00:00 Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning forecast from the Met Office.
00:03 It's wet this morning across the western half of Scotland, the rain extending down towards Northern Ireland, North West England.
00:09 Further east, yes you'll see some clearer skies first thing across Aberdeenshire, borders North East England, but it will be a chilly start to the day.
00:16 Showers for Shetland as well as Orkney.
00:18 This patchy rain across Wales will come and go, North West England as well, and even more cloud across the Midlands,
00:23 but some clearer skies, eastern counties, central and southern England.
00:27 So a bit of a chilly start to the day here, but at least we'll see some brighter weather.
00:31 Towards the west country, a keen breeze and again cloud coming and going.
00:35 One or two shower bursts can't be ruled out.
00:38 Now this is a warm front which is pushing ever eastwards and southwards through the day.
00:43 It's not going to touch Shetland and we won't see much rain across central and southern England, although cloud will increase.
00:49 But one of the features of the weather is that it will turn milder from the west.
00:53 However, western Scotland yet again today getting the brunt of the highest rainfall totals.
00:59 It's going to be a wet day also across northern counties, Northern Ireland.
01:02 Patchy rain across Wales and this rain extending across towards eastern counties through the morning into the afternoon.
01:09 A strong wind across western Scotland, Northern Ireland, North West England.
01:14 Elsewhere in Shelter, you could see some dry skies to end the day, east of the Pennines as well as the Highlands.
01:20 Temperatures here though only eight or nine degrees Celsius, but 10 or 11 further west.
01:25 Here's your wind warning, which kicks in at midnight into Thursday morning.
01:30 Now winds could pick up to severe gale, even touching storm force for a time across the far north of Scotland,
01:37 where gusts could reach 70, 80 miles an hour and some damaging gusts as the winds hop over the Highlands as well as Pennines as we head through Thursday.
01:45 So expect some travel disruption, the risk of ferries being cancelled, a risk to high sided vehicles if you are travelling and there could be some bridge restrictions as well.
01:55 So through Wednesday evening, it remains damp across windward facing coasts.
02:00 More persistent rain by this point across Shetland as well as Orkney.
02:05 But it really isn't until we see the cloud gather across the far north of Scotland and then the rain intensify.
02:11 So we're going to see a bit of a cold front and it's behind this where the winds will really strengthen.
02:17 So overnight, cloudy skies across Wales, the West Country where we see some patchy rain, dry skies towards more eastern areas.
02:24 And then this front becomes very squally.
02:26 The winds become quite violent towards the northeast as those gusts pick up as well.
02:31 Hanging on to milder weather across many areas, but it does turn colder across the far north into Thursday morning.
02:37 So we're going to see some drivings and hazardous driving through the first part of Thursday, depending on where you are in the country.
02:44 Certainly high waves along the coastline and this rain will be fairly intense across the central belt, pushing down towards northern England as well as Northern Ireland.
02:52 We hang on to the cloud and patchy rain across the southwest, but we see brighter skies and blustery showers through the day further east as well as north.
03:00 And those winds will be relentless through the afternoon.
03:04 Well, on the mild side initially, but we see more cold air just come in across Scotland on Friday.
03:09 Elsewhere, the clouds will just come and go with some patchy rain and drizzle and then into the weekend.
03:15 Yet again, it remains rather windy.
03:17 The chance of some showers. For more details about the Christmas period, check out all our social media platforms where we'll keep you updated.
03:24 And I'll see you later.
03:25 later.
