw Porzingis things, his presence immediately, I think was, you know, you could
00:31:52notice it particularly on the defensive end and how much, you know, he acts as a deterrent
00:31:58back there and, you know, has helped things and what he does for the spacing and the offense
00:32:02and all of that stuff.
00:32:04But you can see he's a little bit winded.
00:32:06You know, at a couple of times in the game, what did you think of him game two versus
00:32:09game one?
00:32:10I thought he was, sorry, sorry, I was waiting my turn.
00:32:17I thought his offense, look at this stat line.
00:32:21It was, it was crazy.
00:32:22I think the biggest thing you notice in this game is what you saw a lot last season of
00:32:28the Celtics offense is, you know, having a few bad possessions or stalling.
00:32:33It gives them an immediate switch up.
00:32:34Like they'll, he'll set a screen, he'll get a guard in the post, he'll go to work and
00:32:37he'll either draw a foul or get an easy layup.
00:32:40And he did that over and over and over in this game.
00:32:42Obviously the threes went down a couple of times tonight, which was good too.
00:32:45But I think just having that as an offensive curve ball to throw in there as they're jacking
00:32:50up threes is something they missed a lot of this season.
00:32:53I thought he was a little off defensively in this game.
00:32:55I think they switched it up to put him on a different matchup so that he could play
00:32:57help a little bit better, but he wasn't really moving as well as you wanted him to.
00:33:01He wasn't getting out, obviously, like we mentioned to Vucic as much.
00:33:04So I don't think this was an amazing defensive game, but I think the offense is exactly what
00:33:07you want to see from him.
00:33:08Yeah, I agree.
00:33:09And it was one of those words like he was hitting these crazy shots, but that's also
00:33:14been what he's been shooting this year, but it's not what he's been shooting for his career.
00:33:18So I don't know what the game plan called for, you know, sometimes I know historically
00:33:22Joe just will live with certain guys hitting shots and will not change that defensive scheme
00:33:26regardless of whether those shots are going in.
00:33:29And at one point I was like, maybe that's what this is.
00:33:30But then at one point I was like, okay, he's shooting 45% and he's letting us up here.
00:33:33So I think that probably he should have been a little bit more aggressive there.
00:33:37But offensively, I just like the shot.
00:33:39Like this is not from like a basketball analysis standpoint, just from an aesthetics watching
00:33:42the game.
00:33:43It's just fun to watch him play.
00:33:44And it's just fun to have a guy that plays completely different than everybody else.
00:33:48And you dump it down low to him and he has all these nice moves and the swing through
00:33:51a lot of the same quintessential moves that I think were really impressed the fan base
00:33:55when he got treated to Boston last year.
00:33:57We saw more of those tonight, whereas I felt like the other night, we didn't really see
00:34:00that as much.
00:34:02I know a lot.
00:34:03There was a lot of buzz about him maybe being hobbled at one point.
00:34:07I think people are going to watch him very carefully and very closely throughout the
00:34:10rest of the season.
00:34:11Was that when he was going across the lane to his right?
00:34:13Yes.
00:34:14And he got fouled.
00:34:15No, no, not that one.
00:34:16Oh, because that one.
00:34:17That one too.
00:34:18That one too.
00:34:19And then he hopped up in frustration.
00:34:20I was sitting with my dad.
00:34:21My dad was like, he's hurt.
00:34:22I was like, no, he's just frustrated.
00:34:23But I guess that one.
00:34:24Yeah.
00:34:25Okay.
00:34:26Yeah.
00:34:27The previous half, he had a wide open dunk.
00:34:28Like he just drove in right.
00:34:29How do I open up?
00:34:30And then when he was running up, he seemed a little hobbled and then he didn't come back
00:34:31in for a while and was not on the bench for a second.
00:34:32So people, all the, all the detectives at home were very concerned.
00:34:33But it sounds like he, it sounds like he's fine.
00:34:34But I do think there's going to be an element of just people watching him very cautiously.
00:34:35I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
00:34:36I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
00:34:49I mean, he's probably going to deal with little things here and there, hopefully nothing major.
00:34:53But it is, I did kind of forget about how difficult it is to watch him at points just
00:34:57because of how like flimsy he looks and how it constantly feels, it constantly feels like
00:35:01he's on the verge of something.
00:35:02It really does.
00:35:03He looks like he's going to get hurt on every play.
00:35:06He really does.
00:35:07He does.
00:35:08He does.
00:35:09I'm all, but that's all tall people like that.
00:35:11It's like, there's just an, it's just an injury waiting to happen.
00:35:15Because there's just so many, like so much of him, you know, and like, yeah, you're right.
00:35:20I gasp almost all the time when he's doing stuff.
00:35:23I felt that way about Rob also.
00:35:25I was like, that's going to be it.
00:35:27That's the one.
00:35:28And that was also valid.
00:35:29Yeah.
00:35:30And it was.
00:35:31So it is difficult.
00:35:33Circling back real quick, as we said, there's still a scenario where the Celtics do get
00:35:40into this group thing.
00:35:42But it is interesting where that Atlanta loss kind of threw it away though, like, well,
00:35:48you know, that's all Atlanta is going to get.
00:35:49And Atlanta ends up winning this group, which is crazy with the Celtics and Cleveland, the
00:35:54two best teams record wise in the NBA and for Atlanta to emerge.
00:35:58Trey Young, who did not play in that game.
00:36:04Atlanta should be thanking you, Trey, because if you did play in that first game, it's probably
00:36:08likely that the Celtics win.
00:36:12That's what happened.
00:36:14But he didn't.
00:36:15And the Celtics lost that game, which was crazy.
00:36:18And as we pointed out, they needed to kind of juice that point differential a little
00:36:22bit near the end when they took control there.
00:36:25Joe Mazzullo calls a timeout.
00:36:26It's the second time that's happened with Chicago, where they've tried to run it up
00:36:29a little to increase their chances or odds of advancing.
00:36:33We paraphrased this quote earlier, but here is Joe Mazzullo talking about that after the
00:36:37game.
00:36:38For this situation, you seem to like.
00:36:39Yeah.
00:36:40I like it.
00:36:41One, it's the point differential, so you want to exhaust as much as you can, but I like
00:36:47it because this tournament and the point differential kind of eliminates all the unwritten rules
00:36:52that you're supposed to follow or not follow, where in a normal situation, you wouldn't
00:36:56do that.
00:36:57But in this one, you get to look at a need, and you get to draw up a play to try and get
00:37:01better in that situation.
00:37:02So guys did a good job of executing, and we tried to extend the point differential as
00:37:06much as we could.
00:37:09There it is.
00:37:10We tried.
00:37:11We tried.
00:37:12We tried.
00:37:13We tried to score meaningless points because that's what they're telling us to do.
00:37:17Still nothing from Donovan.
00:37:18I bet you he doesn't react.
00:37:19Well, I think part of it was last year.
00:37:22I don't.
00:37:23Donovan didn't really realize what was happening because there were still like five minutes
00:37:26left in the game when the Celtics were fouling.
00:37:28I don't think there was any question here about what this was.
00:37:31The question, you know, everybody knows the point differential thing now.
00:37:33Everybody gets it.
00:37:34Donovan even said last year at one point, I didn't, you know, once Joe explained it
00:37:37to me that what they were doing, like, I didn't have any hard feelings, I think.
00:37:40So I don't think he's gonna, I don't think he's upset.
00:37:42It's more just, it's just so unusual to watch an NBA game and to see, and DC was the other
00:37:47weird one where Washington started fouling the Celtics, and to this day, I don't think
00:37:51anybody understands outside of maybe the Wizards why they were fouling.
00:37:54So it just creates scenarios that people aren't used to.
00:37:58But I don't, I don't mind it.
00:37:59I don't, I don't like watching the last 30 seconds be dribbled out, especially when there's
00:38:02like a record to be broken, which happens all the time.
00:38:05So I don't, I honestly personally don't mind it.
00:38:07But I'm not surprised that Joe, Joe has leaned in.
00:38:09See, I saw officially, as someone who's trying to fill out the scores in my article, I was
00:38:15desperately waiting for them just to finish the game because I'm sitting there like, all
00:38:18right, do I have to add three and then Sam has or hit that shot, I had to go through
00:38:21like seven different places and fix all of my stats, because they decided to score an
00:38:25extra three points.
00:38:26But I mean, that's the least surprising answer I've ever heard in my life from Joe was like,
00:38:30he just, he likes to score, he likes to win basketball games.
00:38:33If Joe Missoula was in the MLB, he would pimp walk a home run up nine runs in the bottom
00:38:38of the ninth inning.
00:38:39Like, like, they don't care.
00:38:40He just he wants to play the game he's playing.
00:38:43And I think that fans should like that in there.
00:38:47And you do because you know, now it's because responses like that have kind of typified,
00:38:52you know, the entire Joe Missoula experience.
00:38:54And I think people have definitely embraced that here.
00:38:57I don't think he's making a lot of friends, but he's also outside outside of Boston.
00:39:01But I also, he's outright said, I don't want to make any friends outside of Boston.
00:39:07I'm not trying to.
00:39:08It's a weakness.
00:39:09It's a weakness.
00:39:10This is a killer be killed mentality here.
00:39:11And this is kind of what he says is, yeah, like, there's no decorum I have to worry about,
00:39:17you know, like in in his, you know, MMA fight world, you know, there's no ref pulling me
00:39:22off the person when they've had enough.
00:39:24That's what I love about this cup here, I get to just keep pounding away.
00:39:28And that's basically what he's saying here.
00:39:30And he likes it.
00:39:31And you know, it's it's raw and it's refreshing and it's a little bit terrifying also.
00:39:37But again, it's just kind of part of part of what Joe Missoula does lost in this.
00:39:43I do think, you know, it would be silly to not give Tatum his flowers.
00:39:48This was an insanely efficient Jason Tatum game.
00:39:51What's interesting, if you looked at what you might have thought was not a plus plus
00:39:56effort across the board from everybody, you know, for the full 48, I don't think Tatum
00:40:01fell into that category at any point in time.
00:40:03I think he was like, he had game face on the entire time.
00:40:08And he was, you know, you saw it with the both ends of the court, the block, and then
00:40:11they go the other way in the end one.
00:40:13But he was pretty dialed in, you know, from minute one, this is an incredibly efficient
00:40:18Jason Tatum game.
00:40:19Yeah, this was an MVP caliber game on all fronts, the rebounding, the three level scoring.
00:40:25I loved some of the drives to the basket.
00:40:28Sometimes you see him do a couple of those where he's just feels like he's gliding.
00:40:31It's like, I want to see that constantly.
00:40:33But he was just efficient across the board.
00:40:35He never took those like he check shots, which I feel like sometimes when he has a really
00:40:38good game, he takes a few just because he's been making a bunch and then he ends up ends
00:40:43up like his box score numbers don't reflect how good he was.
00:40:45I feel like that happens a lot where he feels like he's dominating, but then he misses a
00:40:49few shots just because he was, he just took some to take some and he never did that tonight.
00:40:53And so yeah, super impressive game on all fronts and I think he's just having a really
00:40:58good season.
00:40:59I hope he's getting I hope people are able to like, acknowledge the fact that despite
00:41:02all the talent on this team, and despite the fact that it's going to be the Pritchard storyline,
00:41:05there's other storylines that maybe are a little bit more fun and new and exciting.
00:41:08Tatum's had a very, very solid two way season this this year so far.
00:41:13I mean, I think however many points the Bulls are up by early in that third quarter when
00:41:17they put in the lineup that was basically Tatum and the rest of the guys, he just took
00:41:22over the entire game.
00:41:23Like he was getting to the room whenever he wanted.
00:41:25Like you just mentioned, he had that nice chase down block that turned into some more
00:41:28points for him.
00:41:29He got mad at a foul call on one end and then immediately just drove down the entire length
00:41:33of the floor and then made a layup.
00:41:35So at least that was channeled into a more positive light in this game to like everything
00:41:40he did turn to gold in this game.
00:41:41It just felt like it got overshadowed by paid pressure at the end.
00:41:44So he's not going to get the credit.
00:41:45It did.
00:41:46And what's also crazy is they were losing, you know, they were losing the non Tatum minutes
00:41:50until that Pritchard stint there in the fourth where it now exactly that his impact and how
00:41:57important he was to keeping them afloat basically in this game ended up being, you know, nullified
00:42:04because Pritchard had, you know, this ungodly fourth quarter performance.
00:42:08But you could see the dip when he wasn't out there.
00:42:11They were really they were not cohesive at all.
00:42:14He was the engine for pretty much all game long again up until Pritchard lost his lost
00:42:21his damn mind, which was which is really something and what we're going to continue talking about
00:42:24it.
00:42:25Other leftover thoughts you guys from this from this game here that you wanted to hit
00:42:30on that we haven't haven't touched upon yet.
00:42:32I was going to say on the Tatum piece, like there was a little bit of a danger zone there
00:42:36for them.
00:42:37Like I think they were down eight with seven minutes to go in the third.
00:42:41And then he scored 13 in that stretch.
00:42:43And again, it's like, you know, we talk about clutch and clutch shots and sometimes clutch
00:42:48shots are in the fourth quarter, but he had some clutch shots in that third quarter to
00:42:52bring them back into it.
00:42:53And then obviously Pritchard dominated the fourth.
00:42:54But, you know, we talked about this a lot last year with Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown
00:42:58and how they would almost take turns dominating quarters like the third quarter was all Jason
00:43:03Tatum today.
00:43:04And it was it was a hugely important stretch, especially when they kind of had that terrible
00:43:07start.
00:43:08And then so yeah, I just it's just fun to watch and it's fun to watch him just make
00:43:12good decisions.
00:43:13And that's really what we're seeing from him night in and night out.
00:43:15And I want to talk more about Pritchard.
00:43:19That's what I'm holding myself back.
00:43:20I don't want to be a meme, but it's like if there's more meat on that Pritchard bone,
00:43:25we can circle back to it.
00:43:26I'm not going to I'm not going to stop you from doing that.
00:43:29I don't even know what to say.
00:43:31We do want to quickly, quickly give a shout out to a couple more sponsors here on the

00:44:03the most fun to follow.
00:44:04And again, there's so many different stats to pick from here.
00:44:07And again, I'm telling you, Peyton Pritchard has just been gold all season long.
00:44:11That's been just easy money.
00:44:13So again, if you want to get in on the action, you absolutely should.

00:45:12Are they back home?
00:45:14Are the Celtics coming home?
00:45:15Sunday, Cleveland, and then we have four home games next week.
00:45:18So what's interesting here is if the Celtics end up in the don't advance, and Cleveland
00:45:25didn't advance one of their extra games might end up being against Cleveland, which isn't
00:45:29outstanding.
00:45:31But that's another possibility here because you're going to have to be paired with a loser
00:45:35who didn't move on.
00:45:36So they might draw another Cleveland matchup out of this one, which isn't awesome.
00:45:42But it's fun to watch because it's a good matchup and it's a good game and you get to
00:45:45check that out.
00:45:46If you want to check them out Sunday, go in here you download the game time app create

00:46:21So once again, download that game time app create an account use the code CLNS for $20
00:46:26off your first purchase terms to apply.
00:46:30Getting back to it and Noah absolutely you can continue talking about Peyton Pritchard
00:46:33if that's what if that's what if that's what you want to do.
00:46:37It's not even that I have more to say I just honestly I hope that he gets the opportunity
00:46:40this year to continue this usage rate to continue having opportunities to close out fourth quarters
00:46:46because it's I do feel like he's a star in the making and I think that you know, he show
00:46:51he has shown flashes of that but there's a lot of stars in the making that never pan
00:46:55out because they don't get the opportunity.
00:46:56That's the whole story of the NBA and you know, right now he's getting an opportunity
00:47:00where there really wasn't a major one.
00:47:01It's not like there was, you know, guys went down and finally Pritchard got his chance
00:47:05like he really crawled in people forget, you know, Marcus Martin Malcolm Brogdon were
00:47:09taking all those guard minutes two years back and Pritchard was getting DNPs night in and
00:47:12night out and I don't think that I don't know that he would have known that either is going
00:47:17to be games now or drew holidays potentially sitting on the bench or he's taking big shots
00:47:20with Tatum and Brown on the floor.
00:47:21So it's just you know, I hope that the opportunity continues because it's just makes them so
00:47:26hard to guard there were moments today where it's like they couldn't leave Pritchard any
00:47:29space they have to they were sending to like in his direction and then you have Tatum and
00:47:33the finals MVP from last year.
00:47:35So it's like just another weapon out there.
00:47:37It makes it so hard to think about where you even begin to address this team and Doc Rivers
00:47:42has talked about it.
00:47:42I was the first thing on the scouting report.
00:47:44Don't let Pritchard go off and then he still does.
00:47:46So it's just yeah, just thinking about this team.
00:47:48Like it takes things to continue championship cores.
00:47:50We've seen it with the Spurs, with the Warriors.
00:47:53I don't want to get crazy here, but I think Pritchard might be one of those pieces that
00:47:56extends and I'm not bringing any other players up, but that's no, are you upping your
00:48:01prediction? Your prediction was future all star at some point.
00:48:05Are you going to you want to like double down on it?
00:48:09You want to add to it?
00:48:10No, it's going to be an all star.
00:48:11You want to say something bolder?
00:48:13It's really hard to be an all star.
00:48:14Honestly, that's the one thing like I want to get crazy here.
00:48:16But if you really look at it, like they are quite an all star and might not be one.
00:48:20So being an all star means, you know, in this NBA with all the talent and yeah, he'll be
00:48:27an all star. I'm going to leave it at that for now.
00:48:29For who?
00:48:32For the Celtics.
00:48:33OK, she didn't want to say that she didn't she didn't want to make that prediction.
00:48:38No, no, I did.
00:48:39I wouldn't say it if I didn't want to.
00:48:40John knows. I'll sit here in silence if I can't answer the question.
00:48:46I've taken it easy on you, by the way, with these merchant of chaos sort of questions
00:48:51that I that I tend to ask people.
00:48:53But yeah, so you think all star, all star for the Celtics at one point or another?
00:48:58Yes. Still there.
00:48:59Jack, do you believe that?
00:49:01I think it is very hard to be an all star, like Noah said, and I don't think.
00:49:09I think he could have the production to do it, but I think as long as Tatum and Brown
00:49:13are on the Celtics, he won't be able to, because I don't think I think it'll be rare
00:49:18that they get three all stars.
00:49:19So I don't necessarily like if I if you press me and I had to, like, guess yes or no,
00:49:24I would say no, but not because I don't think he's good enough because I don't think the
00:49:27situation calls for it.
00:49:28Derek White's going to be an all star this season, by the way, so just this is the first
00:49:31one.
00:49:32So, yes, he is.
00:49:34Yeah, take that, Derek, DJ, whatever the that's the thing, Noah, and this is where it does
00:49:42get tricky in order for this to come true.
00:49:44That's going to require Derek White or Drew Holiday not being on this team, most likely
00:49:52because he's not making it from the bench.
00:49:54I don't have to think about how it's going to happen.
00:49:55So who needs to go?
00:49:59So who needs to go in order for you to in order for your dream to come through?
00:50:03Why do I have to call for a trade right now?
00:50:07Because that's the only way it happens.
00:50:09Someone's going to go eventually.
00:50:11I know.
00:50:11I think once Holiday retires, like Holiday could retire and then Richard steps into a
00:50:15starting role.
00:50:16That's and then yeah, lifeline.
00:50:20I don't know.
00:50:20I'm not going to let a pretty Richard fourth quarter have me calling for the trade of
00:50:28draw.
00:50:30Got chat.
00:50:31You know what to do.
00:50:35The chat, the chat will see it.
00:50:37Otherwise, Noah, that's that's.
00:50:39What is the track going to see?
00:50:41The chat's going to say that you want you're trying to ride.
00:50:43You're kind of holiday.
00:50:44I'm seeing a split chat right now.
00:50:45The chat wants me to go further.
00:50:46And also the chat things I've lost my mind.
00:50:48So that that often is the case.
00:50:51That's how you know you're doing it right.
00:50:52I know.
00:50:53That's how I was thinking.
00:50:53I was like, I'll take this.
00:50:55That's how you know you're doing it right now.
00:50:57Yeah, no, I I'd love to.
00:50:59I'd love to say it.
00:51:00It is crazy, though.
00:51:02Just continue to talk about it that like when Doc River says it, you're like, OK, Doc,
00:51:07you're so smart.
00:51:08You told them, watch out for that thing that ended up happening.
00:51:11And that to me is almost kind of like covering his ass more than it is actually giving Pritchard
00:51:16is his flowers.
00:51:17Like, you know, I told these guys to watch out for him and they didn't listen to me.
00:51:21But like you actually I actually I actually do start to believe that coaches are like,
00:51:27so we can't you we can't give this guy an inch like you can't do it.
00:51:33Can't sag off him.
00:51:34Can't do anything like I think it's real now.
00:51:37I think it's not like, oh, you know, we got burned by the one out of 10 Pritchard game.
00:51:43It's not it's a regular occurrence.
00:51:46It is legitimately something you have to, you know, I'll date myself with it.
00:51:50But like, you know, people of my generation, like the first player like this was, you know,
00:51:54that you remember.
00:51:55Actually, there's a couple, but there's Sixers had one with Andrew Toney and the Pistons
00:51:59had Vinnie Johnson, who was known as the microwave.
00:52:01You know, and again, it's before your time, but it's a guy who just come in and heat up
00:52:05instantly.
00:52:06And back then, microwaves were new.
00:52:08So it was kind of a cool nickname.
00:52:11Were they all stars?
00:52:12Did they did they make the All-Star team?
00:52:14But it was like microwave.
00:52:16Microwave was basically sorcery back then, but it really was.
00:52:20But it's like magic.
00:52:22Vinnie Johnson is the name.
00:52:23Yeah, and he was the microwave and he would just come in and just bucket, bucket, bucket,
00:52:28bucket, you know, and like those guys are awesome when you have them.
00:52:32So even if that's all Pritchard ever is, just being an instant bucket coming off the bench
00:52:38is an incredible weapon to have on your team.
00:52:41I'm just reading up on this guy's career.
00:52:43Was he an All-Star Noah?
00:52:46I don't think so, but he had a respectable career.
00:52:49He averaged 16 points a game at one point.
00:52:52Yeah, that's who he was.
00:52:53But his career averages were probably seven or eight, but there was a stretch of time
00:52:59where he would come in there and he would just just assassinate you and be like, oh
00:53:03my God, you know, like that guy beat us.
00:53:06And like, that's what's happening with Pritchard right now.
00:53:08Like you're walking away from this.
00:53:09Like you didn't get beat by Jalen.
00:53:11You didn't get, well, I mean, Tatum had a great game.
00:53:13We got beat by Peyton frigging Pritchard.
00:53:15Like that hurts, you know, for other teams because you're looking at everything you have
00:53:19to account for on the other side.
00:53:20And when you just get smoked by a Peyton Pritchard game, it's easy to say like, oh,
00:53:24this was an outlier, but it's not an outlier.
00:53:27That's what's amazing about it.
00:53:30Yeah, and I think the other reality is that he was a phenomenal player in college.
00:53:33Like he was one of the best players in the country his senior year.
00:53:35And he's so easy.
00:53:36This is not his first time having the ball in his hand and making big plays.
00:53:39It's just, was it going to translate to the NBA?
00:53:41It was a question that all these undersized guys have to face.
00:53:45And I think he's answered it, you know, it took him time to adjust, but that, you know,
00:53:49there's flashes of like, he's done this before.
00:53:51And he always has the great quotes about like, you know, I do this in my off days.
00:53:54I do this in my sleep.
00:53:54I pay my friends to come overseas and compete against me.
00:53:57But he's also done it in high pressure moments, like, you know, in big stages before.
00:54:04It's just, this is the first time that we're getting to see it here.
00:54:07Yeah.
00:54:07Yeah.
00:54:08Someone just put this up here and this is an interest.
00:54:10Everyone's mad at you guys for being young and I don't, I celebrate it.
00:54:14There's obviously some boomers in the chat here.
00:54:16They're not supposed to know who Vinny Johnson is.
00:54:18He played like a hundred years ago, guys, give it a rest.
00:54:24But somebody put on here, one of the great things Brad did is get rid of dead weight.
00:54:29I hate referring to players as dead weight, but it is pretty interesting.
00:54:32If you look up and down this roster, there's really nothing wasted.
00:54:35Like you can make a case for people across the board, you know, and that includes, you know,
00:54:40DNPs tonight who were healthy.
00:54:41That's what, you know, like I said, is Luke is a guy who could absolutely get minutes.
00:54:45Who isn't getting minutes.
00:54:46Tillman is a guy who could get minutes.
00:54:47Who isn't getting minutes.
00:54:48Like you've now legitimately gone.
00:54:51What are you laughing at now?
00:54:52No, Jack has no.
00:54:56First of all, I've been better about not laughing when I see Luke Ornette in the chat.
00:55:01So just want to point that out.
00:55:05I think it's the new profile picture.
00:55:06It gets me a little bit less than the other one, which is like his roster pick.
00:55:09So thank you for changing your profile picture.
00:55:12I was laughing because Jack has a, I don't know if you know,
00:55:15but Jack has a Xavier Tillman thing.
00:55:17Like the same way that everybody has their thing.
00:55:18Jack's really, he's very high on Xavier Tillman.
00:55:22Yeah.
00:55:23So I just saw Jack light up at you mentioning Xavier Tillman.
00:55:27It was just, you know, it just brought me back to last time.
00:55:31That's my guy.
00:55:32Just like Grant was my guy that I had to abandon.
00:55:34Xavier Tillman's my guy.
00:55:37I had to quickly jump shit.
00:55:39No, I'm all in on Xavier Tillman.
00:55:41I desperately, I resent that Luke Ornette in the chat.
00:55:45Come on, he's staying right here in Boston.
00:55:48Multi-year deal.
00:55:49He'll find his way.
00:55:50This is the actual Luke Ornette, which nobody knows,
00:55:53but that's the best part about this.
00:55:56Can you imagine?
00:55:58I, when I was, so I wrote a Cornette story at the start of the season
00:56:01about like him being a comedian and I asked one of his friends,
00:56:04like, does Luke have a burner?
00:56:06And he told me no.
00:56:07So as far as I was told, he doesn't actually have a burner.
00:56:09Rule number one is say you don't have a burner.
00:56:11Yeah, I know, I know, I know.
00:56:16Yeah.
00:56:19But, and I will say also just basketball side,
00:56:22Xavier Tillman is like the friendliest,
00:56:25most charismatic, warm person on the team,
00:56:27as far as like talking to reporters and things.
00:56:29So I do think, I'm not saying that that's the reason Jack likes him.
00:56:33Yeah, there's, there's a lot of things that are intriguing about his game.
00:56:35It's part of the reason, for sure.
00:56:37But I just want to throw that in there that he's, he was during the finals.
00:56:40We were camped out at the Tillman station.
00:56:42Just chatting with Xavier.
00:56:43Oh yeah, I was, I was, I was next to you guys, half of it.
00:56:46Cause I was spilling tea about Porzingis in practice and everything else.
00:56:51The camera guys with the high end equipment were off shooting the premium podium.
00:56:55I was in Tillman land with you guys hanging out.
00:56:58Jack's asking like 40 questions in a row.
00:57:01Jack dominated.
00:57:02Someone had to.
00:57:04Jack dominated Tillman media availabilities in the finals.
00:57:08It was just, yeah, it was unreal.
00:57:10I know, I know.
00:57:12If I ever want to hear Jack be chatty, I just got to get him in front of Tillman.
00:57:16Someone asking me for this, I'll put it up real quick again.
00:57:1830%, that's, that's, that's what it is.
00:57:21Someone was asking about the merch.
00:57:22You want to get in on that merch?
00:57:2430% off all merch code black Friday, 2024 valid through cyber Sunday.
00:57:28A couple of people in the chat were asking.
00:57:29So I threw it back up there.
00:57:31He is a good dude.
00:57:32Honestly, that stuff helps because, you know, you know, like those guys with like the good
00:57:39dude karma vibes that helps a lot, you know, and you could have this, this happens every
00:57:44trade deadline, right?
00:57:46You want a player, you want to bring them in.
00:57:48You, you probably want a player that's better than the role that you can provide them.
00:57:52And if you do bring in players like that, you're going to have issues because they want
00:57:56to come in and play 25, 30 minutes a night.
00:57:58And you might be like, I got 12 for you.
00:58:00Is that cool?
00:58:01You know, and Celtics don't really have that.
00:58:04Everybody kind of slots into their role right now and is okay with it.
00:58:07And the guys who are going to be occasional DNPCD is like Luke and Tillman are cool about
00:58:13it, which is crazy.
00:58:15They're good dudes.
00:58:16And and they're not going to balk and they're not going to have issue.
00:58:20You've really settled in nicely to kind of what you have here.
00:58:23And really you're looking at, again, we've had this conversation so many times before,
00:58:28but a rotational third center situation where you're going to play based on whatever need
00:58:33you think is there.
00:58:34I think Kada has clicked just ahead of Luke, but that doesn't mean it's a permanent thing
00:58:39or it'll happen every single time.
00:58:41And I think there'll be games that call for X as well.
00:58:44But when you're using them in that capacity on those nights, when you have both your healthy
00:58:49bigs with Horford and Porzingis playing, I think you're in great shape.
00:58:55Yeah, I think it'd be really hard for them to get a big midseason that they feel can
00:59:00learn the defensive system and they can trust that person by the playoffs.
00:59:03Like, I don't think it's going to happen.
00:59:04So even if they got somebody that is maybe a little bit more decorated, has accomplished
00:59:08a little bit more in their career than either of the Celtics backups right now, there's
00:59:12the continuity and just the leg that's going to be a leg up.
00:59:15But I would be very surprised if somebody was able to actually get playoff minutes.
00:59:20Listen, I promise, just like there was in the finals, there's going to be a game this
00:59:23season.
00:59:24I don't know if it'll be the regular season.
00:59:25I don't know if it'll be the playoffs where Xavier Tillman is going to do stuff that is
00:59:29going to make it the Xavier Tillman game.
00:59:31I stand my ground.
00:59:33It's going to happen at some point.
00:59:34I don't know when.
00:59:35I don't know how, but it's going to happen.
00:59:37I need.
00:59:38I just.
00:59:39What's the prediction that he has one good regular season game?
00:59:42There will be a Xavier Tillman game is all I'm going to put my stand my ground.
00:59:46I do have a bet with Jake.
00:59:48He gets the whole game.
00:59:50No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, not that far.
00:59:53I do have a bet with Jake Eisenberger first of the floor, though, that he would shoot
00:59:5638% from three on at least 100 attempts.
00:59:59So I'm not looking too great there just yet.
01:00:04Well, I think the bet will be void because I don't think he's getting up 100.
01:00:08But that has not gone my way.
01:00:11Also, I don't care about shot sample when you're taking like 10 shots all year.
01:00:15I don't think that really tells us much about how his shots coming along.
01:00:18But he is a good three point shooter.
01:00:19I believe that wholeheartedly.
01:00:21He just hasn't done it in his limited minutes.
01:00:24No, I promise.
01:00:25I promise he's a good three point shooter.
01:00:26I watch him every day.
01:00:28I watch everything.
01:00:29Some guy paid $5 just to tell you you're wrong.
01:00:33Bring in the money.
01:00:34Tell me I'm wrong.
01:00:35I'm going to have to do that.
01:00:37He wanted he wanted me.
01:00:38He wanted it to be certain that it would get on there.
01:00:40So he paid for the right to get his comment put up there.
01:00:44James, no, wrong.
01:00:46That could be honestly, he could be on delay.
01:00:48And it could be saying that about anything we said.
01:00:50But I'm guessing it's you, Jack.
01:00:52It's not a big deal.
01:00:53That's all right.
01:00:54Keep the receipts, buddy.
01:00:57Listen, Jack, this is how people looked at me when I was when I was singing
01:01:00the Peyton Pritchard song when he was on his 12th DNP last year.
01:01:04People looked at me sideways, too.
01:01:05So I love I love the Richelman.
01:01:07And I do think that he could be a serviceable backup big.
01:01:09I just I think maybe you see a ceiling that I don't I don't quite see right now.
01:01:13But I'm never one to shoot down a player's capabilities.
01:01:16So I'm happy that we have one.
01:01:17I remember we were in Vegas and I had to defend Peyton Pritchard from you
01:01:22when we were in Vegas.
01:01:23I was hired.
01:01:24Yes, yes, 100 percent.
01:01:27That is what happened.
01:01:28Look at this.
01:01:30Well, this is an auction.
01:01:31Yeah, five dollars and one cent from Jack.
01:01:36You're right.
01:01:37Thank you, Jason.
01:01:38Oh, five dollars.
01:01:39We have five dollars.
01:01:41Five or one, five or one.
01:01:42Go for Jack.
01:01:43Anyone five or two want to tell Jackie's wrong?
01:01:45Bring it.
01:01:46He gets it.
01:01:48I'll stay on long enough to see how far we can go up by a penny.
01:01:52But yes, you're right, Jack.
01:01:54There might be a Xavier Tillman moment and that'll be outstanding if there if there is one.
01:01:59But but yeah, we love it.
01:02:01I do want to point out since Jack mentioned it, Jake Eisenberg, first to the floor.
01:02:07Terrific show coming up with Celtics late night right after this show.
01:02:10You should definitely check that out.
01:02:12Jack Simone also has his own podcast, which you can also find here on the CLNS Media Network.
01:02:17And again, you talk about embarrassment of riches.
01:02:19We have pretty much every Celtics podcast that you would ever want to listen to,
01:02:24including Noah's podcast.
01:02:26You got Boston, which is basically a daily Q&A where you get to just tell Noah that she's
01:02:31right about everything.
01:02:33And she says, cool, I told you so.
01:02:35And it just kind of goes like that.
01:02:37But it is a little bit of a chamber over there.
01:02:43Terrific podcast from Jack, from Noah and from Jake, along with Ben Vallis and Spoonie,
01:02:50who really know their stuff and are really good.
01:02:53And it's a very fun show.
01:02:54And that comes up after this game.
01:02:57I agree.
01:02:58Excellent pod.
01:02:59I know a lot of you guys go check it out.
01:03:00You should check all of them out.
01:03:01If you haven't checked out Jack's, you haven't checked out Noah's.
01:03:05You definitely should go looking for them because it's a lot of good stuff and a lot
01:03:08of good, fun, entertaining basketball talk.
01:03:11I think we are done.
01:03:11We are back on Sunday as the Celtics take on the Cavs with a shot to overtake them for
01:03:17first place in the East, which is kind of cool.
01:03:23Right now, Cleveland kind of reeling a little bit, having lost a couple to Atlanta and one
01:03:27to Boston recently.
01:03:28I think the guys made me this graphic, so we'll put it up here.
01:03:32It's very colorful, but the Boston Celtics NBA Cup hopes Orlando.
01:03:36This is what they need.
01:03:37Beat the Knicks bucks to beat Detroit by six or Detroit to beat Milwaukee by seven.
01:03:43Thanks for Sean Grandy for being all over that.
01:03:46So that's what we're looking at here.
01:03:48We're not going to know until Tuesday, if that happens for.
01:03:51So for those of you out there who really, really, really, really want the Celtics to
01:03:56advance, you're going to have to sweat it out for a couple of more days.
01:03:59But again, we've got a lot more basketball before then with the game on Sunday.
01:04:03Check out the Patriots as well with the Colts game.
01:04:07We'll have a post game there as well.
01:04:09Guys, I'm sorry I didn't do the food talk.
01:04:11I was rushed.
01:04:13I was rushed.
01:04:14I didn't take pictures of my pies.
01:04:16I am going to admit it wasn't my best year.
01:04:19It wasn't.
01:04:20It was they were pretty good.
01:04:24One of them looked gorgeous, but it didn't come out great.
01:04:27I'm really embarrassed.
01:04:28I had a bad pie Thanksgiving, and I'm still beat up about it.
01:04:32I made a great stuffing and a really good lobster mac and cheese, but my pies were not.
01:04:38I don't even know how to tell people this.
01:04:40They just weren't up to par.
01:04:41It wasn't a great pie.
01:04:44It wasn't a great pie Thanksgiving.
01:04:45Noah, however, put together this delicious spread here, and this is Noah's vegan Thanksgiving.
01:04:54If you insult the way the food looks, I didn't make it.
01:04:57So you're not insulting me.
01:04:58I'm not insulting the food.
01:05:00You're insulting my dad.
01:05:01I'm not insulting.
01:05:05Okay, I'm looking at the eyes.
01:05:08I'm looking at the sag paneer there.
01:05:14That's what you got there.
01:05:15The spinach and the cheese, that's a great Indian dish.
01:05:18If you're going to be vegan or you're going to be vegetarian, the way to go is Indian
01:05:23because there's great, great, great options there.
01:05:26So, yeah, Noah, why don't you talk us through some of this?
01:05:30Okay, so we got mac and cheese in the upper left corner.
01:05:35We got green beans, asparagus.
01:05:37With real cheese?
01:05:39Yeah, mac and what?
01:05:40Mac and cheese.
01:05:40Mac and what?
01:05:41Explain.
01:05:41No, no, no, mac and what?
01:05:43You want to know how we make the cheese?
01:05:45It's cashews.
01:05:47Okay.
01:05:48Okay, just hang on here, okay?
01:05:51We got asparagus.
01:05:52We got salad.
01:05:54Rice is for the spinach.
01:05:58Potatoes, eggplant parm, and then that's like an apple salad.
01:06:04There was also cauliflower soup that did not make it into the photo, but okay, thank you,
01:06:09guys.
01:06:09See, I thought when I took this, I was like, okay, I feel like this would be mainstream
01:06:13popular.
01:06:14Personally, I mean, I was raised as a charity, but when I look at everybody else's Thanksgiving
01:06:17plates, it's not like the food is jumping at you looking so delicious.
01:06:21Everybody's Thanksgiving, I thought mine could hang in there, but poorly received on
01:06:25the internet.
01:06:26A lot of messages of people being concerned about my Thanksgiving, so.
01:06:31No one is concerned, I just think.
01:06:32People were concerned, they were.
01:06:35Look, you challenged the Garden Report in your tweet.
01:06:38I did, I did.
01:06:38So that's why we-
01:06:40No, I'm receptive, I'm receptive.
01:06:42I just was surprised, because I think to me, this is good, you know?
01:06:44And we had a couple of non-vegan guests who thoroughly enjoyed the food.
01:06:49Who thoroughly enjoyed their, or at least they said they did.
01:06:54At least they said they did.
01:06:59Okay, I'm seeing a split chat, which I will take.
01:07:01Yeah, again, it works, it works.
01:07:05But that was a very vegan Thanksgiving.
01:07:08And again, people were looking for the food talk.
01:07:10Oftentimes, you get a Wednesday night game, and I get caught running back and forth into
01:07:14Pie Land, so people are getting live looks at it.
01:07:17It was a bit rushed this year, wasn't great.
01:07:19The apple pie was good.
01:07:21The pumpkin pie, slightly burnt crust.
01:07:24Good flavor, though.
01:07:25It just, they weren't picturesque.
01:07:26They weren't-
01:07:27Are you known for your pies, John?
01:07:29No, it just happens because of this.
01:07:31I've become the pie guy, because we always have the Wednesday show.
01:07:34And I'm literally running to the kitchen, and a timer goes off, because I got to pull
01:07:40one out of the oven.
01:07:41So I became pie guy.
01:07:43I'm new to baking, because my eldest daughter likes it, so we bake together.
01:07:46But I cook a lot, but pies are a thing.
01:07:51But I became the pie guy, and that's it.
01:07:53Got it.
01:07:54Yeah, so it's a Garden Report thing.
01:07:54I learn one good piece of lore every episode.
01:07:57Yeah, it's a Garden Report thing.
01:08:00So yeah, but it wasn't my best pie game.
01:08:03I will make it up for Christmas.
01:08:04I'm coming up with some real shit for Christmas, and I promise to share with everybody.
01:08:10But we've prattled on long enough, as we said.
01:08:13It's Friday.
01:08:14It's Thanksgiving weekend.
01:08:16People have stuff to do.
01:08:17There's reunions out there.
01:08:18You might be able to catch your buddies if you run out the door and head to the bars
01:08:23and do that.
01:08:24I know that that's a thing that happens a lot on Fridays and Thanksgiving weekends.
01:08:28If not, enjoy the rest of your weekend.
01:08:30We'll see you back on Sunday.
01:08:32As we said, check out Jack's Pod, and thank you to Jack for joining us.
01:08:35We do appreciate it, obviously.
01:08:37Always good to have Noah.
01:08:39And as we said, Jake and those guys are coming on right now for more basketball talk with
01:08:44First to the Floor and Celtics late night, so you want to check that out as well.
01:08:49Until Sunday, we are out of here.
01:08:52Thanks again.
