00:00There are 16 guys under par and there are a lot of alarm bells being raised, but I mean,
00:09we've had this discussion a number of times on this show.
00:12It's a week where I think outside of Saturday where there was a little bit of a wind, hardly
00:16any wind.
00:17They had some weather leading in, so the greens are soft.
00:20The conditions are soft.
00:21It's not the longest course in the world.
00:23The defense system is, you know, maybe you can't hit driver on every hole and there's
00:27some rough.
00:28You know, when the rough gets up and you get out of position, that's where you kind of
00:31struggle.
00:32But you're going from something where the scoring conditions, the last two weeks really
00:35have been very, very good to, I just came back from Scotland and I'm still having cold
00:43sweats thinking about those 30 mile per hour left to right wins on the tees and just hitting
00:47the ball.
00:48It's just still going this high odd into space and never coming back.
00:52And I wonder, um, you know, I, I, you know, I don't, I'm, I'm going to do the bad journalist
00:57thing here of like asking you multiple different questions, but the discussions I want to have
01:01are one, you know, state of the game, John Deere, you know, like, are we raising alarm
01:07bells here?
01:08Or is this sort of like a mother nature?
01:10We can't really control this weather thing, but I kind of want to play out for and talk
01:12about a guy like Davis or even a guy like Scotty Sheffler, who I believe is not playing
01:17the Scottish this week.
01:19And I think if I, if my memory serves correctly, he played the Scottish last year.
01:23He did not have a good week.
01:25I remember that was a particularly bad putting week where there was some frustration we saw
01:28come through on the broadcast.
01:30And then I believe he was in like the T 40 range for the open championship last year.
01:34And I was like the first time he recorded a finish that was outside the top 15 or top
01:3810 and you know, maybe close to a year.
01:41So there are your three directions I want to go.
01:44You, you pick a lane and take me in that direction.
01:47Then we'll get to the other ones as we kind of move through the rest of the show.
01:51Well do you want to get into Scotty?
01:53Do you want to get into the Scottish?
01:55What do you want to, what do you want me to get into here?
01:57Cause I can go whatever direction.
01:59Well, let's, let's talk about, let's stay on deer.
02:01Let's just finish up deer on course conditions.
02:03And like, are you, are you raising the alarm?
02:06You know, we saw Hayden springers 59, you know, or is this you like a, I mean, cause
02:11there are other stats too, that were outside conditions where like Luke Clanton was, you
02:15know, and, and Thor Bjornsson were touching like mid one 80 ball speed all week long.
02:19And I mean, I send it out there, but it's, it's, it just, it just keeps bringing up this
02:25discussion of like the equipment, the ball, et cetera, et cetera.
02:29Like I just want to kind of take your temp check on this after a week like this, where
02:32the scoring is low.
02:33Yeah.
02:34Well, this golf course has never really tested a player's ability to, to hit all the shots.
02:41It's a point and shoot type of place.
02:43It's a ball strikers paradise, because if you execute, you're going to have 16 good
02:48birdie looks.
02:49And Davis Thompson is, as we've just noted, one of the best executors on tour of being
02:56able to, to pull off whatever shot he wants to and be able to hit the middle of the face
03:01and, and hit it where he's looking.
03:04So I'm not a raising the alarm bells about the John Deere.
03:07It's always been a shootout.
03:09We know that going into the week and you just got to show up and make birdies.
03:14Is it raising alarm about maybe going to different places?
03:18Sure.
03:19But I, I think you kind of know what you're getting to when you go to the John Deere.
