00:00 accidentally said my baby one time on accident.
00:03 That's, it's shorthand for the thing that's growing inside of me
00:06 that's not really mine, but it's completely taken over my body.
00:10 It's making me have to pee 24/7.
00:12 It makes me hungry and hormonal.
00:14 And it's really my sister's and her partner's.
00:17 - Yeah, I see why you might want some kind of shorthand.
00:20 - You know, I can't win.
00:22 TJ thinks I don't care about this baby enough.
00:24 And you think that I care about this baby too much.
00:27 So maybe the two of you should get together and settle on
00:30 exactly how much you think I should care about this baby.
00:33 And then you can let me know.
00:34 - Got it.
00:35 Promise.
00:36 Point taken.
00:37 I understand why you're frustrated.
00:40 There's been a lot of backseat pregnancy-ing here, right?
00:43 - Yeah, I am.
00:45 I am falling a little bit in love with this baby,
00:49 but how could I not?
00:50 It's a part of me.
00:51 And it's not like I did it on purpose.
00:53 It just happened.
00:55 And it's not a bad thing that this baby gets to feel love
00:59 before it's born.
01:00 - Another good point.
01:03 - So I don't know what everyone is freaking out about.
01:06 - The fact that you don't understand why everyone
01:10 is so concerned is cause for concern all by itself.
01:14 - I'm so excited that Miranda agreed to be my stylist.
01:19 - Well, it took a little convincing.
01:20 She didn't just volunteer.
01:21 - I know.
01:22 I appreciate everything you did to make it happen.
01:25 - Well, I feel like you were resisting a lot of her ideas
01:29 and she didn't show us anything that wasn't amazing.
01:31 - Yeah, but I want her to design my looks for my tour
01:37 and any public appearances.
01:38 But when it comes to my downtime,
01:40 I reserve the right to dress how I want.
01:42 - Honey, you don't have downtime.
01:44 Building a brand and maintaining it, that's a full-time job.
01:50 So I think you should talk to the union rep first
01:53 and then the lawyers.
01:54 - All right.
01:55 - Okay?
01:56 - And all this is on your to-do list for tomorrow?
01:58 As in just tomorrow and not the rest of the month?
02:02 - Well, it was gonna be a long day.
02:03 - Even though you're gonna be out of the office,
02:05 I have a feeling you're still gonna have a long day.
02:07 - Yes, almost certainly.
02:10 But at the end of that long day,
02:11 I will have checked out of the Metro Court
02:12 and into my own absolutely perfect apartment.
02:14 - You have managed to be clear-eyed and honest
02:20 about potential conflicts.
02:22 And you always do the right thing.
02:25 - Do I, though?
02:27 I mean, how many times have I erred on the side
02:29 of being a son versus being a cop?
02:31 - So you think resigning from the force
02:33 is the only way to reconcile your doubts?
02:36 - I think when I found out that Dex
02:38 was applying to Police Academy,
02:39 my first thought should have been,
02:40 yeah, this kid, maybe he'll make a decent cop.
02:42 Not, I wonder what he's got on my dad.
02:45 - See, you just did it.
02:47 One single fleeting thought into a rebuke
02:52 of your whole career.
02:53 - Okay, well, here's another thing.
02:55 You had to see the way these guys were treating Dex
02:57 at Chase's bachelor party.
02:59 It was bad.
03:00 I mean, Dex was just on Sonny's payroll.
03:03 I'm his blood.
03:03 - There's no comparison between the two of you.
03:06 You were a cop way before you found out
03:09 that Sonny was your father.
03:11 Dex knew exactly who Sonny was
03:13 when he chose to work for him.
03:16 - Look, cops care about proximity to people like Sonny.
03:20 I'm his son.
03:22 You don't get any closer than that.
03:23 I mean, I can't even imagine what they all must think
03:27 about me.
03:27 - I can imagine, because I was there
03:32 when every single one of them showed up
03:35 to donate blood when you were in the hospital.
03:38 You don't do that for someone you don't respect.
03:42 - Yeah, cops do that for the cops.
03:44 - You always do that.
03:46 - Carly shows up here like it's her home.
03:54 And then she tells me, "I can't see my own daughter
03:57 in my own home."
03:58 - Did something happen with Donna?
04:00 - Of course not.
04:01 But she wasn't talking to me like I was Donna's father.
04:03 She was talking down to me,
04:05 like I'm not taking my medication.
04:08 And then to top it off, she charges in the bathroom,
04:13 goes into the drawer to check herself
04:15 like she's still living here.
04:17 I gotta tell you, anybody else did that?
04:20 - Well, it doesn't- - Do you know what I would do?
04:21 - It doesn't sound like she's showing much respect.
04:23 - No. - For your privacy.
04:25 - She's not showing much respect.
04:27 The hell with that.
04:31 The hell with you, Carly Correntos.
04:34 - Don't you mean Carly Spencer?
04:39 (dramatic music)
04:42 (dramatic music)
04:45 (dramatic music)
04:48 (dramatic music)
04:50 (dramatic music)
04:53 (dramatic music)
04:56 (dramatic music)
04:59 - Out of everything I just said,
05:22 it was a slip of the tongue.
05:25 - Okay, that's it.
05:27 - It just shows though how hard Carly tries
05:33 to push your buttons.
05:35 She fails, of course, you're you, but she does try.
05:38 - I have a lot of experience with Carly.
05:41 She plays a lot of games, but you know what?
05:43 I play those games better.
05:45 - It's staggering how entitled she is.
05:48 She hasn't been your wife in years.
05:50 You'd never know that from the way she acted today.
05:52 And not just a wife, a doctor too, apparently.
05:56 - Well, you know what, to be fair,
05:58 nobody knows my condition and whether I'm off medication
06:03 more than Carly.
06:05 - Except you, obviously.
06:07 - Obviously, but you know what?
06:09 You know what really gets me upset
06:11 is when she came in and started saying
06:16 that I'm not remembering to take my medication.
06:18 Did I take my medication?
06:20 I mean, what am I, a child?
06:22 What is she thinking?
06:24 - She's not thinking, Sonny.
06:26 You've changed, but the way Carly sees you hasn't.
06:31 She doesn't know you anymore.
06:34 - You don't have to tell me.
06:36 - You have put up with more than enough today.
06:39 Why don't you sit down, okay, and relax?
06:44 - What I wanna do is I wanna go to the hospital
06:48 and get my blood drawn so they can test
06:52 the medication levels.
06:55 And I can throw my results
06:58 in Carly's face.
07:02 - Every time you walk out that door, I worry.
07:10 But I also know how much you love your work.
07:15 - Not anymore.
07:17 That was before I knew I was subconsciously
07:18 looking the other way for my father.
07:19 Now that I know that I'm doing that, I gotta stop.
07:23 - Are you, like, messing with me or just venting?
07:27 - No, I'm not messing with you.
07:29 I'm not venting.
07:30 I really mean this.
07:32 - I can't tell you how long I have waited
07:38 for you to say that you were ready to give up your badge.
07:45 - You had enough hotel living, huh?
07:47 - More than enough.
07:49 Living in hotels was a necessary evil
07:50 for a better part of my career.
07:52 You know, there were assignments
07:53 that just didn't make sense
07:55 to rent any kind of long-term residences
07:59 'cause you had to be up and out within a moment's notice.
08:01 But then, living in hotels just became
08:04 less of a convenience and more of a habit.
08:06 So it's a habit that I've decided to break
08:09 and use the space of my own.
08:10 Take that one.
08:11 - With respect, it sounds a little like
08:13 you're trying to talk yourself into it.
08:16 - Okay, well, let's just say
08:17 that I'm reinforcing my decision.
08:20 I've needed to do this for a while.
08:22 Yeah, but then a perfect apartment came up.
08:24 It's fully furnished and it's in an ideal location
08:26 and I signed the paperwork yesterday.
08:28 - Congratulations.
08:30 - Thank you, Calvin.
08:30 - Yeah. - Yeah.
08:32 I have everything I need all planned
08:34 and accounted for in my itinerary at 0800 hours tomorrow.
08:37 - That looks about right.
08:39 - I've got bungee cords and a hand truck
08:41 ready to take the files from storage
08:44 that I kept there since the fire at my old house.
08:47 I'm just grateful that God invented elevators.
08:51 - You're not using professional movers?
08:53 Unless you can't because they're sensitive stuff
08:56 in those files.
08:57 Gotcha.
08:58 - Yeah.
09:00 I've learned the hard way how valuable old records are.
09:03 Can't trust them to anyone except me.
09:06 - Do you remember how upset Molly was
09:10 when their first surrogate miscarriage?
09:12 She was devastated.
09:13 - And I will never forget seeing her face
09:16 at the park that day.
09:17 It broke my heart.
09:19 All I wanted to do was help her.
09:21 She's my sister.
09:22 It was her dream to have a baby
09:24 and I just wanted to help make that dream a reality
09:29 no matter what it took.
09:30 - And I love you for that and so does Molly.
09:32 - Yeah, she does when she and her partner
09:35 aren't questioning my every move.
09:37 - I'm sure they regret that you felt scrutinized.
09:41 I really do.
09:43 But we are family and we are really imperfect
09:47 but we love each other which is why we have
09:49 to give each other a lot of slack.
09:51 - You mean me?
09:55 I have to give them slack, that's what you mean?
09:57 - No.
09:58 - Yeah, it is.
09:59 Let me ask you something, Mom.
10:01 If Molly and TJ were using any surrogate other than me,
10:06 do you think they would be policing her like they are me
10:10 if she occasionally, accidentally let my baby
10:13 slip every once in a while?
10:15 - Hey, has your music manager,
10:19 has she said anything about the studio band's demo?
10:22 I mean, this is for your new single
10:25 so she must have some kind of feedback, right?
10:27 Okay, she's totally incommunicado until after the wedding?
10:31 - Why do you have such an attitude
10:33 when it comes to Brooklyn?
10:34 - I don't have an attitude but I do have questions
10:37 about her priorities thus far.
10:39 - There's nothing wrong with someone being more excited
10:41 about marriage than you were.
10:43 - The guitar solo in the new single, it's terrible.
10:48 I don't know what you were doing with all that studio time
10:50 but it clearly wasn't your job.
10:52 - Excuse me?
10:52 - No, the guitar, you should have shut it down,
10:55 shut down the whole session as soon as you heard it.
10:57 That single cannot be released like that until it's fixed.
11:01 - What, I was the only one who heard it
11:04 or was I just the only one who was listening?
11:06 - Well, go back in and redo it.
11:07 What other choice do we have?
11:09 Look, we're not gonna continue to pretend
11:12 like this current guitarist is anything better
11:14 than just barely mediocre.
11:17 This single is far too important.
11:20 You kidding, it's too important to use anybody
11:22 other than your brother.
11:24 - I knew this is where you were going for the last time,
11:26 mommy, you have to let Eloy live his own life
11:30 and let me live mine.
11:31 - Closed captioning of this program is brought to you
11:35 by the born performer, just like you.
11:37 - And he left the music business
11:39 and said he wants nothing more to do with it.
11:42 Any idea why?
11:43 - Yeah, because it's contrary.
11:44 But he, he just doesn't admit to himself
11:51 that that's where his heart lies.
11:52 But once he does--
11:53 - You know what, come running back,
11:56 ready to jump in the studio and make up for lost time.
11:58 - Yeah, you joke, but I know my son.
11:59 I know that music is the air he breathes.
12:03 And once I remind him of that, how many times?
12:06 And you wonder why Eloy wants out.
12:09 - Well, what about you, honey?
12:12 Do you want out too?
12:12 - No, I want to understand why I'm not enough.
12:15 I chose to have a career in music,
12:18 but it doesn't matter because Eloy's not involved
12:21 or headlining, which is what you really want.
12:23 - You're being ridiculous because you know
12:24 I love you both equally.
12:26 I just hate seeing talent like that go to waste.
12:29 - Yeah, well, his talent, his choice.
12:32 - You know, but as usual, when the subject of Eloy comes up,
12:36 I'm wasting my breath.
12:38 - Hey.
12:40 I gotta go, Ali's meeting for me at my place.
12:45 - Okay, well, give it my best.
12:47 - I will.
12:48 - You know, you are so generous and everybody knows it.
13:00 And I want you to know that Molly and TJ are just anxious.
13:04 You know, after everything they've been through,
13:06 they're just worried that this is gonna get snatched away
13:09 from them just like everything else before.
13:11 But you know who's not worried?
13:15 Babies.
13:17 Most of the time they come in happy and healthy,
13:22 and this baby will too.
13:23 And you will know that you brought this life
13:28 into the world without any agenda at all, but love.
13:32 And that's really cool.
13:36 - Thank you.
13:40 - You're welcome.
13:42 - Love you. - I love you.
13:45 - I can't tell you how many nights
13:56 I laid in bed and prayed
13:58 that you would come home and tell me you were done.
14:03 - We should have talked about this like a long time ago.
14:08 - I know.
14:09 You should have seen the looks,
14:12 the faces of all the officers and their husbands
14:18 and their wives, 'cause they were all there.
14:21 I mean, they were devastated, of course.
14:26 But I could tell that they felt guilty
14:29 and relieved
14:32 because fate had made its choice that night
14:38 and it wasn't them.
14:39 - Yeah, cops are pretty superstitious.
14:45 - I know.
14:46 They live with one.
14:50 And I love this one.
14:54 - So if you were to tell me that you were ready
14:57 to give up your badge, I wouldn't pretend to be anything,
15:00 but grateful.
15:03 - If you think it's worth the trouble
15:11 of having a blood test to reassure Carly,
15:13 then I think you should do it.
15:15 - Why waste my time when the results come back?
15:19 You know, are they gonna be normal?
15:21 She's just gonna judge me on something else.
15:24 - Very likely.
15:25 And it's probably a bad precedent to set,
15:30 letting Carly think that you need her approval
15:33 on how you maintain your medication,
15:34 that you need her approval about anything for that matter.
15:37 - I don't need Carly's approval.
15:39 She doesn't care about me.
15:41 She's probably with Jason right now.
15:43 I tell you what, if it wasn't for Donna,
15:45 I wouldn't speak to her again.
15:46 You know what?
15:47 I gotta cool off.
15:49 I gotta go.
15:50 - Why don't I come with you?
15:52 - No. - Okay?
15:53 - No.
15:54 I need some time alone.
15:55 (dramatic music)
16:07 - The only thing I found in this book
16:17 was a recipe for graham cracker crust
16:19 that somebody shoved in here.
16:21 - I've never been partial to a graham cracker crust.
16:24 All these books, there isn't one case
16:26 where the court has vacated a disbarment.
16:29 Not since my disbarment, anyway.
16:31 - I managed to dig up some transcripts,
16:34 some declarative judgments
16:35 that can at least point us in the direction
16:37 of what not to argue.
16:38 - I guess it's better than finding out the hard way.
16:41 - So far, it's just been the only way.
16:43 Look, we knew this case was probably doomed
16:46 from the onset.
16:48 - We knew no such thing, and we still don't.
16:51 - Look, if you just want to give up,
16:53 well then by all means, go find your kitchen,
16:57 wherever it is,
16:58 and make that hideous graham cracker crust recipe.
17:01 - I know where my kitchen is.
17:02 It's where I keep the aspirin.
17:04 And I have been working on this night and day,
17:06 this Don Quixote of a case, and you know what?
17:10 I may have a legal crisis under my own roof.
17:13 And if this one explodes,
17:14 it's gonna shred my entire family.
17:20 - Hi.
17:21 - What do you think?
17:22 - Oh, I like it.
17:24 I do.
17:25 It's a bit much though for movie night and takeout,
17:29 but whatever you're comfortable in.
17:32 What I do really like though,
17:33 is that you finally used the key I gave you.
17:35 - It seemed safer coming here than the alternative.
17:38 - Which was?
17:39 - Strangling my mom in the park in broad daylight.
17:42 - Oh.
17:43 - Although anyone who's ever met her
17:43 might buy my insanity defense.
17:46 - I know the feeling.
17:48 No one really makes you as nuts as your own mother, right?
17:51 - Oh.
18:01 (laughing)
18:02 - No, I didn't.
18:03 (laughing)
18:04 I didn't mean to scare you.
18:05 I mean, you and your bags are safe.
18:07 I don't think there's anything in your bags
18:09 that would fit me anyway.
18:10 - No, and you don't need help with your clothes either.
18:13 I've only seen you a few times, but.
18:14 - You approve?
18:17 - I do.
18:18 - Thank you.
18:18 (laughing)
18:19 - And you did me a favor, 'cause I was just sitting here,
18:23 you know, stuck in my thoughts,
18:25 letting time slip away from me.
18:27 - It's nice of you to give me a pass,
18:28 but it's not polite to sneak up on people.
18:31 - You made it forth.
18:32 - Appreciate that.
18:34 - It is such a beautiful day.
18:38 I'm feeling a little selfish, hogging up this bench.
18:40 Care to join me?
18:41 - Yeah, yeah, I'd like that very much.
18:46 (gentle music)
18:49 (knocking)
18:58 - Yeah?
19:00 Oh, hi.
19:01 What are you doing here?
19:02 I thought you were off duty.
19:03 - Yeah, I am.
19:04 I just wanted to drop something off.
19:04 - Well, come in, come in, sit down.
19:06 It's nice to see you.
19:07 Submitting a report?
19:14 - No, this is, this is my resignation.
19:19 - Every morning is a chance to start fresh
19:26 with Wendy's new sausage bacon.
19:27 - You were just in hospital, you were shot.
19:31 I mean, it's understandable that you might-
19:32 - Yeah, it's not just the fact that I was shot
19:35 and almost died.
19:37 Although that played a part in it for me and for Sam,
19:44 but not the biggest part.
19:46 - Oh, what, what is it?
19:47 - Sonny stopped by my place today
19:50 and we got to talking about father-son stuff
19:54 and then he mentioned Dex Heller.
19:57 - In what context?
19:58 - In the context that other cops,
20:02 maybe even you, will believe what Dex has to say
20:06 about Sonny's business, but not me.
20:08 Not me, 'cause I would know better.
20:13 - Where did you take that to mean?
20:15 - Well, to mean that he doesn't think
20:18 that we should believe anything that Dex is gonna say
20:20 about his business.
20:21 - Did Sonny ask you to do anything else
20:24 other than not believe whatever Dex might say?
20:25 - No, not immediately, but it's not gonna be the end of it.
20:29 For Sonny, he's gonna come back
20:30 and then he's gonna ask what Dex said.
20:32 - Seeming you would have access to whatever Dex disclosed.
20:37 If Sonny asked, would you tell him?
20:40 - Not a chance.
20:43 (sighs)
20:45 But Sonny laying this groundwork like this is,
20:48 I don't know, it's just,
20:51 this line has gotten really blurry,
20:55 you know, between what I do as a cop
20:57 and what I do as a son,
20:59 and, you know, I always try to build this wall
21:02 between certain parts of our lives, you know,
21:07 and Sonny was on one side and I was on the other side
21:08 and we could coexist.
21:10 - Yeah, I mean, that's seemed to been working in the past.
21:13 - Yeah, but, you know, then what you said
21:15 at Chase's bachelor party really kind of hit home for me.
21:18 And,
21:19 I have thought about what Dex working for the PCPD
21:27 could mean for a father.
21:29 Information that he could pass on,
21:32 and I hate that that thought crossed my mind.
21:37 - You're being really hard on yourself.
21:40 I mean, aside from your remarkable recovery just now,
21:43 you're only human.
21:45 - Yeah, but I'm a cop.
21:46 - Yeah, you're a damn fine one too.
21:49 And worrying about something isn't the same
21:51 as intervening or interfering or sharing intel.
21:55 - No.
21:57 But to me, it sure feels like a betrayal
22:00 of everything that this badge stands for.
22:03 So,
22:05 it's gotta end.
22:09 - Tonight.
22:10 - Can I ask you what has you stuck in your own thoughts?
22:17 - Yeah, it's my daughter.
22:20 - I have more than one, so I'm stuck in my thoughts a lot.
22:24 (laughing)
22:26 - Man, I just have one and that one's a full-time job.
22:28 And a thankless one a lot of times.
22:31 - I know what that's about.
22:32 - You didn't have an argument with Christina, did you?
22:37 - No, I get along great with Christina.
22:39 I can't say the same about my ex.
22:41 - Nothing worse than a fight with your ex
22:44 because you loved each other once
22:46 so they know what will hurt you
22:48 and exactly where to aim it.
22:50 - My ex and I share the same daughter
22:53 that I was talking about earlier.
22:55 My daughter's young, so she still likes me.
23:00 (laughing)
23:01 - Enjoy that while you can.
23:03 - But the other thing is that,
23:05 (dramatic music)
23:08 I'm bipolar.
23:11 So my ex was instrumental in getting me
23:17 diagnosed and recovery.
23:23 - Okay, so she's, she's not all bad.
23:28 - Well, that was then.
23:31 Now she's using it against me.
23:36 - Molly and TJ have been nudging Christina
23:39 about what she eats, where she sleeps,
23:42 how worked up she gets.
23:44 - Well, surrogacy can be challenging for everyone involved,
23:48 even when everyone's being respectful and well-behaved.
23:50 But all Molly and TJ have to do is watch it and wait
23:55 and they are both very bad at it.
23:57 On the other hand, for the most part,
24:00 Christina's doing everything a pregnant woman should do.
24:03 - Uh-huh, what's the other lesser part been up to?
24:06 Thinking that the baby is hers?
24:09 - Well, I've had some experience with surrogacy,
24:15 just from the legal side.
24:16 And I know that whoever is carrying the child
24:20 experiences a wide assortment of emotions,
24:24 not the least of which is possessiveness.
24:27 - Yeah, otherwise she might as well be an incubator
24:29 or a test tube.
24:31 - But what Christina is feeling is different?
24:33 - She said she was kind of falling a little in love
24:40 with the baby and that when it kicks,
24:43 she goes, "That's my little kicker."
24:45 It's not what she says, it's the energy behind it.
24:51 And it's problematic for the role that she has.
24:54 - Okay, has anyone, for instance, you,
24:57 broached the subject with her?
24:59 - Yes, and she got mad.
25:02 - Well, that's also understandable.
25:03 - It's understandable for now, but as this evolves,
25:07 we'll see what happens because it could be
25:10 disastrous for my family.
25:11 - Could be, doesn't necessarily need to be.
25:14 - But Christina did supply the egg.
25:19 It's not a third party donor.
25:20 Therefore, in the eyes of the state of New York,
25:23 the baby is legally Christina's.
25:25 - Do you feel like ordering?
25:28 (knocking)
25:29 - I'll get it.
25:30 - Thank you.
25:31 - Blaze, hi, I didn't know that you were gonna be here.
25:37 I can come back if it's--
25:38 - No, please, come on in.
25:40 We were just actually about to have dinner.
25:43 You should join us.
25:44 We're having a meal of organic kale washed 10 times by nuns
25:48 with a side of polyunsaturated yogurt.
25:50 Sound good?
25:51 - That is exactly why I did something I almost never do.
25:56 Just walked out of the office in the middle of the afternoon.
25:59 I had to see you.
26:02 I hate the way we left things this morning.
26:04 (dramatic music)
26:07 - Sometimes you wanna--
26:08 - Talk to TJ.
26:10 - Really?
26:11 - Yes, really.
26:12 I told him that micromanaging every aspect of your life
26:15 is out of line and it has to stop.
26:18 - You said that to him?
26:20 - I did.
26:21 I mean, telling you what to eat, when to sleep,
26:23 it's not okay.
26:25 I'm a total control freak and even I would hate that.
26:27 - Thank you.
26:29 - You're welcome.
26:31 You're my sister, not an anonymous egg donor.
26:35 I love you and I trust you.
26:37 - Is there any chance you can have some version
26:40 of this conversation with my mom?
26:42 - Yeah, sure.
26:44 Could it wait till tomorrow, though?
26:46 I took the rest of the afternoon off
26:48 and I think I might do something crazy
26:50 and see if TJ can get the afternoon off.
26:52 Maybe go for a drink or see a movie.
26:55 - Wow.
26:56 - I know.
26:57 - I appreciate you talking to TJ.
27:00 Just so I'm clear, does this mean
27:03 I don't have to disown my dad?
27:05 - It's really brave of you to be so open
27:09 about your bipolar disorder.
27:11 I mean, I don't really know you
27:13 and yet I really wouldn't have expected anything less.
27:17 - I appreciate that.
27:20 I know how important it is to stay on your medication.
27:23 But now my ex has reached a point
27:26 where she doesn't give me the benefit
27:29 of the doubt about anything.
27:32 - Does she give you a reason?
27:33 - No, just excuses.
27:37 - Those are two very different things.
27:39 - You know, this is a really great bench,
27:46 but it doesn't really offer any refreshments.
27:49 - None.
27:50 (laughing)
27:52 - You wanna go have a drink with me?
27:56 - Yeah, I would be delighted.
27:58 Think I'm getting the better part of that deal.
28:01 - No.
28:01 - I wasn't there for Robin
28:03 at a very crucial part in her life.
28:06 And Sonny was.
28:07 She depended on him and he was there for her.
28:12 And I think that my gratitude for that
28:14 morphed into a kind of bias,
28:17 always in his favor, no matter the circumstances.
28:20 And I don't think I realized quite how much.
28:22 But whatever debt I felt I owed your father,
28:27 I think now is paid in full.
28:30 And I guess that I was waiting
28:35 for you to come to the same conclusion.
28:38 - I don't know that I'm there yet.
28:42 So you see why I have to resign.
28:45 - And then what?
28:47 And what do you mean?
28:48 - Well, you know when one day when Sonny comes to your door
28:51 and he needs a favor, without that badge,
28:55 how do you justify refusing your father?
28:57 How do you make sure that you and your family
29:00 don't just get dragged into his orbit?
29:03 - Well, I'm a grown man, Anna.
29:05 I've set boundaries and he respects--
29:06 - Oh, boundaries, oh yeah, no, come on.
29:08 After a while, they become blurry, boundaries.
29:12 Especially in families.
29:14 I mean, you couldn't move.

29:20 - And so are yours.
29:21 Your life is here.
29:22 You didn't use this badge to protect Sonny.
29:27 This badge protected you from him

31:54 It's just another one of the reasons why I love you.
32:04 - Does Christina at least have contract with Molly and TJ?

32:09 that this would never hold up in court.
32:11 - You're right, it won't.
32:12 - You know what?
32:16 I'm probably overreacting.
32:18 This is probably just hormonal and natural during pregnancy.
32:20 And when this is all said and done,
32:22 the haze will lift and she will be thinking clearly.
32:26 - It's possible.
32:27 - Very unlikely that this will come down to a point of law
32:30 and I'm worrying for no reason
32:32 other than I'm very, very good at it.
32:34 - Oh, honey, when it comes to worrying, you are peerless.
32:37 However, I would be a sorry excuse for a best friend
32:40 if I did not give you some advice.
32:42 Now on one hand, I've never been through anything like this,
32:48 but on the other hand, not being personally invested
32:51 gives me some objectivity.
32:54 And that's what you need right now, objectivity.
32:57 - Go ahead, I'm braced.
32:59 - Stay out of it.
33:01 If your daughters want legal opinions,
33:03 send them to other lawyers
33:05 because the worst case scenario is
33:10 you could cause one of your daughters to lose a child.

33:15 - I don't know what the hell I'm supposed to do.
33:20 - Just do what you've been doing.
33:22 Look, if you see a file with Sonny's name on it, ignore it.
33:25 If you're in the squad room and they mentioned him,

33:28 If something crosses your desk pertaining to your father,
33:31 then you notify me and I will reassign it.
33:34 - Yeah.
33:37 - Okay, well then maybe we need to look beyond that
33:41 to other situations that might relate to Sonny.
33:44 So if a case, an incident, even a rumor
33:50 sounds like it might lead back to your father,
33:53 then you have to tell me.
33:54 And if events are moving too fast,
33:56 you hand it off to Chase or Bennett or the desk sergeant.
