00:00:02 - Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:00:07 Hard hats, munch pails, steel tool boots.
00:00:09 - Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:12 - Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:13 - You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:16 - Somebody said we need to apologize for Jaylen.
00:00:18 - Can I pull the John?
00:00:19 What are we apologizing for?
00:00:20 What did we say?
00:00:21 What did we do?
00:00:22 (upbeat music)
00:00:25 (upbeat music)
00:00:27 - Uh uh, uh uh, uh uh, uh uh, 2-0.
00:00:33 2-0 baby.
00:00:35 - I can't bop along with you right now because holy.
00:00:39 - Uh uh, uh uh, uh uh, uh uh.
00:00:41 Yeah, you gotta be professional over there.
00:00:43 I don't.
00:00:44 Hard hats, munch pails, steel tool boots.
00:00:47 Celtics are going to Dallas up 2-0.
00:00:52 - Still my heart.
00:00:54 - That was something.
00:00:57 - It's a nah.
00:00:59 - I have so many feelings right now.
00:01:02 - All good feelings, all good feelings.
00:01:04 - No, but it's. - Two more.
00:01:06 - Two more.
00:01:07 Two more.
00:01:10 A lot, a lot to unpack here.
00:01:12 - We're gonna get it out.
00:01:13 We're gonna get it all out.
00:01:14 Everybody inhale.
00:01:15 Hold it.
00:01:18 - A lot.
00:01:18 - Pinch it out.
00:01:19 - A lot.
00:01:22 - Breathing is important. - A lot to unpack.
00:01:24 - I mean, so it's hard to kind of dump it all out at once
00:01:29 because you do have the uncertainty involving Porzingis,
00:01:32 which will hang over this a little bit,
00:01:34 but almost outside of that,
00:01:36 almost every aspect of this is like,
00:01:39 I mean, and Jimmy, you and I,
00:01:40 we're on the same page in terms of what was gonna,
00:01:44 what we were, we've been.
00:01:46 - We've been lockstep.
00:01:48 - We've been lockstep in terms of our failure to understand
00:01:53 what it was that caused everybody to jump hard on the,
00:01:56 to jump hard on the Dallas bandwagon,
00:02:00 entering this series because it made no sense to me
00:02:02 and it made no sense to you.
00:02:03 And if you're Dallas, and again,
00:02:05 you're stuck with Luca and nothing else,
00:02:10 and you lose the game that the Celtics shoot 25% from three,
00:02:16 10 of 39 from three, and you lost that one.
00:02:21 That's disheartening. - Good night.
00:02:23 Say good night.
00:02:25 - That was your chance.
00:02:26 We talk about it, that was your door.
00:02:29 Mavericks steal this game on a poor shooting from Boston.
00:02:33 We're talking about a completely different series.
00:02:34 Instead, what it shows is that even when the Celtics shoot
00:02:38 like absolute dog, you know what?
00:02:41 Unless somebody else on this Mavericks team,
00:02:44 besides Luca decides to step up,
00:02:46 they just don't have enough forces in the stable.
00:02:49 - Mr. Kyrie Irving on PR tour right now.
00:02:52 He, again, no show in this one.
00:02:55 I mean, I'm very interested to see the smiles
00:02:58 and the, you know, whatever the hell he's gonna say tonight.
00:03:02 But this is the NBA finals.
00:03:03 So I think it's on PR tour.
00:03:06 - It's not the NBA finals yet.
00:03:08 It's the Kyrie Irving biopic that we're working on
00:03:11 behind the scenes here.
00:03:12 It's a documentary on the reformation of Kyrie Irving.
00:03:16 - Yeah, seriously.
00:03:17 I'm waiting for like the Apple announcement.
00:03:20 It's gonna be like a biography series on the guy.
00:03:24 Give me a break.
00:03:24 - He's gonna say the word journey a lot tonight
00:03:28 in his post game, I can tell you that.
00:03:29 - He beat it to it tonight.
00:03:30 - Journey.
00:03:31 (laughing)
00:03:32 - Man, he is in town.
00:03:34 - It's all just all part of, I'm just, hey,
00:03:39 this is the journey.
00:03:40 This is the path that I'm on right now.
00:03:42 A lot, a lot, a lot, a lot.
00:03:46 - I mean, yeah, it's hard hats and pink hats.
00:03:50 That's how we roll, Jimmy.
00:03:51 Jimmy, you're not wearing the new stuff?
00:03:54 - I was gonna toss it on when we made it.
00:03:57 I don't wanna jump into it.
00:03:58 I know that's gonna ruffle your feathers.
00:04:00 We'll get to it.
00:04:01 We'll get to it.
00:04:02 - We will get to it.
00:04:03 We're waiting for Sherrod Blakely.
00:04:04 He's gonna join us as well.
00:04:06 Nick Jelso.
00:04:07 That's good stuff.
00:04:09 Nick Jelso booming around the court somewhere.
00:04:11 He's gonna jump on as well.
00:04:13 Bobby Manning.
00:04:15 - Yeah, and we're gonna hold this thing down
00:04:17 for a little bit here.
00:04:18 - Oh, we're hanging out.
00:04:19 It's Sunday night.
00:04:20 We got an eight o'clock start, not an 8.30,
00:04:21 so we can go maybe a little bit longer.
00:04:23 Who knows?
00:04:24 We'll see.
00:04:25 We'll see who jumps in. - It's Sunday night.
00:04:27 People asking early, any early word on KP.
00:04:29 I don't think you're gonna get early word.
00:04:31 What I will say is these continued three-day rests
00:04:34 are terrific.
00:04:35 We don't know what happened to him here.
00:04:38 It appeared to be the left leg that he aggravated here.
00:04:44 So we'll see.
00:04:45 It was something a little funky
00:04:47 where he just kind of twisted and fell,
00:04:49 but we'll see what happened there.
00:04:51 But again, just crazy, crazy stuff here.
00:04:53 'Cause I mean, I'm not gonna say
00:04:56 that Celtics tried to lose it,
00:04:57 but things got hairy near the end.
00:04:59 And man, a couple of big plays
00:05:01 and people are gonna be talking about that chase down block
00:05:03 in, I wouldn't say quite the same vein as the LeBron block,
00:05:06 but it's in that, it's got that vibe.
00:05:09 It wasn't as close a game.
00:05:12 It wasn't game saving, you know,
00:05:15 because they still had, you know, a decent lead there,
00:05:18 but that changes everything.
00:05:19 If they don't come up with that, that was incredible.
00:05:22 They got, they got saved by-
00:05:25 - If they hit that layup or dunk, that's a three-point game.
00:05:28 And you don't wanna get into a three-point game
00:05:30 with Luka, the way he was hitting shots tonight.
00:05:33 And it's on the ensuing possession.
00:05:35 So that was a four-point swing.
00:05:37 - It's somber voice in the media workroom.
00:05:39 As soon as the court opens up, I'll be yelling out there.
00:05:41 Don't worry about it, okay?
00:05:42 I have to start with a little somber voice,
00:05:45 a little somber voice.
00:05:47 That's the downside.
00:05:48 That's the downside to on scene.
00:05:50 - Not over here, baby.
00:05:52 I can be loud, I can be proud.
00:05:54 I'll bring the noise tonight.
00:05:56 - I'm gonna need Jimmy to bring it up to 11
00:05:58 'cause I'm at about a, yeah.
00:06:00 - Yeah, you're about a three and a half right now.
00:06:02 - Yeah, I'm in a lot of people's way right now.
00:06:04 - I'm feeling good, feeling confident in this team.
00:06:07 It's a different energy around this team right now.
00:06:10 This is a game that, again, previous seasons,
00:06:13 they shoot that way.
00:06:14 They don't play the same level of defense
00:06:17 and they lose that game.
00:06:19 Tonight, they never gave up on the defensive end.
00:06:21 They actually turned it on even more.
00:06:23 We haven't even mentioned Drew Holiday's name yet,
00:06:25 but he was the player of the game tonight.
00:06:26 Drew Holiday on both ends of the court.
00:06:29 Just freaking beasting it.
00:06:31 Finding the open, just like kind of moving
00:06:34 all around the court, finding the open spots
00:06:37 in the paint, out of the paint.
00:06:40 Defensively, just locking on his guys,
00:06:42 shutting Kyrie down when he had that assignment.
00:06:46 Celtics in general just locked down defense tonight
00:06:49 from top to bottom.
00:06:52 Even Pritchard got in on the action.
00:06:53 Even the white guys were defending as Holiday likes to say.
00:06:56 So everybody contributed on that defensive end
00:06:59 and that was the difference in this game
00:07:00 because when the shots weren't falling, John,
00:07:03 it's easy to just hang your head
00:07:04 and try to shoot your way out of it,
00:07:05 but they got back in the game playing good defense
00:07:10 and trying to get in that transition game
00:07:11 and trying to get easier buckets in that first half
00:07:14 when they just could not hit a shot to Tatum.
00:07:19 Guys could not hit outside shots whatsoever tonight.
00:07:22 - I'm re-watching that block right now.
00:07:24 They blocked that PJ Washington dunk attempt like eight times.
00:07:28 - Yeah, right, right.
00:07:29 - It was white, then Jalen, then white, then Jalen again.
00:07:34 They must've blocked that thing 11 times
00:07:36 before it got off the backboard.
00:07:38 It's so good.
00:07:39 I still think Mavs in five.
00:07:43 - Yeah, it's gonna go down in the books.
00:07:44 - Yeah, I still think Mavs in five.
00:07:46 - It's either four or five now.
00:07:49 You think a gentlemen sweep situation?
00:07:53 - I had booked five and again,
00:07:58 I don't know what to do if you're jealous now.
00:08:01 I think you got the game you were looking for
00:08:04 and you had opportunities late and it didn't go.
00:08:11 You don't win this game.
00:08:13 I don't know which game you win.
00:08:15 You had Tatum.
00:08:18 - I don't know where it comes from.
00:08:19 - Tatum again.
00:08:21 Look, we're gonna have the Tatum conversation tonight.
00:08:24 We know how it's gonna go.
00:08:25 Doesn't matter.
00:08:26 It's still gonna be had.
00:08:28 Yes, he had a ton of assists.
00:08:30 - No, I didn't say Mavs in five, you goof.
00:08:32 I said Celtics in five.
00:08:33 - We did all say, we did say Celtics in five.
00:08:38 - And I almost said four.
00:08:39 Hey guys, look at Ahmet.
00:08:41 Where is he?
00:08:42 He left.
00:08:43 Oh God, he's slippery.
00:08:44 - He's quick.
00:08:45 He is very slippery.
00:08:47 - He's slippery.
00:08:48 - Where's he going, the court?
00:08:51 - He's slippery.
00:08:52 - Getting ready for the standup out there.
00:08:56 - He's going to court.
00:08:57 - This was the one, John.
00:08:58 I mean, you're right.
00:08:59 Tatum was just horrific.
00:09:00 - That's what it is.
00:09:00 - He got shot in the ball.
00:09:02 You had your opportunities, but again,
00:09:04 Luka got no help.
00:09:05 - I'm kidding, I'm kidding.
00:09:06 I didn't mean Celtics.
00:09:07 I was messing around.
00:09:08 Yeah, no help.
00:09:10 - Same story.
00:09:12 And he was on tonight.
00:09:13 I mean, they were even starting to double him
00:09:15 a little bit at times.
00:09:16 He was making the passes out,
00:09:18 but there's just nobody else.
00:09:20 Kyrie isn't that guy.
00:09:22 There's, after that, I mean, PJ Washington.
00:09:25 - Oh my God, guys, I said Mavs as a joke.
00:09:29 - When did you say Mavs?
00:09:31 - I said it earlier and everyone was-
00:09:32 - Orp is trolling you.
00:09:33 Orp is trolling you.
00:09:35 - It was a joke because so many analysts
00:09:38 picked the Mavs.
00:09:39 Anyway, moving on.
00:09:41 - My mom just texted me and said,
00:09:43 "You did say Mavs in five."
00:09:44 I literally just got that text.
00:09:45 - That John guy, that John guy.
00:09:48 Does Sherrod know what-
00:09:51 - Did you say Mavs in five?
00:09:52 I didn't know this.
00:09:53 - Did John say Mavs?
00:09:56 Is that what your mom sounds like?
00:09:57 - She said John did say Mavs.
00:10:00 - Did John say Mavs?
00:10:01 Guys, I don't want to hear this.
00:10:03 Tatum did a lot of good.
00:10:03 We have to be able to have this conversation
00:10:05 without arguing this way.
00:10:08 He did a lot of good.
00:10:09 - Well, you're talking about two different things.
00:10:10 - And he did a lot of bad.
00:10:12 - Right, exactly.
00:10:13 - Yes.
00:10:14 - It just depends on which part of his game
00:10:15 do you want to talk about?
00:10:16 - Everything about six for 22 is bad.
00:10:21 All of it.
00:10:21 That's bad.
00:10:22 - One for seven from three or something like that?
00:10:23 - One for seven from three is bad.
00:10:25 It is grossly, objectively, horribly bad.
00:10:30 Don't point to the almost triple-double.
00:10:31 He did pass well.
00:10:33 The shooting is a problem.
00:10:36 And the thing is, here's why it's not a problem.
00:10:40 Assuming Porzingis isn't toast
00:10:42 because that'll change some things.
00:10:44 It's not a problem because we said
00:10:45 at the beginning of the series,
00:10:46 and it appears to be the case,
00:10:48 you don't need Tatum to go off offensively
00:10:51 to win this series.
00:10:52 You need them to play defense,
00:10:55 make it hard on the Mavericks,
00:10:56 space those guys out offensively,
00:10:58 get their threes up.
00:10:59 They're never gonna shoot this poorly again.
00:11:01 And they win this game and they win this series.
00:11:03 That's all they have to do.
00:11:05 You know, that's all they have to do.
00:11:06 And again, this was the game the Mavs win.
00:11:10 It's the way the games the Mavs should win,
00:11:12 and they did not.
00:11:13 So yeah, it's gonna be hard not to talk about,
00:11:15 and I don't want to go there.
00:11:17 It's gonna be hard not to talk about Tatum
00:11:19 and what's going on there,
00:11:20 and Porzingis, what's going on there.
00:11:21 But it doesn't matter as much when you're up 2-0
00:11:24 and they needed this one bad and they got it.
00:11:27 And it was great.
00:11:28 So let's get into the guys who did,
00:11:30 you know, did the good stuff.
00:11:32 And let's start with Holiday.
00:11:35 Best game ever?
00:11:36 - It's definitely up there.
00:11:38 I mean, considering the situation.
00:11:39 - And credit Tatum for this.
00:11:42 Yeah, Mavs were trying to,
00:11:43 I think Mavs were trying to reduce threes.
00:11:45 And obviously again, they really packed the paint
00:11:47 and they didn't want, you know,
00:11:49 you know, them to attack and them to,
00:11:52 you know, get to the rim.
00:11:54 And Tatum, instead of kicking up for three all the time,
00:11:57 which he still did, you know, sometimes,
00:11:59 he was finding Holiday in and around the rim
00:12:01 with those little cuts.
00:12:02 He found White on the baseline a couple of times.
00:12:03 He found Tatum running the baseline for a two-handed slam.
00:12:06 Those little things around the basket were vital
00:12:10 for a team that wasn't hitting their threes.
00:12:11 So again, Tatum is gonna get his flowers for that,
00:12:13 but Holiday was everywhere he needed to be.
00:12:15 But man, what a crafty little finisher around the net.
00:12:18 He was just, he was just unbelievable.
00:12:20 He was, and the defense,
00:12:22 his defense was a 12 out of 10 tonight.
00:12:24 He was so freaking good.
00:12:26 He was so good on Kyrie.
00:12:27 He was terrific on Luka, particularly, you know,
00:12:31 when Porzingis was out there
00:12:32 and they're trying to run those screens
00:12:34 and he's helping him so Porzingis can drop
00:12:36 and he's able to get back there.
00:12:38 And so there wouldn't be open shooters or lobs.
00:12:40 The way that he played that on those, you know,
00:12:43 on those screens, he was so freaking good
00:12:48 in so many different ways.
00:12:49 So, I mean, he doesn't just get the brownie.
00:12:52 Holiday all of a sudden is in the conversation
00:12:55 for finals MVP.
00:12:57 - Oh, I mean, yeah, absolutely.
00:12:59 And he's the type of player
00:13:00 that you know he's not just gonna fall off.
00:13:02 He's gonna bring in each game.
00:13:03 Now, the reason why it might not happen
00:13:05 is because those 26 points,
00:13:07 that's not typical for Holiday.
00:13:09 I mean, he was, you know,
00:13:11 on a night where Tatum was looking for guys
00:13:12 because his shot wasn't falling,
00:13:14 Holiday benefited a little bit more from that.
00:13:16 And that's great because he made everything count.
00:13:17 I mean, look at that efficiency, 11 to 14.
00:13:20 But what Holiday gives you is just that freaking presence
00:13:23 on the defensive side of things.
00:13:24 His calmness out there, just,
00:13:26 he's been a godsend to this team, really has been.
00:13:31 I mean, you can just see the difference
00:13:33 when he's out there on the court,
00:13:34 just making the smart play.
00:13:36 He's tenacious, he's nonstop.
00:13:39 And you can just tell that guys
00:13:41 on the opposite side of the court,
00:13:43 they just get so,
00:13:47 they just get kind of like deflated by it.
00:13:49 You know, it's just like, oh, this guy is nonstop.
00:13:52 He's in here, he's smart.
00:13:53 He's not gonna pick up, you know,
00:13:55 a lot of ticky tack fouls.
00:13:57 I think he got one tonight that I remember.
00:13:59 But overall, just an unbelievable game for him with,
00:14:03 you know, everything's on line.
00:14:04 This has to go down as one of his,
00:14:06 maybe his best game of his career.
00:14:07 No turnovers on top of it all.
00:14:09 So just a complete game from him.
00:14:15 - Hey, John.
00:14:16 - Yeah, hold on.
00:14:17 - Just a complete game from Naughty.
00:14:18 (laughs)
00:14:20 We got Sherrod in here, should I bring him in?
00:14:23 - Is he ready?
00:14:25 - Yeah.
00:14:27 He's ready, he's nodding.
00:14:27 I'm gonna bring him in.
00:14:29 And he's in.
00:14:31 John's busy.
00:14:32 What's up, Sherrod? - What's up, fellas?
00:14:34 What's going on?
00:14:35 - Good to see you, man.
00:14:36 - You as well.
00:14:38 - How's the game?
00:14:39 - You know, just another holiday season.
00:14:42 Festivities going on here.
00:14:43 - Absolutely.
00:14:45 It's holiday season, man.
00:14:46 - It is holiday season.
00:14:48 Tomorrow should be a holiday.
00:14:50 - I tell you what, though.
00:14:51 The thing that I was wondering about going into this game
00:14:54 was how much would the Celtics really look
00:14:57 to take advantage of what Luka does not do defensively.
00:15:01 And damn, Joe beat that to death.
00:15:06 There's a reason why Drew Holiday went off like this.
00:15:08 They ran pick and roll action,
00:15:09 and whoever Luka stayed with,
00:15:11 that's who was going to flip the score.
00:15:14 Remember, Tatum was one for eight at one point,
00:15:16 and people forget that the next basket he made
00:15:19 was when Luka decided to stay with Tatum
00:15:20 instead of staying with Drew.
00:15:22 Tatum got a bucket.
00:15:23 It was that basic for much of this game.
00:15:27 They wore Luka down.
00:15:29 Luka had a phenomenal game,
00:15:30 and he showed why he's one of the best top three,
00:15:34 top four players in NBA.
00:15:35 But he can't carry this team by himself.
00:15:38 - Nobody can.
00:15:39 - There were too many stretches
00:15:41 where he did everything and then some,
00:15:44 but needed a little bit of something.
00:15:46 He needed guys to make open shots,
00:15:48 and they struggled to do that.
00:15:50 - The NBA is too good now.
00:15:52 You can't carry a team on your back anymore,
00:15:55 certainly not in a playoff series.
00:15:57 You might be able to get, you know,
00:15:58 you're going to get your regular season wins here and there
00:16:00 on a 50-point night or whatever,
00:16:02 but I don't care if you're Luka.
00:16:04 I don't care if you're Joker.
00:16:05 Whoever you are, you need skilled players around you,
00:16:09 and this Celtics team has it.
00:16:11 Regardless of whether you think Tatum's the best
00:16:14 or Brown's the best, they've got guys all around them.
00:16:17 And tonight it was Holiday,
00:16:18 the one that clearly stood out above everybody else
00:16:22 in the way that he was able to be effective
00:16:23 on both ends of the court.
00:16:25 Derek White had a massive game.
00:16:27 He hit some big shots.
00:16:28 He obviously had, you know, that chase down block there
00:16:31 that everyone's going to be talking about
00:16:32 and remembering when you go back, Sherrod,
00:16:35 years from now when we're watching the,
00:16:36 when we're, knock on wood,
00:16:38 if we are watching a DVD of this team,
00:16:41 I say DVD, but let's be honest, it's going to be a-
00:16:45 - It'll be a hologram, Jimmy.
00:16:46 It'll be a hologram.
00:16:47 - That play will be-
00:16:48 - We'll be watching a hologram.
00:16:49 - Exactly.
00:16:50 We'll be just seeing it live in front of us again,
00:16:51 but that play will show up on there for good reason.
00:16:54 I mean, that changed, you know,
00:16:56 that changed the huge momentum swing
00:16:58 because all of a sudden Dallas goes on their little,
00:17:00 what is it, 9-0 run or something.
00:17:01 And they're looking at a one possession game
00:17:03 if that goes down and that block,
00:17:05 and then in swing possession, the Celtics end up scoring.
00:17:08 So I know that was a white thing,
00:17:10 but the guards in general, Holiday and Wyatt,
00:17:12 and Pritchard even getting in on the action,
00:17:14 making the most of his time on that defensive end tonight.
00:17:17 He was guarding Luca as best he could
00:17:18 and had a couple of good one-on-one matchups there.
00:17:22 And then obviously the half court shot to end that,
00:17:25 to end that was a lot of fun at the end of the third quarter.
00:17:28 So all hands on deck, and that's what it's about.
00:17:31 You know, kid wants to talk about who their best,
00:17:33 who the Celtics best player is.
00:17:36 It was Holiday tonight.
00:17:37 So that just goes to show you that on any given night,
00:17:40 it can be one through five on this team, right?
00:17:42 I mean, Porzingis coming out the way he did in game one
00:17:46 was the best player for a stretch.
00:17:48 And then it was Brown, and then tonight it was Holiday,
00:17:50 and then it was Brown, and then there was, you know,
00:17:51 then it was White for a stretch.
00:17:53 So they keep coming in, but on the Dallas side of things,
00:17:56 there's only one guy that stands out, and that's Luca.
00:17:58 Kyrie no-showed again, the Kyrie PR tour rolls on,
00:18:02 but as far as the NBA finals goes, he's had two bad games.
00:18:07 He had a good first quarter and then he disappeared.
00:18:10 And if you're thinking about talking about anybody else
00:18:12 than that Mavericks, there's not really much else
00:18:14 to talk about.
00:18:15 - No, I mean, the bottom line is the Celtics
00:18:17 are living rent free and Kyrie's happy, point blank.
00:18:20 When you are as good a player as Kyrie Irving is,
00:18:24 and you consistently struggle against a team
00:18:27 that has gone through different variations
00:18:29 over the last few years, it can't just be about them
00:18:33 being elite defensively while you're struggling.
00:18:36 There's a mental component to this that is keeping him
00:18:39 from being the player that we have seen
00:18:42 throughout his time in NBA.
00:18:44 I mean, the Kyrie Irving that we're seeing now
00:18:47 is very much like the Kyrie Irving from game five
00:18:50 in his last game as a Celtic against Milwaukee,
00:18:52 where he was just horrible.
00:18:55 He's a much better player than what we've seen
00:18:57 in this series, we know that.
00:18:59 - Well, again, the Celtics, and again,
00:19:01 this is why Jimmy and I liked the Mavericks in five.
00:19:05 Just kidding, why we said Celtics in five,
00:19:08 because I-- - Don't put me in with you.
00:19:10 - I know, I didn't think this was a Kyrie series
00:19:13 because the Celtics are, look, the Celtics are uniquely
00:19:17 equipped to both make life as hard as one can make it
00:19:20 on Luka, which they do.
00:19:23 He's hitting contested step backs,
00:19:25 and he's working really hard for his buckets.
00:19:29 He really is, nothing is easy there.
00:19:31 But Irving-- - He makes it look easy,
00:19:33 but it's not.
00:19:34 - He's amazing, he's amazing.
00:19:35 Irving, you got guys who can stay with him laterally,
00:19:38 and guys who can body him, and how many times
00:19:41 did Kyrie think he was gonna break somebody down
00:19:44 to get a shot, and he had to just bail late in a shot clock
00:19:48 because he could not get to any shot.
00:19:51 It happened a lot of times.
00:19:53 It wasn't just the poor shooting.
00:19:55 He, they, the Celtics wrecked like four, five,
00:19:59 six possessions where Irving was just dribbling
00:20:03 the air out of the ball, trying to do his pretty,
00:20:06 you know, dribbling thing, and he couldn't get there.
00:20:10 He couldn't get where he wanted to go,
00:20:11 and that's everybody, that includes Pritchard.
00:20:14 Pritchard was amazing on Luka as well, defensively.
00:20:17 Amazing on him, but it didn't matter.
00:20:20 Those guys absolutely made life extremely difficult
00:20:25 on him all game long, and again, I just didn't think
00:20:29 this was a Kyrie type of series.
00:20:30 You need Luka and Kyrie to have dominant performances
00:20:34 nightly just to be in contention to win in this series,
00:20:39 and that's, you know, and again, and you can still get it,
00:20:44 and they lose, and that absolutely could happen
00:20:47 'cause the Celtics, you could've gotten 25 from Kyrie
00:20:49 tonight, and the Celtics shoot their level
00:20:51 from three-point lane, they still win, yeah.
00:20:53 - Yeah, I mean, in my sub stack today, I mentioned that,
00:20:56 you know, Kyrie needed to come into this game
00:20:58 and be one of the top three players.
00:21:00 I'm not even sure he was top three on his team,
00:21:02 let alone in this game, so I mean, when that happens,
00:21:06 Dallas has no shot at winning if he's not one of the top
00:21:08 two players because, again, they don't have the kind of depth
00:21:11 that the Celtics do where you can have guys playing
00:21:13 their normal game, and you can still be anyone in the league.
00:21:16 Dallas isn't built for that.
00:21:18 - Yeah, yeah.
00:21:20 - That's it.
00:21:23 - And the eight turnovers, yeah, that was, I mean,
00:21:24 obviously that was a problem, but this, they would've lost
00:21:28 by 30 if it wasn't for Luca.
00:21:30 I mean, yeah, he had eight turnovers, and some of them
00:21:33 were, I think, Celtics defense, some of them were just,
00:21:36 felt like fatigue turnovers, that he was just mentally
00:21:39 worn down, but he had 32 points on an incredibly efficient
00:21:43 12-for-21 shooting, so he gets a little bit of grace.
00:21:47 - But they made it hard, they made it hard on him.
00:21:49 They made it really hard, and they keep putting him
00:21:52 in actions and defensively making life really, really hard
00:21:54 and making him work, and that's why he's gonna tail
00:21:56 and he's gonna wear late in those games,
00:21:59 'cause they're running him ragged.
00:22:00 And again, the defense, 100%, this is the best thing
00:22:03 about this, and as you can see here, I'd say the number one
00:22:06 thing that you can feel good about with the Celtics
00:22:09 is they did not allow offensive woes to get in their head
00:22:14 defensively at any point in time.
00:22:17 It did not translate.
00:22:19 When you shoot as poorly as they shoot, sometimes you see
00:22:21 that drag over on the defensive side, and it didn't.
00:22:24 Both games, they have had almost, with rare exception,
00:22:28 almost zero letdown defensively for 48 minutes.
00:22:32 So any concerns, if you talked about Celtics concerns
00:22:35 entering the playoffs, what happens if they don't hit threes?
00:22:39 Is that a loss?
00:22:40 Nope, guess not.
00:22:41 What happens if they don't take games seriously
00:22:43 or take a night off, you know, like they did
00:22:46 against Golden State in 2022?
00:22:47 Well, they haven't, not even close.
00:22:49 The reason I felt great about this game at the half
00:22:52 was the shots weren't falling,
00:22:56 but they were busting their ass.
00:22:57 They are playing so hard and so unselfishly right now.
00:23:02 It's incredible.
00:23:03 So you can see how locked in they are in terms of like,
00:23:06 I don't give a crap who's getting it and who's scoring it.
00:23:10 And people are gonna wrongly make, people are gonna jump
00:23:12 to a bunch of wrong conclusions about this team, I think,
00:23:15 saying like, they're gonna start making 2004 Pistons
00:23:18 references, no, that's not who this is.
00:23:20 But they have much better talent there.
00:23:24 And I mean, Sherrod knows as well as anybody here.
00:23:27 That's not an apt comparison.
00:23:29 They're just playing a selfless brand of basketball
00:23:32 right now.
00:23:32 Yeah, I mean, as someone who covered that 2004 Pistons team,
00:23:36 this team is better talent.
00:23:39 This team is deeper.
00:23:41 And frankly, this team, they're just built,
00:23:44 they're built in a way that they really don't have
00:23:47 a secret sauce or a certain path that they gotta take
00:23:49 to beat you.
00:23:50 I mean, they can beat you with size,
00:23:52 they can beat you with athleticism,
00:23:53 they can beat you with depth.
00:23:54 They've got guys who are at the top of the food chain
00:23:56 who can dominate.
00:23:57 They've got guys like Pritchard and Al coming off the bench
00:24:01 or Brazilians coming off the bench
00:24:02 who can dominate in those reserve roles.
00:24:04 They're just a different kind of team.
00:24:05 And they're the favorites.
00:24:07 They came into this as a favorites.
00:24:09 The Pistons team was the underdog to the Lakers.
00:24:14 Yeah, I mean, this Celtics team was built for this moment
00:24:19 better than any other team in the league.
00:24:23 And again, we're not there yet.
00:24:25 You're not there yet because it's still two wins to go,
00:24:28 but certainly, they are not fucking around right now.
00:24:33 They're not at all.
00:24:37 And you can tell here, and I'm Dallas, I'm really worried.
00:24:41 What else people are worried about?
00:24:43 What are we worried about?
00:24:44 A little bit of stuff.
00:24:46 - Porzingis.
00:24:46 - You know, Chris Epps, Porzingis, a little bit.
00:24:49 He did leave the game here.
00:24:51 He appeared to injure his left leg late in the fourth quarter.
00:24:55 Joe Mazzulla with some very reassuring words right now
00:24:59 for Celtics fans out there who are concerned.
00:25:03 - Joe right here.
00:25:04 Joe Gordon, The Athletic.
00:25:06 Did Porzingis reactivate the calf
00:25:09 and what's your concern about him for game three?
00:25:11 - No, Joe, he's good.
00:25:12 - Do we believe that?
00:25:13 I don't know.
00:25:14 I don't know what to believe.
00:25:15 - Zero, he's good.
00:25:17 - He's good.
00:25:18 So.
00:25:19 - I'll tell you another good sign.
00:25:21 Another good sign.
00:25:23 When people talk to the media after games,
00:25:25 following injuries, that's usually good.
00:25:29 Chris Epps, Porzingis is talking
00:25:30 in the locker room right now.
00:25:31 If you're trying to hide somebody from people for reasons,
00:25:36 and if there's concern,
00:25:37 you're not gonna be able to talk to them.
00:25:39 For reasons, and if there's concern,
00:25:42 if there's, well, we're gonna have some imaging done tomorrow
00:25:44 and blah, blah, blah, and this and that.
00:25:46 When that happens, you do not talk to them.
00:25:48 They go on ice,
00:25:50 and then you keep everybody guessing for three days.
00:25:52 Look, is there, might you put them out there
00:25:54 to make the Mavericks think everything is fine
00:25:56 and maybe it's not?
00:25:57 Yeah, sure, there could be gamesmanship
00:25:59 in the other direction with something like that.
00:26:01 But typically, you throw a guy out there to talk,
00:26:05 he's talking now, that's probably a good sign.
00:26:07 So I think huge sigh of relief on the Porzingis stuff.
00:26:11 I mean, and here's the thing,
00:26:12 whether it's 100% accurate or not,
00:26:15 it's still better than, I don't know,
00:26:20 nobody, I didn't see him, I didn't talk to him,
00:26:22 nobody, blah, blah, blah, you know,
00:26:23 like you don't wanna hear that.
00:26:24 So I'm glad we didn't get that aspect of it.
00:26:27 Guys, I'm gonna let you guys carry the load
00:26:30 for just a little bit, 'cause I am going to relocate.
00:26:33 I'm not doing it just yet, though.
00:26:35 So I'm just giving you guys a little bit of a warning.
00:26:37 I'm giving you guys a little warning.
00:26:39 I'll do all the merch stuff when you leave,
00:26:41 that way you don't have to deal with it.
00:26:43 Oh, thank God.
00:26:44 It'll be perfect.
00:26:45 It'll be perfect.
00:26:47 Thank God.
00:26:48 If you're looking for merch news,
00:26:48 just wait for Jon to leave.
00:26:50 Okay, well, just to get a piggyback off--
00:26:51 No, there's a lot of merch news.
00:26:53 Right.
00:26:54 Just to piggyback off what Jon was talking about
00:26:56 with Porzingis, I mean, his numbers obviously weren't
00:26:59 as dominant as they were in game one,
00:27:01 but his presence was felt.
00:27:03 And that's what you need from him at this point.
00:27:05 You know, the Celtics have figured out how to be successful
00:27:08 whether he's in the lineup or without him,
00:27:10 but obviously they're better with him.
00:27:12 And it's just a matter of figuring out
00:27:13 what's the best way to utilize his particular skill set.
00:27:16 I thought the Mavericks tried to go at him
00:27:18 a little bit more than they did in game one.
00:27:21 And Porzingis, to his credit, I thought held his own.
00:27:24 Sometimes he made big plays, other times he got beat.
00:27:26 That's gonna happen when you're kind of working
00:27:29 your way back into shape.
00:27:31 But the Celtics team, again, his play is a reminder
00:27:35 of why so many people thought the Celtics team
00:27:39 is the team to beat, and that he would be the X Factor,
00:27:42 because he's the guy that when he's out on the floor,
00:27:45 he makes the job of everyone around him easy.
00:27:47 The Celtics, I mean, it's like a team where you're playing,
00:27:53 you know, you're playing spades or something,
00:27:55 and they got the ace of spades,
00:27:57 but you've got the king, queen of every other color set.
00:28:01 And guess what?
00:28:02 You're probably gonna win that game
00:28:04 because you've got more cards to play that have value.
00:28:07 - I play a lot of spade charade, so I like that.
00:28:10 I do, I like spades a lot.
00:28:13 - We're there, we're there.
00:28:16 - I do, it's just the thing.
00:28:18 What else do I like?
00:28:19 I like prize picks a lot.
00:28:21 And if you guys are into it
00:28:22 and you wanna get in on the action,
00:28:24 there might only be two more games here.
00:28:25 It doesn't mean that's the only thing you can do,
00:28:27 but America's got the fantasy sports app,

00:29:17 use a code CLNS for a first deposit match up to 100.
00:29:22 We also wanna tell you about game time.
00:29:24 Guys, I mean, I know people are watching us
00:29:27 all over the country.
00:29:28 In Boston, you might've missed your shot.
00:29:30 You might've missed your shot.
00:29:31 I don't know.
00:29:32 I can't-
00:29:33 - One of my guys, John,
00:29:35 you know, I never cut you off in the middle of a read,
00:29:37 but one of my guys got into this game with his son
00:29:40 and he used the game time app.
00:29:42 And it saved him a ton of money, ton of money.
00:29:45 Because he was looking for tickets all day long
00:29:47 and he waited till about maybe an hour,
00:29:49 hour and a half before, pulled the trigger,
00:29:51 got in at a good price.
00:29:53 - Wow.
00:29:54 - Sherrod, I don't mind when you do it.
00:29:55 It's just Jimmy,
00:29:56 I'll tell you guys here as we bring in Nick Jelso
00:29:58 from the court.
00:29:59 Game time, as you said, great story there, Sherrod.
00:30:02 Someone did use the ticket price to go down.
00:30:05 It's an authorized ticket marketplace,
00:30:06 makes getting NBA finals tickets faster and easier.
00:30:09 And I was eyeballing it too,
00:30:11 just to see what the get in price was.
00:30:13 Lowest I could find was about 605,
00:30:15 but that was about four or five o'clock.
00:30:17 I think you could get in a little bit better than that.
00:30:19 So again, game time has you covered here.
00:30:22 For this and all sorts of high profile events,
00:30:25 it's concert season here too.
00:30:26 So you got a lot of different things

00:31:08 Last minute tickets, lowest price guaranteed.
00:31:11 Nick Gelso, let's get the boomer report from you.
00:31:13 I'm gonna head out, relocate a little bit
00:31:15 'cause I can get a little peppier
00:31:16 once I get out of the media room.
00:31:18 So that's what I'm gonna do, okay?
00:31:20 - No more somber voice for John.
00:31:22 (laughing)
00:31:24 - I livened it up as it got through,
00:31:26 but first I start like I'm on the 18th green at Augusta.
00:31:29 You know, like that's just kinda how it goes.
00:31:32 - You know, there could be some Mavs reporters
00:31:33 are looming around.
00:31:35 - I know, like, what is this guy saying, the Mavs suck?
00:31:38 - Yeah, I did.
00:31:39 - John, will you leave so we could defend Tatum?
00:31:42 Will you get out of here?
00:31:43 - Oh, he's gone.
00:31:45 - Can I tell you this before I go?
00:31:48 I think Tatum had an excellent game.
00:31:53 - Really?
00:31:55 - I do, 'cause his driving set the tone for the offense
00:31:59 the whole game long,
00:32:00 and I'm not playing the whole potential assist
00:32:02 and this and that.
00:32:03 He drove relentlessly, and that was the only thing
00:32:06 that they had going offensively,
00:32:07 and it created almost everything that they got going.
00:32:10 He assisted on so many of Holiday's buckets.
00:32:12 I really do think that this was a good Tatum game,
00:32:15 but also he's gotta shoot better.
00:32:17 Those two things can, you know, coexist in the same brain.
00:32:21 He shot horribly.
00:32:22 I still think every time he goes across the rim,
00:32:25 he misses those layups.
00:32:27 He has to go strong and just live with whatever happens
00:32:29 if he decides he's gonna try to score.
00:32:31 Every time he goes across the rim, he misses it, every time.
00:32:35 So go strong if you're gonna go there,
00:32:37 and he's gotta embrace a little bit of a midi game there.
00:32:39 If he gets into the lane, do the Luca, you know,
00:32:41 shoot those little fadeaways from the free throw line area.
00:32:45 He's gotta vary things a little.
00:32:46 He was getting by people,
00:32:48 but what he was doing next was weird.
00:32:49 But again, I still think he had a great game.
00:32:51 I wanted to say that before everyone said,
00:32:53 "Zionis thinks he sucks,"
00:32:55 'cause I can't defend myself for the next 10 minutes, bye.
00:32:58 - We're gonna say a lot worse about you.
00:33:00 - Let me have it, I don't care.
00:33:02 - All right, I'm the captain now.
00:33:05 - Okay, Coach Cascano.
00:33:08 - What's up, Nick?
00:33:10 - Yeah, Coach Cascano here. - What's up, guys?
00:33:12 - Two-oh, what's up? - How you doing?
00:33:15 - Where you at right now, Nick?
00:33:17 - Right now I'm in Lodge 19 overlooking,
00:33:20 well, I'm not overlooking, but behind me,
00:33:22 you can see the Parquet and the Jumbotron.
00:33:25 John will be coming out over here
00:33:27 in the media section probably, but yeah.
00:33:30 Up two-oh, it wasn't pretty, right?
00:33:34 But it was a win is a win,
00:33:37 and up two-oh in the NBA Panels when we go into Dallas,
00:33:40 but we know this team plays well on the road.
00:33:43 I'm feeling very good, very good.
00:33:46 I hope you guys are too.
00:33:47 And I'm also not gonna black hate him either,
00:33:50 because all for the last how many years,
00:33:53 saying when the dude can't shoot,
00:33:54 he's gotta do other things.
00:33:57 He's been doing other things.
00:33:58 I mean, Tatum and Brown,
00:33:59 I think they had 20 assists combined,
00:34:01 and Brown was incredible again.
00:34:05 The scoring was very, very evenly distributed.
00:34:09 I like this game.
00:34:10 I mean, I can't tell you how many times
00:34:12 I looked up at the scoreboard
00:34:13 thinking that the Celtics were losing,
00:34:15 and they were up by six or eight.
00:34:17 And I don't know if that's so much of a tribute to them
00:34:20 or kind of a little bit of a put down on Dallas,
00:34:24 because they just can't keep up.
00:34:26 Not if they're gonna keep playing
00:34:27 where Kyrie is non-existent.
00:34:29 - Yeah, I mean, this is, to me,
00:34:34 this was yet another reminder as to why
00:34:37 the Celtics are just an incredibly difficult team
00:34:41 to deal with at either end of the floor.
00:34:43 Because offensively, they've got so many guys
00:34:45 that can go out there and get you 20, 30 points
00:34:47 on any given night that you really can't lock in on one guy.
00:34:50 And defensively, even when you're trying to run
00:34:52 pick and roll action, and you're trying to get a matchup
00:34:54 that you think can work,
00:34:55 you're dealing with a pretty damn good defender
00:34:58 that you're switching onto.
00:34:59 And even if you beat him,
00:35:00 there's such good help side defenders
00:35:03 that are so locked in playing on one string
00:35:05 that even, like, there are a number of possessions
00:35:07 where Kyrie Irving, I think, felt he had a clear
00:35:10 or relatively clear path to the lane,
00:35:12 only to have Al Horford or Drew Holiday or Tatum
00:35:17 or Jalen Brown or Derek White.
00:35:18 Someone in that pathway just pops up at the last minute.
00:35:22 And that's what championship teams do.
00:35:25 You figure out ways to impact winning,
00:35:28 and it doesn't have to necessarily be the same guy
00:35:31 over and over and over again.
00:35:33 - I just, before you go, all right, go ahead, Jeremy.
00:35:37 - Go on, I'll take it.
00:35:39 - No, no, I was just gonna say,
00:35:41 after covering Kyrie and everything,
00:35:44 I just, I can't believe how he is really being rattled
00:35:49 by this crowd.
00:35:50 I mean, he really is.
00:35:52 It's so obvious,
00:35:53 and he didn't have as many turnovers tonight,
00:35:55 but just sloppy, like, just flailing everywhere.
00:35:59 He just looked flustered.
00:36:01 I mean, I love it.
00:36:02 I love to see Kyrie flustered.
00:36:04 I'm just shocked because he's always been a killer.
00:36:07 - Well, fans are living rent free in his head.
00:36:09 To me, there's absolutely no doubt about that.
00:36:11 They are living rent free in his head.
00:36:13 - They're not, and the energy level that-
00:36:15 - Love to hear it.
00:36:16 - The energy level that they have had in the past
00:36:19 isn't even at that same level.
00:36:21 It's almost like they're bored to some extent with-
00:36:23 - Yes.
00:36:24 - Just Tom, because it's very unusual and unexpected,
00:36:29 because again, and we talked about this earlier,
00:36:31 he's such a phenomenal player.
00:36:33 One of the best in the NBA, talent-wise.
00:36:37 You're not gonna get an argument from me,
00:36:38 and not from most people about that,
00:36:40 but for whatever reason,
00:36:41 whatever he steps on that parquet,
00:36:43 at least ever since 2021,
00:36:45 - I didn't get in.
00:36:46 - He's just been a shell of the player
00:36:48 that we've custom seen.
00:36:50 Hey, Xanis is back in the building.
00:36:53 Oh, he's gone.
00:36:54 - Yeah, he's gone.
00:36:55 - I want Jimmy to merch it up, so go ahead.
00:36:57 - I gotta merch it up.
00:36:58 John can't be on when I do it
00:37:00 because he wants to pull his hair out, so.
00:37:02 - He gets annoyed for some reason.
00:37:04 - Yeah, there he is.
00:37:05 And here's the thing.
00:37:07 People are in the merch store buying stuff.
00:37:09 I want everyone to know that there's a code right now
00:37:11 to get 20% off in the merch store.
00:37:13 So I'm trying to help you guys out at home
00:37:16 who are interested in buying some products.
00:37:18 Use the code 2more, we already know what that means,
00:37:19 20% off at shop.clnsmedia.com.
00:37:23 One of the things you can buy, guys,
00:37:25 your own hard hats.
00:37:31 The hard hats are back.
00:37:33 And they're selling like hotcakes, all right?
00:37:36 I told you guys we were gonna have them.
00:37:38 You guys know we already have them,
00:37:39 we've been selling this weekend.
00:37:41 We got a limited supply again,
00:37:42 so they're up on the merch store
00:37:44 for as long as they're available.
00:37:46 Going out faster than they're coming in.
00:37:49 We've got the shamrock.
00:37:50 We've got, there it is right there, hard hats,
00:37:53 lunch pails, these heel toe boots.
00:37:56 The guardrails, the logo.
00:37:57 This is a real hard hat though.
00:37:58 - That's sweet.
00:37:59 - This is a real hard hat. - That is sweet, Jimmy.
00:38:01 - Got the nice padding in the front, in the back, snap in.
00:38:04 - John is getting so annoyed.
00:38:06 - You can throw a brick in this.
00:38:07 - No, I love it.
00:38:08 - That is pretty damn good, Jimmy.
00:38:10 - I'm just watching our viewers whittle away.
00:38:13 (laughing)
00:38:15 - They've actually gone up a little bit.
00:38:16 They whittled away on your soliloquy
00:38:17 on Tatum before you left.
00:38:19 - No, I feel like there's about 300,
00:38:21 I believe there's 300 fewer since I left and came back.
00:38:25 - Here we go.
00:38:25 - Because of that Tatum rant you went on,
00:38:27 I wanted to get my Tatum taken.
00:38:28 You went on for 10 minutes in the Zanis way.
00:38:31 - We got hard hats, we got T-shirts,
00:38:33 and we're in the Garden Report logo.
00:38:34 - Nick, I'm not talking now, buddy.
00:38:36 I wanna hear your stuff.
00:38:38 - We got Phenomenal Tees, we got Mugs,
00:38:41 we got Cedric Maxwell Tees, we got all the stuff.
00:38:43 So two more for 20% off.
00:38:46 - I gotta tell you, how many people--
00:38:48 - Get your hard hats before they sell out.
00:38:50 - How many people tonight were wearing
00:38:52 the Cedric Maxwell T-shirt here at the Garden?
00:38:54 I saw like 20 or 30 people with that T-shirt on.
00:38:58 I didn't see any hard hats, Jimmy, I'm sorry.
00:39:00 - Raise your hand if you think Nick's exaggerating
00:39:02 by about 15 shirts.
00:39:05 - I think he's exaggerating a little bit.
00:39:07 - Okay, I saw Max's daughter with it on.
00:39:09 I saw Max's daughter with it on.
00:39:12 - After game one, I've been shipped out.
00:39:14 - I saw one person five times.
00:39:16 - It was Max's daughter.
00:39:20 - Nice.
00:39:21 Well, they're starting to trickle out.
00:39:24 My dream is to see a TD Garden full of hard hats.
00:39:27 That's my dream.
00:39:27 - The audio's bad.
00:39:28 - They're shipping out, they're going out today,
00:39:30 they went out yesterday.
00:39:32 Everything sold, everything that we sell
00:39:34 is gonna be shipped out at the very latest by Wednesday.
00:39:37 We've got them coming in as much as we can.
00:39:40 So, that's the spiel.
00:39:42 Nick, we can hear you.
00:39:45 - Ahmet thought that maybe I was disconnected
00:39:49 because I'm the boss and no one could hear me
00:39:52 when I was talking.
00:39:53 I'm just kidding.
00:39:54 They couldn't hear me.
00:39:55 I got tired of merch, Jimmy.
00:39:59 - I'm done.
00:40:01 - All right, back to John.
00:40:04 - No, I want you guys to take it.
00:40:06 Go ahead.
00:40:07 - Well, I wanna go to Holiday
00:40:08 'cause we have a good clip from Holiday here.
00:40:09 And yesterday he talked, he was asked the question.
00:40:12 Basically, what Jason Kidd has said.
00:40:14 - Sharad, I'm gonna mute you, buddy.
00:40:15 It's a little loud there, sorry.
00:40:16 Go ahead, go ahead, Jimmy.
00:40:18 - Oh, yesterday, everyone knows that Jason Kidd
00:40:21 had said that basically that he was saying
00:40:23 that Brown was the best player in the team,
00:40:24 trying to pit Brown and Tatum up against each other.
00:40:27 Holiday commented on it yesterday,
00:40:28 said something along the lines of he's not lying.
00:40:30 - Hells yeah, he is.
00:40:32 - Yeah, no, he's not lying.
00:40:33 He's just throwing support behind Jaylen Brown
00:40:34 and he wanted to make a point
00:40:36 to start his post-game press conference
00:40:39 addressing that comment.
00:40:40 So let's see what he had to say here.
00:40:42 - Yeah, sure.
00:40:43 - I just wanna address the comment that was made yesterday.
00:40:47 Oh, nice ringtone.
00:40:48 - Oh, sorry.
00:40:49 - I feel like people kind of took that out of context
00:40:53 and I've been hearing that I prefer JB over JT
00:40:57 and that's not what that was.
00:41:02 I like to praise my teammates.
00:41:03 I like to praise my teammates when they're playing well
00:41:05 and I feel like that's what I did my best to do.
00:41:09 When I got here, JT was the first person to text me.
00:41:12 I already know that, and both of them know
00:41:16 how I feel about them and how I feel about them as players,
00:41:18 but to compare them is something that I would never do
00:41:21 'cause they're two completely different players,
00:41:24 as well as being on the same team
00:41:25 and the things that they've done in this organization
00:41:27 and the things that they've done against me as an opponent.
00:41:32 I feel like how they play together
00:41:34 and how they work together is something that is sacred
00:41:37 and something that can't be broken.
00:41:38 So just to address the comment yesterday,
00:41:41 I do not prefer one or the other.
00:41:44 I prefer both.
00:41:46 Both of them are superstars.
00:41:48 It's being shown out here on the biggest stage in the world.
00:41:51 - He's such a pro.
00:41:53 - How great is that guy?
00:41:54 How great is he?
00:41:57 - He's just the best.
00:42:01 - But you know what?
00:42:02 When you think about all the things
00:42:03 that the Celtics have added since their last trip
00:42:07 to the finals a couple years ago,
00:42:09 having someone not only with Drew's talent and all that,
00:42:13 but just the perspective that he brings to this team,
00:42:16 that's what you needed.
00:42:17 You needed someone who could just kind of give you
00:42:20 that view of what does this all really mean
00:42:24 and not be an asshole about it.
00:42:25 - Like Kyrie was.
00:42:29 - Right, and a guy who can play,
00:42:30 a guy who can actually really play at a high level.
00:42:33 I mean, Luke is gonna be having nightmares
00:42:35 for the next 48 hours about Drew Holiday.
00:42:38 - Sherrod, he also, did we lose Sherrod?
00:42:44 I was gonna say, I think we lost Sherrod.
00:42:47 - Okay, we'll speak then.
00:42:50 - I didn't know if I'm the later he is.
00:42:52 Okay, so anyway, also he's a calming force.
00:42:55 Like he's just super calm demeanor.
00:42:58 Like when you talk to him, you get more relaxed, Drew Holiday.
00:43:02 You know, and I think that this team needed that
00:43:04 because they would get rattled often.
00:43:07 The other thing to think about too, is Sherrod back?
00:43:09 - Yes, he is.
00:43:11 - No, yeah.
00:43:12 - He's listening to you, man, finish your thought.
00:43:16 - No, no, I wanted him to be able to finish his point.
00:43:18 But the other thing, after two games,
00:43:20 you look around the Celtics and you say,
00:43:22 "Well, okay, who's the MVP of the first two games?"
00:43:26 And it's almost hard to identify
00:43:28 because everything is so spread out evenly.
00:43:32 I mean, the scoring has been great.
00:43:33 I mean, you could say Drew was tonight and KP was Thursday.
00:43:38 Really, I think if the Celtics win the championship,
00:43:41 Brad Stevens probably should get the MVP award
00:43:44 for putting this team together.
00:43:46 And yeah, imagine me saying that, I mean it.
00:43:54 - Yeah, that's my take, go ahead, John.
00:43:56 - I'm not here to speak.
00:43:59 - John's not here to save you.
00:44:01 - John's doing the Dennis Johnson thing.
00:44:03 He's not gonna shoot.
00:44:04 - Don't accuse me of talking too much
00:44:12 and then defer to me when you run out of shit to say.
00:44:15 - I ran out of shit to say the first three minutes, John.
00:44:19 - When it comes to holiday.
00:44:20 - You're not leading me, I got nothing to say.
00:44:23 - I gave you the ball, I'm sitting back.
00:44:25 It's ISO Nick offense right now, go for it.
00:44:28 - All right, throw some fire at me, come on.
00:44:31 - It's ISO ball.
00:44:32 No, you're only good when you can boom out and stuff.
00:44:34 There's nothing to boom out about right now, right?
00:44:36 - Yes, that's the problem.
00:44:37 - Wow.
00:44:38 - I can think of a couple things.
00:44:40 Why are they taking the water out of the cooler at 10 p.m.
00:44:47 when the media has to work here until 3 a.m.?
00:44:50 - Oh God, here we go.
00:44:51 - Oh boy, that is such a boomer take.
00:44:53 - First world problems, my friend.
00:44:56 - They did feed us lobsters tonight though.
00:44:59 - Lobster and crab cakes and stuffed clams.
00:45:02 - Teeny garden lobster I hear is the best around.
00:45:06 - It tasted like it came from the bottom of the Haba.
00:45:10 - They were three quarter pound lobsters.
00:45:12 The tail was like.
00:45:20 - They looked like, what are you, crawfish.
00:45:22 It looked like crawfish.
00:45:24 No, it was beautiful.
00:45:25 You'll see it on Ahmed's vlog.
00:45:27 I think they got a video of the lobster.
00:45:28 - I like prawns.
00:45:29 Give me the.
00:45:30 That's the real seafood.
00:45:33 - Yeah.
00:45:35 - I don't know guys.
00:45:38 - We do have a low key phenomenal moment in this game
00:45:43 that, didn't you just know Christian
00:45:47 was gonna hit that shot?
00:45:49 I think everybody knew.
00:45:51 - Everyone but Dallas.
00:45:52 Everyone but Dallas.
00:45:53 - I knew it.
00:45:54 I knew it in my bones.
00:45:56 Like I would have been shocked if it didn't fall.
00:45:59 That was such a backbreaker.
00:46:00 'Cause you're like, you just, the Celtics kinda,
00:46:04 they were this close to taking it
00:46:08 into the 12, 13, 15 range after three.
00:46:11 And they just choked it away with some bad possessions
00:46:15 and letting Dallas get what they wanted to get.
00:46:17 And then fouling and just a little lack of discipline
00:46:20 on D there.
00:46:21 And it's a two possession game at six points.
00:46:24 And Pritchard just comes flying around the corner,
00:46:27 hits that frigging three.
00:46:28 Here's PP in the locker room talking about that play.
00:46:33 His only three points of the day.
00:46:35 - I just gave him a little bump.
00:46:39 Got separation and he just let it fly.
00:46:40 That's really all to it.
00:46:41 - Joe made sure that,
00:46:43 he said that was the biggest play of the game.
00:46:45 He wanted that to be the first question
00:46:46 I'm pressing on him.
00:46:47 What does that mean to you?
00:46:50 - Just, you know, it shows belief.
00:46:52 He put me in that situation knowing I could hit that shot.
00:46:54 So to believe in him means a lot as a player.
00:46:57 - Good questions, Bobby.
00:47:00 - Good night.
00:47:01 - Way to go, Bobby.
00:47:02 - He's got the Pritchard sidebar going tonight.
00:47:05 - He does.
00:47:06 - That's what he does though.
00:47:07 I mean, how many times have we seen him
00:47:09 make that particular shot?
00:47:12 He's a specialist in that regard.
00:47:15 That's one of the things that he brings to the table.
00:47:17 I'm a little surprised that teams
00:47:19 don't do a better job of, I mean,
00:47:21 maybe the scouting report isn't that thorough
00:47:23 where they're looking at guys' tendencies,
00:47:25 like, you know, making shots at the end of quarters,
00:47:28 which should be something that you would be on guard for,
00:47:29 particularly the way, as John pointed out,
00:47:31 Dallas actually had a nice little kind of momentum swing
00:47:35 there at the very end.
00:47:36 Because the Celtics were up by like 12 or 13 points.
00:47:39 The next thing you know, it's a six point game.
00:47:41 Looks like it's going to be six points going into the fourth.
00:47:43 Go from six to nine was huge, huge, huge shot.
00:47:46 - The block, the triple block.
00:47:50 Everybody on the team blocked that shot, I think.
00:47:53 - Yeah, I think I got a piece of it.
00:47:55 - Yeah, you did, John.
00:47:56 You're on the box for John.
00:47:59 - That was pretty good.
00:48:01 Yeah, that was good.
00:48:04 We are going to hear from KP.
00:48:06 The general update, I don't want to keep news from you,
00:48:08 but we'll hear it from Porzingis himself,
00:48:10 because I know you'll find that reassuring,
00:48:12 is he said he's not sitting game three.
00:48:16 So again, there's a lot of confidence right now
00:48:18 that whatever happened was, you know,
00:48:21 kind of like old man stuff, you know, just like,
00:48:24 and look, man, I mean, this is what we thought.
00:48:27 This was as much my Porzingis concern as anything else.
00:48:32 He's just going to be gassed, you know?
00:48:34 Like, you know, it's going to take him
00:48:35 a really long time to get going.
00:48:37 And he tweaked a little something, but you just see him.
00:48:40 He just, you know, he confirmed it.
00:48:44 It's so funny with Joe.
00:48:46 I love how Joe tells us stuff,
00:48:48 but doesn't tell his players, you know,
00:48:51 what they're supposed to say too.
00:48:53 And he's like, he's not on a minutes restriction.
00:48:54 And then you turn around and you're like, KP,
00:48:56 and he's like, oh, I'm on a minutes restriction.
00:48:58 So he's clearly, they're managing him because-
00:49:03 - As they should.
00:49:06 - Because he can only go, you know, so hard for so long.
00:49:10 And there's a lot of work out there
00:49:11 because they're going to put him in actions.
00:49:13 And they're going to, you know, they're going to run screens
00:49:15 and they're going to try to get him in space a little bit.
00:49:17 And he's got to maintain his discipline
00:49:19 and get back and try to prevent that law,
00:49:21 but also jump out on shooters if and when he needs to.
00:49:24 He's got to get back and protect the paint.
00:49:26 He's needed on offense.
00:49:27 He's got to move there.
00:49:28 He's setting screens.
00:49:29 He's trying to get position.
00:49:30 But you can see he was definitely laboring
00:49:32 with a few different things.
00:49:33 I mean, there was one play, actually,
00:49:35 Derek White hit a hero shot three on a position
00:49:37 that looked like it was totally busted
00:49:39 because Porzingis was having a tough time backing down
00:49:41 Kyrie to get good position on him.
00:49:43 So you can see there that he's definitely like, you know,
00:49:47 it's physically, he's not all the way back there.
00:49:50 And, you know, that's fine.
00:49:55 - Well, and I think if-
00:49:56 - On this team, 20 minutes of KP is fine.
00:49:59 - Yeah.
00:50:00 - I think also it's an adjustment kind of to the mean,
00:50:02 because you know a lot,
00:50:04 when players come back from injury and a long break,
00:50:07 a lot of times, well, and certainly in game one,
00:50:10 the adrenaline pumps through you
00:50:12 and you play like you're in your prime and healthy
00:50:15 and then things kind of settle back.
00:50:17 And a lot of people in the media were worried that,
00:50:21 you know, making a big fuss that Porzingis
00:50:23 doesn't put up game one like numbers.
00:50:25 And here we saw today, he was okay.
00:50:28 He was needed, he was there,
00:50:30 but it wasn't game one like numbers
00:50:32 and they still won the game.
00:50:33 So I mean, it's just,
00:50:34 I think it's just staggering how overmatched Dallas is.
00:50:37 They just look really flustered all the time.
00:50:40 - Yeah. And the biggest problem, I think, for Dallas
00:50:44 is that there is no X's and O's recipe
00:50:49 that you can come up to change this.
00:50:50 I mean, the Celtics biggest opponent
00:50:52 in this series is the Celtics.
00:50:54 When they lose at this point,
00:50:56 it's not so much because of what Dallas is doing
00:50:58 as much as it is what they are not doing.
00:51:01 They have pretty much every position except Luca.
00:51:06 And as talented as Kyrie Irving is,
00:51:09 he's losing that matchup in the series badly.
00:51:13 Whether you say it's Derrick White,
00:51:14 whether you say it's Jalen Brown, it doesn't matter.
00:51:17 He has been the inferior player at that off guard position.
00:51:21 And after that, there's just enough,
00:51:24 the cover's bare if you're Dallas.
00:51:27 I mean, it's at the point where
00:51:30 I would be mildly surprised if they win one game at all.
00:51:35 - Yeah. - It's possible.
00:51:35 Here, let's hear from KP.
00:51:37 And I wanna get back to what you were talking about there
00:51:38 because I think it's really interesting
00:51:41 just in terms of where the Mavs are at right now
00:51:45 in terms of both their mindset
00:51:46 and their ability to be able to beat this team,
00:51:48 which again, anything can happen,
00:51:52 but you had your shooting variance game
00:51:53 and you couldn't win it here.
00:51:54 And again, Dallas didn't help itself out.
00:51:56 They only hit six threes themselves.
00:51:58 But here's KP, because I did say you'd feel better
00:52:01 if you saw him, he's smiling.
00:52:03 That's gotta make you feel happy.
00:52:04 Here's KP, he's talking about his injury.
00:52:06 He's stressed here.
00:52:07 He's stressing himself.
00:52:08 - What were you feeling?
00:52:10 - I don't know.
00:52:11 I don't think so.
00:52:12 I mean, I feel good.
00:52:14 I feel good.
00:52:14 I would say something happened a little bit,
00:52:16 but have a couple of days again
00:52:19 and believe me, we'll do everything we can
00:52:23 to be back and moving well.
00:52:26 - How difficult was it to keep playing through it?
00:52:28 - Not difficult at all.
00:52:31 I'll die out there, you know, if we need.
00:52:35 So I just kept going, but I was a little bit limited.
00:52:38 So smart thing was to get Al back in there
00:52:41 and close out the game.
00:52:43 - NBA.
00:52:44 - Oh, sorry.
00:52:48 Want to put it back.
00:52:49 Send that man a hard hat, Jimmy.
00:52:52 - I love that guy.
00:52:53 He has a really hard hat.
00:52:54 - Can I get Porzingis' address to send him a hard hat?
00:52:57 Free of charge.
00:52:58 - Richie will drop it off, John.
00:53:00 - I'll tell you what, he's 300 lives.
00:53:04 - If he dies, he dies.
00:53:05 - If he's got the hard hat on, he won't die.
00:53:07 This thing is made of quality material.
00:53:10 Nothing will hurt.
00:53:12 - Everyone had the same quote
00:53:15 with the accent and everything.
00:53:17 - If he dies.
00:53:19 - If he dies, he dies.
00:53:20 - He dies.
00:53:23 - That's the mentality you want.
00:53:24 Kyrie Irving would give you some BS 20 minute answer.
00:53:28 - Make a T-shirt right now, win or die.
00:53:31 Make the T-shirt right now and get it on the store.
00:53:35 I'll die out there.
00:53:36 - You want Porzingis' face, I'll die out there.
00:53:38 - That is a good one.
00:53:39 Text Joe, Jimmy.
00:53:41 - I'm gonna text Joe right now.
00:53:42 Get the T-shirt.
00:53:43 - That's a good money maker.
00:53:44 - That is a good one.
00:53:45 - That is so good.
00:53:46 - Limited supply, 25 T-shirts.
00:53:48 - Just his face too, you know.
00:53:52 - Win or die, I love it.
00:53:54 That's the selfish motto here.
00:53:56 Forget about different here.
00:53:58 I like win or die as the team motto.
00:54:00 Win or die trying, so good.
00:54:04 - Life has shifted.
00:54:06 - Love it.
00:54:07 - How great, I mean, I know Jimmy hates
00:54:09 when we talk about the crowd,
00:54:10 but how great was when they put the old school
00:54:13 Paul Pierce montage on the Jumbotron?
00:54:15 - We didn't, I didn't see it, so I don't know.
00:54:18 - I know you didn't.
00:54:19 - It was good.
00:54:19 - Oh, Jimmy, let me tell you about it.
00:54:22 - Jimmy, it was so good.
00:54:24 - Oh my God.
00:54:24 - I was filming, and I know Amit films
00:54:26 some of the key things on the Jumbotron.
00:54:28 I'll have to check CLN.
00:54:29 - Amit's over there laughing.
00:54:30 He can't even hear what you guys are saying,
00:54:32 and he's laughing at me.
00:54:33 - Yeah, unbelievable.
00:54:34 - Yeah, hey, everyone watching at home
00:54:37 who wasn't at the game,
00:54:38 how about that Jumbotron moment tonight?
00:54:41 - Hey, the people that are watching at home
00:54:42 wanna know what it's like to be inside this jungle.
00:54:45 I've been telling you that for how many years, Jimmy?
00:54:47 Every game I wanted to do a segment on the crowd,
00:54:49 you tell me no.
00:54:51 - Yeah, for good reason.
00:54:53 The one thing I'll say- - For good reason.
00:54:57 - How about this?
00:54:58 Was the crowd louder tonight,
00:54:59 or was it game one they were louder?
00:55:01 Okay.
00:55:02 I did see that they put the Kyrie quote up on the Jumbotron.
00:55:05 - Which is a smart play.
00:55:07 - Yep, sure I'd call that.
00:55:08 - They put the Kyrie quote up.
00:55:09 - Yeah, sure I did.
00:55:11 - The one thing I would have done a little bit differently
00:55:13 is I would have put it up at the very end of the game too.
00:55:17 Just to troll them.
00:55:19 - Just to troll them.
00:55:21 - Yeah, just to troll them.
00:55:22 - He was out, I don't know,
00:55:23 did you guys see Gethin's tweet?
00:55:26 Gethin's cool, but it went crazy.
00:55:29 He got a video of Kyrie warming up
00:55:30 and above him on the Jumbotron,
00:55:32 it had a picture of him, 12 points,
00:55:36 six of 20 from the field, from my game one stats.
00:55:40 It was like trolling him, and it went crazy.
00:55:43 - That's awesome.
00:55:46 - Good, yeah.
00:55:47 - Facts, my dog.
00:55:48 - Good head.
00:55:49 - That was a facts, my dog.
00:55:51 - That was a facts, my dog.
00:55:53 - Bobby and Josue should be here momentarily
00:55:55 and you guys can dismiss me.
00:55:57 - I can't wait, no Nick, you're staying.
00:55:59 - Did you just say that out loud,
00:56:00 or were you thinking it?
00:56:02 - What?
00:56:04 - Were you thinking that, or did you say it out loud?
00:56:06 - What did I say, I said you're staying.
00:56:09 - Oh, you did?
00:56:09 - Yeah, you're staying.
00:56:10 - Yes.
00:56:11 - Shit, I already have my Uber hailed
00:56:15 and a joint ready to spark up on the way home.
00:56:18 What do you mean?
00:56:19 (laughing)
00:56:20 That was for Bill Walton.
00:56:21 - Good catch, good catch, good catch.
00:56:26 Yeah, good catch.
00:56:30 - Oh my God.
00:56:31 (laughing)
00:56:32 - Facts, my dog, where is John Zanis?
00:56:35 - Is it amazing, by the way, going back
00:56:37 to what we were talking about in terms of Holiday,
00:56:40 do you remember conversations at the beginning
00:56:43 of the playoffs and what the narrative
00:56:45 around Holiday was, man, I really don't like that.
00:56:49 That contract is such a mistake.
00:56:53 - Jimmy was key on that one.
00:56:55 - Why did they give him all that money in all those years?
00:56:58 - Do you remember people saying that?
00:57:00 - They do, honestly, they did it for these years.
00:57:05 - There's been nobody I've probably--
00:57:06 - This year, next year.
00:57:08 - There's nobody I've been a bigger apologist for all year
00:57:12 than Holiday and oh my God, tonight.
00:57:15 - You picked a good one tonight.
00:57:17 - You're just seeing all of it, you know,
00:57:19 like the full, he's just, I just trust him, you know,
00:57:23 like, and again, I hate making it about the Marcus thing
00:57:27 because Marcus left everything he had here.
00:57:28 He was a great Celtic and will always be a great Celtic.
00:57:31 I just find it ironic that the saying around Marcus
00:57:36 was love and trust and the only thing I didn't do
00:57:39 was trust him, you know.
00:57:41 (laughing)
00:57:43 You know, I thought it was--
00:57:46 - It's like, this is what it's like to trust somebody.
00:57:49 - This is what it's like to trust somebody.
00:57:51 I trust him and White, like implicitly,
00:57:54 like I trust those guys to do that,
00:57:57 to just be, just rocks all the time.
00:58:00 And even when they have bad games, it's like, well,
00:58:02 they went about it the right way for the most part.
00:58:06 And it's just unbelievable.
00:58:08 It's unbelievable.
00:58:10 I know everyone gets mad.
00:58:12 I don't mean to, but look guys,
00:58:14 that's, this is what improvements are to your team.
00:58:17 Last year's team and the team before that
00:58:20 needed improvement.
00:58:22 You improved by replacing a player with another player.
00:58:25 And sadly that ended up being Marcus for holiday.
00:58:28 And then you replaced Rob for poor Zingas.
00:58:31 And we all loved Rob as well.
00:58:33 And we're not sitting here saying anything,
00:58:34 but you improved, you improved, you know,
00:58:37 like, I mean, it's incredible, you know.
00:58:40 - You do wonder if Marcus is sitting,
00:58:42 you know, he's watching this crap.
00:58:43 I do feel bad for him.
00:58:44 - It's got a kill for him.
00:58:46 And I always thought, you know,
00:58:47 I don't want to make it a referendum entirely about that,
00:58:49 but I just have so much faith in holiday out there.
00:58:51 You just see him just tonight was one of those games.
00:58:54 You just go back and just watch him all the entire game.
00:58:59 He was just everywhere.
00:59:03 I didn't change my game.
00:59:04 - And understated where Mark.
00:59:06 - I hate them for both.
00:59:08 - Where Mark is kind of, and I don't want to compare.
00:59:11 (laughing)
00:59:13 What did John say?
00:59:13 He hates them both.
00:59:14 - Nothing, nothing.
00:59:16 - I'm on a little delay here if you haven't noticed.
00:59:20 - I'm just messing around.
00:59:23 - Mark is like overstated on everything.
00:59:26 Like you knew when he was hot,
00:59:28 you knew when he was struggling,
00:59:29 you knew when he was frustrated, you know.
00:59:32 Holiday is just so even, so even.
00:59:36 - He came as advertised, right?
00:59:38 - He really did.
00:59:39 - He lived up to all these expectations
00:59:41 of a guy that's a leader on the court,
00:59:43 steady, you know, heady player, tenacious.
00:59:48 Obviously we knew all about his capabilities defensively.
00:59:52 Pretty much universally regarded as the best
00:59:56 on-ball defender in the NBA over the last
00:59:58 however many years you want to go back.
00:59:59 And that's by the players, which is really what matters.
01:00:02 Media can vote all they want,
01:00:03 but when you talk to the players,
01:00:05 they've pretty much been saying for the,
01:00:08 I don't know, what, five plus years now
01:00:10 that Holiday's the guy.
01:00:12 And so you see that, especially now
01:00:15 with the games mattering more than they ever have,
01:00:19 just how valuable he is to this team.
01:00:21 And you know what?
01:00:22 The way he's playing in this playoff series,
01:00:24 or these playoffs, but specifically tonight
01:00:26 in this series moving forward, they win a title,
01:00:29 you'll pay him whatever the hell he asks
01:00:32 for the remainder of his contract
01:00:34 if he's going to be a focal point
01:00:36 in them winning a title this year.
01:00:38 And he is, and he has been.
01:00:40 That's not going to change next year either.
01:00:41 It's not, that's not some,
01:00:42 his skills don't just disappear.
01:00:45 You know, what he's good at.
01:00:46 You know, the points tonight are bonus, the 26 points.
01:00:49 You don't expect that or you don't require that of him.
01:00:51 But on a night where Tatum isn't really finding it
01:00:54 from the, you know, outside,
01:00:56 he's looking for guys a little bit more.
01:00:57 Holiday's taking advantage of it.
01:00:59 Holiday knows where to go, where to be.
01:01:01 He knows how to get open.
01:01:02 He knows how to make easy baskets.
01:01:04 Those 11 for 14 field goals.
01:01:05 How many of those are right under the hoop?
01:01:07 I mean, he's just right there
01:01:08 where he needs to be for the easy two.
01:01:10 So that's high efficiency, obviously,
01:01:12 but it's just knowing what the game calls for.
01:01:16 You know, there's going to be a game
01:01:17 where he's not going to be needed for 26.
01:01:18 He might only be needed to score 10,
01:01:21 but he's going to give you, you know, 10 boards
01:01:23 and eight, you know what I mean?
01:01:24 So it's whatever the game needs.
01:01:26 And tonight it needed more offense from him
01:01:28 and he was able to provide it.
01:01:29 - Thank you for this super chat real quick.
01:01:31 I just want to say,
01:01:32 folks, Factory, we do appreciate it.
01:01:34 Actually, I disagree.
01:01:35 I think Smart was going in a separate trade
01:01:37 there that was already ready to go.
01:01:40 There's no way they pulled that one on the fly.
01:01:42 I think he was on his way out.
01:01:43 They were going to move things around
01:01:45 and they had another deal ready to go
01:01:47 and they slid Smart into this one instead.
01:01:51 But thank you very much for the super chat here.
01:01:53 And I want to hear what you had to say.
01:01:55 We just wanted to acknowledge that we do appreciate that.
01:01:57 - No, all I was going to say was that, you know,
01:01:59 one of the criticisms that this organization has had,
01:02:02 like the past few years prior to this year,
01:02:05 was that Witt Grosbeck wouldn't spend money,
01:02:07 that he wouldn't open up the wallet.
01:02:09 And that's exactly, I mean,
01:02:12 they are going to be paying for this team
01:02:14 for a really long time, but it was worth it
01:02:16 because they built a team that you knew on paper
01:02:19 could compete for a championship.
01:02:21 And some of those other deals they could have made
01:02:23 in the previous two, three, four years,
01:02:25 they would have been better,
01:02:26 but they certainly would not have been as built
01:02:29 to win a championship as this team is now.
01:02:31 And that's, to me, that's one of the wild cards
01:02:34 that goes into putting together a team
01:02:37 that can tend for a title,
01:02:38 is do you have ownership that's willing to pay the price
01:02:41 of what that championship looks like?
01:02:43 And the Celtics, you know,
01:02:44 when you look at Drew's extension,
01:02:45 you look at poor Zing as his extension,
01:02:47 you look at, you know,
01:02:48 they're going to have to open up the wallet
01:02:49 and pay, you know, Derek White very soon.
01:02:51 - Derek White.
01:02:52 - Yeah.
01:02:53 You know, Tatum's going to get his Supermax extension,
01:02:55 you know, that'll kick in, you know, 25, 26,
01:02:58 and he'll sign this summer.
01:03:00 They have shown a commitment as long as they're committing
01:03:03 to a championship caliber roster.
01:03:06 And they've been pretty consistent with that
01:03:08 since they've been here.
01:03:10 - As Jimmy called Drew Holliday, steady and heady.
01:03:14 You can put that one on a t-shirt as well.
01:03:16 Another person, steady and heady.
01:03:18 Another one who absolutely qualifies as steady and heady
01:03:22 was Derek White, who was part of one of the key players
01:03:27 of the game on a chase down block there
01:03:29 after, you know, the Mavs off of a Tatum miss,
01:03:33 went, you know, took off in transition.
01:03:35 Washington was on his way in.
01:03:37 And as they've been doing all game long,
01:03:39 White and Holliday had a great chase down situation
01:03:42 last game, I remember.
01:03:43 And, you know, both White and Brown raced back,
01:03:48 got involved in the play.
01:03:50 Some people are saying maybe a teeny bit of a foul.
01:03:52 I don't know, but I mean, the hustle was there.
01:03:55 Both guys got a hand on a ball.
01:03:57 Critical, critical play at a critical moment in the game
01:04:00 where the Celtics were kind of, sort of coming apart
01:04:03 a little bit and letting Dallas hang around late in the game
01:04:06 and that pretty much sealed things.
01:04:07 Here's Derek White talking about that play.
01:04:10 - You're an all shucks kind of guy,
01:04:12 but when someone is running the break and you're,
01:04:16 but you do chase downs, do you say to yourself,
01:04:18 I've got this dude, like, what do you think
01:04:21 when you're running full speed?
01:04:23 'Cause this, you've had too many not to think,
01:04:25 like, I can't believe this dude's gonna try this on me.
01:04:27 Like, there's gotta be an arrogance there
01:04:30 to a certain extent.
01:04:31 - Yeah, that's why I got dunked on earlier.
01:04:33 (laughing)
01:04:35 But, it's part of the game.
01:04:37 - Funny guy.
01:04:38 - Just that, not afraid to get dunked on.
01:04:41 It allows me to get something
01:04:43 that maybe some people wouldn't have gotten.
01:04:44 So, I'm just trying to make a play.
01:04:47 Just believing in my abilities and what I can do.
01:04:50 - Dave, last question.
01:04:51 - I believe in his abilities too, man.
01:04:55 This guy's incredible.
01:04:57 How easy is it to like these guys,
01:04:59 between him and between Holiday?
01:05:01 Both in terms of how they play, how they carry themselves.
01:05:04 The post game, that Holiday soundbite
01:05:06 just addressing the Tatum situation,
01:05:08 which he totally didn't have to.
01:05:10 But, and we talked about it last week.
01:05:12 - You're in control.
01:05:13 - I said what Holiday said.
01:05:14 No, he didn't mean that.
01:05:15 And people ran with it and I thought it was stupid
01:05:17 that people ran with it.
01:05:18 But he didn't get mad.
01:05:20 He didn't turn it into like,
01:05:21 you guys trying to make something.
01:05:22 He's like, media, blah, the media, blah.
01:05:25 - So, he didn't go full scowl on the media
01:05:28 after the NBA finals.
01:05:30 - Media, you're gonna make Jaylen leave.
01:05:34 - But White's another guy.
01:05:35 He is an off-sharks, humble guy.
01:05:37 He doesn't talk about himself.
01:05:38 He has monster games.
01:05:39 He's had, he's carried the team at different times
01:05:42 during the season.
01:05:43 He does not talk about himself at all.
01:05:46 He is, he's not fake humble.
01:05:48 He is legit a humble dude.
01:05:50 He's a classic.
01:05:51 Send that guy a hard hat too, Jimmy.
01:05:52 He's a classic lunch pay.
01:05:54 - Just send the whole team hard hats.
01:05:56 - If they win this thing, you trust me,
01:05:59 they're getting a hair cut.
01:06:00 - I don't think they'll give us our addresses,
01:06:01 but if they do.
01:06:02 - I'll send it to the garden.
01:06:04 I'm sure Olive will disperse them for me.
01:06:07 - Hair of the garden report.
01:06:09 (laughing)
01:06:10 - Brian Olive will disperse them.
01:06:12 - Yeah, he'll pass them off for me,
01:06:14 courtesy of the CLNS, of course.
01:06:17 - We'll come in next season,
01:06:18 I'll be wearing hard hats.
01:06:19 - They are flying off the shelves.
01:06:21 I just took a peek.
01:06:22 And if you're thinking about getting one,
01:06:24 really think about it right now.
01:06:26 - I gotta tell, I gotta say,
01:06:27 Jimmy's not exaggerating this.
01:06:28 They really are.
01:06:29 Like I am shocked.
01:06:31 - I'm not.
01:06:32 - We don't actually have shelves.
01:06:35 We don't have shelves.
01:06:37 - Well, they do, they're just Rhode Island.
01:06:38 - We have virtual shelves.
01:06:39 - Yeah, exactly.
01:06:40 - Virtual shelves.
01:06:41 (laughing)
01:06:42 - They're not my shelves,
01:06:43 but somebody's shelves they're flying off of right now.
01:06:46 - I don't wanna get back on merch.
01:06:49 I don't wanna piss Xanis off.
01:06:50 - I don't either, but let me say something.
01:06:52 - It's not pissing me off.
01:06:53 It's the four and a half minutes
01:06:55 it takes to do one merch read.
01:06:57 - 'Cause we've got 12 things to sell in the merch store.
01:07:01 It's not one thing.
01:07:02 We've got a bunch of good stuff.
01:07:04 Anyways.
01:07:05 - How about the book bag, Jimmy?
01:07:06 What about the book bag?
01:07:07 - Yeah, like show him the book bag at some point.
01:07:10 But what I wanted to say to follow up on you guys
01:07:13 is when you look at these post-game or pre-game--
01:07:16 - You guys wanna say high five Bobby Banning
01:07:18 on the way by?
01:07:19 - Yes.
01:07:20 - Oh, we missed.
01:07:21 - This player is the whitest high five I've ever seen.
01:07:24 - I was trying to keep an eye on the thing.
01:07:26 (laughing)
01:07:27 There he is.
01:07:28 That's our guy.
01:07:28 - Look at Bobby.
01:07:29 (laughing)
01:07:32 - If I could just say one point
01:07:33 and then I'll let you guys get back to it.
01:07:35 - Make your point, Jimmy.
01:07:36 Let's go.
01:07:37 - It feels that these guys are not overwhelmed by the moment
01:07:41 just based on,
01:07:43 not just based on what their play looks like on the court,
01:07:45 but the way that they talk after the games,
01:07:48 whether it's Porzingis, White, Holiday tonight,
01:07:51 they don't seem overwhelmed by the moment.
01:07:53 And some teams can get that way in the NBA finals
01:07:56 when the lights are a lot brighter.
01:07:57 - The Mavs seem that way.
01:08:00 - The Mavs just aren't talented enough.
01:08:02 - The discount code is now two more, not three more, guys.
01:08:06 - Yeah, guys, come on.
01:08:07 - Right?
01:08:08 - It was three more last game.
01:08:10 - Yeah, it's two more.
01:08:11 - Think about it, all right?
01:08:12 It took me a while to figure it out,
01:08:14 but it's two more 'cause there's two more wins
01:08:16 for the Celtics to go.
01:08:17 - Bobby Manning right now is walking through the tunnel
01:08:20 like Jason Tatum does.
01:08:21 He's got a strut on him.
01:08:23 - Does he have a horrific looking suit?
01:08:25 - He's headed for the bike.
01:08:27 - He has on a great suit.
01:08:29 We're gonna pause here to get Bobby on, so be right back.
01:08:32 - All right, thanks.
01:08:34 - What?
01:08:35 - He said he's leaving.
01:08:36 - We're pausing, we don't have to pause.
01:08:38 - We're gonna pause for patient identification.
01:08:40 - Just leave.
01:08:41 We don't have to deal with that.
01:08:44 - He announced his departure.
01:08:46 - No, don't go.
01:08:47 - No, Nick, stay.
01:08:49 - Can we say that-
01:08:50 - Don't go.
01:08:51 - Can we say the thing we've been meaning to say
01:08:54 like the whole time?
01:08:55 We're kind of saying it as we're talking
01:08:58 about the Mavericks in general.
01:09:00 Like, it's just-
01:09:05 - How did they beat three games before they got here?
01:09:07 - A clear tier below, a clear tier.
01:09:12 They have to play out of their minds to win these games.
01:09:16 Out of their mind, shots have to fall,
01:09:18 their stars have to be insane.
01:09:20 Celtics have to not hit shots or just,
01:09:23 they have to play out of their minds.
01:09:25 - Too many things have to fall in place.
01:09:27 - Got it, I never, this wasn't a "Sulk it's real"
01:09:31 respect thing, I think it, I mean, meaning like,
01:09:34 I'm not taking that stance.
01:09:36 I didn't get the love on the other side.
01:09:38 You wanted to talk about Denver?
01:09:40 Yeah, Denver's one of those teams where you're like,
01:09:42 they do everything right.
01:09:43 You're gonna have to be near perfect to beat them.
01:09:45 And they're not, you know, different type of team.
01:09:49 I didn't, any of the other three non-Denver teams
01:09:52 that were possible opponents, I didn't get.
01:09:54 And this one I got the least.
01:09:56 I really, I really did.
01:09:57 I just never got it.
01:10:00 - This seemed like the worst team you ever had.
01:10:04 - I thought by a bit, so I don't know, I don't know.
01:10:08 - Well, I mean, one of the things that I think
01:10:10 Dallas benefited from was that they were able
01:10:13 to knock off some teams that, if we're being honest
01:10:16 and candid, extremely talented, but very young.
01:10:20 And the playoffs is just, it's just not a place
01:10:23 for the kiddies to run free and have lots of success.
01:10:27 And Minnesota is gonna be a really good team
01:10:29 for the next couple of years, but they weren't ready.
01:10:32 They weren't ready to take that next step.
01:10:34 And Dallas was, Dallas simply kept games close.
01:10:39 They, I didn't think Minnesota did a good enough job
01:10:42 of making Luka work the way the Celtics are.
01:10:45 And he had plenty of ammo down the stretch
01:10:49 to put those, put that team away.
01:10:51 Luka is gassed by the 10th and fourth quarter
01:10:54 against Toronto.
01:10:55 And the guy, and the guy that is attacking him
01:10:58 more than anyone else, Drew Holiday,
01:11:00 is probably the strongest player pound for pound
01:11:02 in the Celtics roster.
01:11:03 So he's, Luka's not used to having someone
01:11:06 as physically giving it to him the way Drew Holiday does.
01:11:11 - By the way, that injury stuff,
01:11:14 I didn't think was more gamesmanship from Tatum.
01:11:17 I thought that was Luka trying to, you know,
01:11:20 pad, you know, a few excuses here on the,
01:11:24 well, you know, we weren't really right sort of thing.
01:11:27 I didn't think that was to mess with the Celtics' heads.
01:11:28 Give me a break with that.
01:11:30 Anyway, go ahead, Sherrod.
01:11:31 That, that just, I thought that was nonsense.
01:11:34 - No, his coach is Jason Kidd,
01:11:35 and we all know that Jason is Mr. Jedi Mind Tricks all day.
01:11:39 - I think he thinks he is.
01:11:41 - He's the opposite of Jedi.
01:11:42 He's a moron.
01:11:43 That's a topic for another day, I guess.
01:11:49 - Damn, damn, I don't know if I call him a moron.
01:11:52 He's a Hall of Famer, good player.
01:11:54 - Good at basketball, but that doesn't make him smart.
01:11:57 - No, no.
01:11:59 - I wish.
01:12:00 - Play well with your friend, don't you?
01:12:03 - He can beat me in basketball, I'll give him that.
01:12:06 But mind tricks, nah, you're not gonna beat me
01:12:08 in mind tricks, no chance.
01:12:10 - Yeah.
01:12:11 - He's not gonna beat the Celtics in mind tricks either.
01:12:12 He tried it, he tried it and he failed.
01:12:15 You know, he's spending more time talking
01:12:16 about the Celtics and trying to get in their head.
01:12:18 He should spend more time trying to figure out
01:12:21 what his own guys can do and who is, you know,
01:12:23 who is, what his best players can do to try to compete
01:12:26 in this series, make it interesting.
01:12:28 This is gonna be a sweep if he can't figure out
01:12:30 what the hell is going on over there.
01:12:32 - I think the problem, Jimmy,
01:12:33 is that he knows what his guys can do.
01:12:35 And that's why you gotta go to mind tricks,
01:12:37 because you know that talent-wise,
01:12:39 you don't match up at all with the Celtics team.
01:12:43 Like I said, Luca is the one player who has an advantage,
01:12:46 but even that advantage isn't all that big an advantage.
01:12:50 'Cause I mean, Drew Holiday more than gave him
01:12:52 the business in this game.
01:12:54 I mean, he had 32, Luke and Drew had, what, 26?
01:12:59 And lever rebounds, so.
01:13:01 - You can't take the Mavericks seriously,
01:13:04 said the guy in the hard hat.
01:13:05 (laughing)
01:13:07 - Sorry for protection, everybody.
01:13:09 Hey, so I come to work, I put on the hard hat,
01:13:12 I strap on the steel-toed boots, bunch of pails.
01:13:15 You guys know the deal.
01:13:16 Come over here.
01:13:17 You guys know the deal.
01:13:18 Hard hat type of performance right here
01:13:22 from the Celtics tonight, from Drew Holiday.
01:13:24 I wanna give him the honorary hard hat tonight,
01:13:25 Drew Holiday.
01:13:27 I'm gonna have to give Bobby, I'm gonna have to-
01:13:28 - You've pinched it from the brownie, yeah.
01:13:30 - I'm gonna have to give Bobby like a bunch of hard hats
01:13:32 to hand out when he, you know, maybe at,
01:13:35 either at game five or if it's a farewell, you know,
01:13:38 media thing, but I'm gonna have to do that.
01:13:43 - Guys, I do think you deserve this.
01:13:46 I do.
01:13:47 - I think you deserve it too.
01:13:49 We deserve it.
01:13:50 - Where's Bobby?
01:13:53 - I see Joe Swain and Bobby like-
01:13:57 - I mean, really taking their time.
01:13:59 - Really.
01:14:00 - To get on for the last seven minutes of the show.
01:14:03 - Yeah.
01:14:04 - Classic.
01:14:06 Who are they wearing tonight?
01:14:09 They dressed to impress tonight, Gerard?
01:14:11 Or John, you guys see that?
01:14:13 - Joe Swain was next to me.
01:14:14 I don't remember what he had on.
01:14:15 - Oh, that's not a good sign.
01:14:18 - I don't remember.
01:14:19 - What else?
01:14:22 - I don't think it was Armani or Gucci.
01:14:24 - Did Kyrie talk?
01:14:27 Did Luca, do we have any clips for those guys?
01:14:29 I would love to hear Kyrie's.
01:14:31 - Our producer behind the scenes, Jackson Tolliver,
01:14:33 if you've got any sound from those guys,
01:14:35 I am curious about Kyrie's journey and about Luca's
01:14:39 thoracic, you know.
01:14:42 - Contusion.
01:14:45 - I wanna hear how Kyrie spins this one.
01:14:47 That's beautiful.
01:14:50 - I do, I am interested in that as well.
01:14:52 Very interested to see what happens.
01:14:55 Letting you guys know, the CLNS crew
01:14:56 is going to be headed to Dallas as well.
01:14:59 We're taking, it's gonna be, I mean, Jimmy,
01:15:02 earmuffs, Jimmy, it's gonna be.
01:15:05 - I don't wanna hear this.
01:15:09 - Sherrod, Joe Swain, Manning, Amit,
01:15:14 Zanis, Jelso, booming out in Dallas.
01:15:19 He's going.
01:15:20 - I can still hear it a little bit in my ears.
01:15:21 I just thought I heard Jelso.
01:15:22 I didn't just hear Jelso, did I?
01:15:24 - Did you just mouth Jelso?
01:15:26 - There's no way you just said Jelso.
01:15:28 - I'll tell you this right now, Nick is tired.
01:15:31 Nick is legit tired.
01:15:33 I think he's regretting the Dallas thing right now.
01:15:36 - Do you think I can fudge the name and the picture?
01:15:38 Maybe?
01:15:40 Get a little trip out there.
01:15:42 - Hey, we love you guys too.
01:15:44 - Yeah, I'm cool with that.
01:15:44 - If you do, Jimmy, make sure you record it.
01:15:47 I wanna see what happens when TSA catches you.
01:15:50 - So we got Wednesday.
01:15:51 Wednesday's game three, huh?
01:15:54 - Yeah.
01:15:54 - No, I won't fudge my plane ticket shot.
01:15:56 I'm gonna fudge the media.
01:15:58 - Ah.
01:15:59 - Yeah.
01:16:01 I ain't gonna mess with the TSA people.
01:16:04 - Good call.
01:16:05 Good call.
01:16:06 - Yo, somebody just said I have ears.
01:16:08 Just regular looking ears.
01:16:10 - I don't know what's going on with those guys.
01:16:12 I wonder if they got boobies.
01:16:13 - Just regular ears.
01:16:14 Don't you wanna start something with my ears?
01:16:16 - Hold on, I'm gonna check if those guys got moved.
01:16:21 - Oh boy, here we go.
01:16:23 Look at this.
01:16:24 - Deep tarmac.
01:16:25 Disrespect.
01:16:27 Unbelievable.
01:16:28 You know what?
01:16:31 It is what it is.
01:16:32 Oh, that's a mean one.
01:16:34 What else about this game, guys?
01:16:39 What else stood out?
01:16:40 Anything?
01:16:41 I feel like-
01:16:42 - Look, we can have-
01:16:43 - I wish this game had more going on.
01:16:44 - Where did you guys end on the Tatum conversation?
01:16:48 - I haven't really given a point yet.
01:16:49 So let me-
01:16:51 - Let's hear your takes on it.
01:16:52 Here's what's gonna happen, right?
01:16:54 'Cause you had the entire weekend
01:16:56 where the talk shows were off mainly
01:16:59 and Kid drops those comments.
01:17:00 And then you get into a game here
01:17:04 where the box score and the easy low-hanging fruit
01:17:07 is gonna be like, "Your superstar goes six for 22?
01:17:12 Are you kidding?"
01:17:14 And you're gonna get a lot of that.
01:17:16 And again, he's rightfully gonna get dragged
01:17:18 for not shooting better.
01:17:20 And this is gonna be a narrative
01:17:23 and people are gonna hate it.
01:17:24 They're not gonna wanna listen to it,
01:17:25 but it's gonna go there.
01:17:27 Whether you want it or not.
01:17:30 It's like, "Is Tatum in his own head?
01:17:32 What's going on there?
01:17:33 How can you shoot this poorly?
01:17:34 What's wrong with the guy?"
01:17:36 And it's going to diminish in some people's eyes
01:17:38 the kind of, "Well, I don't think they're great.
01:17:41 They don't have any stars."
01:17:42 What's so funny is how the Celtics
01:17:44 went and became the 2004 Detroit Pistons
01:17:46 when they have a guy who's three years running,
01:17:49 first team All-NBA,
01:17:50 and another guy who was second team All-NBA last year.
01:17:53 Two old defensive players.
01:17:54 - Oh, and a guy with the biggest contract
01:17:57 in NFL NBA history.
01:17:59 - Yeah, former All-Stars.
01:18:01 I mean, the current All-Stars literally,
01:18:04 and somehow it's gonna be talked as like
01:18:06 this gritty, scrappy guys who are,
01:18:09 "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts,"
01:18:11 sort of thing, which is freaking hilarious.
01:18:13 - They got a bunch of love.
01:18:14 - Literally, they're stars across the board.
01:18:17 They might not be top four, top five stars,
01:18:21 but they're really a lot.
01:18:23 I mean, they probably have five of the best 30 players
01:18:26 in the NBA.
01:18:27 It's insane.
01:18:28 This is not a gritty, scrappy group.
01:18:31 But the Tatum argument's gonna get out of hand here
01:18:33 if he doesn't start, if he doesn't have a Tatum game.
01:18:36 We're gonna bring in Bobby and Josue here, but Jimmy-
01:18:38 - You didn't get my freaking point in.
01:18:40 - Jimmy, give me your take.
01:18:42 - Well, no one wants to hear me now 'cause they're here.
01:18:44 - All right, I'm getting rid of 'em.
01:18:46 Go ahead.
01:18:47 - No, I'm just joking.
01:18:47 You can have 'em back.
01:18:48 You can have 'em back.
01:18:49 - No, no, no, no, you go first.
01:18:50 - No, no, no, you can have 'em back,
01:18:51 but I'll still say my point.
01:18:52 So basically, you did say some of the things
01:18:53 I was gonna say is you have to compartmentalize
01:18:55 his performance.
01:18:56 So clearly there's something off with the shot.
01:18:59 He's in his own head.
01:19:00 He passed up a lot of shots that normally
01:19:02 he would have no problem taking because of how off he was.
01:19:06 So on one hand, it's good that he made,
01:19:08 I guess it's glass half full or half empty.
01:19:10 Is it a good thing that he passed up the shots
01:19:12 to make the pass and that's why he had some more assists?
01:19:15 Or do you want him to try to shoot out of it
01:19:16 and just hope that he kind of gets out
01:19:19 of that shooting slump?
01:19:20 Now, it sucks that he's in it because we know
01:19:22 that he's what he's capable of offensively.
01:19:25 This is beyond, I think, the struggles
01:19:28 that we thought he'd end up with.
01:19:29 So I do think some of it's mental.
01:19:32 He hasn't really been a player that's going
01:19:34 to take over games offensively and do that whole thing
01:19:37 'cause he hasn't, and especially hasn't really needed to.
01:19:38 So that's the big difference right now
01:19:40 is that he doesn't need to.
01:19:41 So he's less likely to force things.
01:19:44 The shooting is a red glaring issue though.
01:19:48 And so if people do want to criticize him for that,
01:19:50 they have every right to, but the one thing you can say
01:19:53 is that he didn't just go six for 22
01:19:57 and not try to make his teammates better,
01:19:59 not try to rip down boards.
01:20:01 He had a couple of big boards in that second half.
01:20:03 - Oh, huge one late.
01:20:05 - Huge one late there, right over.
01:20:07 Yeah, so he wasn't sulking.
01:20:09 He wasn't like, "Woe is me."
01:20:11 All those things are true.
01:20:13 - And 12 assists is nothing to sniff at
01:20:15 because he's a guy that-
01:20:18 - Bobby and Joe's probably the rally around him
01:20:21 in the locker room here,
01:20:22 'cause typically when he has these games,
01:20:24 people feel the need to go over the top
01:20:25 about how important, how valuable he was.
01:20:28 I think the consensus on the garden report here
01:20:30 among all of us so far is he actually did have
01:20:32 a very good game.
01:20:33 You can't run away from how bad the shooting is
01:20:36 and some of the turnovers and decision-making
01:20:40 when he's trying to get to a shot.
01:20:41 His relentless driving all game long
01:20:45 is one of the things that really drove the offense tonight.
01:20:48 I mean, the thing that drove the offense, I think.
01:20:50 - Right, no question.
01:20:52 I thought the way he finished the first half,
01:20:54 getting to the free throw line for the first time,
01:20:56 and I'm like, "Man, he's gotta keep that going."
01:20:57 And that's exactly what he did coming out of halftime.
01:20:59 And then as they continued to collapse,
01:21:01 the way the rest of the Celtics players just spread out,
01:21:04 whether it was D. White, Drew Holiday,
01:21:06 who was just scoring all around the paint
01:21:08 with some fancy layups up and under,
01:21:09 like it was really impressive in the sense
01:21:11 of how he was getting his buckets.
01:21:12 But then he started, he extended his shot
01:21:13 out to the three-point arc,
01:21:14 and that really opened things up for him
01:21:16 and everybody else, including Jason Taylor.
01:21:19 - Yeah, and definitely, like you said, John,
01:21:21 the defense there from teammates.
01:21:24 I think everybody loves what he's doing.
01:21:25 I think they think he's doing the necessary things.
01:21:28 And Chris Stapps in particular said
01:21:30 it's tough driving every time like that.
01:21:31 - It's guys and court.
01:21:32 - And that is the one thing you like about this game
01:21:34 is this was a game where Dallas took you
01:21:38 off the three-point line in a pretty aggressive way.
01:21:41 So to start 21 to 33 from inside the arc,
01:21:44 to dominate in the paint like they did overall,
01:21:46 if Tatum got his layups to go,
01:21:48 which were a lot of his shooting struggles,
01:21:50 missed bunnies in there,
01:21:52 you're looking at a runaway win in this game.
01:21:55 So that's where, the shooting's a big part of his game.
01:21:57 He needs to shoot well, at least decent.
01:22:00 Shooting poorly, as he's done throughout the playoffs,
01:22:03 it's tough and it makes it a little easier to guard.
01:22:08 The difference between Tatum this year,
01:22:12 Tatum two years ago and Brown to some degree too,
01:22:14 although Brown had his turnover issues tonight,
01:22:16 they're able to make that play again and again and again,
01:22:19 and care less than ever, at the very least,
01:22:22 about the low scoring figures from those guys.
01:22:25 And the teammates, the help is different.
01:22:27 They're able to hurt the defense
01:22:29 in a much more effective way.
01:22:31 You know, Holiday tonight,
01:22:33 I don't know if Smart's able to sit himself
01:22:35 in that position and make those tough layups,
01:22:37 make those tough finishes.
01:22:38 - See, Sharaf, he did it. - They were tough.
01:22:39 - He did it, me, I didn't do it.
01:22:42 - I was gonna ask if you guys brought that up too.
01:22:46 Is that something you guys talked about earlier?
01:22:47 - I did.
01:22:47 - I mean, look, every once in a while,
01:22:48 it comes up, he's in the back of most people's minds,
01:22:51 watching these games.
01:22:52 I mean, how can he not be?
01:22:53 When you look at what this team was,
01:22:54 what they looked like last year.
01:22:55 But I mean, Drew has just been spectacular.
01:22:58 It's simple as that.
01:22:59 It was his best performance of the playoffs, if you ask me.
01:23:02 And a lot of it was just because of the Dalles Mavericks,
01:23:04 just maybe forgetting about him a little bit helped,
01:23:08 but also just, it was Drew making the plays
01:23:10 that he needed to make and splitting defenders
01:23:12 and just making some really, really tough baskets down low
01:23:15 through contact and everything.
01:23:17 It was an incredible performance.
01:23:18 - If it was him just making reads
01:23:19 and putting himself in those positions, that's big stuff.
01:23:22 I wonder how much of it was a game plan
01:23:24 to say that Dunker's spot's gonna be open there
01:23:27 like it was over and over and over again.
01:23:29 'Cause it seemed to happen
01:23:30 midway through the second quarter.
01:23:32 - I'm gonna credit Joe for that.
01:23:34 I don't know if that's something they did.
01:23:36 Did anybody ask anybody about that?
01:23:38 Like how that came about?
01:23:39 - It looked pretty methodical.
01:23:40 - It just kinda happened all the time.
01:23:44 What's that?
01:23:45 - It was one of the things I asked off the bat, John,
01:23:47 and I got scolded by Joe.
01:23:49 He said, "I didn't ask the right first question
01:23:51 "of the presser.
01:23:51 "It should have been about Peyton Pritchard's heave,
01:23:54 "10 to third."
01:23:55 He said that was the most important play of the game.
01:23:56 - Were you doing the sidebar thing?
01:23:58 Were you pushing the side after that?
01:23:59 - No, it was right in the presser.
01:24:01 - You should have asked about Peyton Pritchard's religion.
01:24:05 That was the right, I wouldn't have asked the question.
01:24:06 (laughing)
01:24:09 - Yeah, you should have.
01:24:10 He would have loved that question.
01:24:11 (laughing)
01:24:12 - Hey, is Kyrie still in the game?
01:24:15 - You think it was just faith?
01:24:16 Yeah, I don't know.
01:24:17 Anything from Kyrie Jackson?
01:24:19 - I don't see anything on Kyrie.
01:24:20 - Yes, yes.
01:24:22 Kyrie, yeah, actually had a chance to catch
01:24:24 the last few minutes of his presser
01:24:26 on my way to the Celtics.
01:24:27 And yeah, he gave a lot of credit
01:24:28 to the Celtics' defense.
01:24:30 You know, what they've been able to do
01:24:33 in the sense of just stopping them,
01:24:34 especially in transition.
01:24:35 He believes that it's something that's gonna improve
01:24:37 in a big way in Dallas.
01:24:38 He also talked about Pritchard's shot,
01:24:40 actually, believe it or not.
01:24:41 Talking about just how some of those shots
01:24:43 just really hurt, you know,
01:24:44 when you think you've got the Celtics
01:24:46 in sort of a, in the corner, so to speak.
01:24:48 Even though they didn't, they had the lead,
01:24:50 but not quite at that point.
01:24:51 - I do think it was a big play.
01:24:52 - When he hit the buzzer beater.
01:24:54 But yeah, it was just a bit of a punch in the gut.
01:24:56 - Didn't Indiana do it to the Celtics a hundred times?
01:24:58 - Yeah, yeah.
01:24:59 - Didn't they hit like five,
01:25:00 didn't the Pacers hit like five buzzer beaters,
01:25:03 quarter buzzer beaters in that series?
01:25:05 - That was like their thing, that series.
01:25:06 Yeah, you're right.
01:25:07 - That's just such a gut punch.
01:25:09 It's so, we've been on the other side of it.
01:25:11 Dallas must've been like, oh no.
01:25:15 It was like, oh, that was-
01:25:16 - And then Kyrie talked about,
01:25:18 he talked about one that happened in game one
01:25:20 with Sam Houser.
01:25:21 He said, dude, as he put it,
01:25:23 kind of paraphrasing here,
01:25:24 he said, dude didn't even bring the ball down.
01:25:26 He still, he just caught, threw it up there,
01:25:28 and it went through the net.
01:25:29 He actually pointed to them playing in this environment
01:25:31 and playing at TD Garden,
01:25:33 and it just makes it particularly more difficult.
01:25:36 I think it's more difficult for him, if you ask me though.
01:25:38 I mean, if you look at the numbers,
01:25:40 I mean, it's not like they've been spectacular
01:25:42 here all season.
01:25:44 They've only lost two in the playoffs
01:25:46 and they both happened here.
01:25:47 And throughout the regular season,
01:25:50 it wasn't the greatest record,
01:25:51 but Kyrie thinks it's a big part
01:25:54 of what's going on here for Celtics.
01:25:55 - I always think about those things too,
01:25:57 because you're up five at that point
01:26:00 when Washington's running for that fast break
01:26:02 where White and Brown blocked them.
01:26:03 - PJ, yeah.
01:26:04 - If you didn't get that Pritchard heave,
01:26:06 which Brown actually said Pritchard
01:26:08 checked himself into the game to take.
01:26:11 So again, another guy making a play,
01:26:13 making a decision on this team
01:26:14 to insert himself into an important position.
01:26:17 - That's a veteran move right there too.
01:26:18 - So you don't hit that shot
01:26:21 and everything else stays the same.
01:26:23 Washington's running to tie the game,
01:26:25 not make it a three point game at that point
01:26:28 after the 11 nothing run or whatever it was,
01:26:31 or nine nothing run.
01:26:31 So I always just look at plays like that.
01:26:35 There was a lane violation on Brown's missed free throw
01:26:38 in the second, I think, where he reshoots it,
01:26:41 he gets an extra point from that.
01:26:43 That offensive rebound Holiday got
01:26:45 that got Tatum a three point play.
01:26:47 Those are the little things this team does
01:26:49 that is gonna make them a champion team.
01:26:51 And as they started doing that more and more this year,
01:26:53 it happened pretty early in the season, those kind of plays.
01:26:57 But now that it's translated night after night
01:26:59 in the playoffs, this is why you're gonna go potentially
01:27:02 80 and 20 this season if you sleep this series
01:27:05 or 14 or 16 and two in these playoffs
01:27:09 or whatever it will be if you sleep this series.
01:27:12 Those things make it so that if there's a close game,
01:27:15 you're gonna pull it out.
01:27:17 If it's a game that you're probably gonna lose,
01:27:19 you might pull it out still.
01:27:21 Or if you're up by a small amount in a game,
01:27:24 you might win it big.
01:27:25 And that's what this team did all year.
01:27:26 It's gonna be the thing I remember most about this team
01:27:28 if they win the championship,
01:27:30 is just doing all those little things
01:27:32 that expand their margins, give them room for error.
01:27:34 If you're up two, or if you're potentially gonna give up
01:27:37 a tie in that game, you might not be able to contest
01:27:39 that breakaway as much.
01:27:41 'Cause if you follow them,
01:27:42 you're potentially giving away the lead there.
01:27:44 You're up five, it's Washington,
01:27:46 you can be a little bit more aggressive there.
01:27:48 And that's what a play like that Pritchard one does.
01:27:50 It was huge.
01:27:51 I don't know if it was lead the press conference off huge,
01:27:53 but it was big.
01:27:55 - Yeah, but that's Joe.
01:27:56 I get it.
01:27:57 But I like that Cary brought it up
01:27:58 because it shows that it was in his mind.
01:28:01 Even after everything that happened
01:28:02 throughout the second half,
01:28:03 he's like, "Man, that Pritchard three."
01:28:05 - Three seconds left.
01:28:06 They got three guys at midcourt trying to prevent it
01:28:08 and he still gets it off and hits it pretty clean.
01:28:11 - And I love the fact that Tatum and Brown,
01:28:13 for them to combine for as many assists as they did,
01:28:15 completely, more assists than the Dallas Marist had
01:28:19 as a team.
01:28:20 I mean, that's just a testament to how deep this team is,
01:28:23 right?
01:28:24 How they really trust these guys.
01:28:25 And for Jalen Brown to put the icing on the cake
01:28:28 with that block, that chase down block,
01:28:29 that collaborative block with Derek White.
01:28:32 That was special, man.
01:28:33 This place was rocking.
01:28:34 - While you're talking about it,
01:28:35 one of the things we spent a good amount of time on
01:28:37 was just talking about how critical the defense was
01:28:41 in both of these games.
01:28:42 And it's kind of a sign of how the Celtics
01:28:44 are extremely serious about this.
01:28:46 Is there hasn't been a lot done.
01:28:48 Even when they were playing poorly,
01:28:49 they were playing hard in that first half
01:28:52 when the shots weren't falling.
01:28:53 And the defense was clearly something
01:28:55 that they're locked in on.
01:28:56 And honestly, there's been so few left
01:28:59 through the first two games.
01:29:01 The defense has been relentless
01:29:03 and really set the tone for this.
01:29:04 And it's why you win a game
01:29:06 when you shoot as poorly as you did from three,
01:29:09 which is your hallmark on offense,
01:29:11 and you weren't really able to do it.
01:29:13 Here's Jalen Brown, who's been lights out on defense,
01:29:16 both of these games.
01:29:17 And he's throwing that Lucas.
01:29:19 I mean, he's been all over
01:29:20 and he was part of that big chase down block
01:29:22 at the end of the game.
01:29:23 Here's Brown talking about the defense.
01:29:24 - You guys have held the maps under 100
01:29:26 in both of these games.
01:29:27 And then particularly in the second half tonight,
01:29:29 we did against Lucas.
01:29:30 Defensively, how are you doing this?
01:29:32 - Just like effort plays.
01:29:37 I think tonight we wasn't as crisp defensively.
01:29:41 It was a lot of miscommunications out there.
01:29:43 A lot of stuff that we gave up
01:29:45 that we didn't give up in the first game.
01:29:48 So I think we gotta be better in that regard.
01:29:51 But I think our effort has been the key.
01:29:54 Just the mentality, picking a guy up full court,
01:29:57 and stuff like that just wears on him over time.
01:30:00 But I think we need to be more crisp
01:30:03 going into the next two games.
01:30:06 Fourth row on the aisle over here on your left.
01:30:08 (crowd cheering)
01:30:11 - Yeah, and you saw those breakdowns.
01:30:12 - Effort makes up for lack of execution
01:30:15 in some things there.
01:30:16 It's like, if it's not going perfectly,
01:30:19 if you just keep grinding like they have been,
01:30:21 good things come out of it.
01:30:24 There's been no let up in their effort
01:30:26 at any point in this series defensively.
01:30:29 - No, and that's what you have to do.
01:30:31 - That's what you have to do to start the game.
01:30:33 - Yeah, you do.
01:30:34 - Effort made up for bad shot making on your end.
01:30:37 Dallas getting hot, UCA getting hot early.
01:30:40 You kept it close 'cause of that effort.
01:30:42 Doing little things, defending, all that stuff.
01:30:45 So again, another hallmark of this team.
01:30:48 And Josue, I have a tough time believing in these mouths.
01:30:53 You just see these two teams.
01:30:55 - I don't blame you, man.
01:30:56 (laughing)
01:30:59 - We're trying to manage the actual series here.
01:31:02 - Jimmy and I didn't believe from the get go.
01:31:05 We did not.
01:31:06 - It's the first time all believers.
01:31:07 - Anywhere close to what the folks are doing right now.
01:31:09 - It's just tough, right?
01:31:10 'Cause they're so limited around the two stars.
01:31:13 Have the two stars struggling like they have.
01:31:14 I thought Luca was horrible.
01:31:16 Horrible in the second half.
01:31:18 And how did the injury play into that?
01:31:20 I don't know.
01:31:21 - There's no injury.
01:31:22 He was gassed 'cause they're wearing him down.
01:31:24 There's no injury.
01:31:25 There's no injury that's limiting him in a serious way.
01:31:28 There's not.
01:31:29 - He played all but, what, 96 in that first half?
01:31:32 - When they hit those two almost knockout shots
01:31:35 in the third before Dallas went on that run
01:31:37 to almost tie it, it was Drew then White.
01:31:40 And I think Luca turned it over before the Drew one, right?
01:31:43 And so he's back on offense or defense.
01:31:46 And he just stood there and watched Drew pull up
01:31:48 and just didn't try.
01:31:49 It looked like he quit in that moment.
01:31:51 I think they called timeout after the next one
01:31:53 that White hit.
01:31:54 You can't do that in the finals.
01:31:56 And there's too many moments like that with him.
01:31:58 He doesn't look ready physically for this moment.
01:32:02 Injuries and just the conditioning
01:32:04 and the ability to defend play after play.
01:32:06 Luca really got Tatum going to the degree
01:32:09 that Tatum did in that second half
01:32:11 'cause he just allowed Tatum to blow by him.
01:32:13 Hope comes behind and he's passing the ball
01:32:16 all over the place.
01:32:17 He's a disaster defensively.
01:32:19 He really is.
01:32:20 - I mean, they forced him to be a defender.
01:32:22 And I think that what you're saying,
01:32:24 I mean, there's a lot to it.
01:32:25 Him doing what he did in that first half was incredible.
01:32:28 I'll be the first one to say,
01:32:29 I've never seen someone score 20 points that quickly
01:32:32 in 12 minutes.
01:32:33 But he needs help.
01:32:34 He needs other guys out there.
01:32:35 He needs three, four, three pointers from PJ Washington.
01:32:38 He needs Lyle to drop 14.
01:32:39 He's Kyrie to be anywhere near 20, 21, 22.
01:32:43 Like that stuff is just,
01:32:44 it's really hard for them to put together
01:32:46 outside of obviously what Luca's been doing.
01:32:48 - And you know, you have the injury.
01:32:50 - You mentioned that real quick.
01:32:52 Just where you mentioned that boy,
01:32:53 have they completely taken their bigs out of the series?
01:32:56 - Yeah, in a big way.
01:32:59 I mean, they got a couple of those alley-oos,
01:33:00 which I was like, okay, that was huge for them.
01:33:02 - But almost none.
01:33:03 - It's been super hard for them to get those.
01:33:06 Yeah.
01:33:07 I mean, the way everyone's running back, Drew, White.
01:33:10 I mean, there was one play where Al got back.
01:33:12 He didn't block Luca, but he got in front of him.
01:33:14 You know, that type of resistance
01:33:16 where he had a second chance play opportunity,
01:33:18 but then he protected the room the rest of the way.
01:33:20 There was other members of the Mavericks down there.
01:33:22 They couldn't get the layup and Al was there
01:33:24 just to completely ruin their day.
01:33:27 I just feel like there's so many guys like that
01:33:29 who get back in transition, who are athletic.
01:33:32 You know, they're quicker than the Mavericks.
01:33:35 - I remember one lob, guys.
01:33:37 That's it.
01:33:38 - That kind of play.
01:33:39 Yeah, I think there was two, but yeah, you might be right.
01:33:41 I mean, one was when Derek White got dunked on.
01:33:43 Is that the one?
01:33:44 - Porzingis got caught in between
01:33:46 and he couldn't quite get back on it.
01:33:47 He had to extend out on the shooter a little bit.
01:33:50 They got one, I remember.
01:33:51 But yeah, anyway, it wasn't much at all.
01:33:53 It really wasn't much at all.
01:33:55 We're still waiting on Jason Tatum to speak.
01:33:58 We might linger on a little bit longer,
01:34:00 see if we can get Tatum's reaction to his game on here.
01:34:03 I want him to be happy instead of mopey at the podium.
01:34:08 You're up two-oh.
01:34:09 I'm hoping, I wanna see, you know.
01:34:14 - You should be.
01:34:15 You played good.
01:34:16 - We're not gonna get mopey Tatum, I hope not.
01:34:18 - You played good again.
01:34:19 - After this whole weekend, you know, yeah.
01:34:21 The second half, he turned his performance around a bit.
01:34:25 - Let me just say, if this series continues
01:34:27 to go in this direction, I don't wanna hear
01:34:29 about Luka being better than Tatum
01:34:31 'cause of the stats or the output or the scoring,
01:34:33 whatever, just watch the two guys play head to head.
01:34:37 They're going head to head in this series.
01:34:38 Tatum's guarding Luka almost every possession in this game.
01:34:42 Luka's guarding Tatum quite a few in this game.
01:34:44 And Luka can't stop Tatum ever.
01:34:46 And Tatum's piling up stops on him where he can.
01:34:49 So it's just, it's not about the scoring.
01:34:52 It's not about the stats.
01:34:53 Just look at their impact on the game.
01:34:54 And Luka isn't even close to Tatum right now in this series.
01:34:58 I don't care that he has the ball every play
01:35:00 and he's shooting every shot.
01:35:01 So he's scoring more points.
01:35:03 Like this is kind of where it gets ridiculous
01:35:05 when we talk about Tatum.
01:35:07 And I am gonna defend him in that sense
01:35:08 because Luka is not doing anything else
01:35:11 aside from handling the ball the whole game
01:35:13 and doing everything.
01:35:15 And Tatum's touching all these other areas of the game.
01:35:17 Like it's ridiculous.
01:35:19 - But Tatum has more help.
01:35:22 - Are you mad about it?
01:35:24 - Yeah, he's sounding mad.
01:35:25 He's sounding big mad.
01:35:26 What's Luka supposed to do?
01:35:28 - Is he supposed to shoot to freaking PJ Washington?
01:35:31 Break a shot?
01:35:32 - Defend.
01:35:34 - Defend, it's part of the game.
01:35:38 Why can't he defend?
01:35:39 - He can't Bobby, he can't.
01:35:42 He tries.
01:35:43 - He's fired up.
01:35:44 - He tries.
01:35:45 He can't.
01:35:46 - There's two sides to the ball
01:35:47 and we never talk about defense.
01:35:49 - We do, but Bobby, it's again, it's not equal.
01:35:52 Like a guy who's good at defense
01:35:54 and you know, and also good at offense.
01:35:57 Like the defense, like Luka's so otherworldly offensively
01:36:02 in terms of being able to control every aspect of the game
01:36:06 when he has the ball in his hands.
01:36:08 He's that Uber alpha that you just give him the ball
01:36:10 and let him do it all.
01:36:12 That it just elevates him beyond most players offensively
01:36:15 'cause very few people can do what he does.
01:36:18 But defensively, he's a problem.
01:36:21 He's a legit problem.
01:36:23 And there's a great line.
01:36:24 I think it was in Corrales wrote it, BSJ here
01:36:28 from a Simpsons, you know, quoting an old Simpsons episode
01:36:33 was basically, oh, it was Donchus is like beer.
01:36:39 Donchus is the cause of and solution
01:36:41 to all of the Mavs problems, you know?
01:36:43 And that's pretty much what it is.
01:36:45 It's like, he's the best thing about them
01:36:46 but also at times the worst thing about them.
01:36:49 And you can't separate the two Bobby.
01:36:50 So it's fair to point that out
01:36:54 because that's what you see is like
01:36:56 when he's as good as he is offensively
01:36:59 but your entire game plan is around,
01:37:01 let's just wreck that guy and run everything through him
01:37:06 and make him defend and make him to have to chase guys
01:37:09 and create three on two opportunities here
01:37:12 when he gets blown by on every single drive.
01:37:14 That's a legit problem.
01:37:16 It's almost every trip down, Luca is part
01:37:18 of what the other team is trying to do offensively.
01:37:21 It's a problem.
01:37:26 - And I just feel like with the defense, man,
01:37:27 this is the best we've seen, you know?
01:37:30 So of course it's gonna be hard
01:37:31 for him to get other guys going.
01:37:32 And of course, some of these guys just aren't experienced,
01:37:35 you know, enough to be in this big spot, you know?
01:37:38 Guys like Lively and man, we got a Dante Exum siding.
01:37:41 You hit a bucket, but just like guys who just aren't,
01:37:44 they haven't been here before
01:37:45 and they're being put in a big, big spot.
01:37:48 And yeah, obviously Luca's clearly prepared for it,
01:37:51 but it's really hard,
01:37:52 especially outside of Kyrie Herve, you know?
01:37:54 I thought PJ Washington was gonna have
01:37:56 somewhat of a better performance than we saw in game one,
01:37:58 but it comes and goes.
01:37:59 It's really hard for him to stay consistent
01:38:01 against the Celtics defense.
01:38:03 It never stops.
01:38:04 The Celtics defense just continues to get stronger
01:38:06 and stronger as the game goes on.
01:38:08 And by the fourth quarter, Dallas was just really,
01:38:11 it was really hard for them to put up points.
01:38:13 - Yeah, there's certainly a talent disparity in this series.
01:38:15 There's no doubt about it,
01:38:16 but you can utilize other guys and that's what Tatum does.
01:38:21 Yeah, he does allow the other guys
01:38:22 to set the table offensively at times.
01:38:24 - We don't hate that though.
01:38:25 He's supposed to score 40, he's Tatum.
01:38:27 - There were situations in this game where Tatum's off ball.
01:38:29 - He's gotta hit layups and drives stronger.
01:38:32 - Yeah, but my point is, John,
01:38:37 Luca's on the ball pretty much every possession
01:38:39 in the entire game.
01:38:40 There's a few where Irving is able to run the show
01:38:42 and run some sets and they got one in the first half
01:38:45 where he set up Luca in the corner,
01:38:47 but Tatum's off ball so much more often than him.
01:38:50 He's allowing other guys to initiate sets.
01:38:52 Brown, like how much more involved is Brown than Kyrie?
01:38:56 I think that stands out to me here
01:38:58 because if you're Luca, you can utilize a Kyrie
01:39:00 to try to free yourself a little bit,
01:39:03 try to get yourself to ball in some different positions,
01:39:05 but he just wants the ball in his hands the whole game,
01:39:07 like LeBron, like Harden,
01:39:09 like some of these most ball dominant guys ever.
01:39:12 So, this talent there for him to utilize,
01:39:14 this is the West champions.
01:39:15 They're not an eight seed here.
01:39:19 I guess this is a team that has some talent.
01:39:22 I know these guys are missing shots and all that,
01:39:24 but I'm gonna put some of this on Luca.
01:39:26 Tatum gets a lot of the blame when he struggles.
01:39:29 Luca's struggling immensely right now,
01:39:31 and I know he's hurt, but when you're hurt and you play,
01:39:33 - He's not hurt. - you get judged.
01:39:35 - And he's not, he's not, he's not hurt.
01:39:40 The Celtics are wearing him down.
01:39:41 They're wearing him down.
01:39:42 Luca started nine of 13 in the first half.
01:39:44 He finished 12 of 21.
01:39:46 So he went three of, he was almost, he almost disappeared.
01:39:49 I'm not gonna say a total non-factor,
01:39:52 two different players, first half, second half.
01:39:54 So, and Irving, again, he starts four of five,
01:39:57 he finishes seven of 18.
01:40:00 So, they wore him down.
01:40:01 They just wore these guys down.
01:40:02 They make them work for every single thing that they get,
01:40:04 and they make them defend,
01:40:05 and by the end, there's nothing left,
01:40:08 and that's gonna keep happening.
01:40:09 Credit to Missoula for not panicking at any point in time
01:40:13 early when Luca was hitting a ton of contested shots,
01:40:16 and like changing the plan and throwing other guys
01:40:19 or bringing others. - Well, they were
01:40:19 a little bit more trapped.
01:40:21 - Oh, yeah, they were a little more trapped.
01:40:22 But, John, even when he was going,
01:40:25 even when he was cooking, what did that turn into?
01:40:28 A four-point lead for the Mavericks?
01:40:30 - I thought the trap was really good.
01:40:31 - That's devastating.
01:40:32 You look at the scoreboard, you're like,
01:40:33 "Man, I'm exhausted.
01:40:34 "I just scored 20 points in 12 minutes,
01:40:35 "and we're up by three?"
01:40:38 - I think by the end of it, or by that third quarter,
01:40:40 when the way the Celtics kind of added the pressure on
01:40:44 defensively while Tatum was trying to find his rhythm,
01:40:47 it was a lot for him.
01:40:49 - Yeah, the traps are smart.
01:40:50 They came off guys who weren't threats.
01:40:52 - Yeah, exactly.
01:40:53 Every time they had an opportunity to do it, they did it.
01:40:56 Yeah, right, yeah.
01:40:57 - Well, and also, how many times did he wait way too long
01:40:59 to get rid of it?
01:41:00 He got like three seconds left.
01:41:01 He's throwing a grenade to Lively or whoever,
01:41:03 and they're chucking it up.
01:41:04 It's like, "Damn."
01:41:05 - These guys, man, though,
01:41:07 they are taking practice shots,
01:41:09 and they can't hit them right now.
01:41:10 Exxon, Derek Jones.
01:41:14 These guys, man, they're certainly not helping him,
01:41:16 so I guess I'll give him that.
01:41:18 But Tatum's been better than Luka so far in this series.
01:41:22 - No, I don't know.
01:41:26 - I got a chance to catch up with him in the hallway.
01:41:27 What'd you guys think of Kristaps Porzingis tonight?
01:41:29 - Old.
01:41:30 - Oh, he just wanted to make sure he wasn't hurt.
01:41:33 Sounds like he is.
01:41:34 - While we're trashing Luka and Kyrie,
01:41:37 I've got some sound.
01:41:38 Let's hear from those guys,
01:41:39 and then we'll move on to KP,
01:41:41 and then we'll wrap it.
01:41:42 Here you go.
01:41:42 - Eventually it worked.
01:41:43 - Yeah, I mean, obviously it didn't work 'cause we lost,
01:41:46 but at the end of the day,
01:41:50 we gotta make some more shots.
01:41:52 I think my turnovers and my missed free throws
01:41:54 cost us a game,
01:41:56 so I gotta do way better in those two categories.
01:42:00 But at the end of the day,
01:42:01 we gotta make shots to win the game.
01:42:04 - You know, a little disappointed in myself,
01:42:06 not being able to convert a lot more of my opportunities
01:42:09 that I have in the lane.
01:42:11 Obviously I'm going against Drew Holiday
01:42:13 and Jaylin Brown a few times,
01:42:15 but I feel like I have the upper edge
01:42:18 on certain possessions where I just gotta convert.
01:42:20 They're pushing me to my left hand a little bit more,
01:42:22 so I just gotta be aware of some of their adjustments
01:42:24 like I was in game one.
01:42:26 Felt good in the first half,
01:42:27 but in the second half,
01:42:29 just shots weren't going down,
01:42:30 and defensively I was out of position,
01:42:32 got some ticky tack fouls,
01:42:34 and just kind of took away from our flow of the game as well.
01:42:38 It wasn't just all on me,
01:42:39 but I'm definitely taking the majority of it
01:42:40 just because my teammates looked to me
01:42:43 to convert a lot of these shots and ease the burden,
01:42:45 not only just Luca,
01:42:46 but everyone else and settle our team.
01:42:48 - It wasn't on me, guys.
01:42:51 It wasn't on me.
01:42:52 It wasn't on me, guys.
01:42:53 I mean, I had something to do,
01:42:55 but it wasn't on me, so.
01:42:56 - And by the way, the Southers got six for 30
01:42:59 from three in this game.
01:43:00 They missed shots too.
01:43:02 - Five for 29 before the pitcher.
01:43:04 - A lot from three.
01:43:05 - Heave.
01:43:06 But, I mean, as we said,
01:43:08 those guys have to be like,
01:43:11 they have to be monsters,
01:43:13 and it's their Celtics are making it hard for them.
01:43:16 They have to be.
01:43:17 - And right now, I just get the sense
01:43:19 that Kyrie is just hoping that being back at home
01:43:21 is gonna change everything, you know?
01:43:23 And sometimes that doesn't always,
01:43:24 that's not always the way to go.
01:43:26 I mean, I don't know.
01:43:27 - They're gonna turn on them fast.
01:43:29 - Well, he's trying to give the Celtics a lot more credit
01:43:31 in a sense that they're playing here at TD Garden.
01:43:32 But for guys like us,
01:43:34 who've been watching this team all year long,
01:43:35 I mean, do any of you guys feel like that was the key
01:43:38 for them winning both of these games?
01:43:40 No, I just think the Celtics flat out beat them.
01:43:42 Yeah, this one was more competitive
01:43:43 than what we saw in game one,
01:43:45 but you still saw the gap,
01:43:47 the talent gap between these two teams.
01:43:49 Like, nothing about what we saw tonight has changed that.
01:43:51 - Yeah.
01:43:52 - Smart team, quicker to adjust,
01:43:53 quicker to notice things, make the right plays.
01:43:56 - Better team, better players.
01:43:58 - And again.
01:43:59 - I just feel like he's talking about himself.
01:44:01 He's like, "I'm gonna play better in Dallas.
01:44:02 It's fine."
01:44:04 Maybe he will, we'll see if he's gonna win.
01:44:06 - We said this, I said this on our text thread.
01:44:08 However you wanna rate this,
01:44:10 however you wanna rate where Luka and Kyrie fall
01:44:13 among the top, you know,
01:44:16 the hierarchy of rank, the players of this series,
01:44:19 I don't care who you put one, two, three, four.
01:44:21 The reality is the Mavericks are starting two guys
01:44:24 right now that would be, you know, like,
01:44:28 I don't know that Jones gets meaningful minutes
01:44:31 on the Celtics, period.
01:44:32 Gafford is your third center.
01:44:34 Gafford's your third center.
01:44:36 (laughing)
01:44:38 - Overlook?
01:44:38 - He's your third center, you know?
01:44:42 - Yes.
01:44:43 - And Washington probably takes the Hauser minutes
01:44:46 and that's it.
01:44:47 I mean, what are we talking about here?
01:44:48 You know, like, it's, again, I didn't get it.
01:44:52 You guys wanted to talk briefly about Chris Dapp's,
01:44:54 you know, and your thoughts there.
01:44:56 - Yeah, Bobby, you guys got to speak to him in the locker room.
01:45:01 I got a chance to catch up with him right in the hallway
01:45:03 before I hop on camera.
01:45:04 - Yeah, he wouldn't get in the injury specifically.
01:45:09 I don't know if you guys saw when it happened.
01:45:10 I didn't.
01:45:11 He just started to see him labor more, so half went on.
01:45:14 He wouldn't describe what it was,
01:45:16 but said it was not related to the previous injury
01:45:20 and that he's gonna try to be good to go.
01:45:22 They're gonna do everything they can
01:45:23 over the next two days to get him ready for that.
01:45:26 Also said he'll die out there.
01:45:27 You know, it wasn't hard to play through.
01:45:29 He was gonna fight through it, but did concede.
01:45:31 It was the right decision to get him out of there
01:45:34 'cause he was a little limited.
01:45:35 I don't know what it was.
01:45:36 - Wait, but what did Joe say though?
01:45:37 'Cause Joe completely dismissed it, right?
01:45:39 - Very surprising you did that.
01:45:42 - Are you being sarcastic?
01:45:43 I'm not surprised.
01:45:44 What do you mean?
01:45:45 If you ever see Joe be up there and be like,
01:45:47 yeah, man, we're screwed, or, you know,
01:45:48 maybe not screwed, but hey, so-and-so is really hurt.
01:45:50 He really hurt his ankle out there.
01:45:51 He's never gonna say something like that.
01:45:52 - This is what might concern you going to Dallas
01:45:54 because we're waiting for the aggravation,
01:45:57 and this probably wasn't an aggravation of that injury,
01:46:01 but maybe it was overcompensating in a different area.
01:46:05 Again, did you guys see anything?
01:46:06 'Cause I didn't see a specific injury.
01:46:09 - No, we didn't see like a moment when it happened.
01:46:12 - He just tailed way off, started laboring,
01:46:15 wasn't moving as well.
01:46:16 - No, there was an absolute moment
01:46:18 where he was off balance a little bit,
01:46:19 and you could see him kind of twist and tweak a little bit,
01:46:22 and then he was up and down.
01:46:23 So it was something, but it was the left leg, not the right.
01:46:26 And, you know, they were working on it afterwards.
01:46:29 So we'll see what that is.
01:46:30 But again, both he said he's not sitting game three,
01:46:33 and Joe said he's fine, no concern at all.
01:46:35 So I don't think they think there's a re-aggravation
01:46:38 of anything there.
01:46:40 What's going on, guys? - He's got a few days, too.
01:46:42 - Before we wrap it, is there any world in which,
01:46:46 what do you see happening here?
01:46:47 And again, the Celtics have been freaking lights out
01:46:50 on the road this postseason,
01:46:53 and that does not bode well for Dallas.
01:46:56 Also, Dallas had one thing they had going for them,
01:46:58 and again, not like other series play into this one,
01:47:01 but they were 3-0 in game twos this year,
01:47:04 and the Celtics were 1-2,
01:47:06 and this was the kind of bogeyman thing,
01:47:08 and it didn't go well for Dallas tonight.
01:47:12 And here they are headed back home,
01:47:13 down 2-0 with the Celtics.
01:47:15 Before we wrap it here, I'll just go around the horn.
01:47:18 Is it over?
01:47:18 And I mean, like, is it over in Dallas or what?
01:47:22 - They'll get one.
01:47:24 They'll get one.
01:47:24 You know, the Celtics will finish them off in five
01:47:28 back in Boston.
01:47:29 - Okay.
01:47:30 - Zamboni must be out.
01:47:33 - Yeah, Bobby Josue?
01:47:34 - Cleaning it up.
01:47:36 Yeah, I think they get one-two.
01:47:38 I just, I wish I predicted this one at five,
01:47:41 to be honest with you.
01:47:42 I just didn't.
01:47:42 I honestly thought Dallas, before the series started,
01:47:45 that they would be able to split these,
01:47:46 but this was gonna be the game, in my opinion, game two.
01:47:49 And even though the scoreboard doesn't indicate the gap,
01:47:53 I saw a significant one,
01:47:54 the same one I saw from Thursday night.
01:47:57 But yeah, I see Dallas gets one.
01:48:00 Celtics wrap up here in five.
01:48:01 - Yeah, I'll move it to five, too.
01:48:04 - Yeah, and you know, to see-
01:48:05 - Too late, too late.
01:48:06 - I know, I know, I know, yeah.
01:48:09 You got that one.
01:48:10 Wait, did you say five?
01:48:11 You just said five.
01:48:12 - Me and Jimmy, yeah.
01:48:13 - Did you?
01:48:14 - Jimmy and I did.
01:48:15 - Honestly, I might say four now,
01:48:17 because I don't know.
01:48:19 Why should the Celtics lose,
01:48:20 unless they just decide to take a game off?
01:48:22 They're so much better than the Mavericks.
01:48:25 I think they have more of a killer mentality,
01:48:26 but they swept the Pacers,
01:48:28 so it's certainly not out of the realm of possibilities
01:48:30 that they'll sweep this Mavericks.
01:48:33 - Game three will probably be the best game of the series.
01:48:35 - Yeah, two things I'm looking at, obviously,
01:48:37 are Porzingis' ability to play well
01:48:40 and sustain through the course of a game.
01:48:42 Obviously, Irving being less distracted at home.
01:48:45 This environment clearly got to him here.
01:48:46 So that'll change things a little bit.
01:48:48 - It will, it will.
01:48:49 And Kyrie's certainly hoping on that for sure.
01:48:51 I think he's banking on it, to be honest.
01:48:53 But Chris Stapps, getting back in Dallas,
01:48:55 I think should be interesting as well.
01:48:57 I spoke to him briefly, like I said, in the hallway.
01:48:59 He told me this crowd,
01:49:01 the whole lead up through the tunnel and all that stuff,
01:49:04 the exact same vibes he had in game one.
01:49:05 It was a tremendous boost.
01:49:07 And he's not quite sure what to expect in Dallas.
01:49:09 He did tell me that he has people
01:49:11 he's looking forward to catching up with
01:49:12 that he hasn't seen in a while.
01:49:13 But in terms of the crowd and his reception,
01:49:15 he told me he's not even thinking about that.
01:49:17 He's so in the zone, he's in the moment right now,
01:49:19 NBA finals.
01:49:20 So he says, "Yeah, I'm not even thinking
01:49:22 in terms of what kind of reception I'll get.
01:49:23 I'm just ready to go.
01:49:24 I can't wait to get over there."
01:49:25 - Did you guys notice his first game playing back there?
01:49:28 - Yeah, that's why I wanted to know.
01:49:30 - That's crazy.
01:49:31 - I don't know.
01:49:32 I don't care where the game is.
01:49:34 And I don't care, you know, about Kyrie's feelings.
01:49:38 One team is much better than the other.
01:49:42 This was the last game at TD Garden for the season.
01:49:44 We're closing it up here.
01:49:46 And that is that.
01:49:47 - Take a picture, boys, before you leave.
01:49:51 - This thing is over.
01:49:51 Before we go, Jason Tatum.
01:49:53 - You might prefer one loss on the road, win it here.
01:49:56 - Yeah, you know.
01:49:58 - John's like, "I'm good."
01:50:00 (laughing)
01:50:01 - He's like, "I'll be out there."
01:50:02 - I like it both ways.
01:50:03 It's fine.
01:50:04 But anyway, Tatum, as we said,
01:50:06 kind of an interesting line here
01:50:09 that people are gonna scrutinize tomorrow.
01:50:11 And it's gonna be a topic of conversation
01:50:13 to everybody on the show here.
01:50:15 You know, we all did agree that this was a solid Tatum game
01:50:19 despite the shooting woes.
01:50:20 But here's Tatum talking about
01:50:21 not having to be the man every single night.
01:50:24 - I mean, there's different ways, I guess,
01:50:29 to phrase that.
01:50:30 You know, it's not all about scoring.
01:50:33 You know, I can be the guy, you know,
01:50:37 rebounding and getting assists and drawing attention.
01:50:41 You know, I have the ball.
01:50:42 In certain spots, right, I draw so much attention.
01:50:49 It's not always, I'm not always gonna be the guy
01:50:51 that get the shot.
01:50:52 But, you know, sometimes sacrificing,
01:50:57 being in those spots to make the play,
01:51:00 that we get the best shot possible,
01:51:01 knowing that, you know, what they wanna take away
01:51:03 in their schemes and things like that.
01:51:07 So, you know, being the guy in different ways,
01:51:11 maybe you don't score all the points,
01:51:12 but you do all the things to, you know,
01:51:15 put you guys in the best position to win.
01:51:18 - That's right.
01:51:21 That's what leaders do.
01:51:22 - Oh, man.
01:51:23 That was a,
01:51:24 that was about as boring of a-
01:51:27 - You're muted, John.
01:51:28 - You could get.
01:51:29 - That was a really sleepy way to end the show.
01:51:31 I'm sorry I played that.
01:51:32 - That was really bad, man.
01:51:33 It's the NBA finals and that's the energy, bro.
01:51:37 - Hey, you know what?
01:51:37 That might be good.
01:51:38 People are jacked up after the game.
01:51:39 Sometimes, you know, on a stage like this,
01:51:42 you'll stay up all night after a big win.
01:51:44 That'll get you-
01:51:46 - Yeah, take everybody down.
01:51:47 - Into the sheets and, yeah.
01:51:50 Ready to sleep.
01:51:50 - Yeah, it's fine.
01:51:52 - We gotta find out tomorrow, though.
01:51:53 - That's as good a thing to get us
01:51:56 to say good night as we can.
01:51:57 - The battle, Bobby's yawns.
01:52:00 Damn, yo, Bobby let out the biggest yawns.
01:52:03 - Normally it's Sherrod.
01:52:04 If you guys want more basketball talk,

01:52:26 How many?
01:52:28 Oh, I did the balloons.
01:52:29 - Oh, don't stop the breathing.
01:52:31 - You know what I love about this one?
01:52:34 This is the rock concert.
01:52:35 - Yeah, the laser light show.
01:52:37 - Two more.
01:52:37 (imitates laser)
01:52:38 - Yeah, I love it.
01:52:40 Two more.
01:52:40 - You gotta do that when they win it all.
01:52:42 Maybe in Dallas, you gotta do that one.
01:52:44 - Yeah, I love it, I love it.
01:52:46 Thank you guys.
01:52:47 Thanks everybody in the chat for hanging out.
01:52:48 - Wow, you guys enjoyed Dallas.
01:52:49 I'll hold it down back here for you, all right?
01:52:52 - Yeah, appreciate it.
01:52:53 - Don't worry about me.
01:52:54 - Thanks, Jimmy.
01:52:54 - When's the last time we're gonna be in TD Garden this season?
01:52:55 You gotta be thinking now, Jon.
01:52:56 - I think it might be.
01:52:58 - Might be.
01:52:59 - Damn.
01:53:00 - Send us a postcard.
01:53:02 - I think they're gonna win it here.
01:53:03 - What a season.
01:53:05 - All right.
01:53:06 - Okay, thank you guys.
01:53:07 - What's up?
01:53:08 - Appreciate you guys.
01:53:08 - Buy a hard hat.
01:53:09 - Thank you for tuning in.
01:53:10 - Buy hard hats, guys.
01:53:11 We will see you guys.
01:53:12 - Merch.
01:53:14 - Yeah, merch it up.
01:53:15 Make sure you check it out.
01:53:16 We'll see you guys after.
01:53:16 - Merch it up.
01:53:17 - How about them damn Celtics?
01:53:18 - Go check out First to the Floor.
01:53:20 - There's a t-shirt.
01:53:21 - Wait, Amit's got an outro for us, I think.
01:53:23 - No, he doesn't.
01:53:24 - You said he was gonna work on an outro.
01:53:26 (upbeat music)
01:53:27 - He had a phenomenal game.
01:53:29 - Phenomenal.
01:53:30 (laughs)
01:53:32 - Poor Firdaus.
01:53:33 - I think it's an option.
01:53:34 (laughs)
01:53:36 - That did not sound like a chair.
01:53:39 - It was a freaking chair.
01:53:41 It does sound like a chair.
01:53:42 (upbeat music)
01:53:45 (upbeat music)
