00:00Hello, there. Welcome to your latest weather update from The Met. As we go through the
00:04next few days, a change is in store. We finally say goodbye to the mist and murk as the area
00:10of high pressure moves away. That gets replaced by areas of low pressure as we move towards
00:15the New Year period. Some of these areas of low pressure will be fairly deep, so we could
00:19see some wet and very windy weather from time to time. So, we are keeping a very close eye
00:24on the New Year period and keep you up to date as we go through the next few days.
00:29Back to the here and now, we are still maintaining the murky skies across many parts of England
00:34and Wales, some mist and fog around, so some fairly poor travelling conditions in places.
00:39The cloud may well break to the east of high ground from time to time, allowing some brief
00:43glimmers of sunshine, but a fairly overcast afternoon for many parts of England and Wales.
00:48So, the North Scotland, Northern Ireland, we are seeing this weak cold front move through,
00:53so some bits and pieces of rain and then to the north of that, some clearer skies moving
00:58into the evening, so some late sunshine for parts of Scotland, but also the risk of a
01:02few showers. Under the cloud, a rather cold feeling day, temperatures really struggling,
01:07potentially only up to 4 to 6 degrees in a few spots, but where we do see some bright
01:11skies across the north, could see highs reaching 10 or 11 degrees. Into the evening, this cold
01:18front continues to sink its way a little bit further southward, so it will start to improve
01:23visibilities across parts of Northern England and North Wales, but to the south of it, another
01:28murky night to come, so again, if you've got any travelling plans as we go through the
01:32next 24 hours, do allow some extra time for your journeys. And then to the north of it,
01:36another band of rain then begins to move in across parts of Scotland, accompanied by a
01:41strengthening wind here too. But for all of us, not a cold night by any means, temperatures
01:46not much lower than around 3 to 5 degrees. So, we do start Sunday off on another murky
01:52note across many parts of England and Wales, but I'm hopeful as the day goes on, brighter
01:57skies developing across many parts, but especially so for parts of Wales, the Midlands and East
02:03Anglia. It may well take its time across the very far south-eastern corner, but even here,
02:08I think come the afternoon, it should be feeling much brighter. For other overcasts, come the
02:13afternoon for Northern Ireland and Northern England, and that's ahead of this band of
02:16rain, which will really park itself up across parts of Scotland, and some colder air starting
02:22to tap in here too, so that may well start to turn to snow across the higher ground here.
02:27But for most of us, with a little bit more brightness around, feeling less cold, could
02:31see highs reaching 10 to 12 degrees in a few spots. And then looking ahead towards the
02:36New Year period, unfortunately it looks like it's going to be an unsettled start to 2025.
02:42Areas of low pressure moving in. Some of these could potentially bring some wet and very
02:45windy weather from time to time, so we are keeping a close eye on things. And with colder
02:50air also close by, we could see the risk of some snow, especially across the north.
02:55So if you do have any travel plans over the New Year period, stay up to date with the
02:59latest warnings on our website. You can also check out your local forecast there too. But
03:04from me for now, take care and I'll see you again soon.
