This evening the showers will fade away, with some cloud becoming thicker over the north Wales, Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland heading into the early hours of Wednesday. The far north of Scotland and the Western Isles can expect some showers with strong, gusty winds overnight. Some dense fog will form especially in the south, likely affecting driving conditions on Wednesday morning. It will generally be a cloudy start, with the fog in southern areas lifting late into the morning. Temperatures overnight down to single figures across the most of the UK, but turning warmer for the time of year in the afternoon. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 22/10/24. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Clare Nasir.

00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05Through today we've seen some sunshine and also a few showers.
00:09Overnight though the problem in the south will be fog, winds alight here.
00:13At the same time winds pick up across Scotland as well as Northern Ireland,
00:16with weather fronts just skirting the northwest, cloud thickening ahead of it as we head through Wednesday.
00:22Through Wednesday into Thursday winds will slowly strengthen further south as well,
00:26so we won't have the fog problems we've seen over the next 24 hours,
00:30but certainly it will be a windy day, gusty winds as cloud approaches with some rain towards the west.
00:36For the time being any showers tending to fade away across more southern areas,
00:40still some across Caithness, Orkney and Shetland,
00:43as thickening cloud brings some stronger winds and outbreaks of rain towards the western isles,
00:48the far north there, and a little bit of rain just encroaching across Northern Ireland.
00:53Elsewhere you can see that cloud spilling towards more eastern and southern parts of Scotland, that's High Cloud.
00:58Further south the fog becomes fairly dense as we head into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
01:04Now particularly if you are driving across the Midlands, the south east, East Anglia,
01:09you may run into problems with poor visibility, but further west as well, mid Wales down towards the west country,
01:14certainly some fog patches to start the day, and this fog will be slow to clear.
01:18So through tomorrow morning are a lot of clouds across the north,
01:22and some patchy rain across the far west as well as the north west.
01:26Winds again will be a feature here, turning gusty over the hills as well as the mountains.
01:30Now further south that fog should clear by around 10, 11 o'clock in the morning.
01:35We'll see some brighter skies, a few residual showers can't be ruled out,
01:39but they're fairly drizzly in many areas here, having some dry weather.
01:43Cloud will break at times across southern Scotland, northern England as well as we head through the day,
01:47but always windy across more northern and western areas,
01:50as temperatures arrive around 14 or 15 in the north, 16 or 17 further south.
01:55And the wind will be a feature as we head into Thursday,
01:58certainly that will keep a lot of the fog away across more southern areas,
02:02and in fact overnight that cloud and rain thickens even further from the west.
02:07This is a more persistent band of rain, it's fairly slow moving,
02:10but certainly it will graze western Scotland as well as Northern Ireland into the early hours of Thursday.
02:16Elsewhere on Thursday, it's bright with a mix of cloud and sunshine,
02:20winds coming in from a mild direction but still quite gusty over the higher ground.
02:24Now Friday looks like this, it's showery and low pressure, firmly in charge,
02:29with the weather front slow moving across the country,
02:32and that leads into a fairly unsettled weekend,
02:35so rain or showers and the winds will be strong at times.
02:38So here's your outlook through Friday afternoon.
02:40A lot of showers around and temperatures arriving around 12 to 14, 15 degrees Celsius,
02:45so slightly lower than tomorrow.
02:47I'll see you later, bye bye.
