00:00 Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04 It's the 20th of March. Now through today, cloudy for most away from the northwest.
00:09 We'll see some outbreaks of rain as well. The rain will weaken through the afternoon
00:13 as it slowly pushes towards the North Sea and the Low Countries.
00:17 And then quieter weather into Wednesday night before wet and windy weather
00:21 arrives from the northwest on Thursday. For the time being, a little showery rain
00:27 can't be ruled out across northern Scotland. Cloudy with some patchy rain and drizzle
00:31 for Aberdeenshire and Angus. Now across more southern parts of Scotland,
00:35 that's outbreaks of rain which could be persistent, particularly across Tyne and Wynne,
00:39 Northumberland towards Cumbria. Rain across the far southeast of Northern Ireland.
00:43 So for the likes of Fermanagh as well as Tyrone, you could get away with a bright start.
00:48 The rain could be quite persistent across western parts of Wales and it will extend
00:52 towards mid Wales through the day. Some patchy rain where the cloud is thick enough
00:56 across central southern England, East Anglia as well as Lincolnshire.
00:59 But here the rain will always be patchy and there will be cloud breaks allowing
01:03 for some brighter weather. So through this morning, we watch as this band of clouds
01:09 and rain continues in this position. Now the rain could pep up again across
01:13 the northwest of England through the morning, also extending down towards Wales.
01:19 The rain comes and goes across northern counties of England and notice towards
01:22 the south a little bit of showery rain but the cloud will break, some sunshine.
01:26 Sunshine extends across the whole of Northern Ireland, central and western areas
01:30 of Scotland through the afternoon, feeling warm in that sun. But along this east coast
01:34 with an onshore breeze feeling cold, 8 or 9 degrees Celsius and rather damp here as well.
01:39 We could squeeze an 18 down towards the southeast, a warm end to the day,
01:43 helped with a little bit of mid-March sunshine. Now through Wednesday evening
01:48 and overnight, any rain tends to dry up and then where we see clearer skies,
01:53 we could see a touch of frost before more cloud arrives around midnight
01:57 and then outbreaks of rain across Northern Ireland and western Scotland
02:00 to start the day on Thursday. Elsewhere, yes it's a quiet end to the night.
02:06 Temperatures a bit lower than what they have been, 6 to 8 degrees Celsius chilly
02:09 across eastern Scotland and again thicker clouds here in the odd spot or two of rain.
02:14 So it's a wet and windy morning across much of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:18 This bank of cloud and rain extends southwards and eastwards through the day.
02:22 Winds will be a feature as well, particularly across Scotland where we could see gusts
02:26 in excess of 50 miles an hour and the air turns colder, pushing ever southeastwards.
02:31 So through Thursday morning, mostly dry from Yorkshire southwards, much of Wales,
02:35 away from the far north-west, Ireland seeing some rain through the morning
02:38 and this is the back edge to that cold front and the winds will pick up further here
02:42 as that rain all spreads across Scotland and some patchy rain for Northern England as well.
02:47 One or two filaments could extend down as far south as Lincolnshire,
02:51 but to the south of that we will see some broken clouds and some sunshine
02:54 and yet again temperatures on the up, 15, 16, 17 degrees Celsius colder in the north-west
03:00 and that pretty much sets the scene for Friday as well as the weekend
03:03 with blustery showers but also a little sunshine.
