00:00 So let's go and let's start with some of the obvious.
00:05 Tariq Scouble, Corbin Burns.
00:07 Let's start there.
00:08 Hey, the Black Book's going to high school next year.
00:10 I mean, it's very exciting.
00:11 There you go.
00:12 Turn 14.
00:13 Big deal.
00:14 Yeah, let's start here with Sun Yung and obviously the favorites right now.
00:18 Not a surprising group, but maybe just one that we look at and say, yeah, you know what?
00:23 Maybe we should have bought in a little bit more.
00:24 Tariq Scouble is actually at the top of the American League Cy Young board and deservedly
00:28 so.
00:29 Last year, he was incredible over the final 100 innings that he did pitch.
00:32 Now that was the problem because he did not put in a complete season.
00:36 So I think myself, like a lot of other people in the community, were a little bit worried
00:39 about, OK, can this guy hold up here over 32 starts?
00:43 Can he truly be the ace?
00:45 And will the Tigers hold him back at all?
00:48 Because, well, offensively, the Tigers tend to hold people back.
00:51 But at plus 310, he has gone now ahead of Corbin Burns over on bettingpros.com and the
00:57 consensus line.
00:58 So that's a big deal because Burns was the strong early opener.
01:00 Now, Burns pitches for the better team in the Baltimore Orioles.
01:04 That's going to win a lot more games.
01:05 It's going to, at the end of the day, be a lot more of the public conversation.
01:09 So this comes down to, again, the environment of the voter.
01:13 It's a media award, right?
01:15 Baltimore is a much more public team than the Tigers.
01:17 Will people really give Tariq Scouble his due?
01:20 Perhaps, but then again, perhaps not.
01:22 However, it's hard to ignore the 172 ERA, the .74 whip.
01:26 36 innings, 41 strikeouts, just six walks for Scouble.
01:29 So I get it.
01:31 Statistically speaking, Scouble should be ahead.
01:33 And perhaps as the voting body continues to turn over over the years, wins don't mean
01:39 as much.
01:40 I think people in the younger generation who now have an opportunity to vote for these
01:44 awards in the media, they have a better idea of what the metrics are that matter in terms
01:48 of how good of a pitcher you are.
01:49 But I will say this, Scouble deserves to be at the top.
01:52 I don't know how long he's going to stay there.
01:54 A few good starts from Corbin Burns will put him probably right above Scouble.
01:57 It's a fascinating race at the top.
01:59 However, I do think there's some other guys that are going to get involved in it sooner
02:02 than later in the American League again.
02:04 And some of the names are the same guys we talked about in February and March on this
02:08 show.
02:09 Now, one thing I would like to interject is that Garrett Cole is ramping up.
02:13 And once Garrett Cole comes back into this conversation, to Joe's point, the Yankees
02:17 become the public team.
02:18 Garrett Cole becomes the apple of the eye of the voters, if you will.
02:23 So keep that in mind.
