00:23In Ecuador, early polls show President Anel Dobua's proposals on Sunday's referendum
00:28In Israel, Major Intelligence Chief Aharon Haleva resigned due to his responsibility
00:36in the regime's failure before the Palestinian resistance operation al-Aqsa flood.
00:46Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Resus studios
00:50in Havana, Cuba.
00:51We begin with the news.
00:52In Venezuela, people participating in the Great National Consultation called Communes
00:56can do more, with the objective of defining popular projects for the communities.
01:0215,617 voting centers were set up in the 23 states of the South American nation for this
01:07day of voting.
01:09In this consultation, called by President Nicolás Maduro, all Venezuelan men and women
01:14over 15 years of age participated.
01:16The citizens chose among nearly 23,000 social projects proposed by the more than 4,500 communes
01:22located in the national territory.
01:25These projects are aimed at sectors such as health, education, food, security, environment,
01:30public services and economy, and the elected ones will be financed by the government and
01:33executed by the organized communities themselves.
01:44In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro congratulated the citizens and community councils at the
01:49national level highlighting the popular consultation as a historic milestone in the country.
01:59Truly, we must multiply this experience, make it a permanent practice, and make it a daily
02:05practice.
02:07It is the daily democracy.
02:09A true democracy is the one that trusts in the people, the one that gives them the voice,
02:14the word, the right to decide their affairs as neighbors.
02:19I congratulate all the community councils, the 4,500 community circuits.
02:25What a beautiful people.
02:27What a beautiful democracy.
02:29What a freedom so well earned and so well defended.
02:32A beautiful day, a truly historic milestone.
02:39International observers accompanied the process of popular consultation on community's projects.
02:43Correspondent Glais Casada provides us more details on the experience.
02:49On Sunday, more than 200 international observers gathered in Venezuela to accompany the popular
02:56consultation on communes.
02:58They came to see how the people are being asked about their specific needs and to allow
03:04solutions to be found from there.
03:07Many come from progressive social movements and consider this process as a possible path.
03:14I found this process so far already, learning about it, very inspirational.
03:18I'd like to bring back that feeling of inspiration and struggle from Venezuela back to Australia.
03:24In their trip to Caracas, the observers had the opportunity to learn how each commune
03:29in assemblies and grassroots discussions identified their most pressing problems, improving water
03:36and electricity services, repairing common infrastructure, watching over the state of
03:42the highways and the roads, concerns that are not far from their own.
03:48For others, it is an experience that they hope will be replicated at home.
03:54The people participation in the decision making of the various projects in the community,
04:01that is something very impressive, like the people decide and vote which projects they
04:07want the government to fund.
04:09That's something I've not seen anywhere else, so it's something very nice.
04:16In their goal of taking part in the consultation, many of them took route to the hills in Antimano.
04:23There they learned about communal strategies like a social dining room that feeds the most
04:29vulnerable or a textile workshop that makes and provides free of charge school clothes.
04:36Many take with them the impression of a process as wide and complex as this one.
04:41Others understand that more about popular power and some take another values.
04:47Hugo Chavez to start to reorganize political social processes in Venezuela many years ago
04:55and now Nicolas Maduro to continue this process in Venezuela.
05:02So I think it will be a very good experience, personal experience, and of course for future processes too.
05:12From the consultation will come out winning projects that aim to improve the life of Venezuelans
05:18from their own decision under the premise that popular power is possible.
05:23Clarice Quezada, Chalazur, Caracas, Venezuela.
05:29In Ecuador, proposals of President Alemdo Boa according to the numbers out of the poll
05:33stations lose on the central questions of his referendum.
05:36Let's remember that the referendum has the goal of approving or rejecting popular consultation
05:41initiatives promoted by the executive on security, labor and international arbitration issues.
05:46The first results show that citizens rejected by a wide margin proposals to recognize international
05:51arbitration for investment disputes and to introduce fixed-term and hourly employment contracts.
05:57Both of the proposals were on the spotlight of Boa's administration.
06:00Earlier, Diana Atamain, head of the National Electoral Council, declared that at the end of the day,
06:0678 percent of citizens participate in the electoral exercise.
06:15Let's go now with our correspondent in Ecuador, Elena Rodriguez, for more details on Sunday's
06:19setback for Noboa's government.
06:21Hello, it is a joy to greet you.
06:27Greetings also to our audience in Latin America and the world.
06:32That's right, a strong political setback suffered the president of this country, Daniel Noboa,
06:38when facing the result of the popular consultation and the referendum where the core part, the
06:42heart, was rejected by the Ecuadorian people.
06:47I am referring to questions D and E, related to the hourly and fixed-term contract, and
06:52also the international arbitration, which in its majority, Ecuadorians voted no.
06:59According to the count made by the National Electoral Council, even though the results
07:03have not yet been made official, more than 60 percent of Ecuadorians, according to the
07:07counted votes, showed their position of rejection to this position, to this plan developed by
07:12President Daniel Noboa.
07:16We must say that political, social, trade union, progressive, leftist, students, indigenous
07:23movements, registered with the National Electoral Council to carry forward the proposal for
07:27the no in these questions, D and E, considered as the core, considered as the heart of this
07:33referendum.
07:36According to experts, the rest of the proposals, the other questions that were raised for this
07:40popular consultation were considered as a hook, as filler, to carry out this consultation
07:45that was promoted by the executive branch.
07:49So much so, that President Daniel Noboa did not go out to give statements to the press.
07:55It was foreseen that in a press conference he would issue his position at 4 p.m. yesterday,
08:02Sunday.
08:04Then that time was moved to 5 p.m.
08:06It was the Secretary of Communication, Robert Isurrieta who went out to the press and said
08:10that the President was with his family, and that he would express his position once the
08:14official results were released.
08:18Later the President published through his social medias a picture with his team, with
08:22his cabinet in which he looked happy, and like the winning team, he said.
08:28However, many analysts and experts consider that this is a political setback, and a strong
08:33message of rejection by the Ecuadorian people to the government of Daniel Noboa.
08:39We will be looking forward to the reactions that arise throughout this day and that will
08:44put in context what will happen in the future.
08:48In Colombia, right-wing sectors rallied against President Gustavo Pecho in several cities
08:52of the country.
08:53This Sunday ended as a typical day, having no complaints of violence or repression.
08:59Demonstrators mobilized to show their disagreement with the social reforms promoted by the government
09:03of the historic pact.
09:04On these protests, there were heard expressions of discontent and even live-breaking messages
09:10to the President, which Pecho denounced.
09:12Notwithstanding, on May 1st, a new march has been called for backing up the government.
09:31In view of this situation, President Gustavo Pecho posted on X that rallies against the
09:35government had around 250,000 protesters across the country.
09:40Votes prevailed in the following order, Medellín, Bogotá and Bucaramanga.
09:44Meanwhile, regarding the rest of the 18 cities, demonstrations have been weak.
09:49Likewise, Pecho underscored it is not about splitting the country up as it is already
09:54divided, it is about the population's voices be sounded off.
09:58In the face of these different voices, the government will find ways of understanding.
10:01However, if the right-wing wants to circumvent the elections and disrespect the people's
10:06vote, there will be no understanding.
10:08The national pact is for the future and not for the past.

12:28by Israel in Gaza have been children and women.
12:37The baby has been treated since yesterday until now.
12:40We can say that there is some progress in her state of health, but the situation is
12:44still at risk.
12:45This respiratory distress syndrome is originally caused by a premature birth.
12:49This child should have been in her mother's womb at that time, but she was deprived of
12:53this right.

13:14profit from the Israeli military action in Gaza.

13:43left the southern city of Hanounis.
13:46Civil defense officials said the bodies, mostly women and children, were found in a mass grave
13:50near the Nasser Hospital, and it is presumed they were victims of massacres perpetrated
13:55by Israeli troops.
13:56The agency said that so far 2,000 Palestinians have been reported missing, who may have been
14:01killed and buried or kidnapped by the occupation.

14:0976,000 wounded, while thousands of victims still remain on the rubble.
14:18The Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, attacked the Israeli settlement of Shomera
14:22in response to the attacks perpetrated by the occupation army against villages and civilian
14:26homes in southern Lebanon.
14:28In a statement, the movement confirmed that it had attacked a building used by Israeli
14:32uniformed forces in the occupied Lebanese town of Tarbika.
14:35The resistance fighters further reported the destruction of newly installed surveillance
14:40equipment around the Dawif barracks, as well as the firing of heavy Berkan rockets towards
14:45an Israeli soldier's position south of the military site.

17:08Since last year, the rain and the water levels have been rising here.
17:11Little by little, the land is getting waterlogged.
17:14Now, it has reached this level and we have never seen it this bad.
17:18It's terrible.
17:19It's the first time I've seen it like this in my lifetime.
