00:00 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:03 Last question for you here.
00:04 And you've been involved in a bunch of high-level restoration
00:08 projects.
00:09 You mentioned Southern Hills and also here Colonial
00:13 and a bunch of other ones.
00:15 From your standpoint, do you enjoy doing these projects more?
00:19 Or do you like the ones where you have just an open piece
00:22 of land where you're able to kind of have the canvas
00:25 and be an artist and create something that
00:27 has Gil Hans' name on it?
00:29 [LAUGHS]
00:31 Definitely a new course.
00:33 Because of the creativity, because of the freedom,
00:36 the flexibility-- now, don't get me wrong.
00:37 We love doing these projects.
00:39 And when we sign up for them, we understand
00:41 that our focus is going to be Perry Maxwell.
00:43 It's going to be Tillinghast.
00:44 It's going to be Rainer.
00:45 It's going to be those things.
00:46 And we're 100% comfortable working in that world.
00:49 And we learn a lot.
00:50 I think we benefit as architects from that.
00:53 But for a number of reasons, the creativity,
00:58 the opportunities that new golf courses present to themselves.
01:02 But then from a practical standpoint,
01:04 when you're building a new golf course,
01:06 you're dealing with one owner, two owners.
01:08 And they've hired you for a reason.
01:09 And they're happy to have you there.
01:11 When you work with a club, there's 1,000 members.
01:14 There's probably at least 200 that
01:16 are not happy you're there for whatever reason
01:19 or are opposed to the project, et cetera.
01:21 So the restoration projects are a lot more political,
01:26 which expends a little bit more energy,
01:28 whereas with the new projects, creativity, excitement,
01:33 piece of ground, but also a lot less politics.
01:37 (upbeat music)
