A fairly dry evening with a few light showers across Scotland and south east England. Cloud builds in across the country from the North through the evening, bringing rain to northern parts of Scotland. Eastern England, Northern Ireland and western Scotland have the best of the clear skies overnight, and into Sunday morning.– This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 20/04/24. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Ellie Glaisyer.

00:00 Hello, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. High pressure is sticking
00:05 around as we head through the rest of the weekend situated across the UK, bringing us
00:09 those more settled conditions than we've seen over the recent weeks. However, low pressure
00:13 never remains too far away out towards the north and it's these frontal systems towards
00:17 the north that will slowly sink their way southwards through the rest of the weekend
00:21 and into the start of the new week, bringing some outbreaks of rain and some cloudier skies
00:25 for many of us. Back to the rest of Saturday though and there is some cloudier skies
00:29 out there at the moment, particularly across eastern parts of Scotland with some rain arriving
00:33 in the north overnight tonight and into the start of Sunday. Southern and eastern parts
00:38 of Scotland, Northern Ireland and western parts of Scotland perhaps are holding on to
00:42 some clearer skies and some drier conditions overnight. And with those light winds we are
00:46 likely to see quite a chilly night ahead under those clear skies, perhaps some frost in places.
00:52 Not quite as cold under all that cloud and rain though, with temperatures dropping down
00:56 into the high single figures for many places. So for northern and eastern parts of Scotland
01:01 it will be a bit of a cloudy and damp start to the day. The outbreaks of rain that we
01:05 see through the morning slowly spread their way southwards through the rest of Sunday
01:09 and into the afternoon. But for southern and eastern parts of England it will be a dry
01:12 and bright start to the day, plenty of sunshine around and generally staying dry for much
01:16 of the day, so a good day for those running the London Marathon. Northern Ireland and
01:20 western parts of Scotland also holding on to some sunshine and feeling pleasant in that
01:24 sunshine for many of us. We could see highs in the south of 14, 15, maybe 16 degrees,
01:29 but a slight north-easterly breeze across eastern areas perhaps taking the edge off
01:32 those temperatures. Not quite as cold as well under all that cloud and rain, some North
01:37 Sea coastal areas struggling to reach into the double figures. With all that sunshine
01:41 around, UV levels will be quite high over the next couple of days, so do take care if
01:46 you are out and about, particularly for those running the London Marathon. Through the rest
01:50 of Sunday we see that cloud and rain continuing to spread its way south and eastwards overnight
01:55 and into the start of Monday. Southern parts of England and Wales holding on to some of
01:59 those clearest skies for a time but eventually turning cloudier, particularly across parts
02:03 of Wales and south-west England, and those outbreaks of rain continuing to spread southwards
02:07 overnight. South-eastern parts of England holding on to the clearest skies and it's
02:11 under those clearest skies again, we could see some patchy frost in places, temperatures
02:15 dropping down into the low single figures here, but again not quite as cold under all
02:18 that cloud and rain, and parts of Scotland again holding up into the high single figures.
02:24 That does mean that Monday is a bit of a cloudier start for many of us. Outbreaks of rain continue
02:29 to spread their way southwards, not turning particularly heavy, but it will be a very
02:32 grey and damp day here. Southern and eastern parts of England holding on to that sunshine
02:37 for a time but eventually turning cloudier into the afternoon, and the breeze picking
02:41 up a little, particularly further north. Not quite as warm again in the south under all
02:45 that cloud and rain, struggling to reach much above 11 or 12 degrees, but for parts of Scotland
02:50 perhaps feeling a little bit warmer, highs of 14, 15, maybe 16 degrees, so warmer than
02:54 we saw here over the weekend. That rain eventually clears its way southwards through the rest
02:59 of Monday but then there will be plenty of showers around through Tuesday and Wednesday.
03:03 However, temperatures are slowly recovering closer to average. Be sure to subscribe to
03:07 our YouTube channel though so you can find out more about that closer to the time. Bye
03:11 bye.
