00:00 Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:06 Wind and rain over the next 24 hours across the northern half of the UK, mild for many
00:11 before the air turns colder from the north west.
00:14 The wind will be a real feature of the weather through Thursday with gales across the far
00:18 north as this rain which will be persistent towards the west fades away as it extends
00:24 down towards southern areas through the latter part of Thursday and into Friday.
00:29 For the time being, Wednesday evening, watch out for some showery bursts across the Midlands,
00:34 East Anglia.
00:35 It will tend to clear down towards the south east but murky conditions overnight even with
00:39 some fog patches.
00:40 Watch out for an early frost, localised frost at that, across Scotland before the cloud
00:44 thickens across western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:48 Rain after midnight here which will become persistent through the early hours of the
00:51 morning as those winds pick up and we could even see gale force winds across the far north
00:55 west.
00:56 A chilly start to the day across eastern parts of Scotland even further south.
01:00 We could see temperatures a bit lower than what they have been, even so, despite the
01:04 murk across more southern areas, the cloud will break allowing for some brighter weather
01:08 through the morning into the afternoon.
01:10 A wet and windy start across northern and western Scotland, even some rain just extending
01:15 towards Aberdeenshire through the morning.
01:18 Some heavier pulses of rain for Northern Ireland will extend across the Isle of Man to Cumbria
01:23 as we head through Thursday morning and even a little rain further south for the likes
01:27 of Lancashire, Liverpool Bay for a time and then Northumberland, Tyne and Wear.
01:32 But things will tend to dry up here, certainly some brighter skies further south as that
01:36 rain slips down towards southern Scotland as well as Northern Ireland and Northern England
01:41 through the afternoon.
01:42 This is the cold front and this cold front has with it some strong winds associated with
01:47 it, certainly towards the far north west.
01:49 A blustery end to the day with some strong gusts in excess of 55mph across the far north
01:54 and also those showers.
01:56 Through Friday you can see the rain just clearing towards the low countries, strong winds across
02:02 the north there, cold air, you'll notice the difference particularly in that strong wind
02:07 and frequent showers which will be wintry above around 400m across the north.
02:13 This low pressure system then moves down towards the North Sea through Sunday so fewer showers
02:18 towards the west to end the weekend but still some showery bursts further east.
02:23 So let's take a look at the detail on Thursday evening.
02:26 Here's that cold front, as you can see it clears Northern Ireland through the latter
02:30 part of the evening as well as southern Scotland.
02:33 But a wet evening to come across Northern England as well as Wales.
02:37 The rain comes and goes as the cloud thickens ahead of it.
02:40 These showers will be frequent across Scotland as well as Northern Ireland, particularly
02:44 towards the west and again strong and blustery winds here, gusty over the highlands with
02:51 some clearer skies and temperatures dipping down to around 2-5 degrees Celsius across
02:55 Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:57 We hang on to around 8-9-10 across much of England and Wales but a bit of a chilly start
03:02 to the day with some clear skies across Northumberland, Cumbria, Lancashire, North Yorkshire.
03:07 Through the morning some brighter weather emerges across Wales as well as Northern England.
03:11 We hang on to that cloud and some rain across southern counties and those showers will be
03:16 relentless across the north with the risk of thunder as well as hail, snow as I said
03:20 above around 400 metres.
03:22 A few showers extend down towards Northern England as we head through the afternoon.
03:26 Some brighter skies still coming through but the winds will be very strong across the far
03:30 north of Scotland and temperatures struggling only 6-7-8 degrees Celsius for Scotland through
03:35 the afternoon on Friday.
03:37 8-9 for Northern Ireland, double digits across England and Wales with some sunshine to end
03:42 the day.
03:43 And then it's sunshine and showers through the weekend and some of these will be blustery
03:46 and heavy and it will be rather chilly.
03:48 I'll see you later.
